Fit From Within
Hi Ladies
I hope it is alright to type something from a book I have been reading. I read one thing a day from it. The book is called
FIT FROM WITHIN 101 Simple Secrets to Change your Body and Your Life-Starting Today and Lasting Forever. It is by Victoria Moran. The one I read today was called
STAY CENTERED IN TODAY
It's Dangerous to get caught up in "When I get thin...," "When I get this thing licked...," and other states of future glory. This is the day you've got. No matter how praiseworthy your eating and exercise are today, your weight isn't going to be very different when you go to bed tonight from when you got up this morning. The tiny changes will add up, but don't concern yourself too much with them. Just stay in today.
When you do that, you cant stuff yourself and promise that you'll be extra "good" tomorrow, because there is no tomorrow. Today is it, and what you do today is all that matters. Staying centered in now keeps you aware of what you're doing. You're far less likely to eat absentmindedly when you're firmly rooted in this day, this meal, this project, this conversation. When you stay focused, you fully experience the day--its events, its sensations, its nauances. Life will become richer and more gratifying. You'll have fewer regrets, because regrets belong to the past. You'll worry less, because worry is about the future, and when the future becomes the present it wont be nearly as frightening. The present almost never is.
Think about it: did you ever anguish over trying to lose some set amount of weight for a wedding or a class reunion and not lose as much as you'd want, or any at all? If you went to the event anyway, how did it go? Most people would say that, unless they chose to be melodramatically miserable, they had a pretty good time. You usually do when you step into the present, willing to be part of it.
Keeping your focus on the here and now also makes it deliciously possible to eat the way you want to. Trying to do this forever or for a week or some other unwieldy amount of time is asking for trouble. If you convince yourself you can never, ever have one, you'll fantasize over pastries that haven't even been invented yet. Forever and next weekend can take care of themselves. You take care of today. I think that's why the Lord's Prayer says, "Give us this day our daily bread." Why think about the more than that? You'd either overeat today or be stuck with stale bread tomorrow.
An added incentive for staying in today is that this is where everything is happening: life, pleasure, accomplishment. Today is an amusement park with all the rides up and running. Don't wait to get your ticket. You're already here.
I hope it is alright to post something like this. If not please let me know. I just kinda thought this goes along with what Sherri has been saying here the last few days. We need to do what is right for us. Dont say we cant have. I am on a diet. We can have. We just have to learn to control ourselves. And go from day to day knowing we can make the right choice for us.
