How was the marathon Helen? Hope you're resting up luv
Well we've had a lovely weekend so far with the weather, it's cooled down today, enough to wear a light sweatshirt for me, but I did get two loads of washing dry today
RSG, what are you doing in yarmouth luvey? You should have told me before, I would have taken you for a cream tea....next time you're down ok. Hope you didn't hit too much traffic....
Sarah, I loved The curious incident of the dog in the night, I hope you enjoy it, it's got a lot of swearing in it though which surprised me, seeing as I found it in the young teen section in the book store...now I know all the kids know all the words, I just didn't expect to find the book in that particular section. Congrats on the 2nd allotment...here's to your orchard
Michelle, your belgian chocs sound divine....and I'm quite fanying a pached egg about now as well...
My cream tea was lovely and my new friend and I had a little walk afterwards and stopped by an interesting house by a pond and ended up learning all about it's history (lots of it based on British history) as we saw people inside and they said they'd give us a tour for $3...I guess it's now a historical site, although the house was last inhabited in 1959 with no electricity or running water...
Ok #1 son needs attention, must go....see you all tomorrow, another day off....YIPPEE!!!
Ow.... OW.... OWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!! My knee is grazed, all puffed up and turning interesting shades of grey-black and blue and my leg keeps going sort of numb .... Ellie was in one of her daft puppy-ish moods during our walk (even though it was raining) - her silliness mainly meant tormenting Fred - but just when the rain was at its worst she ran and jumped up at me from behind... sent me flying... and I landed face down on tarmac with my right knee taking most of the impact. Owwwwwwwwww I phoned up DH for a bit of TLC and the first thing he asked was if Ellie was okay.
Poached eggs.... that sorts out the question of what to have for lunch.
Chris, what a nice afternoon with your new Irish friend. A bit of history and a cream tea.....
Yayyyyyyy - the Chavs have sold their caravan. This might not sound like a big deal but it has changed my life! It was bright white and where they had it parked in their garden meant that the light reflected off the roof and bounced back in here - on a really sunny day it could be so bright it was almost painful.
I need some advice... I've been given a manual treadmill.... Any recommendations on how I can/should start a running training programme? I can walk for hours but I've never done any running.
Chris my friends have a place in Yarmouth, so I'm down there a lot. Next time we'll definitely have to get together. Traffic was not bad coming back just a little wait to get over the bridge.
I'm all tanned up..today started out cloudy so I was remiss with my sunscreen I'm just now realizing how dark I got.
Ate horribly, I need to learn not to jump on the scale immediately upon my return from a weekend away. Not smart. Even though I probably had a 7 mile run yesterday I have still done some damage. It's amazing what a couple of bad eating days can do.
Lou glad to see you, I was wondering how you were doing.
Sarah I hope your knee feels better, this morning on my walk this huge chocolate lab came flying up to me with his ball in his mouth. I played with him for about 20 minutes.
My knee isn't so bad this morning - several bags of (now defrosted) frozen peas helped with the swelling - but bending it is still painful. The dogs didn't care how I felt, they just want their daily walk no matter what - so I was back out there at 5.45 this morning in the pouring rain.... I know I wanted SOME rain but this is rather more than I'd hoped for.
RSG - I don't do much actual sunbathing for which I'd always put on sunscreen - but I am outdoors a lot and I'm always forgetting the sunscreen. My problem is I just pop out to, say, hang the washing on the line - then see a couple of flowers which need dead heading... then a little gentle plant re-shaping ... and time slips by... three hours later I realise the clothes are all forgotten in the laundry basket still waiting to be hung out.
By 'Eck missus! What 'orrible weather we had this weekend. Typical Bank Holiday weather! I did manage to go to a bbq but only the bbq-er was outdoors under a canopy. I had quiche and salad. Took the biggest load of dirty washing (dirty washing - does that make snse?) to the launderette and almost could not be bothered to collect it Sunday but was not sure if they would open on Monday. Seemed to spend my time dashing here and there getting rained on. My jeans were constantly soaking at the ankles. Bleugh!
