No February 2001 on the BBC Kilroy show, I was sure I'd mentioned it to you Manda... maybe not!
I travelled down to London all paid for by the BBC, and they picked me up at Euston in a car and ferried me over to the Elstree studios. There was me and another girl in the same car.
I was actually on the front row on the show sat next to an MP! I did do some speaking, but under all the lights I didn't quite end up speaking all I wanted to do, I did clam up a bit, it was so weird.
The show was about "Obesity" and the strain on the NHS of people wanting treatment etc...
The girl I travelled with, was 30 stone and had WLS the previous year and had lost 9 stone.
There where a lot of snobby people saying how wrong it was bla bla, and I kind of admitting what I ate in a day and they showed it on a tray.
I enjoyed the show and wish I'd spoke a little more... you could tell I was embarssed.
After the recording of the show we got a little buffet in the green room and chatted to other people, one women will always stick in my mind and I was shocked to see her on "How Clean Is Your House" years later (you may remember it, the women with the birds in the house......)
The the same car and hunky driver took us anywhere we wanted to go in Manchester.... so we went via Abbey Road Studios (Manda you know why.... I'll send the photos) and got dropped off outside Harrods.
We did a little shopping then got the train back.... and upgraded 1st class on Virgin.
The show went out the next day on BBC, everyone at work knew I was recording it and lucky for me it was recorded on my day off. I went into work on my afternoon shift after the show went out and was famous for 5 minutes!
At 1.10pm I found myself in the personnel office being sacked! Nothing to do with the show, I'd pulled a sickie on the Monday and it was final final warning and so they fired me.... it was great for me because at the time I hated the job, but it was a strange way to go, one minutes famous the next minute jobless! lol
Would I did it again.... I would but I also learnt to be more open now and so would not clam up like I did last time!
