I got this article out of my Prevention magazine and thought it was important enough to share so here it is......


Do just 1 thing!
Starting even one of these simple strategies can have a big effect on your nitrition and your overall health.

EAT 1/2 CUP BLUEBERRIES OR STRAWBERRIES EVERYDAY
Blueberries are sky-high in compounds called antioxidants, which appear to fight everything from cancer to heart disease; just 1/2 cup will double the antioxidant power of the average persons diet. ( To get the same antioxidant muscle, youd need to eat eight bananas.) Or try strawberries, also a super antioxidant source. frozen berries are fine; sprinkle them on cereal, or stir them into yogurt, Aim for four 1/2 cup servings of fruit a day.


DRINK A 6 OR 8 OZ CAN OF TOMATO JUICE OR VEGETABLE JUICE COCKTAIL EVERY DAY
Ideally, you should aim for five servings of vegetables a day, but could there be an easier way than this to get one serving inside your body? The more veggies you eat the lower your risk of heart attack, stroke, and cancer. Lycopene in tomato products seems to help fight prostate and breast cancers. just one 8 oz serving a day of V8 juice raises mens lypocene levels by 45%.

TAKE A MODERATE MULTIVITAMIN/MINERAL SUPPLEMENT DAILY.
You still need your fruit and vegetables, but as insurance against possible shortfalls, after age 50, you may lose your ability to absorb the form of vitamin b-12 found in food, which can lead to memory loss. Thats why the prestigious National Academy of Sciences advises those over 50 to get more easily absorbed synthetic form of b-12 found in multis.

Thanks for the info. It is always good to get info like this. The only one I would do is the strawberries. I love them but I never buy them.LOL

Thanks Christie, I have had a hard time getting my vegetables in every day, as I don't really like them much. I can't eat raw vegetables, and the cooked ones seem so plain. Does anyone have any simple receipes for cooked vegetables that will dress them up a little wihtout adding calories? I like blueberries, but only with heavy cream and sugar, so they are not an option. Now the strawberries, ymmmmm. I think some are on sale at the local market this week, so will treat myself. Do any of you have the same mind set as I do, or did, until just recently. That is, it is too expensive, so I just will do without. Well, a few weeks ago, I decided that I will buy that occasional lamb chop or off season fruit because I need some encouragement to stay op and I do get so tired of the same food all the time. I also determined to try a new fruit or vegetable each week. I had my first mango and was very surprised that I really enjoyed it. Last week I bought Raspberry flavored pickled beets. That was a failure. Well I decided to try something new each week, didn't say I had to like it! Hope you all have a great and op day. Mary ann
