Slimming world support thread
I decided to start this thread because everyone was saying it was a good idea, maybe we should have weekly weigh ins like the group as well?Just an idea.
Cherry cupcake-i didn't have any pancakes yday:( i was way too busy at university. Well least your back on the plan today. Antari-Welcome, wish you well on your jorney. :carrot: Just wanted to remind ya that you were 5 stone lighter 2 years ago just remember that weight gain takes time and so does weight loss. It would be so good if there was a SW online a bit like the weight watchers online. I really think they should also invest in more products like WW. When i went off the plan one of the reasons was i could always find WW foods everywhere and always stay in my points but with SW i find it very hard to eat out and my family and friends always cook with a lot of oil so this doesn't help when eating with friends/family.Any suggestions for places to eat out on SW, Nandos is a good one but too expensive, they have this amaziing low fat frozen yogurt. I was wondering if you ladies have picked up any useful habits on other plans that you apply to SW: One of the good habits i aquired on the WW plan was drinking skimmed milk(i think i will do this for life) and eating plan creals. Aslo brown pasta yum:hun: |
Do you mean a forum by SW online? As SW do have a members website with loads of stuff on it. You probably know that, ;) I just wondered what you meant. :)
They don't have a forum as they think it isn't always helpful or some rubbish. ;) I remember there was a questionnaire once online or in the mag about if people thought it would be a good idea if they made ready meals and such like. Maybe it will happen. |
Hi-would like to join ur slimming world 'contingency' on this site!! Ive been a member since last summer but battling with a thyroid problem has led me to having a very slow loss upto know-so gonna go back to the gym to try and spur it on a bit. Hopefully the online support will give me the extra boost i need..
|
I'm doing Slimming World online, since I'm never around to get to the meetings. I was really surprised that they don't have a forum, I'm sure there'd be some consultants that would be happy to keep an eye on it!
I don't think I've picked up any useful tips from any other plans. One thing I always do on SS though is use the small side of the grater for my cheese (which I have a fair bit of most days really), it always makes it look as if you have twice as much and it melts better than ever :) |
I'm pleased that we now have our own thread as it's good to get some different ideas.
I have been on the website and am using their diary page. It's really good and it keeps me out of the kitchen ;) I have only been doing this diet for 2 days now and am eating so much that I am sure I will put weight on, but I suppose most people say that...........I will have to see what happens next weigh in. I think my problem is that I lost all my weight doing Lighterlife and when I came off that my metabolism had gone to pot and I couldn't eat normally. It took about a year for it to normalise and as I have thyroid problems too I got quite depressed about it all. I managed to keep most of the weight off until last year by becoming a vegan. I am still a 'strict' vegetarian, but will eat cheese if pushed! The Laughing Cow Triangles are going to become my saviour I think! It's good to be able to eat a fair amount of fruit though as I used to dream about it when I was on the LL diet, it was the only thing I missed. I am going to buy the green book as I think I will need to see a few vegetarian recipes (without the eggs). |
Hi Antari, and everyone else on this thread-just read ur post, and thought Id let you know that the good thing with slimming world is you can eat all that food-and still lose weight, which is why its not a diet-its a way of eating that you can realistically follow for the rest of your life. My friends and family are amazed that I can eat massive plates of food and still lose a few pounds each week. Its great. And also on the note of Laughing Cow, go for the Extra light ones(purple)instead of light blue as you can have 6 instead of 5 as a healthy extra!! and it makes great pasta sauce x

Well ladies :gossip:
Another green day for me :carrot: and feeling really good now it's nearly the end of my week and to be honest i haven't really had time to use my syns. My little sister is over so many we'll have some Popz microwave popcorn only 6% fat light & natural..does anyone know the syn value for this? Antari- i think everyone says that they don't think they'll lose on their first few days on SW, but that is never the case. I remember one time in my group a lady came and said she'd eaten four jacket potatoes in one sitting and lost 9lbs that week!!!!!I lost 3lbs on my first week, my first taste of success. Can't wait to see your weigh in hope it all goes well:hug: WT-Welcome:carrot: :welcome2: :carrot: We can all help each other acheive our goals. Why would they think a forum would not be helpful, i think this place helps us keep accountable and we can help each other. I hope they do make some products this is a great plan that doesn't even feel like a plan at all everyone should do it!! |

What they were worried about was people giving out bad advice, claiming food was free when it wasn't etc. I can see their point, but we all have the information to hand and so can check things like that ourselves, and it might even stop that one person making a mistake that will cost them a gain or two! |
:D Wow thanks for the heads up on the popcorn, i have several bags of the stuff maybe i'll just have 1 a week or every three days. I convinvced my little sister that we'll just have tea she didn't want to watch a movie anyway. I'm really trying to influence her so she can learn some healthy habits of eating too i thought popcorn was a good way to go because it's light and hey ..its corn. What about homemade popcorn? Does anyone know the syns?
