  • Morning gals-I'm teaching a bead stringing class this morning. I usually only teach beadweaving classes, but the owner of the shop is on vacation and these ladies really wanted a class today, so I got suckered into saying I'd do it. I can't imagine what to teach them. You string beads! I guess I teach them how to add a clasp and crimp. So easy compared to teaching a pattern. Maybe I'll have time to make something too!

meowee-I am jealous of your nice weather. We are stuck in a circling pattern of rain that isn't leaving in the foreseeable future.

Cheryl-I've never tried the whole WW thing. I just figured I'm not great at doing weekly meetings, and really dont have the cash to afford it. I say find what works for you and you are comfortable with and go at it!

Well, hope you all have a terrific Saturday!
  • Another nice day. Hope they keep on coming this way for a long while yet.

I'd try to send it your way, Brandy, but I don't think I'm strong enough to get the Gulf Stream to suddenly start flowing in reverse. I bet you'll find lots of things to teach them. If it was as easy as sticking a bead on a piece of wire or thread, it would never hold your attention for long. Have fun.

I did a little bit of piecing this morning and then decided I needed to make my weekly big pot of "Sanity Soup". See you all soon, gang. Keep on moving and shaking and doing the right stuff.
  • Morning Ladies and Happy Mother's Day!

Brandy...How did your class go? I've never done beading, but I'm thinking about adding some beading to some of my quilt projects. I'm getting ready to start a quilted jacket and I might add beads to make the flowers pop out!

Linda...How are the poncho's coming along?

Well ladies, I'm finally out of my funk and back to my old self...Yesterday, dh and I went to Fargo for my sewing class, and I learned sooooo much! I love my machine more and more each day!!! This machine sews sideways!! So I can sew a strap on a bag and not have to stuggle with moving the bag and dealing with bulk. I'm just amazed with everything this machine can do and I can't wait to start making clothes for my grandkids!

Had lunch at a buffet place and I did good. We had lunch early afternoon, so I skipped eating dinner since I wasn't hungry. Hubby is my slave today, he has to cook all meals and do the dishes and I can do what ever I want today. Going up and turn some smooth jazz on the CD player and sew the backing to my daughter and son's quilt. I want to be able to leave the quilts with the quilter when I go to town on Wednesday.

Yesterday, I bought two new patterns at the quilt shop. One is a tote bag/backpack combo and the other is a beautiful quilted jacket pattern. I'm going to make a jacket for myself using all the quilting/sewing theme fabric I've been saving for years and I'm also going to make one for my Mom. The backpack I'm going to make for myself as well. It has a pocket to hold a 20 oz water bottle. I want something to hold my water and my walkman when I go walking, and this light weight backpack will do the trick I think.

Have a great day my friends.

    Cheryl
  • Happy Mother's Day . . .

Another beautiful sunny and mild (but not hot) day in Atlantic Canada. Hope they just keep on coming and coming.

The backpack sounds like a great idea, Cheryl. Must admit I like fabric bags/purses of any kind because they are generally so much lighter than the leather kind.

Wow, I didn't even know they had patterns for such things, or for quilted clothing for that matter. I tend to just make up my own based on any basic clothing style-pattern. Guess I tend to sew/knit/crochet/etcetera the same way I cook. I've never actually 'followed' a recipe either. I do my quilts that way too. I find the most enjoyment from the 'design' phase of the process. The piecing, quilting, and finishing phases seem to drag a bit. Probably why I've got notebooks stuffed full of designs that will never actually come to fruition.

The ponchos are finished, but I'm rethinking the matching purses because my poncho/jacket 'thingie' is also finished (and I've worn it and had bunches of compliments on it) It will definitely not be getting a purse. The shape of the garment does not like having a strap over its shoulder, nor does it like the seat belt in the car either. The sleeveless vest for my SIL is almost done and it will get a purse.

I'm looking for a simple to use, not too expensive digital camera. When I find one and figure it out, I'll hopefully post some pictures. Any suggestions?

Well gotta go pick up the stuff the cats just knocked over. Nothing serious, just a little messy. Amazing how innocent they can look when they know they've done a 'baddy'.

Have a great day, ladies. Keep moving and shaking and heading in the proper downward direction. See you all soon.
  • Hey gang . . . it's Monday . . . time to come out and play. I miss you.
  • Come out come out wherever you are!!!

Hi gals-I had a nice weekend, but I ate too much. I'm doing a binge free challenge for the week so wish me luck. I actually made some bracelets and earrings over the weekend to give to my sis and SIL. It was very simple stringing, but it was nice to get something done.

My class was a disastor! They have a new girl helping while the owner is away. She jumped in and started helping the ladies in my class whenever I was busy with a different student. Well, I never thought much about it, she was trying to help me out, I really haven't seen much of her work though. Needless to say, all the crimps she "helped" the ladies do broke, and I ended up fixing 4 bracelets apologizing my a** off. I was and still am mortified. I never even thought to check her work, so completely my fault. Anyways, the ladies were real nice about everything so it could have been worse, but definetly the worst class I've ever taught.

Its still raining here. I am so tired of rain. I want to bike outside so much, but even when it quits for a short time, the roadsides are all flooded and passing cars would drown me.

I gotta run and get my house cleaned before my first students show up. I hope you are all doing well. It sounds like your projects are moving along well. Keep it up. I can't wait for pics. I hope you get your camera soon!!!
  • Hi,

Brandy...So sorry to hear your bead class was a disaster with the very helpful/not so helpful assistant. I've had that experience in some quilting classes I have taken, were some students think they know more than the teacher.

