Weight Loss and Chit Chat #191

Hello and welcome to the Jaded Ladies.

We are a group of ladies who come in for support and encouragement on our weight loss struggles. And we also find time for some chitchatting! :gossip:
So please, won't you join us??

Jane 05-20-2006 08:01 AM

Good morning Ladies,

Katiecat - did they ever find anything for you to do at work, or are you being of lady of leisure, drawing workman's comp? Hope you aren't in too much pain, sweetie.

Marti - yay for Jhanai having a job already! What initiative! When I was 11, all I did was babysit. No, Katie isn't even sure where she wants to work. She picked up some applications, though. She's enjoying the time off, after working so many hours a week.

Angelia - miss you and hope all is well.

Michelle - yep, I'm doing WW again. It's the only plan that's flexible enough for me. If a person plans ahead, no event or meal is out of the question. If you're interested, let me know if you need any help, and I'm here for you, ok?

Sue - don't get me started on the phone company! They were so late showing up to hook up our phone, that they gave us 2 $25.00 credits on our bill. We ended up hooking several loooong cords together from the old house to the new one to use until they showed. I was not a happy camper, lol.

Jules - your DH sounds like Neal. When he needs to go to the doctor, I just about have to force him. Then he's always glad he went. He is scheduled for a sleep evaluation next month, and fought that like crazy. I think he finally agreed to do it to shut me up, lol.

Cristina - enjoy your son! I know you will. Katie's first few days home were busy with catching up with her friends. Actually, she's still doing that. The balloons sound like such a cool idea. What did he think of them?

Robin - sorry I spaced it, but when are you leaving for the Macinaw trip? Sounds like loads of fun. I sent Neal on a scavenger hunt when we were newly married. I was at the end of it, at a very nice hotel. I had packed his clothes for him, and arranged for my sister to watch the kids. We had so much fun! Anyway, did Robin O decide to stay home, or at least on the bus?

Hello to anyone else reading this.

Ahhhh, I don't have anything planned for today, other than normal Saturday stuff. I feel like I've been meeting myself coming and going, and am going to enjoy the day.

I'm going to look for a recipe for low-cal apple crisp. Katie has asked for it, for Sunday's dessert, and I know I can substitute light margarine for the butter, but what about the brown sugar? The low-cal substitutes for that are awful, imho. I may just make cooked apples with cinnamon and Spenda, and serve it with FF Cool Whip.

Have a good day, friends,

Michelle 05-20-2006 09:26 AM

Jules ~ Chinese food is my biggest temptation and downfall! I know it CAN be healthy, but my favorites there are the pork fried rice, fried shrimp, and fried sesame seed mar far chicken; see everything is FRIED! Are you still writing everything you eat down, and if so, are you noticing a difference yet? I just weighed myself today and I'm back OP, because I want this weight off by the end of next May!:dizzy:

Jane ~ I have never tried WW before, but I've heard very good reviews about it.:) I did go online and check it out for the online version. I thought about doing that, but it's still pretty spendy, so I'm back to counting calories again.:^: Hope you can relax a little today!;)

jules1216 05-20-2006 09:58 AM

Michelle ma belle--my fave chinese is moo shu with either chicken or just veggies--I usually also get a side of fried rice or lo mein in all their greasy glory!!

Jane--Neal and Jerry do sound alike when it comes to doctors--when he says he needs to go I am right on it before he changes his mind and I go with him because he says he feels better when I go---aw sweet huh!!

Well I can't stay on long--DD, DS & gf and another friend are on their way to a concert in DC--along with two more car loads--they are going to stop at the Shady Grove metro station and ride the metro instead of actually driving into DC and finding parking. I need to not have the phone ring busy if they need us!!

suetalks 05-20-2006 11:14 AM

Good sunny morning to you all. After all that rain I was wondering if I could ever say that again. I haven't been to the new lot today, but hope the muddy ruts dry up for those guys by Mon. Of course, DH is over there already, working on his barn.

Jules- Yes, I am in IN and I am closer to Indy than I am to our Ms. Jane. I know what you mean about not tying up the phone lines. Any time we are expecting a call or the kids are on the road I can't get online. :( I am dreaming of a cable modem someday.... (oh, my DH is also Jerry)

Jane- I was more fond of the old "small town" phone companies. The ones that you talked to a live person and they knew of any local problems. They also came out, usually that day. Some times progress seems like it is realy setting us back. AND they think everyone has a cell phone which they can put on hold forever. We have a pay as you go cell that we use for traveling emergencies only. I don't give the number out simply because we never leave it on. They asked me several times if I had a number where I could be reached..I said "NO, I will be at home. My phone is out of order." DUH.

Michelle- Although I am not tempted by Chinese, I am tempted by FRIED. Luckily I haven't done any of that this week. My downfall for the week was pizza, but I had eaten okay the rest of the day...and had no snack last night. So I don't feel too badly about it. (I was kicking myself last night) but today is another day. All we can do is vow to try, right?

