Hello from One Fat Chick in England # 9
Hello everyone - OMG - the ninth thread... and they are moving on so fast nowadays.
I've just been reading over some of the other threads. Do you think we ought to start a thread for recommending products, dieting tips, etc, etc. Sort of like a 'Which' for dieting stuff???? |
But I was SO looking forward to seeing a pic of you in that dress sob
When do I get to start the thread :p I'm off to start the 10th one NOW! or maybe not! |
Just been reading a bit of the first thread of this nothing has changed  I go on about alcohol Ali is the model dieter and Delaney is on about mcdonalds I havent got up to that Peachey yet!!
|
Very depressing...
On the first thread I'm 3 pound lighter...but I'll get over it :o
|
Wow #9 already!!!
Yesterday I did something silly (again I hear you cry) I got on the scales (not my official weigh in day until Tuesday but I've been v.v. good recently) and I had got down to 17.4 - a whole stone off - yippee I cried, I got on my other set of scales (yes I have 2!!) and they said the same - I was on cloud nine, I know your sensing a but coming up.... But today I had gained the 3lbs back - WHY :?: I have been hateful all day because I know there is no way on this earth that I could have gained 3lbs!! it just isn't possible, yesterday I had about 1,400 caolories and the day before the same or less!!!!!!!! I don't think it could be TOM, because as most of you know, I don't really get TOM more like TOY!!! Anyway tonight I went to MIL for dinner and pigged out I ate a huge chicken salad, buttered bread, sausages, new potatoes in butter, a cream egg, 2 slices of battenburg, the list goes on.........why, why, why, etc The thread sounds like a good idea Sarah and well done on getting out of being a bridesmaid ;) |
Oh - Delaney - poor you! Its your PCOS thats causing your weight to fluctuate - it used to do that to me. Basically with PCOS your hormone levels are all shot to **** - so your hormones are telling your body that it is nearly TOM even when its not. I could gain or lose 5lbs in a day, but it usually reverts back to normal within 24 hours or so. Have you noticed that your ankles and/or wrists (or even your face) are slightly puffy? Perhaps you might be suffering with other TOM symptoms - tender boobs, cravings, etc.
Don't worry about it too much - I know its not fair but the more weight you lose the less you will be likely to have weight fluctuations. Your eating binge was probably caused by a mixture of being miserable about the 3lbs AND the PCOS flooding your system with TOM type hormones - try to put yesterday behind you and start afresh this morning. You can do it - we are all here to help you. I lived with PCOS for over 20 years so if you want a shoulder to cry on..... Now I haven't got to wear that awful Jane Austin type frock and hat (!) I have got to find something to wear for this wedding in July.... so in the middle of this week's Whats On TV there is a pull out Simply Be mini-brochure - which only deals in sizes 16-30. I was browsing through it and thought they had some nice stuff - then it occurred to me that while one of the models is a possibly a size 16, most of the clothes are modelled on women who are nearer a size 12! Its a shame they couldn't find larger models so we can actually get a good idea of how the clothes are likely to look on us, surely there must be some out there somewhere. |
Sarah...maybe you can find a nice peach lace & silk number with matching bonnet!
I think the recommending products thread is a great idea... Last day of half term today. HOORAY! |
I hate hats of any shape or description. Somehow I have just got the wrong shaped face for a hat and when I do have to wear one I always feel like I am still wearing it for a couple of hours after I have taken it off.
OK - I have started off a new thread for product recommendations (or any kind of recommendations)... here's a link Click here to go to the new Recommendations thread |
Do you get a full week for half term down South ? My kids were off Thursday & Friday for in-service days and today is a half term holiday then they are back at school tomorrow - thank goodness normality will reign.
Been at the dentist this morning :D - was bad planning as the boys had to come with me & I was getting root treatment done & I am not very brave:?: . But the worse bit is all done now - just got to go get my crown fitted next week. All this because half of my tooth fell out half way down a hill at New Year. Even worse it's going to cost £150. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have done really well with my eating all weekend. On Saturday night we had friends over and I stuck to my plan of one vodka one soft drink one vodka one soft drink. I am going away with my friend & kids in April & she couldn't believe how little I drank - the pair of us are well known for demolishing all of a 3 litre box of wine & some more once we get started putting the world to rights - not anymore - I have to make some changes. Anyway Linda said she is going to buy me one bottle of vodka while we are away at it will last me the whole week - some how I think not - but you never know. Worked out everyday over the weekend. On Saturday I fixed up the old telly in our room and did 40 minutes of my areobics video. Then on Sunday we went for a walk at a reservior, up a track and down a muddy path. We all had a good time, but I got stuck on the mud, stinky bog mud inside my boots and up my trouser legs :dizzy: Trust me. Then this morning I got up early and did my Tae Bo vid again. It was a bit easier this week but I still struggled. Had to open the windows when I'd finished as they were all steamed up - I had been doing Tae Bo honest :) Need to go fill my glass up. I'm drinking water out of a John Smiths extra smooth pint glass, through a barbie pink straw - dead classy me Carol |
Thanks for that Sarah - just what I needed :smug: Have weighed myself 3 times this morning - still the same HUH!!! Must stop jumping on the scales!!
