  • I've never rinsed quinoa (but that doesn't mean I'm right !) I'm glad you're getting back into things.

I've just been on a spending spree on sporty stuff from JJB and TK Maxx. Oops! Still, at least it was all fairly cheap. I got some trail shoes, a sports bra, a fleecy breathable top and a rain jacket for when I'm walking (more substantial than the one I wear to run and bike in).

Michele - glad you and your dad had a good time in Ireland.
  • *wonders what a quinoa is*
  • hello all,

Don't worry homermommy hope everything gets better soon.

crazy helen- sorry bout dat mouse you was up dat late looking for it wow u determined. You'll get your motivation to excercise back soon.

    Wel come Pachyderm!!

Eating is going very well. My mum is visiting and she is a really good cook, she's been trying hard to loose weight and lost 6 pounds this week on slimming world. She makes lovely, healthy food and i've even lost 7 pounds in two weeks since she came. My lil sister has even picked up on it and now she has reduced herself to only one snack per day. Today is her little treat day, she was telling me she hasn't had a pack of crisps for a long time and i was trying to give her good advice so i told her not to deprive herself. So i'm going to buy her some baked walkers crisps on my way home.

Not long till my boo comes home. I miss him crazy. Anyway ladies later.
  • Miche- Soda bread! Spuds! Butter! Vodka! YUM!

    Pachyderm - welcome back!

CrazyHelen - Quinoa (Keen wah) is a tiny grain -supposed to be very good for you.

Slimmingworld chick - congrats on the health eating family!

YP1 - good news on the spends front. I visited TKMaxx for the plus sizes but it was all ghastly blouses from Germany. UGH.
  • Here we go - how to cook quinoa

    http://www.astray.com/recipes/?show=...20instructions
  • I read the packet when I got home and it said to rinse it, but not soak it for hours like it said on Wiki, so that was ok. Unfortunately DH sent me a text requesting that I meet him on his walk home from work Which was nice and relaxing after the majoy harassing journey I'd had home. The M1 was shut then I had to battle with kids playing chicken and an irate motorist who was annoyed that I'd slowed down to park...

So on the way back home again we stopped off at Waitrose for some procuitto ham and mozzarella to have with my figs, so I had that for dinner, rather than the Quinoa. I will make it tonight, then we can take leftovers on the train tomorrow

I am in the process of tracking down some cheap-ish tyres for my bike. I rang up and was quoted £260 for both, then my (male) colleague rang up and asked and they told him £250!!! Get a sex change, save a tenner!
  • Ah well. At least i now know my position at work. Redundant!!!

I have started surfing for jobs. Have applied for one in the Uni I work for but most jobs seem to be either part time, maternity cover or a fixed 12 month contract! Pooh!
  • Sorry to hear that Peacock.
  • Hello everyone

Oh Peacock I'm sorry to hear about your job. Hope something that you fancy comes along soon.

Well I've been the best girl again. Another healthy day annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd
went to the gym this evening. Yesterday hubby and I walked about 10 miles my little leggies were aching when I got home so I decided not to gym last night.

Wasn't it just the most gorgeous day I sat in my garden and read whilst hubby was mowing the lawn. Kerry had him tormented as she keeps trying to chew the wires. She is one mad rabbit sometimes. I just finished a book called A December Wedding by Anita Shrieve I enjoyed it, might be one for your book club Peacock.

My boys are lovely and tanned and look so healthy and handsome. They get their dark looks from my hubby who is now going grey, I was always a sucker for a dark man.

Went to my parents this evening and my mother is in great form. My father as usual was in his usual spot on the sofa watching some cowboy film with his usual few pints of Guiness in him. As I left I kissed him and said see you over the the weekend he said "girl will you just go home and let me die in peace"
    he is something else.

Hubby just made me a cup of tea and the boys are being quiet for once which is great.

    Goodnight godbless

    Michele
  • HI Miche - thatnks for the book rec. It is not hard to see who you take after humour wise- your old man! Nice to hear you had some time to enjoy the garden (hope you weren't worn out watching hubby mow the lawn!!).
  • I hope everyone is having a nice weekend.

I was out at the rugby last night, then went out for a long run this morning. I seemed to struggle a lot more than normal, and had to take walk breaks up hills (maybe it was the fact that it was actually warm for a change!), but still managed to do 19.2 miles in 3 hours which isn't too bad.

It now means I'm free to enjoy the rest of the weekend. I'm about to set off to go down to visit my friend in Leicestershire. We're going out for a meal tonight, then I'm staying overnight and coming back in the morning. She's pregnant at the moment, so it will be interesting to see the bump. Another uni friend is travelling down there too so it should be a good night.