I have some household chores today (don't we always?) Also trying to get things out and ready for a sale for next week-end. DH is going to play cards for the evening so I will do some shopping later today and possibly take myself out for dinner. I have been wanting to try a new Panera Bread (?) and have been told that DH probably won't like it....so I might stop there on my jaunt. We have to go to a nearby town for most of our errands and there are plenty of food choices along the way. (some days that is a bad thing....)

Have fun ladies and I will talk to you later.

jules1216 05-20-2006 11:57 AM

Sue--back on real quick since they have made it to DC!! That's two funny that both our Dh'S are Jerry's and creative yours with wood and mine with metal (and engines) My DH suprised me with a yellow rose made out of metal scraps that he welded together and painted after an especially hard day. As far as fried--as a latch key kid I grew up on soda & chips and everything fried!!!

I love Panera Bread--my favorite is the greek salad and the french onion soup. There website give you nutritional info--I was suprised at the calories but we usually have a light breakfast and dinner on Panera Bread lunch days because a whole salad fills you up!!

Since we are sticking close to the house and phone I may be back!!

Marti 05-20-2006 12:38 PM

Good Morning Ladies...

Not a lot of time to post today as I need to get breakfast started for my family. Pancakes! I love pancakes and never make them.....so I decided that it's time to make some!

We had rain yesterday.....so everything is damp. But the sun it out today.

What are everyones plans for Memorial Day weekend? I had volunteered to work a few hours on Monday just to get a little overtime....and the stinkers decided that that weekend would also be my scheduled weekend to work!! So now I work on Saturday all day and a few hours on Monday. Some weekend! Not looking forward to it at all!

Ok....gotta get outta here!

Hugs to you all and individuals next time.....maybe by Monday since I have to have computer time in spurts!

Katiecat 05-20-2006 01:21 PM

Hullo, and happy Saturday :carrot:

Much happier for me than yesterday. I woke up yesterday morning with the bladder infection from ****! ACK!!! :yikes: Actually was up all night Thursday, just about every hour on the hour, and finally called the advice nurse at 5 am in tears. Fortunately she was able to diagnose over the phone and get an Rx called in to the pharmacy. Still not feeling peachy, but much better than yesterday. Definitely getting my water intake in  And lots and lots of cranberry juice.

We went to a play last night, called "The Sugar Bean Sisters". Goofy play about two crazy sisters that live in a swamp in Florida, with romance, murder, and alien abduction -- weird, but lots of fun. Angie, the set, costumes, and props were all really well done, I thought of all the hard work you've done behind the scenes for so many plays. :encore:

Jane, ask and you shall receive. I found a WW Apple Crisp recipe that doesn't call for sugar substitute. I'll post it on the recipe thread. They sent me home on Monday, said there was nothing for me to do, didn't call me all week, then finally called on Thursday and said they have light duty work for Friday and all next week. After that I should be back on the phones, doctor is just requiring a 5-10 min break every half hour to rest my arm.

Cristina, bet you are having lots of fun with your son! What did he think of the balloons? :woo:

Jules, never tried Panera Bread, but I've heard they are really good -- will have to check out the points on their website first, though! ;) My favorite lunch spot right now is Dos Coyotes. They make a Yin Yang salad with grilled chicken, jicama, red peppers...so good! I have the asian dressing on the side and just use a little, but I should check to see if they have nutrition info on their website. For home, I actually love Berstein's Light Fantastic Oriental dressing. Thanks for the info on B vitamins -- the surgery I had was for radial tunnel, but the dr. saw the beginnings of carpal tunnel problems, too, so I will try that. I should be taking my vitamins for the challenge, anyway, hmm?

Michelle, check out the recipe thread -- I recently posted a recipe for chicken fried rice that is really good, and pretty lowfat/lowcal. You could easily substitute lean pork, like a boneless chop sliced up into small pieces, for the chicken. If you really crave Chinese food, I can look for some other recipes to try...

Marti, yeah, my Memorial Day weekend plans are shot, too. We were going to go away, since it was supposed to be my Friday off (I work 9 hour days to get every other Friday off). But since the keep messing with my schedule, I have to work the 26th, so we cancelled our reservations in Fort Bragg *sigh* Probably just as well, should save our money since we just spent $1200 on the termite company yesterday, ouch! :fr: I am sorry you have to work most of the weekend, though! Hope they pay you very well for Monday.

Sue, really frustrating to lose service due to storms :tantrum: :censored: Glad you are back up and running though. We have cable modem, and have lost service a lot lately, even had problems with the cable TV. grrr...

Robin, have a great time in Mackinac, thanks for keeping your eyes open for that hat!

Lazy Saturday, didn't make it to WW because I still felt too crummy to roll out of bed at 6am. I HAVE to go to the bank this morning, and I think we will go to Benihana for lunch, but not planning any other errands. Gonna stay home and relax and drink my cranberry juice! Take care everyone, and see you soon...

:grouphug:
Katiecat

Marti 05-20-2006 01:41 PM

Well....neither wants to get up today!! So I decided to peak in to try and do some individual chatting!!

Jane--Now....if you're having everything else in the recipe low cal or healthy, would having just normal brown sugar really make a difference? Maybe that's my problem when I try to make something healthy. I figure "Hey, most of it is low cal, low fat, this one item isn't going to hurt if it's high in what ever it may be" Did any of that make sense??? Apple Crisp sounds SO good. I haven't had some in so long!

