:smug: Hello all,
I"M BACK!.......... Flight home arrived aprx 3:30, DH and I immeadieately went Dishwasher shopping as ours now has two pieces needing repair. The one piece at least let it operate, the 2nd piece broke Friday and will not let the machine operate. Between servcie call, parts and labor charges we don't think repairing a 10 yr old "inexepensive" machine is worth it. ( who knows if we could even get parts....) ..... In addition, while I was away, the a/c problem continues. Now we have a compressor to replace as soon as it arrives. (am hoping arrives today so it can be installed today while I am still home but .......:^: )....Yes, the compressor itself is nearly $1,000.00. And of course, only the unit we have is only about 20 minutes beyone warranty....... Unfortunately, the compressor somehow also is needed to heat the house so we can't "wait till next summer".... Our house gets far too warm on our nearly treeless lot to do without. And as I said, even if decided to go for window a/c, heating the house later will be an issue too. Anyway, it was excellent to see my parents and just spend hours doing nothing but letting the conversation go where it might. Both are doing really well. And I did really well food wise and even got a short walk in every morning before temps got too warm. And believe it or not, it was hot but not as hot as home. Must admit, hit the frozen yogurt stand coming home but all in all, considering it was "Vacation" I did very well food and activity wise. So.... off to start some laundry and do some dishes ( a pile was awaiting me) Glad to see everyone is hanging in ! |
Hello girls! Sounds like your all doing pretty well on here. I would like to join in its been awhile. I recognized some names from months before. I am doing pretty well with counting my cals about 1450 a day. My exercise hasn't been a strong pt. due to me being quite busy lately. My exercise has been more on the carrying furniture, helping my SIL with moving, helping with a building a room carrying sheet rock. But not typical exercise. Things are slowing down a bit and now I can reach my treadmill. By the end of this week I can use it again. I would like to join here in hopes to have some of your motivation rub off on me. I have set a goal for 12 more lbs. by next year. My final goal then of course maintaining. I have a daughter getting married in June so something wonderful to work towards. No dress yet I would like to get down before then. I recently lost some wt. that I so stupidly put back on. So now I am at my lower wt. my mini goal is 2lbs. by 8/18. Now that is doable. I lose slow but thats okay putting it back on is not. Well take care.

Fresh Start Monday in the Summer Palace
Good morning :queen:lies! I do like a fresh start, even if I don't need a "do-over."
At last, at last, I can move my ticker. Two fluffies gone where the bad fluffies go.  I should get my 20-lb. ribbon or whatever at WW today! :) And my 1st 10% is within hailing distance, too. I didn't count off 21 days, although I'm sure I had at least one stretch like that. Since I've got vacation coming up next week, I want to really start focusing, though. It's hard enough to squeeze any weight off -- if I slacked off I'd lose ground. And that, my friends, I am not willing to do. Same behaviors as last time. I've been getting in a set of tai chi and meditating almost every day for a very long time now, getting lots of exercise, drinking gallons of water, trying to have more fun. Getting habitual... I've become rock-like in my resolve in party/dining out situations. I'm just not even considering banned substances, not for a second. It's easy now my mind's made up. Yesterday, at my writing group, my hostess served whole wheat, oatmeal, chocolate chip walnut cookies. At one point I would have decided they were so healthy I'd go ahead. But I never even thought about it. And in the 15 or so "special occasions" in the past couple of months, that's the norm. Important for me, because a slip can lead me way off the path I've so laboriously beaten. Kaylets, I'm glad you had such a nice time with the parentals! V. sorry to hear about your A/C problems, although I'm glad you've got a solid reason why you need to get it fixed. Hope it's done while you're still off :) Sounds awfully like your appliances and etc. are ganging up on you though! Anagram, yes, Sunday was a pretty quiet day round the palace. Queens all off doing various things. But... it's Monday! (Why does that just not seem as festive as the proclamation of Friday? ) I'm so looking forward to a couple of weeks that don't start with an alarm. Ahhhhhh! Just have to get a shipload of work done this week... And with that I am off like the proverbial herd of turtles. Avanti! |
Well the food is good....and I'm on vacation! I really don't eat after 8 but, I think the quantities are more than I would at home. However. As I figured the wine is a problem....too many happy hours. However, I'm OK. Still no walking though...maybe tomorrow. Have managed to read 2 books ...am moving onto 5th horseman...Patterson. All in all totally relaxed.