Just wondering whats the biggest weight loss you girls have had at a weigh in ever also, name the plan? I once lost 41/2 pounds in one week!!:carrot: on SW. |

It's getting closer to weigh in now, a bit worried i actually haven't been eating enough, i always have mad cravings b4 my period then when it's here i loose my apetite. I'm here trying to munch down some rice pudding now in an attempt to eat more. We'll just have to see eh? My friend and me decided to do this together this week and she gave me a call to say she's lost 3 pounds:carrot: already we ain't weighing in till Monday!! |
Rice pudding is one of my favourites, a nice creamy dessert and only using one Healthy Extra. Especially nice with some frozen berries swirled up in it. I could use my Healthy extras over and over. I quite often have a bag of ryvita minis for lunch with a slim-a-soup when I'm working, plus I could eat cheese until it comes out of my ears, I'll use it on just about anything! This time around I'm using pine nuts too, which I toast and throw into my cous cous.
I had a really nice dinner tonight, nice because it felt so sinful! Sliiming World chips sprinkled with garlic chip seasoning before I put them in the oven, with baked beans and quorn chicken style dippers, which are only 1/2 a sin each. Just to be really sinful I followed it up with a weight watchers chocolate and honeycomb swirl icecream (4 1/2 sins), topped with a sliced banana...delicious! |
This thread is a great idea - it's giving me lots of new foods to try which really helps me because I tend to get fed up eating the same things. I am having more green days at the moment, they are my favourites.
Years ago (well about 5)there used to be a SW forum on the SW website. It was brilliant and had thousands of members full of ideas. Then one day SW shut it down saying that they were worried that members would give each other wrong information etc. It was really sad. I make Bits' rice pudding all the time. It's lovely! I am weighing in for the 5th week tomorrow but I am hoping not to have gained - I've had a week off work and to be honest I've slipped a bit. I am back on form today though. My loses have been Week 1, 6 pounds Week 2, 3 pounds Week 3, 6 pounds Week 4, 0 pounds I am really annoyed with myself because I bet I would've had a good loss this week if I'd stuck at it. What days do you all weigh in? |
Hey all,
I tucked into some baked apple and cinnamon with some fat free yogurt from morrisons and sweeteener. I haven't had any syns this week apart from some extra skimmed milk, meat and a midnight munch on a bowl of Special K, mind you my cousin just gave me half a bag of that Popz microwave popcorn, should i? should i not?:D . I'm so terrible at counting syns bcos i hate weighing stuff. Wow cherrycupcake 6 pounds!!!:carrot: I'm weighing in tomorrow, very worried cos i have been trying been good all week. |
I hate weighing stuff all the time too, the only things I ever really weigh are cheese, rice (for the rice pudding) and cous cous. That baked apple sounds really nice, how many syns is a baked apple? I might have to have a go at that next weekend!
Cherrycupcake, just looking at the losses you've had so far are fantastic! I hope you do well this week too :) I weigh myself each Saturday morning (and most other mornings!) and that's the one I count as my end of week. It's great, because then sometimes (not all the time!) I can reward myself with a day off on the Saturday since I have a whole week to go until the next weigh in ;) I lost 3 lbs after Christmas, (in additon to whats on my ticker) and when I got on the scales this morning I'd lost another pound, so that unofficially takes me to a stone today! I was well chuffed! |
hello the thread is a great idea :).... i had a green day today which i do most of the time as i am not a big meat eater really had pasta and sacla tomato pesto (1 level tbsp 2½ Syns) for my dinner was lovely and i'll have some more in a little while for my supper as there is still some left sittling waiting for me in the microwave lol ;)
|
I've always thought about getting some pesto because I have never actually tried it believe it or not! Is it much different to just a plain old passata? And is it worth the syns? lol
|
Pesto is made with pine nuts and really high in fat and calories and very rich! I personally don't think it's worth the syns as the only thing I like about it is the taste of all the basil.............which is free!