Michelle--I LOVE chinese food and it's so hard to deny myself of any of it! I love all the stuff you listed and more. And afterwards I feel so bloated and fat from all the sodium I just devoured!! I've been watching my calories lately too. It's just something I need to do. Let's count calories together. Now...to get in more exercise. I just received WATP dvd's. I'm going to start them on Monday and see what I think of them.

Sue--I've never heard of Panera bread. What's it taste like? I'm a bread lover! That is one downfall that I have. Especially freshly baked bread. I didn't even really discover this about myself until recently when we didn't have bread in the house and I was having some kind of bizarre bread withdrawl. Then I had to think of how often I eat it. A lot! Need to limit myself.

Jules--I love greek salad and onion soup! I have been wanting to find a good recipe for onion soup so I can make it myself. But haven't found one yet. Well...I have recipes, but silly me goes by the way the photo looks and if it's not appealing looking I won't make it! Crazy I know.

Katie--So sorry about the Bladder infection! I know how painful those are! Working next weekend is a bummer for me...when I could of had a three day weekend, I only get one day off. NO fair. How is your arm doing today?

Well hey...one member is up so I need to get off of here. Hubby wants the computer.

chat w/you all later!

FrouFrou 05-20-2006 06:38 PM

Hello ladies...

Well, Josh is home. Made it to and fro the airport with not problems and no traffic, everything is hunky dory! And Josh loved the balloons! The cake and everything! Since V had to go into work early this a.m (he's my walking partner on the weekend) Josh went in his place. He had planned on getting up to go jogging and I told him I go walk at 6. He said that will do and he'll go. He's going to go tomorrow to. V said he would go if Josh doesn't want to but I thought it would be great to let him sleep in. He's worked so much this past week he deserves it. Anyway, just been spending the day with Josh. He is enjoying being home and I know these two weeks are going to fly by :( We just got back from the movie. Went to see Scary Movie 4, goofy movie. Going to BBQ at about 6 or 6:30. Made a potato salad earlier and bought a seedless watermelon, yummy to my tummy! I love watermelon! :T He's taking a nap right now which is good because they got them up early yesterday morning. He was 3 hours from LAX and was at the airport at 6:30 and on the plane at 7:30 and didn't go to bed until about midnight last night. Just good to have him home.

JANE...the apple crisp sounds good! Bet you are loving Katie being home.

MARYKATE...sorry about the bladder infection. I've never had one myself but my sister used to get them bad and I saw the pain she went through with them.

JULES...thank you for the card! :thanks: That was cute! I wouldn't even wear a thong though at my size, lol! Not sure I would wear one if I was skinny!

MARTI...I'll have to go back and read the other thread to see what kind of job Jhanai has. Good for her though, such a sweetie she is. Did you get those pancakes this morning? We don't have plans for Memorial weekend but I am sure we will be doing some type of yard work and BBQ'ing.

SUE...I've never tried Panera bread either but have heard good things about it on the radio station I listen to. Going to have to go in there sometime.

MICHELLE...I never used to be a fan of chinese food but like some of it now. When I was younger I never ventured out to try new things but now I do.

HI to everyone else!

Need to get going and do some more posting and finish my bedroom off. V is going to kill me because he is tired of painting but...we are going to have to change our bathroom, lol. The bedding we just got is magnolias and I don't think the pink bath with the big roses complements it. So thinking a cream color in the bath with green/sage rugs, valance and the magnlioa border that matches the comforter and valances in the bedroom. It looks so much better than the other one, the one I took back, ick. Anyway, take care ladies and have a good weekend!

Michelle 05-20-2006 10:59 PM

Jules ~ I'm also tempted with fried foods! See why I've got problems?

Katiecat ~ I will check out that receipe, but I will use chicken breast meat, because that sounds really good!:thanks:  We also have Benihana here, but I've never been there.;)

Marti ~ Chinese food does make me feel really bloated, and I have sodium retention for a couple of days afterwards. I don't know why I keep going back for it, but it's just so darn good! I'm happy you got some WATP videos and are going to try them out! They are GREAT!:running:

Cristina ~ See what you've been missing for so long by not wanting chinese food; the bloating and sodium retention LOL.:yikes: I'm so glad Josh made it home safely, and it's so nice that you and him can go on walks together and have some mother/son time alone.

Hello to everyone else and hope you're all having a good evening!:grouphug:

suetalks 05-20-2006 11:38 PM

Good evening. Well, I still haven't tried Panera Bread. I ended up not going to that area. So, I can't answer any questions about the place.
I spent a good portion of time this evening making DH a cd of photos of the house progress. I had to line up all the photos and caption each one. I had been unloading the digital on the computer every day or two. Then we had a roll of film in the regular camera, so I had to scan some of those and put them into the order. Finally got April and May all in order and loaded on the cd. Now I hope I can remember to keep taking pictures.