See the palace was quiet over the week end...that is good. Glad you had a good visit Kaylets....I am where you were. Casmac...good to see you again. Sure join right in...where is Clutha? Anyway, it is good to see you all...I don't check in as often here...at the cottage I mean. Take care...I really hate typing on a laptop...the keys are all weird. |
Welcome back, Firefly. Glad you checked in, ceara. And that you had such a good time, Kaylets. Sounds like you needed that break what with the attack of the appliances and all.
How did your weigh in go, Wood Nymph? Hope the pre-vacation overload is going smoothly. Any word on the possible cottage visitor? Day two down of the "no eating after eight" challenge. I really find this one tough as I'm an evening nosher for sure. No, I WAS - I'm going to lock it down this time. And throw away the key. Calories under 1800 easily yesterday. ALMOST ate lunch out yesterday as I was running lots of errands. But I was leaning towards a buffet place as I was RIGHT THERE (save gas, you know). And I would have had lots of salad but their salad does have a lot of other things on it - so I came home for a yogurt and a little pb on graham cracker. I feel so much better this morning that I did that, of course. Did tai chi class yesterday, looks like pool on for today. additional med seems to be helping a bit but I'm making sure to rest enough to recover from the mono too. Can't quite believe that yet but I sure have been exhausted enough. |
Hello all!
Yes, Anagram, isn't it a terrific "Pat myself on the back " feeling when we make a better choice ?? I am trying not to stress about what I might find on my desk. I am doing some deep breathing and trying to remember that everybody hates the first day back. Grrrr.... Here we go Tuesday, here we go! GREEN for GO! **** Thought of the day : "The most valuable thing we can make is a mistake. We can't learn anything by being perfect." Question of the day : "What do you always make 'homemade'? " ******* Here I go, please send good vibes, I'm really dreading getting back to work today! :( |
starting late to 21 day challenge:
1. I WILL DRINK AT LEAST 8 (8OZ) GLASSES OF WATER 2. I WILL WALK 30MIN. 4 TIMES A WEEK 3. I WILL STRETCH THE OTHER 3 DAYS A WEEK FOR 20 MIN. STARTED ON 8/8/06------WILL CHECK IN ON 8/29/06 RENE |
Good morning, Queenlies!
All right -- picture this: Yesterday, after the blasted scales finally registered the two fluffy ones gone, I prepared for official WW WI in a state of agitation (I always seem to be agitated before WW these days... hmmm... wonder what that's about?) and when, at last, it was time to go I hopped in the car and got over there and ... no WW. The meeting was cancelled, for some unknown reason. I may try to get to a meeting somewhere else this week, esp. if I have another really promising WI. I want to get a free miss-a-meeting coupon for Monday, because I'll be at the cottage, first day free of MIL and nephew and won't want to drive in. People are not being very cooperative about letting me know their plans. MIL has changed her dates. She's arriving the day I take possession of the cottage so it would be really helpful if she'd tell us when she gets in. The new dates work fine, except that I'd planned a big party for the day after she is now going to be leaving. I'll try to roll it into a less formal party I'd been planning for the day before she leaves, a get-together for the big parade that passes our house that day and lunch afterwards. SIL has, likewise, not gotten back to us to tell us her preferences about dates for her to host them. She often does that and then springs something on us as a fait accompli. Much easier to get what she wants if she doesn't tell us what that is... :dz: I seem to be a little on the cranky side today. Didn't manage meditation or fun yesterday -- will make more of an effort today! I got up and scrubbed a bathroom, started laundry, tidied the kitchen. I hope to putter the house into some semblance of order today so I'll feel better tomorrow. Going to go for a little woggle, do some tai chi. I may return to class ce soir... Kaylets, I was just thinking I didn't even want to hit my desk this morning. Gotta tell us something if the thought of heading to work puts us out of sorts. :chin: Let's put in an order to the Universe for more suitably royal positions! Re: QOD -- I make just about everything homemade. But we hardly eat baked goods. Occasionally I buy salad dressing. Anagram, afternoons are my traditionally difficult time. I guess I go to bed within a few hours of dinner so evenings aren't so problematic. I ate too much yesterday afternoon -- on the couch. I'm going to reenact the law that doesn't allow me to eat other than at the table when alone. I did make the frozen banana-cocoa "ice cream" that Eydie (Hey Eydie! Lurkest thou?) recommended, if memory serves. Wow -- it really works great! I'm going to buy overripe bananas when next I see them and pop some single-servings in the freezer. Ceara, I'm happy to hear you're relaxing! Can hardly wait to do the same myself :cloud9: Firefly, nice to see you've flitted back, reignited! Welcome, endthereign! K, Dovies. I'm off! Avanti! |