On the way back I'm hoping to stop in at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and go for a bit of a walk round there, but it depends on the timings etc and what the weather's like. Hopefully it will stay nice for me!
  • Hello everyone

    Ooooh scorchio or what!!

Well I got up and went straight to the gym. Came back jumped in the shower and again sat in my garden reading some old Maeve Binchy book.

I've been wondering lately why we get through so much rabbit food, I know my Kerry has an appetite as big as my own but even so. Anway I was sitting there when suddenly I sees this little mousey coming out from the shed go in the hutch take some food and run back under the shed the little thing must have done this twenty times. Ah well at least no one is going hungry in the garden.

I got back from the gym and found the big fella on the doorstep with a big old puss on him. The big eejit was locked out he was just returning from his paper round and hadn't taken a key. Hubby had popped out and the little fella had gone to the gym also not the one I go to though a much more luxurious one!! Anyway Conor was moaning for ages how I hadn't bothered to tell him I was going out blah blah blah I said look boy get over it that will teach you to go out without your key.

The house is quiet both boys are out, the hubby has conked it out on the sofa. I cooked him a meal of Irish sausages, white pudding a jacket spud and salad. I had an advocado salad. My husband did his usual line of have a sausage god he is so hilarious. I had a little treat of a macaroon biscuit and it as lovely. Mandy and I are going out cycling this evening.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone

    Michele
  • Once again Miche you make me smile taliing about your hubbie and the boys!

Love the cheeky mouse too! Ma and Pa have one in the garden who occasionally sneaks out from under the shed to pinch some of the bird food (this includes seeds, nuts and the biscuits bought especially for them by my softie dad). There is also a Mr or Mrs Tiggie winkie (hedgehog) who he scrunches up digestive biscuits for but she comes at different times so it is a bit hard leaving food out that the birds don't scoff!
  • Hi everyone...Long time no chat.

Had the most awful 7 mile run yesterday, it was all hills and brutally hot. I had to walk a little bit of it, I thought I was going to pass out. Just awful, kind of discouraged me a bit from training for the half but that is in October and most likely the weather will not be this bad.

After the race I had dinner and 2 drinks, get home and the scale is crazy high, it's back down today so it was water but I figued I'd at least get a bonus of a good scale reading after almost killing myself yesterday

I'm tired and my face is sunburnt so I may spend the day inside doing house stuff. Summer school is over, I don't have to see any kids for about a month which is nice. One of my boys (13 years old) was crying when the program ended...poor thing.

Hi Michelle good to see you posting again.

Helen your post makes me feel very lazy as I whine about 7 miles.

    Peacock, sorry about the job.

I've never heard of quinoa, I'm about to look it up on wikipeida.

    Have a great day everyone.
  • Hello everyone

Well I have already gymmed this morning and I'm feeling truly saintly yet again.

Came back showered, the little fella and I had scrambled egg on toast. This would have been fried but the pan was in the dishwasher unwashed and I'm very lazy and couldnt' be bothered to give it an old scrub.

Ooooh we had high drama here early Saturday evening. I had taken to my bed for a nap. I'm at that age you see!! Anyway the little fella phones and says in his usual dramatic voice mother there is the hugest fire at the old forum site (a building at the end of our road) I said is there oh ok see you shortly, and drifted off. Then I could hear sirens police helicopters the whole works. Gets out of my bed looks out of the window and merciful jesus I saw the biggest fire you ever saw. Well you never saw me move so quick because I knew the little fella was down there somewhere. Anyway couldn't see him but knew he wouldn't be right near it but his friend lives right by this fire. I watched open mouthed as these nearly built timber famed houses burnt to the ground there were explosions and all sorts. It was scary stuff. Thank god no one was hurt but this little town has never seen the likes. Oh and the big fella slept through it all.

I had to laugh today though a reporter from the local paper rang for the little fella said that he'd spoken to him at length at the scene of fire and could he speak to him again. That child of mine will no doubt ring him back and charge your man for speaking to him!!

My parents live near to the fire also they were on their way home my father on his mobility scooter and my mother trailing behind no doubt. Saw the fire my mother stood outside and watched and my father apparently said feck that old fire i'm going in to watch Poirot.

I saw my mother's sister today my aunty and were discussing the fire she thought it was Bin Laden up to something and grabbed her blood pressure tablets and scarpered out of the door to escape. I call her Dotty Door (as in Doreen) and I hope to god she never reads this as I would hate to offend her in any way as she is the sweetest lady in the world.

    Anyway thats my news.

    Take good care

    Michele