Also spent about an hour talking to my CA DD. We talk a couple times a week, but briefly. So tonight was a treat. Her DH was fixing dinner while we gabbed. She has found out she needs surgery (hysterectomy) and will find out a date after her appt. with a surgeon. She has known this was coming for years, actually had put it off once so she could have DGS. Then she seemed to be better for awhile after his birth. Now she can't get out of it however. I had told her that I would come and be with her afterward to take care of DGS and help her out. Well, that was when she was single and needed me more. I didn't know if she still wanted me to come or not, but tonight she said "yes, please." So I will be doing that and she thinks it will be Sept. I hope it is not earlier than that as we will be moving at some point. Oh well, things have a way of working out.

Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday. I have no plans, but I am sure we will clean more closets & shelves. I have a nice stash of goodies for our sale and we haven't even gotten to the attic and barn yet.

Talk soon.....

FrouFrou 05-21-2006 11:36 AM

Good morning ladies...

Was up bright and early for my 3 mile walk. Ya know...some days I just dread getting up so early. I don't dread the walk at all, just getting up at that time. I miss my sleeping in on Sunday mornings but at the same time, I like getting it out of the way first thing. It's done and over and I can get on with the day so...

MICHELLE...guess I don't know what I am missing, lol! But I do like Chinese food. DS#1 and I plan on going on a lucnh date in a while and eating chinese. I can't remember the last time I had it. But all this talk about it is making me want it! I am trying to spend as much time as possible with Josh (DS#2) while he is home, I actually think he is enjoying it too! I know next week he will be off doing other things so will enjoy it while I can.

SUE...glad DD took you up on your offer of helping her out, that way she can take it easy and relax and you get to visit so you both win. Sept. seems like a long time to wait though. Great idea making CD's of your house pix. Do you guys have an estimated date as to when your house will be finished?

Hi to everyone else

Nothing much on the agenda for today. Have some cleaning to catch up on and I AM going to do some reading! Really am behind on that. I stated once that I was aiming for 3-4 books a month, can't remember it's been so long. But I haven't even read one book that last two months! And I LOVE to read! Plus I just got a few new books and am anxious to get started on them. V gave me a gift card from Barnes & Noble. Anyway...take care ladies and have a wonderful day!

Marti 05-21-2006 01:20 PM

Morning!!

Oh how I LOVE getting up earlier now and actually having a weekend!! I feel spoiled!:D

Cristina--Jhanai will be helping out by price tagging and folding clothes. It's a 2nd hand clothes shop for kids. And if there is anything she see's and likes...she can have it. (a bonus there!)

Michelle--I just seen in your signature that you do the WATP! Do you really enjoy them?? Do you use them everyday? I got the idea to get them from Cristina!:) Then a friend gave me the dvd's, so I'm anxious to try them out!

Sue--What a busy job putting photos in order!! Do you have a time when you think the house will be done?? James and I have been talking and have decided that we need to move closer to where we work....gas at $3.00 or more a gallon is just too much! Plus we'd be so close to everything. We're hoping to find a house by fall. We're already getting the information w/getting a loan. Would love to have a house built though! Someday maybe.

Hello to the rest of you gals out there!! Hope you're having a lovely Sunday.

My plans today are to take it easy. I do have some laundry to catch up on but that's about it.

Better get Jhanai up. She was wanting to sleep in today...but she'll have a hard time getting up tomorrow if I don't get her up now!!

Hugs to all!

Michelle 05-21-2006 02:22 PM

Cristina ~ Great job getting your 3 mile walk in so early this morning! Have fun going out for chinese food today and enjoy!:hungry:

Marti ~ I'm always up early now on the weekends. Sometimes I wish I could sleep in, but I just can't seem to do it anymore!:( I do love WATP and I have about 12-13 of them. I was in a good habit with them 6 days a week, but have slacked off the past 3 weeks, but I will get back to them. They are my favorites and the only thing that I do work out to!:running:

Sue ~ I hope your DD surgery goes good. I had a hysterectomy last year, March 2005, and it's the best thing that I've ever done! The recovery is a little slow, but oh how good you feel later!:D

jules1216 05-21-2006 02:32 PM

Katiecat--that salad sounds yummy!! I can't say if the Vitamin B complex will help or not--I know it seems to help my stress level when I remember to take them--maybe I need something for my memory....

Marti--I'd like a good lowfat recipie for onion soup myself--I love almost any soup you can think of but that's one of my tops.

Cristina--I don't think I'd wear a thong either even if I lost 100 lbs--I got Sue Grafton's "S is for SIlence" and Fit After 40 and "Natural Highs" on how depleted we really are on vitamins and how it affects us--very interesting!!

Michelle ma belle--hi there!! fried and salty are my things--got me some Mrs Dash Friday--trying to cut back on the salt shaker see if that helps any.

Jane--hope you are having a good day--I am thinking we are going to have to send a search party to Canada to find Angelia!!

Hope everyone has a great day!! Back to cleaning for me!!

Michelle 05-21-2006 02:39 PM

Jules ~ I LOVE Mrs. Dash! Last year when I lost my 40 pounds, that was the only seasoning I used, but it is so spendy for such a small bottle. I still use it though, because of no sodium and I love the different flavors, especially the chicken flavor is my most favorite!;)

jules1216 05-21-2006 06:26 PM

Michelle ma belle-I ended up getting regular and a southwest chipolte.