Have stuck to the diet (sorry way of life ;) ) all week religiously and have eaten more than I have ever done. Let's hope the scales are on my side tomorrow! I am going to make the rice pudding tonight as I haven't had my weetabix this morning so haven't used the milk. I had a wonderful fruit smoothie instead made with bananas, blackberries and a freshly squeezed blood orange made up with some water. It was very red! |
Bits - congrats on the loss!
I had a gain this week I'm afraid. I can't even bring myself to think about it but I am back on track now so hopefully I will lose it this week! It's my own fault anyway! |
Originally Posted by bits: i love pesto and have tried three different kinds of the sacla one (tomato, classic and red pepper) and think they are worth their sins as they are lovely in pasta........ i often put chopped quorn sausages through my pasta and pesto too or i grate some cheese over it and it is really filling and delicious :T i am having a baked potato tonight for dinner with a tin of asda ravioli (4 syns for the tin) with some grated cheese (melted) over lol might sound horrible but it is amazing :T |
scottie - that sounds nice to me. I like pesto too.
I had pasta tonight with sweetcorn and a bit of grated edam. I like green days because they are so easy. Sometimes I have mashed potatos and peas with gravy (2 syns) or a jacket potato with mushy peas and mint sauce (2 syns). I've made some savoury rice for tomorrow to take to work and a chopped salad. I'd like to make some flavoured rice myself if I could think what to put in it. Bits - what do you do to your cous cous for flavouring? I was hopeful today that the new WW rice pudding desserts would be OK on green but they are 5.5 syns on both days so i'll stick to free rice pud! |
I had a really terrible day today...
In the morning i weighed myself, I have two scales, one said 12 stane exactly the other said 11 stone 12:carrot: . I was really chuffed and went to the sports centre to get a digital ticket to show my friend and it read 12 stone 10 pounds:mad: what happened? Are both my scales at home wrong? I was really good this week...   I feeel like giving up.. |
SWC don't give up!! scales do vary and it was later in the day so that won't help. If i were you I'd just use one set of scales and stick to them each week. Don't get on different ones. Keep going it will come off.
When I went to class the scales weighed more that my digital scales at home. |
SlimmingWorldChick i am sorry to hear that all the scales are telling different stories that drives me nuts......
i have scales at home and never use them because they are always different from the one in class so i just stick to getting weighed in class so agree with cherrycupcake maybe you should just use one set..... i get weighed tonight at the class not looking forward to it but ohhhh well needs to be done i suppose lol |
Well, first week over and 6lbs down :carrot:

I know ive not had a good few weeks, because not been feeling very well, so been eating crisps and chocolate too much!! really need to knuckle down and get back on track cos i know I can! and only got 6 weeks to lose the 14lb i targetted myself to for easter...Well done esp..Antari, just a friendly word of warning tho, be careful with smoothies if ur aiming to follow the plan 100% as they are very high in syns, even ones you make urself, as once u change the composition of the fruit it becomes synful :carrot:
|
Ok i'm back..Thanks for the word of encouragement:hug:
Well done Antari ...6 pounds:carrot: !!you go for it!!!:carrot: i'm feeling better now today... |
SWC - glad you are feeling better.
Antari - congrats on the great loss! Welshtigger - good luck with your weigh in. I was ill a couple of weeks ago and found it hard to get back onto the plan. So if you squash up the fruit it becomes synful? Scottie - hope your weigh in went well. I had noodles for the first time tonight and some (frozen) veg rice from morrisons (3 1/2 syns for the full bag) it was delicious and so filling! I am doing a red day tomorrow for a change so lunch will be turkey salad and for tea I am making the bacon double cheeseburgers for the SW magazine. |

Cherrycupcake - I got really onto cous cous just before I started back on Slimming World and I do it almost the same way as I did. I make it in stock from a chicken oxo cube, add spring onions, basil, a few raisins or currants (can't remember how many syns the raisins and stock are!). I also use the healthy extra amount of pine nuts, toast them a bit under the grill and throw them in too. They make it really nice and give it a bit of crunch! I know the raisins have a few syns in them and the stock has a little, but I usually make enough for the next day too to take to work and so the syns are halved. ;) I'm having a nightmare of a week really. I left home on Monday morning and won't get back until Friday night, so usually I just forget Slimming World (it's so hard to follow without a fridge or a hob!) and am really careful what I eat. But I have been out for lunch (a baguette sandwich AND chips!) with a colleague for the past two days and have just finished munching on a bag of aero bubbles :( I feel really guilty, not least because I could hardly get my blooming coat fastened after the lunch today I was so bloated! I'm not expecting any miracles this week! |
Bits - I hope you get back on the plan soon.. It must be really hard not being able to cook things. I wonder if anyone has any ideas for you?