Linda...I bought my foster daughter a digital camera for christmas. I bought it for under $50 at Radio Shack. She is able to hook it up to the computer and down load her pictures.

It was cool here today, but suppose to warm back up by the weekend. Went to South Dakota with my hubby to buy a car part. Stopped at a quilt shop and I found some beautiful bright Orange Batik that I need for a wallhanging I'm going to make in Feb. Also bought a couple of patterns. One is a Backpack Tote and the other is a wearable Sweatshirt Jacket. The backpack measures:14 wide by 19 1/2 tall, 5 1/2 deep. The jacket is made over a sweatshirt as the lining.

Linda...If you are interested in the patterns, I can PM you with the web address and phone #.

I'm home tomorrow...YEAH!!!!...Got the fabric for my little kids washed, so I can start cutting out the pieces and getting them placed on the quilt. I also need to sew the backing together for my daughters quilt. Going to drop off two quilts to the quilters on Wednesday.

Have a great night girls and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

    Cheryl
  • Hi! I'm a newbie here on this group.I'm an owner of a scented biz so I thought I'd come aboard. I'm 36,will be divorced June 12th,I have 3 boys,2 pug dogs & I live in Ohio. I need to lose 46 pounds to be where I need to be to look good.Once I get there I'd like to get another 15 off & be where I was prior to babies. Looking forward to meeting everyone.
  • Good Morning all you crafty little things . . . Another sunny morning . . . but they are predicting a few days of rain starting this afternoon and we certainly need it . . . parts of the province are already having some serious forest-fire problems.

Brandy . . . I know you'd love to send me some of your rain. I certainly know how depressing the constant rain can get. Sorry to hear about the class. It's so hard to tell somebody like that to stop trying to be so helpful when you know they mean well. Hopefully she finally got the hint.

Cheryl . . . For some reason I never thought of Radio Shack . . . I'll have to take a look. Sounds like it might be just about my speed (although it would probably be twice as much up here). Thanks for the suggestion. Does your quilt shop have a web-site? Maybe you could post a link?

Angie . . . Welcome to the group. What is your 'scented business'? I'm thinking candles and stuff? Good luck with your journey. Hope we'll be seing less of you more often.

Have a great day moving and shaking your way on the great downward road, gang. See you soon.
  • Meagan!

Scented candles or lotions (or am I completely off track?) It sure sounds like you have your hands full right now. Hope we can offer some support when needed. What kind of diet/exercise program are you doing? I'm trying to maintain right now. I had a bad week last week so this week I'm buckling down. I'm scared I'll undo all the progress I made so I'm being extra cautious with any gains and trying to get them gone ASAP!

Cheryl-I love orange-what kind of wallhanging are you going to make it for. I cant believe you have plans as far in advance as feb. I'm lucky if I know what I'm doing tomorrow .

Wake up Linda! We all came to play!
  • Sorry Linda it took me along time to finish my post and I overlapped you! Good morning.

  • Angie...Look forward to getting to know you. MMMmmmm I'm thinking scented candles, which I love.

Linda...You might also check ebay for a digital camera. I don't have the web address for the shop I just visited in SD. First time I was there, but check out fabshophop.com. Every two to three months they have a shop hop where you hop form one quilt shop to another looking for a bunny to win prizes. I enjoy visiting the different shops from around the country and Canada. They all carry different fabrics, patterns, books and gifts.

Brandy...I hate to say it, but I'm a neat nick/perfectionist. I sew/quilt by a to do list of projects I want/or need to get done. I mark them off as I finish them.
I let you know tonight the name of the wallhanging, but I have all fo the fabric bought for it. It will be done in Batiks, and I can't wait for Feb to get here.

Rosey...Congrats on loosing 18 pounds so far. Your doing better than me. I've lost 17 lbs, but have hit a wall. I decided this week to lower my points and see if that helps. I'm only going to attend the WW meetings till the end of July, then do it on my own and with my buddys here.

Got the backing sewed together for my daughter's quilt. Tomorrow I'm going to buy the batting for the quilts and drop them off at the quilt shop for the quilter to pick up. I also ironed the fabric's for the baby quilt I'm starting for my new grandchild and also the fabric's for the kid's body parts. Tomorrow I will iron wonder under on the fabric's and draw out the body parts and get them cut out so I can place them on the quilt and press them down so I can start to applique. OH Fun!!!

  • Good Morning, gang . . . I'm looking at a very, very busy day today so this will just be a short little 'Hello'.

This was my official wwi morning and unfortunately my body is working at maintenance even though my mind is trying hard for weight-loss. Hopefully things will be better next week. In the meantime, I'll just keep plodding along in the believe that doing the right stuff will bring the rewards my way eventually.

The good news is that I got a camera yesterday . . . an HP E327 . . . now all I have to do is learn how to use it. I'm not good with mechanical devices, so give me a few days (weeks) to see if I can figure it out.

See you soon, gang. Hopefully I'll get back later on today. In the meantime, keep it moving and shaking.
  • Well I finally got to move my ticker. Weighed this morning with no clothes and my scale said 337.6. With clothes I was 340, went to WW and their scales said 343.2...up .9 pounds from last week. Really put me in a foul mood, but then I decided to just take what my scale said and forget WW.

Linda...Congrats on maintaining and on the new digital camera.

Brandy...The wallhanging I'm going to make is call "Summer Salsa", it's a varriation of the Lonestar pattern. I was going to post a picture of it , but I can't get it to work. Will do it later after my hubby get home and can help me.