Hello all,
Imagine my surprise when I realized its been or near full moon. How interesting that I didnt know it was full moon and didnt anticipate 'full moon issues'. Although, for sure, it sure seems as though our appliance issues could fall into that category! Luckily, the temps here are more livable which the a/c can handle better although the circuit breaker is still tripping but not as often. And the dishes can be washed by hand although so far, I am the only one who knows that. So.... First day back is behind me. Today I go in to request a day to go w/ DH for an eye procedure and then a day in Sept too. I admit, I cracked yesterday and bought a candy bar from the vending machine. The price of that and a soda should've shocked me into reality mode but no, not so. Today I hope grape tomatoes from the garden will get me by the rough spots. *****************. Thought of the day : Show this to your children and grandchildren THE YEAR 1906 This will boggle your mind, I know it did mine! The year is 1906. One hundred years ago. What a difference a century makes! Here are some of the U.S. statistics for the Year 1906 : ************************************ The average life expectancy in the U.S. was 47 years. Only 14 percent of the homes in the U.S. had a bathtub. Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone. A three-minute call from Denver to New York City cost eleven dollars. There were only 8,000 cars in the U.S., and only 144 miles of paved roads. The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph. Alabama, Mississippi, Iowa, and Tennessee were each more heavily populated than California. With a mere 1.4 million people, California was only the 21st most populous state in the Union. The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower! The average wage in the U.S . was 22 cents per hour. The average U.S. worker made between $200 and $400 per year . A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year. More than 95 percent of all births in the U.S. took place at HOME . Ninety percent of all U.S. doctors had NO COLLEGE EDUCATION! Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press AND the government as "substandard.." Sugar cost four cents a pound. Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen. Coffee was fifteen cents a pound. Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used borax or egg yolks for shampoo. Canada passed a law that prohibited poor people from entering into their country for any reason. Five leading causes of death in the U.S. were: 1. Pneumonia and influenza 2. Tuberculosis 3. Diarrhea 4. Heart disease 5. Stroke The American flag had 45 stars. Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Hawaii, and Alaska hadn't been admitted to the Union yet. The population of Las Vegas, Nevada, was only 30!!!! Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and ice tea hadn't been invented yet. There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day. Two out of every 10 U.S. adults couldn't read or write. Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school. Eighteen percent of households in the U.S . had at least one full-time servant or domestic help. There were about 230 reported murders in the ENTIRE ! U.S.A. ! Now I forwarded this from someone else without typing it myself, and sent it to you and others all over the United States, possibly the world, in a matter of seconds! Try to imagine what it may be like in another 100 years. Question of the day : "What would you expect in the next 100 years ?" *** Welcome to our new royals...... Let's keep up the good work.... the first step is the hardest.... GREEN FOR GO!!! Here we go Wednesday, here we go!! :carrot:  |
Been away for a while and I still managed to keep up the lack of alcohol - which was a real challenge on my weekend away and managed to write it _all_ down! Go me!!!!