Jane 05-21-2006 08:20 PM

Hiya ladies,

Angelia - hope you're having a good weekend. How are you feeling now that you're back at work? Was last week your first week back? I lose track of time, so forgive me if that's not right. I sure do miss you around here.

Katie - aww, thanks for the recipe - I'll go check it out. In the meantime, I ended up making regular apple crisp. You can see on the Pointer Sistas thread how that worked out. :o I'm glad your supervisor has found some light duty for you. Hope your bladder infection is better.

Michelle - counting calories is really about the same as counting points, except we get more food if we eat more fiber, and less if we eat too much fat. As long as you focus mainly on healthy eating most of the time, I think that will work out just fine for you.

Sue - so your DD will probably visit you in Sept? Will she have the hysterectomy in Indy? I wish I had taken more pictures than I did. Even with a modular home, there was so much actual construction going on, and the landscaping alone was worth taking pictures.

Marti - sorry you have to work Mem. Day. But you could do like we're doing, and celebrate it on Sunday. Neal's brother Paul comes up from near New Orleans every year at this time and but he goes to Deborah's family on Monday, so we do our thing on Sunday. Actually, I like that best, so then I can just goof off and eat leftovers on Monday, lol.

Julie - how'd the kids like the concert? Pretty smart of them to take the Metro after they drove part way. I bet the traffic would be horrible. I've never been to DC, but would like to go someday.

Cristina - glad you're having fun with Josh. We always have melons right out our backdoor. Literally.

I had to take Neal to the ER last night. He got smacked right on the eyeball with one of the branches from a bush he was moving from the old house, and you should see his eye. Ewww. The white of it is all bloody. The good news is, it isn't even scratched - only a broken blood vessel. But it sure looks gross.

Today was relaxing, and I've been like a slug all day. But you know, it really makes a person feel worse when we don't get any exercise. I always feel much better after a work out of some kind.

Is anyone else going to watch the 2 hour finale of Desperate Housewives?

Have a good evening ladies.

Jane 05-21-2006 08:38 PM

Katie - thanks for the recipe! I printed it out for the next time. Usually, we have it in the fall, but my Katie asked for it as a special dish for when she got home from WDW.

suetalks 05-21-2006 11:01 PM

Good evening. I also was pretty lazy today. Was just changing beds and doing laundry. I did cook a roast and fixins' for dinner. Got in my walk and otherwise kind of took it easy. DH was at the lot all day so I had alone time.

Jane- No, DD is having the surgery in CA and I will try to go out there to be with her and help with the family. I envy you being at the landscaping stage. I can't even seem to get the cabinets and paint colors picked out. I HAVE to pick the cabinets in the morning.....no more procrastinating.

Michelle, Jules and anyone else who is looking in....hope you had a nice week-end and had sunshine as we did here. Isn't it a shame that we all have to clean house? No maids for any of the JL's? :)
Oh..*note to self, try Mrs. Dash*

Marti 05-22-2006 01:31 AM

Hello Girls...

Michelle--I've been thinking about getting up earlier than I have been just to make more time for "ME" :D . Do things that I need to do such as get in my exercise. If I have other things that need done before work...I tend to do that and forget the exercise. I can't continue doing that!! Tomorrow will be my first WATP day. Getting up a little early for that.

Jules--I LOVE potato soup. But....haven't figured out how to make it more health friendly. So I don't make it that often. It's one of our favorite Winter soups around here. One soup I have been wanting to try is Pumpkin soup....have you ever tried it?? Sounds good.....may try it this fall.

Jane--Jhanai & I took some flowers (plastic from Walmart) up to Grandma's yesterday. She won't be w/me on Memorial Day so she wanted to make sure that we put something up there for her. Poor Neil!! That sounds misearbly painful. Thank goodness he didn't hurt it more than that. Eyes are just something you don't want to hurt you know?

Sue--I have to agree w/you...it is a real shame that none of us have maids!! How exciting to be able to pick colors and cabinetry for your home!! Can't wait to see the final product!!

Alex--Hello and welcome. Looking forward to getting to know you more!

Angie, Katie, and all the others.....hello and how are you??

Ok.....I'm going to go close the first challenge thread and start the second week.

Chat w/you all in the morning!!

Cafe Ole 05-22-2006 08:20 AM

Morning All!

This should be an interesting 2 days here. Not sure why I am here when I have to be packed & leave at 5am on Wed morning! I am nuts! :dizzy:

Oh my gosh I hope they change the forecast! They are still calling for Tstorms & showers while we are up there UGH. :( One of the mothers said it was her fault, it always rains when she goes on trips so I told her to stay home LOL

Jules -- Lordy I hear that all over the news -- I cannot believe they are going to search the entire farm for his remains. I personally would let it rest already unless of course he was family. But still....

Jane -- did you find that recipe? sounds yummy!

Michelle -- I LOVE chinese -- pork fried rice is the best! That & general tso's -- oh yum.

Katie -- I hope you feel better - I have only had one of those once and once was enough, I know you must be miserable.

oh Panera Bread. (ok bread in general LOL) --- I love this place! Have you tried the strawberry salad? It is fabulous! Of course all of the no-no muffins & chocolate pastries are out of this world as well. I still have a GC from Christmas I have yet to use for there. The cinniman raisin bread is to die for as well when you toast it.