Carol which reservoir did you walk around?? We used to cycle round one near Stirling I think - it was beautiful. |
Mmm 3 litre wine box could do with one of them right now...have been sticking to one bottle of lager but have not lost any weight have been eating too much am totally sick of TOM which has been awful :(
Delaney stay off the scales!!!! I tried on a woolly hat yesterday :o mans size would not fit on my head! Bought a little black rucksack instead barely big enough to fit anything in...but I like it! |
Melissa it was Carron reservoir, which is near to Stirling, up the back roads & by a big dam ??? Very pretty - we didn't walk all the way round as we had the kids, but we have done it all before.
oh no nobodies scales are moving despite our cut backs on the booze - suddenly I'm not looking forward to my weigh in tomorrow. I thought cutting out the alcohol would make a difference to our weights - shows what I know. Well I'll find out tomorrow Veggie where are you going with the black wooly hat & the backpack? If you're off back packing round Europe wait for me - I can be with you by tea time..... Carol |
Yes just off round the world backpacking see ya!
Seen as my rucksack can only fit a wallet brolly hairbrush and probably pushing it TOM things :o might be a short trip... Just had a mac bought for me shh dont tell anyone its a secret my birthdays not till march...officially a goth again in my new black mac :o scary fat woman dressed all in black... |
Me too! I want to back pack round Europe as well!!!!! I can make Cumbria by mid evening!!!
Cutting back on the booze has got to work when you think that the average pub measure of wine has got about 90-100 cals in it and who sticks to pub measurements at home? I've got some really nice ENORMOUS wine glasses which I try and kid myself contains only a normal wine glass full - trouble is you only get 4 glasses out of a 75cl bottle. Cutting right back on wine (or any booze) has got to be the hardest thing about dieting for me.... sob! Oh - and of course Kevin stuffing his face with white chocolate creme eggs. |
White Chocolate Creme Eggs - I am not a chocolate fan but they sound lovely.
How come it's started raining when Ray is due in for work & I can go for my walk My back pack is old & can hold my library books or swimming stuff - don't think either would be that useful half way round the world. Carol |
What sort of mac? One of those ones you roll up??
Do goths still wear fishnet tights?? I hate fishnet tights... stockings are even worse - isn't it strange the power that stockings and suspenders have over men - especially if the stockings are black fishnets with a seam??? Sorry - I'm rambling.... trying to plan my wedding anniversary in a couple of weeks. :o |
White chocolate creme eggs, they sound divine
I cut down a lot on drinking last week and lost weight so I'm sure you'll be pleased with your weigh in Carol. Wish I had been as good as you at the weekend though, I had far too much. I avoided wine and went for vodka with Diet Coke but also had some Guinness as well (I need the iron :o ) |
Nooo a smart mac.
|
Sarah - what about a peek-a-boo set
|
Might be this one...obviously looks much better on me
|
At maria donati they have really gross sort of see thru body things puke!
|
I don't know that I would have described that as a mac - its gorgeous! A mac conjures up pictures of those fold up plastic ones that pong.
Anyone got the Campaign 7 link Avon catalogue - if so I have just ordered the pretty lavender embroidered basque and THONG(!) on page 3. I must be nuts....!!! My anniversary is on the 27th February and I am going to have to starve to fit in this... I will try and scan and attach a picture.... |
Ooh err missus!!!!
|
Guess you will be earning some FEEPs on 27th February!!!
|
That's weird cuz I don't drink in the week now (DH wants to know who's pinched it - my sense of humour he's talking about, when I am off the booze), and I save my sins to be able to drink over the weekend. Last week I had less booze than I have had at any weekend since starting thie diet, and I don't think I've lost this week. Have got until Wednesday though so here's hoping or I'm back o the bottle!!
I can's stand sober Saturday nights ;) ;) ;) ;) :) |
Sober sat nights are not much fun when you have been used to otherwise, I just want to be able to take it or leave it so i am leaving it until Easter. I just keep giving myself targets small enough to cope with. I do love to drink wine though i have to admit!!!
I must admit this weekend was fairly easy but then I have been out the previous two weekends....lets just take it one week at a time. I don't know about you but I always have to have one vice or another, if it isn't alcohol it is chocs if not chocs it is crisps....aaahhggghhhh! |
There is ONE vice which doesn't make you fat....!
I'm sure I should know this.... but what are FEEPs?????? |
Still in a bad mood because of the "gained" 3lbs:?: It is official weigh in day tomorrow so we shall see.... I did my Lorraine Kelly exercise video this morning at 8am because I was so angry and now my legs are killing me.
