  • If the week only consisted off Monday to Friday I would be slim, why did they have to come up with the idea of weekends ???

I do love the weekends really. But I always over eat on a Saturday night and seem to ruin some of the hard work I have done during the week.

At least I just go way off plan on Saturday night now, used to blow it big style on a Friday night as well, so I suppose that is an improvement.

Just thought I would have a moan. If only I could treat Saturday like normal working day, my weight would be much less. Seems I like the good life (and good food and booze!!!!) too much.

Off for a walk to undo some of the damage and then I'm going to collect the boys and coo over my 3 week old nephew for a wee while - not the biggest calorie burning day ever !!!!
  • I agree, weekends are the worst time for me as well. Hubby does a wonderful sunday dinner, and that tips me over for the day. I have three good days out of seven and there the days that I am at college!! Might have to sign up for more courses to keep me on the straight and losing weight streak.
  • Ditto!! I ate big style last night at the 40th/70th party and managed a few drinks too!! Danced all night though, aching feet and blisters to prove it. We went out for lunch today to a harvester, delicious and not too much of a strain on the old calorie bank. Saw people I hadn't seen for 2 years and they didn't recognise me (mind you I was dressed as one of The Blues Brothers!!) Someone remarked about my weight loss and said"......last time I saw you , you were absolutely huge!!" I didn't have an answer for that one I just gawped at her!!
  • Couldn't you just swing for someone who makes a remark about you being 'larger' last time they saw you? After all this effort we put in, I know I have had a few people I could have knocked down and sat on until they screamed for mercy. I always think of a brilliant remark to make back at them too, but it's always about three days after the fact! LOL! TQ, good on you dancing the night away. I'd love a good party where I could do that, I haven't been to one in years.
AS for these weekends, I agree, thay are hard although I am doing ok myself (have probably cursed myself now for next weekend). We went shopping at Target today (my fav American shop). I bought a vileda super mop...doesn't take much to make me happy, and hubby went off for a hot dog and I'm proud to say a year ago, I'd have joined him, but not today, oh no sireeee, I din't, I waited until we got home and made myself a two point sarnie and thoroughly enjoyed it too. <<<am giving self pat on back now>>>>>
We are expecting more snow arriving early hours tomorrow, another three to five inches on the top of the 8 that are already on the ground from Friday...will no doubt have to shovel the car out of the parking space to get to work. Not looking forward to that, but at least it's a form of exercise, yes?
  • I'm no expert but wonder have any of you thought of varying your points/calories etc over the week to deliberately give yourself a "high" day once a week? A few weeks ago I found a website addy on this forum for the "Wendie plan" which recommends doing this so your metabolism doesn't get used to the same amount of food every day. I've been following this for 3 weeks now. As I'm doing WW I'm allowed 26 points a day which works out at 182 over the week but I've been using the points like this: 22,27,23,37,22,26,24 totalling 181 over the week and with my high point day usually on a saturday. Its probably more psychological than anything but if I feel like I'm allowed to indulge I'm less likely to end up binging.

    Just a thought.

Could dig out the website addy if anyone is interested.
  • I think it was me who mentioned the Wendie Plan here. I found it surfing weight loss websites ages ago, and I think it actually works really well.

I've only tried it for a few weeks here and there (holidays and other stuff have got in the way). I gained loads over Christmas, and in one week I managed to lose the last 5lbs of that gain by following the Wendie Plan!

I do Slimming World, so I've adapted it to my plan and the sins I have daily are as follows: (starting with weigh-in day) 12, 7, 40, 3, 15, 12, 3.

Before, even though I've _loads_ to lose, I was prone to maintaining, or losing very little even when I'd stuck to the plan 100%. And now I can use the one really high sin day to stuff myself with chocolate, or to enjoy a guilt free takeaway, with a starter and everything!

    Anyway, here's the link: http://www.vmcdonnell.net/plats/wp.html

    Gem.
  • As most diets centre around a point or sin system I think it would be a good idea to be good most of the week and save those sinful sins for weekend binge/booze sessions. This works well in our class because a lot of the ladies do like their booze at weekends (infact someone thought we should combine Slimming World with AA!.)
  • By the way TQ sounds like you had a great time! In fact you all had a great time. Everyone did except me because I was poorly and in bed for the weekend (at least I lost some weight as I was (must whisper this bit) off my food!!).
  • I tried the Wendie Plan for 3wks and lost 1lb, the worse weight loss since starting my diet. I am this week back on my normal diet to see what I lose. I followed the Wendie Plan as suggested and did the exercise when it said to do it. I know it was around the TOM as well so this may have been another factor. Am just about ready to say stuff it. But Thursday will let me know.
  • Leigh what a shame the Wendie-plan doesn't work for you. It seems to be working for me as I've lost 2lb a week for the 3 weeks I've been on it although, of course, I may have lost that amount anyway. I like it as it gets rid of the guilt that normally follows me around after a high point day so I'm not turning one high point day into a high point week which is what used to happen!

I'm off to a 17th century banquet on Saturday which usually would have been a dieting nightmare but I think I can probably cope this time as I'm on 37 points anyway that day and I'm going to try and save 2 points a day for the rest of the week to use then, giving me a grand total of 49. If this isn't sufficient then I will have to admit I've given into pure greed

Mini Gem thanks for posting that website addy initially. Like I say, I think its helped me quite a lot and I've forwarded it onto several other people I know.
  • I am hoping that my recent disappointing weight loss is due to TOM. Have been on my normal diet this week and will weigh on Thursday and see what happens. And will try the Wendie Plan again but maybe not when TOM is due. In fact could do with doing it the week that I have a weekend away planned so that my really high day falls whilst away.
  • Am not doing the Wendie plan, but am doing something which sounds like it.

I am allowed 24 points a day with WW and Monday to Thursday I usually stick to 20 and save at least 1 exercise point per day, most days I manage to do some additional exercise, so I can save the whole 12 allowed exercise points for the weekend.

On a Friday I have the full 24 points and a couple of the saved ones, if required and on Saturday I have a blow out with whatever I have saved and then back to a straight 24 on Sunday.

I also start counting my points at 6pm for the day, so if I overeat one evening I can balalnce it out during the next day, with zero point soups and salads and jelly.

I could still eat more at the weekend, blame the booze myself.

Peacock if you ever start that joint slimming class & AA le tme know it sounds like my type of class.
  • I bought my Woman's World mag this week and the front page story is the "Wendie" plan..the woman who devised it..Wendie Wilbur had successfully lost 40lbs with W.W. and then she plateaued for nine months she researched the human anatomy and then came up with the idea that metabolism is like a furnace and food is like fuel..if you keep putting less and less fuel on the fire it's going to die down..if you put the same amount on it its going to stay the same then she came up with the idea of putting a lot of fuel in the furnace one day and then, with the furnace roaring hot putting in just a little fuel..would it trick her body into burning up its fat stores?..she tried it for a week and lost 3.5lbs her 36 week long plateau was over what a clever lady
  • I am not going to blow it this weekend (already have on Tuesday).

I am going to eat and drink in moderation and enjoy myself, a lot.

    No excuses this time
  • This Wendie plan sounds very interesting, and would explain why my scales did not budge after a month of strict low-fat regime, but went down 3lbs when I stuffed my face on a weekend away!

Can anyone tell me if the day after the 'blow-out' day has to be a really strict day or just a normal day? I get the impression the day after you have a treat day is when your metabolism is at its peak, so resticting food on this day will result in more loss....? I went out for an Italian meal last night, and feel more hungry than normal this morning, but am determined to be really good today