Isn't it horrible when they flap against the back of your leg??? Cold, wet and clammy.... Urghhhh
It must be a quiet news day - they've just done a bit on the lunchtime news about it being healthier to use a teapot to make tea rather than using a teabag dunked in a mug - apparently steeping the tea in a pot means that more antioxidants get released..... Well, seeing as I am stuck in the house today (still pouring with rain) I shall go and make myself a big pot of antioxidants - I even might share it with the dogs.... they love a cuppa.
It is so blummin' cold in my office (I came in and a window had blown open) that I actually have my fleece jacket on and the heating on. I never have the heating on!! People are usually amazed that when it is cold I am waddling around in a t-shirt and no jacket but I don't believe I have been warm all weekend!
Nice to see so many people of the same opinion about one book - so I just bought a second hand copy of it (yeah - I'm cheap) - I'm looking forward to reading it now, the synopsis sounds very strange. Reminds me of a radio interview I listened to with a young man (who had Aspergers) who had that mathematical ability that the Dustin Hoffman character had in Rainman - he also saw numbers as colours. Blummin can't remember what his name was now - he was publicising his autobiography (I think!).
I've got the heating on as well. Ellie was shivering. I can't believe I put the heating on because a DOG is cold.... you'd never guess that she's descended from a wolf! Talking about Ellie... she dismantled her last bed ... and George's... and Fred's... so I bought them four king size duvets (Tesco's value ones), sewed them all together one on top of the other so they are really deep and comfy and bought several cheap k/s duvet covers to make one huge bed with washable covers.
And this morning there was white fluff EVERYWHERE.
She'd ripped the top and bottom ones open ... G&F were hiding in a corner while Ellie was pretending to be a puppy... scuffing up the fluff and then chasing it... I caught her in the act so there was no pretending it wasn't her this time.
Morning girls, Sarah, keep an eye on that knee luvey, we don't want you ending up with bursitis (sp?) I had that once, that was from falling while walking with Pen and Lew and CG... which one pushed me? Went straight down on the knee, ripped me new jeans and it was trouble for weeks, had to have anti infammatory meds in the end...keep doing what you're doing with the peas, remember RICE.
RSG, glad to hear you had a nice weekend and got off the island ok, on the news around six last night they said there was a 10 mile back up to get over the Bourne Bridge...glad I wasn't stuck in it, I'd have needed a wee. Let me know next time you're down this way, I'd love to meet up with you.
Peacock, hope you're warming up now in your office, Mum was telling me how she's felt chilled all weekend too, and it hasn't stopped drizzling all weekend...no sun
Hi Lou welcome back, glad to hear all went well with the move...and don't worry about that gain, you're back on track now so it'll soo shift. How did the little furry kitten get on with the move, sorry, have forgotten his name?
LOL @ Sarah forgetting to hang the washing out, I did that yesterday, have had to rerinse so it can go out of the matted ball it's formed into in the basket, so I can hang it out now...
CG, have been out on the bike, Hannah got a new one too, so Dave her and I have all been riding together, they go faster than me and have grears but I don't care, I'm still a bit wobbly but I'll get over it...I see you're up and on line...talk soon
Hello everyone, no time to read through posts as I´m in an internet cafe in Madrid, but I just wanted to log on with my time -
3:52:11
I´m really chuffed to get under 4 hours, and my legs don´t feel too bad now )(although I could barely walk at the end). No blisters and I still have all my toenails too.
Anyway, I´ve been concentrating on replenishing my energy reserves and rehydrating on wine, but I might go for a short, slow run tomorrow once I get to GC just to loosen up a bit.
Full race report when I get some more internet time...
Wow Helen, WEEEEELLLLL DONE!!!! The beginning of the year my goal was to walk the Glasgow 10k, but since I haven't lost much weight and my knees are playing up I've postponed to next year
Congrats Helen....oh and I wish I were in an internet cafe in Madrid!!! That's a great time, good for you.
Chris I'll definitely let you know next time, I usually am down in the Fall more than the summer but this year I'm hoping to do the Falmouth Road Race so I should be down sometime in August.