What are FEEP's??? Tonight I have made the most delicious pud - it was summer fruits souffle from Rosemary Conely club (you get a recipe every week) kids wanted more and there was nil fat in it and 187 cals per pot (I made 4 ramekins). Veggie that coat was lovely - definitely too nice to be called a mac. Jano - my cardio bounce video has been dispatched so I should be jumping around like a looney tomorrow. Thought you might find this interesting... 75% of North Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half world population). In 37% of North Americans the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger. Even mild dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%. 1 glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a Washington study. Lack of water is the biggest trigger of daytime fatigue. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferes. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short term memory, trouble with basic maths and difficulty focusing on the printed page or computer screen. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, breast cancer by 79% and you are 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer. Are you drinking enough water????????? |
i am trying to drink more water honest i am!!
|
Yes I'm drinking enough water it's the only good habit I picked up last year and have stuck to. I drink water all day with one cup of very weak tea. I dislike coffee & too much tea gives me heartburn so it's easy to avoid them. I used to drink diet coke and / or wine in the evenings. Now I just stick to my diluting blackcurrant juice.
Have managed one week of seriously cutting down my drinking - just have the rest of my life to perfect it.:p Those dehydration stats are quite frightening. Little Goody Two Shoes Carol |
Fun Earned Exercise Points - i.e bonuses with your "buddy" - i.e February 27th  - got this from another thread on this board
|
BUT....... there is no where to clip ya buddy to!!!!
      |
ROFL!!!!!!!!!!! :dizzy:  :dizzy:  :dizzy:  :dizzy:
|
ROFL ???????
Come on then what does that mean????????? |
About the water.... I only found out about what water can do a year or so ago when I first got in contact with my US diet buddy and she told me how big a deal they make about it at diet classes in the US. Well I thought I would give it a go - although I thought it was another one of 'those' ideas from the US (if you know what I mean).
The first thing I noticed was that my daily tea-time headaches stopped completely - from that very first day. I also think that it helped my general health because I was very ill at the time and because it hurt to move I had actually been purposely drinking less so that I didn't have to get out of bed/off the sofa to walk to the loo. OK - drinking 2 litres of water a day meant that I needed to move around more but it certainly seemed to help me mend faster - and perhaps even the additional movement did me some good (although it didn't feel like it at the time). It still doesn't come naturally though - I have to constantly remind myself to drink the stuff and I use all sorts of squash to make it taste a bit better. I make up a big bottle of squash in the morning and it has to be gone by mid-afternoon, any later than that and I'm up all night. The other health benefit is that drinking plenty of water is the most important thing you can do to stop yourself getting kidney stones. |
we did our Kitchen up before christmas and bought a new American style fridge freezer with water/ice dispenser I have foundit a great help in getting my water down my neck..very much a novelty at first but it is the first thing i do every morning, and of course the water is filtered so it tastes much better. i reckon the fridge will have paid for itself soon because I don't buy bottled water now!!
i am drinking more too with the rescue remedy, when i can remember, my memory is definetely not what it used to be!! |
Hi TQ - ROFL is a chat room abbreviation - it means Roll On the Floor Laughing - we don't really use them here do we.
I have found a list of 'em at iVillage - and here's a link. This list is quite a small one - there are loads more. Link to chat room abbreviation list Just checked.... strange.... they haven't got ROFL - they use ROTFL instead! |
Hi all, well that 3lb blip was just that, a blip - as you've probably seen on the weekly weigh in I've lost another 1lb - very pleased with myself - I have another 2lbs to go and it will be my first stone of 6 gone.
TQ - we've been looking at those fridges, my mum has one and swears by hers (she just stands there and swears all day long  ) I've always drank about 4 glass of water a day but now I'm trying to drink 8-10 a day because those statistics are quite scary, finding it hard though. I did an exercise video yesterday and it was all high kicks and lunges - my thighs are killing me. Couldn't get out of the car this morning at Toys r us - very embarrassing!! The question I have for you guys is: if my legs hurt so much from yesterday's exercise, should I go to my regular low impact aerobics tonight???? Be very grateful for any advice. See you later. |
ROTFL!!!! I've got this great mental picture of your Mum standing swearing at her fridge.
Exercise.... yes - go tonight, it will ease the pain a bit. If it really hurts a lot try some rub stuff like Deep Heat - it works for me. It might be that you need to warm up and cool down a bit more than the video suggests next time you do the lunges and kicking exercises. How about warming up with something like yoga stretches which don't jolt your muscles but stretches them gently. Well done on that pound! Flamin' hormones......! |
How come when you go to bed early and have a really good sleep, you can’t get up the next morning. I went to bed at 10 and managed to crawl out of it again at 7:45 this morning -–the alarm went of at 6:15 but I reset it & rolled back over. So needless to say I didn’t manage to work out this morning I will need to find time for it tonight when the kids are bed. I’m planning on doing the first Lorraine Kelly one – what were you Melissa with all those kicks & lunges. Is it yourself who also does Lorraine Kelly. There are lots of kicks & lunges in the second video & I’m breaking myself in gently to those.
I agree with Sarah – have a good look at the cool down on the video or maybe do the cool down twice?? Me- I love a long hot bath after a hard workout to ease those muscles. Can’t beat it especially if you can persuade someone else to wash your back. Best go back on with some work, it is coming in thick & thin this afternoon Carol |