Hello girls sounds like everyone is doing well. I checked the scale and I am down 1.5 from last weeks scale day. Oh it feels great. Finally some movement again. I lost wt. earlier this spring before a trip to Hawaii to see my son and DIL. Then it creeped back on. Since 6/26 I have taken off 6.5lbs. and it feels really good. I still have around 10lbs. to lose then maybe I will decide to even try a bit lower if I can manage it. At anyrate its nice to see some positive changes. I am trying for the next 21 days to drink more water and to increase my exercise. I will put it in my journal to track it.
Arabella enjoy the cottage it sounds like fun. To bad there wasn't any ww cause you sure should beable to log in that loss. Hope your able to catch up with another ww station. How long have you been on ww? Sounds like your doing great. Anagram nice to hear from you again. I am going to join you in the 8 p.m. stop eating idea. Since my SIL moved into our house I tend to slip a bit into later snacking. Usually its something healthy a piece of fruit or maybe a small ice cream but I should do it before 8 makes sense. Well have a good day everyone and keep up the good work and it will pay off soon. |
Hello all!
Boy oh boy, am I tired! Its got to be partly the days of not so much sleep at my folks as I don't sleep well in a new place. And then of course, coming back to work.... Just a quick hello and love to all.... As they say on the show w/ the designers and Heidi Klum ( Sp?) "Make it work!~" Time to feed the doggies and then just go to sleep! |
I hope I'm not late, cuz......
:carrot: It's Friday :carrot: Just a quick posty, again, since our internet service has been sporadic at best this week. Grrrrrr...... Had a great visit with the bestest friend, feel like a blimp now even though I tried to watch my intake. On a sad note, I lost my old kitty on Sunday afternoon - she passed on the way to the vet - just old age. We'd been talking about making "the decision" after my friends went home, but like I told my mom, when it's time, it's time and company or no, she was ready. Really very sad, but it was nice having my friends there with me that night. Of course it did lead to a little food-fest. There are just some old habits that will never break. Eating to feel better after a death - sorry, it will probably always be my thing. Ok, so nuff sad stuff! I'll be back next week! Promise. As long as my IP cooperates! Have a great weekend one and all, Terri |
Fly-by  All goes well -- I take possession of the cottage today and have, I think, worked out how to deal with guests and still be able to relax and enjoy myself. Weather report for next three days was cool temps and rain, but today's dawned bright and sunny. The cottage is on a sheltered bay so I'm hoping the water's warm anyway. I intend to swim! And there's a wood stove if the evenings get cool.
Punkinseed, sweetie, so sorry about your kitty! They do know when it's time to go though, don't they. :grouphug: Kaylets, hope you get rested up this weekend! Have you got your A/C and dishwasher working again? I know what you mean when you say that you were the only one that understood dishes could also be washed by hand :dz: Firefly (I always start to type your name and then get lost in the letter sequence), congrats on the loss. Oh yeah, I remember now that you were getting ready to go to Hawaii -- good trip? Anagram, it was insane trying to get ready to take a measly week off  I did my regular work ahead and will still hear complaints that it was crazy while i was off. I think I need a lower-pressure job. Preferably one with summers OFF  K, I should be able to pop in from the cottage but will be on dial-up I think. Take care, Queenlies. And AVANTI! |
Punkin, I couldn't let you soldier on alone ! Large fall from grace here. Sorry about your old kittie but glad you had friends to help cushion the loss.
I've been off helping Princess Five become Princess Six. Even took slimfast with me but even that didn't do trick. But am back now - went to lovely concert in park tonight with new friend. Just what I needed, I think. And tomorrow shall start a renewed, refreshed Anagram. Always love to be here in my own castle despite the allure of going off to other realms. Must return a call or two as well and then off to an early bedtime so I'll be ready to go in the a.m. Hope the cottage is as relaxing as it sounds, Arabella. Think not of the return. We know they can't do without you. Now it's their turn to know it. Onward and downward. |