Sue -- did you get your cleaning done? I have a closet that I have put off for months now -- it is pretty scary. Of course it is my closet so I just keep shutting that door LOL

Cristina -- Have a fabulous time with Josh home, I hope it goes by slow enough & not too fast - of course the best times always fly by quickly don't they? Enjoy the moments!

I will check in as much as I can. My boss has decided to take 3 weeks off (got the message this morning) and the advisor's father past away so she is off to OH and will be back next week. So it is just me & the new girl until next Tues. Well of course it will be just her after Tues as I am outta here & off to Mackinaw. Somebody send me an electric shocker to stay away from that fudge! :frypan: LOL I will try to this of a pan hitting my head when I walk by those shops!

Have a fabulous morning!

Marti--I love your new avater. I work Mon-Thurs and have a three day weekend which is great. I have been seriously stressed about the workload that is being dumped on me & my downsized area. I have been considering applying to a credit card company in the area which if I can get the same position I have it is $1.00 more an hour just to start though it would probably mean a day/shift change. It would be hard to go back to a 5 day week after being on the four day one for the last eleven years. It may be the fact that I have been in the same job for eleven years also.

Michelle ma belle-I had my right ovary removed in 1995 due to a cyst the size of a lemon wrapped around it--I wanted a hysterectomy then. I had to have a D&C this past fall. I may talk to my doctor again and see about getting the procedure done--I don't want any more kids and I am miseravle at my TOM.

Sue--sounds like you have been one busy lady with all the pictures and the sale items.

Jane--the kids taking the metro was the best idea--that is what DS & I always do when we go down to tour the museums--He did mention we needed to do it again before it gets too hot--he wants to go see the newest Native American one. That's something that we do together.

Crisitina--I am enjoying S is for Silence and I got a book called Natural Highs--talking about how depleted we are in vitamins and how it affects how we function!!

Katie--hope your feeling better--I hate when my knees or neck aches.

Angelia--do we have to send out the Mounties to do a search for you!!!

Robin--hope you survive at work okay--i can relate to you!!

Well I guess my break is over--I have been interrupted by calls and people so many times it's hard to tell...that's the thing with trying to hit the internet on breaks and lunch is that I am here at my desk people want to ask me questions--even when I am eating.

Happy Monday, ladies,

Alex - if you're reading this, you found the right place! Just jump in and tell us more about yourself. If you have any problems getting in, please PM me, and I'll talk you through it, ok?

Sue - I've got a roast and the fixin's on my menu list for later this week. Great minds think alike, right? tee hee OIC about the DDs surgery. It will be such a relief for her to know you're coming out there. One mistake I made with the cabinets is getting some where the doors open only 90 degrees, instead of 180 degrees. I like the doors to fold flat when they're open and the new ones don't do this. But I never even thought about it until it was too late. Yep, our landscaping is coming right along, thank goodness.

Marti - love the avatar, toots. Hey, I also love potato soup, and have a recipe for light, 1 serving. If you want it, let me know. Awww, your grandma is smiling down at you and Jhanai, Marti. Thank you for the kind words about Neal.

Robin - oh dear, I hope the weather cooperates with you for your trip. You'll have fun anyway, though. Step Away From the Fudge, lol. That would be very bothersome to me, too. You could do what I used to do - use aversion therapy. Picture roaches crawling over, under and throughout the fudge. Ewww! Doesn't sound so yummy now, does it, lol.

Jules - I own every Sue Grafton book written, lol, and my Mary is hooked on them, too, now. She's up to J, I think. When Neal and I plan a trip to DC, you'll have to give us some insider tips. He's been there before, but just did the well-known places.

Angelia - where oh where are you, friend? YOU ARE MISSED!!!!

Hello to anyone else reading this.

Well ladies, my goal for the day is to give myself a pedicure. The weather has been rainy, and not all that warm, so I've slacked off on my feet. :o We're supposed to have temps in the 90s soon, and I'm going to break out the sandals.

Also, I'm going to be pricing treadmills soon. Probably tomorrow, because I have to go to town then anyway. Although I don't really like the idea of putting one in the bedroom, I'm going to put my health above that. And I have a big TV in there, which is a good thing.

Have a good day, Jaded Ones!

Hello everyone...just getting started and reading previous posts...figured I would just jump in and learn as I go.

I work from home so I am always on the computer. I do tech support for a computer software company so I have to be infront of it all day.

