Well it is kind of traditional to have a bechamel sauce in a lasagne - at least most Italian lasagne recipes have it in and after all that is where it originated! It is one of the 'layers'. Without it I would not like lasagne at all - I do love my sauces!! A similar sauce is in Greek Moussaka and I love that!