Thanks for the cous cous ideas - I will give it a try. I have really got into noodles this week too. The thing I am struggling with is on a red day, what free food do you nibble? I ate all my meals, HE and syns early in the day and then I wanted something later, just a snack. On green I would have some rice or pasta. I always have a little snack portion in the fridge. Any ideas? I made the burgers today from the latest SW magazine - they were delish! |
had a crap night last night..... gained FOUR pounds but this is my "star week"as they call it and i had a night out at the weekend where i drank and ate alot (first night out in a long time so went a bit mad i guess) was really fed up last night after being weighed but have started afresh today and have been good..back to writing everything down again to get back on track...that always helps me keeps me organised i guess need to get my head back into this....
|
Scottie, I think I'll probably be joining you with a gain this week, it's ok though so long as we get back on the straight and narrow pretty soon!
Cherry, you're right - it's really hard when you can't cook anything! And especially so when you don't even know where the nearest supermarket is! I'm away again next week, although only for a couple of nights/three days so it shouldn't be too bad. Mind you, I also have a day ling meeting on Friday with a couple of work colleagues and that will mean eating out for lunch then as well! :dizzy: I haven't actually had a red day since I started this time round, but I remember last time I did it I sometimes (not too often cos they're so expensive!) I used to buy a ready cooked chicken from the supermarket, strip all the skin off and throw it away and nibble on chicken if I got hungry. The hardest part is throwing the skin away though because I love it :D I also used to keep some wafer thin ham and nibble on that. A friend I used to work with used to do the red days quite a lot, and she used to open a tin of corned beef and leave that in the fridge. When she got hungry she'd have a few slices with some tomatoes! |
Just thought of something else as well! Something I eat when I'm not dieting but will be good to snack on during a red day. I take a chicken fillet, and chop it up into small pieces while I heat some fry light in the frying pan. Squeeze a lemon, and when the pan get's very hot toss in the chicken. Pour the lemon juice over and fry it all up until the lemon juice disappears and the chicken gets quite blackened. The blackened bits are (I guess) where the lemon burns onto it and taste delicious! Anyway, I used to put it into a pitta bread with salad and mayo (yum) but the chicken pieces are quite nice cold too! :)

been soooo good since Tuesday am hoping for a weight loss next week and i will feel back on track think i am going to set a mini target for myself anyone else done this??
|
Hey guys, Im back!! only been gone 2 days but was all set to reply to antaris question, when i realised shes done it herself!! Well Ive now settled into my new job and have knuckled down again on plan.I didnt go the last two weeks and put on 5 lbs(oops...altho it is star week too) I wasnt going to go but figured if I went on thursday then atleast i would know how much damage id actually done.Have been really good since tuesday, packing breakfast and lunch to take to work and planning my teas in advance. Golden Lights and French Fries have become my life saver cos Im a bit of a crisp-o-holic and they're only 4.5syns a pack-yum. Im 9lbs heavier than i was before I started taking my medication back before christmas so my aim over the next few weeks is to get back there and keep moving in the right direction. Ive started going to the gym and swimming again, and being spurred on by the lovely girls I work with. One of them joined SW the week I started working there so we go to class together now,so that helps, and 4 of us got up early on friday morning and went swimming before work. Our local leisure centre do 'Fresh Start' on Mon,Wed & Friday which is where they open at 7 and you can either swim or uses the gym then swim for free. The leisure centre is 2 mins drive from work so we go,then go to work early and have breakfast and feel great!! we're gonna aim to go atleast twice a week and im gonna go to the gym a few evenings a week. and I started riding my horse again today...Yey go me!! :carrot:
|
hey guys-me again-queen of waffle!! lol..just need to share one of the nicest meals ive ever made!! bought some of those new sweet chilli quorn sausages(not really a quorn fan but love sweet chilli!) and grilled them, then put them in a dish with a big tin of heinz sweet chilli mean beanz and some passata, and topped with mashed potato(mixed with a bit of quark)and sprinkled a A choice of grated cheese over the top.I baked it in the oven for about 30 mins and am eating it now.Its delicious and totally free on a green day(just one A or B choice) :D
|
just went and bought some sharwoods noodle boxes today to try them out ....got the hong kong sweet and sour one (1 1/2 syns) and the thai red curry one (5 syns) anyone else tried them??? .......I will let you's know what i think...they look lovely on the box though mmmmmmmmm