I have been over weight for WAY to long and my motivation came as sort of a suprise to me anyway...I divorced over 7 years ago and started raising my boys alone..at the ages of 3 and 6 months. I gained so much weight eating fast food and feeling sorry for myself. I ws actually not all that worried about the weight because it was going to keep my from having to deal with dating...I was hiding behind it. Then I moved to a very small town...got involved with the church and met David. David and I have been dancing around each other for almost 6 years...if I am interested in dating he is not and then when he is I am not. Last week he called and ask me to get a babysitter..I looked completely stressed at church and he could tell I needed a night out. After dinner at his house he handed me a mechanics jump suit....not knowing what on earth for....he said get out of your clothes and into the suit....well anything that calls for me getting out of my clothes is JUST NOT PRETTY...so I hesitated and then he ask me "do you trust me?" so out of the clothes and into the monkey suit I went....he handed me a flash light and a can of bug spray...he sprayed my feet the only skin showing was through my sandals...so imagine if you will I looked pretty silly...flippy sandals and a monkey suit....we start walking and talking and soon were across the highway at his friends house (who is gone to visit his daughter) we walk around the end of the house and that's when I see the candles, the cooler and the HOT TUB....he tells me I can go in in the suit or all natural...well natural is not pretty with 100 + pounds to lose....so I hesitate..he said I love you just the way you are...I melt..peel out of the suit and into the water for the best two and a half hours of wine and water that I have had in my life. We talked alot..even about my weight and it was incredible....he thinks I will get thin and healthy and guys will be crawling all over me, but I told him it will always mean more to me that he loves me now not just when I am thin....I started walking again after that night and now I am determined to lose this weight...and show him he was wrong...I don't want to be with anyone but him, but I have said so many times I am trying to lose it...I didn't say that this time...I am going to show him.

Sorry to be long winded...feels pretty good to finally write that down somewhere!!

You guys are so motivating....it's nice to have a place to talk!

Jane 05-22-2006 12:21 PM

Alex - so glad to see that you made it. I loved your story about David accepting you no matter what your weight. Thanks for sharing that. You seem to be in a positive place with weight loss, and may want to jump in at the Pointer Sistas thread here, too. We award ourselves with up to 4 points (hence the name) a day, and assign them for wherever we feel the greatest personal need. Anyway, I'm happy you're here.

jules1216 05-22-2006 12:40 PM

Welcome Alex!! Just jumping in is the best here--you'll get the hang of it in no time. You'll have to go up in the general chatter and in the lighten up threads with jokes and funny stories--there is one about living in TX--I printed off for my co-worker/friend while she is off on medical--she's originally from TX and a huge Cowboy fan.

Jane--I didn't read Sue Grafton until you mentioned her in the Book Thread--now I really like her--have you read any of the "Home repair is Homicide" books by Sarah Graves yet?

Hi to everyone else--stopping in real quick at lunch!!

Marti 05-22-2006 01:07 PM

Morning everyone...

I'm feeling pretty crappy this morning. I don't know why but I just feel "ugh". Must snap out of it!!

Robin--Hope the weather clears up for your trip. Even if it's just to a light sprinkle! As Jane mentioned, you'll have lots of fun no matter what.

Jules--I know how you would feel about going from a 4day a week job to a 5day a week. I am a former Sony worker...we worked 4 days on and had 4 days off. We worked 12hrs...but to me it was worth the 4days off. Now...I'm the 5day a weeker and only 2days off! (anyone feeling sorry for me yet?? :D ) And my DH, he also worked for Sony....now he's an Engineer for the RR and he's on call.

Jane--I think my eyes are playing tricks on me!! I had to keep rereading your last sentence....I thought you were talking about putting a treadmill in your "BATHROOM"! I thought "wow..that's one HUGE bathroom!:dizzy:

Alex--What a romantic guy that David is!! I just know you'll do great on your weightloss!! We're all here for encouragement and support. And as Jane mentioned...we have that challenge thread, feel free to join us on that!

Hello to everyone else out there!! I need to post w/the pointer challenge and then maybe eat something that will make me feel better.

I will check in possible before I leave for work or if not....definately afterwards.

Hugs to all!

Marti 05-22-2006 01:08 PM

Forgot.....

Yes Jane: Please post the single serving of potato soup!! :D

Cafe Ole 05-22-2006 01:25 PM

Hi All!

Oh yes I am sure we will have a blast no matter what on the trip.

Jules... Surely the Dr can help you out if you are miserable. I know I would have preferred it done but mine wouldn't saying I was too young. Like it matters -- I am DONE having kids, I am out of baby jail and I like it :D

Jane...LOL I am telling myself that the fudge is just better tasting e-lax I hope that works! I have been really good lately. If I want to smash the diet, I want it to be something better than fudge :)

Alex... cool job! I am on the comp all day too -- I am a systems analyst for a big university. Yes I could name it but if they find me well you know LOL. That man sounds like a keeper! ;)

Good news/Bad news: Good: I lost another pound! :carrot:
Bad: Well I am bummed -- I lost my favorite bracelet while out running errands at lunch. It was made for me out in WY. :( I tried to retrace all my steps and I fear someone found it and is liking it now. :sorry: :stress:

Ok gotta skip out for a few, I am being paged.

Michelle 05-22-2006 03:09 PM

Hi Everyone ~ I've also been having one of those kinda down days and I hope it clears up soon!:(

Sue I'm cooking a roast and the fixins tonight for dinner. You will love Mrs. Dash!;)

Marti I think it's great if you can make time for yourself and start with WATP. I need to get myself back into the routine if WATP again too. I hope you're feeling better now.

