This comes straight from the Tops.org website. They had some good ideas and I thought I would share them here
Dealing with the unexpected
Flexible thinking can also aid your weight-control program by helping you to deal effectively with the unexpected. Here is a flexible-thinking quiz. What would you do in the following situations?
Your walking partner calls at the last minute to cancel your walk.
(Possible solutions: Go on your own. Call someone else. Reschedule for later in the day.)
You injure your ankle and can't do your regular walking program.
(Possible solutions: Work on upper body conditioning, Use pool exercises. Learn aerobic hopping.)
You're visiting a family member in the hospital and will be there for a few hours. You go to the hospital cafeteria and find only junk food.
(Possible solutions: Take the healthiest food they have available. Just drink water for the time you're there. Go somewhere outside the hospital to eat.)
You are doing well on your program, but someone hosts a surprise birthday party for you, complete with an enormous spread of your favorite high-calorie food.
(Possible solutions: Allow yourself a birthday indulgence and pledge to get back on track tomorrow. Have modest portions. Sneak out the bathroom window and go to a TOPS meeting.)
You are a passenger on a long-distance road trip with a friend who'll only stop at fast food places or gas stations.
(Possible solutions: Live on pretzels and water. Have the fast food salad or the grilled chicken sandwich without mayo. When your friend goes to the restroom, hotwire the car and drive off.)
You excitedly tell your "friend" of your success but encounter jealousy rather than encouragement.
(Possible solutions: Understand that her jealousy has nothing to do with you. Recognize that you have learned something about your "friend," and adjust your expectations accordingly. File for divorce from her.)
Friends or relatives suddenly descend on you for a weekend stay.
(Possible solutions: Tell them they are on their own or are welcome to join you in your usual activities and foods. Suddenly discover dozens of social engagements that you can't miss.)
Incidentally, Einstein's Theory of Relatives is a little-known explanation of the family's impact on the space-time continuum. Briefly, the theory states that space shortens and time lengthens with the appearance of relatives.
You're stuck at an airport for several hours because of bad weather
(Possible solutions: Use the time to walk around the airport. Spend time observing people's eating habits. Use the loudspeaker to convene an impromptu TOPS meeting.)