Robin Last night, we had heavy winds, lightning and thunder storms. Now today there has been several trees down and people not having internet service. I'm glad I wasn't affected by it!:D

Jules I hope you can talk with your doctor and see about the hysterectomy. By explaining all of your problems during TOM, they should understand and do something.

Jane Have fun rewarding yourself with your pedicure! That is something I have never gotten done, but I think I might soon.;)

Alex :welcome2: :welcome3: :welcome: to the group! All the ladies here are so nice and understanding! I loved reading your story! It was a wonderful story and you also have a wonderful man there!

Hello JL's and Welcome Alex. Just a drive by posting here. I am waiting for a call from my dentist. Dreaded dial-up.

I lost another pound......little by little I guess.

Be back later.

da fat n da furious 05-22-2006 05:27 PM

Hey all,,,been a bit busy,,,heck been seriously busy. If Im not working full time Im in the basement or outside in the yardd. So much work that we seemed to have neglected and it all came at once. Plus Monte has hired a guy on to help with the route,,,which I am so thankful for. Ive been busy trying to settle all the paperwork for that. AND I have taken my refresher classes...just have powerpoint to do and Im done! Which means I will be hunting for a new job,,,one with benefits.

Jane, how long will Neil have his eye like that? Ive heard that it takes along time for the blood to leave the eyeball...
Marti,,,hope you are feeling better today....
Katie,,,its been alot of years since Ive had an infection,,,hope you are feeling better...drink that water and cranberry juice!
Sue, lets hope your DD's surgery is done after your move in. The only thing i found bad about that surgery was after 2 weeks I was going stir crazy. Stock up on movies, books and crafts.
Michelle,,,how ya feeling today?
Robin, saw the backpack and love it,,,hope you find it. I want just like it too.
Alex,,,welcome,,, I think your guy there is a keeper...how sweet in a sneaky way...gets you out of your clothes and away from retrieving them back if you backed out of the hot tub thing....lol

Well need to go and do some more work...*sigh I can't wait to be able to do nothing for awhile.

FrouFrou 05-22-2006 06:14 PM

Back again for a few minutes...

JANE...sorry about Neal's eye, OUCH! Hope he is doing fine. Did you guys get your porch/yard done? You are right...I too feel better when I exercise, even if I don't want to. Some days I get up and dread it. But after getting up and out there I feel so much better, so energized.

ALEX...what an awesome story and what a romantic David is. Thank you for sharing with us. And looking forward to getting to know you.

MARTI...are you enjoying your new hours? How is Jhanai doing at her job? I think that is a cool job for an 11 year old. Did you get started on the WATP? I think you will like them. They are a good work out and go by pretty fast.

JULES...I've not heard of Natural Highs but I can attest to feeling better when I take my vitamins, that and getting some type of exercise in. I do take a free day a week from exercise and it feels weird doing it. At the same time it feels good to have a break. Trying to get it in my head though that this is a lifetime thing and not just a temporary fix.

ROBIN...sending good weather vibes your way. :goodvibes: You guys are going to have an awesome time...can I come, lol! I need a get away! Hope you find your bracelet. :crossed: I almost lost my charm bracelet a few years ago. We were leaving the motel room in Norman and I had set it on the bed for dD to put it on for me and forgot I put it on the bed and we left. I got about a mile from the motel and noticed I didn't have it on and freaked! Went back to the front desk and no one had turned it in and asked if I could go look, it wasn't there and the maids either couldn't understand english or were pretending they couldn't. Anyway, one of the maids in the laundry room had it, thank goodness. It's not that it cost so much, but rather the sentimental value of it. I would have been devasted had I lost it so I can imagine what you are going through.

SUE...WTG on the pound! WOOHOO! :carrot: :bravo: Do you not have a cell phone? At first I didn't really want one but we mainly use the phone for the computer so now I give out my cell #. I actually don't mind the dial-up.

MICHELLE...hope you are having a good day! By the way, love your newest avatar. I am always looking for the "right" one for me but haven't found it yet. May just put a pic of me one of these days.

ANGELIA...your basement is sounding nice, and I bet it looks nice too!

Hi to everyone else

Going to go check out a couple of threads before the timer goes off for the chicken. I am fixing chicken enchilada's for dinner tonight, Josh's favorite meal in the world, well, next to pizza! Had a few minutes so thought I would come here till then.

Have a good one ladies!

Jane 05-22-2006 09:12 PM

I'm back.....

Angie - YAY! :cp: There you are! Neal's eye still looks awful. It's all I can do to look straight at him w/o making a face. Poor baby! Now that your powerpoint class is done, what kind of job will you apply for?

Sue - yay for the 1 pound down. Keep at it, girlfriend!

Cristi - before I forget, I got your recipe chain letter tree today. Just to let you know, I don't do those, but thanks anyway. The letter said for me to mail it back if I didn't want to pass it on, but I hope you'll understand if I don't. Have a good dinner with Josh.

Michelle - I didn't have a professional pedi, just did it myself, but it still makes me feel good.

The guy who's demolishing the old house called today and asked if he could start tomorrow instead of Wednesday, so tomorrow it is. Neal and Katie both are going to get emotional, I know. And that will make me cry. Yikes, I'll be glad when this is over!

Have a good evening,
