STOP THE INSANITY! Weekly Challenge #10

The object of this thread is to STOP THE INSANITY! of doing the same thing week in and week out to lose weight, expecting different results, and not getting them! We invite you to challenge yourself to establish a new weight loss ACTION each week and repeat it for 7 days straight. Choose whatever inspires you and will make a difference in your weight loss goal - a certain amount of water intake each day, no sweets, a certain amount or kind of exercise a day, etc.

If you don't master the action - take it on another week. Once you have mastered the action, continue that challenge but if you are not losing weight (or inches) STOP THE INSANITY! and up the anty on that goal or take on another. We will weigh in and declare our challenge(s) for the week each Monday. I will award kudos for each day you report success and at the end of the week for total pounds lost.

We will support each other by staying focussed on our successes and/or challenges of the day and week and keep our personal stories to a minimum. Our next goal date is April 2 - Daylight Savings Time - Let's see how much weight we can lose in 6 weeks!

mscat-
All that we have is right now. Yesterday is gone, Tomorrow is not promised and Someday is not a day of the week.

Sounds great to Me!

This is my first time ever posting. I have been on weightwatchers for almost a year, lost 19 lbs. and have recently gained back 12 of it, feel horrible anyway, my challenge is not to eat after 7:00. Thanks

Sushi Penguin 03-06-2006 07:17 PM

Hello Ladies :)

First of all, :welcome: to Tammy. Good luck with your challenge. :) A few of us here, myself included, are doing "no food after 7 pm" as well. :)

Donna & Mscat, it's my turn to encourage YOU! Things will get better, they always do! :grouphug: :goodvibes:

Carla & Bonnie, I hope to see you both here this week... ;) Especially because I'll be a more frequent guest over the next 2 weeks. My computer access is still bad, but a lot better than the past 2 weeks.

I'm feeling much better and doing slightly better. Last week was a disaster, the only part of my challenge which I accomplished was walking with the dog... which is't much of a challenge for me anyway, given that I love both long walks and long walks with the dog!

Today I'm one pound down, to 133 lbs, so hopefully my overdue Valentine's goals is about to knock on the door! :crossed:
I'm setting another mini goal, to be at 129-130 by March 21st, which is when I'm leaving for my trip. And hopefully I'll be able to reach 120 by mid-May despite the trip! :crossed:

Here are my challenges for this week and next:
- arrive at and maintain a consistent bed routine (getting up at 7-7:30 am, in bed by 10:30 pm)
- drink at least 1.5 litres of water daily
- no food after 7 pm
- stability ball exercises and midriff exercises (different crunches) at least 5 times/week
- long walks with the dog 2-3 times/week

Monday was a no-go, unfortunately. I went running too late, didn't have enough time to eat before yoga, came home starving and had to have a 9 pm dinner. My sleep schedule isn't great, but much much much better than last week. Today I was up at 8:15, which is a big improvement from 10-11 am. It's tough to be up early when you're not working and don't really need to be up!

That's it for today. Take care everyone and good luck with your challenges. :)

dgpebbles 03-06-2006 09:06 PM

Hello everyone...Well I hope this week goes better than last week....I'm off to a bad start for march..only at 105 min of exercise but I stll have to do todays...I did great eating till yesterady...I went out to eat and had a salad with breaded chicken strips cut up in it and the dressing they put on it was bad(honey mustard)..My daughter got a ice cream cake slice and I had to help her eat it...it just looked to good...I know today I'm retaining fluid....I am back on track today though...

Evenin' er Mornin'

Hi Ladies -

We seem to be down in the doldrums  Let's rejuvenate this thread :carrot: My goals this week are to eat sensibly everyday and stay under points on WW.

:welcome3: Tammy! I admire your goal - I hope you inspire me to go after that one in the near future. Let us know how you are doing each day.

Sushi - congrats on your lb down  and :thanks: for the uplift. Many of us needed to hear that. I thinking about giving up this thread until I read your inspirational messages. You are such a consistent force in my life

Bonnie - We miss you but really appreciate that you are willing to stop in and check on us. Continung to work on your calories is a great challenge in itself. We will :cheer: you on whenever you stop in and hope that it is more often than not. Your sunny presence makes a difference in our lives.

and Pebbles :thanks: for your cheerleading and support  You are an awesome contribution to this thread. When I am remiss in hosting, it relieves me to see your posts reassuring me that you will step in and care for others.

Have a great Thursday ladies!

dgpebbles 03-10-2006 10:54 PM

Well I finally did it...I joined a gym this week and I'm been 3 times already...I love going there...everyone is very friendly...Also being in a room full of people working out also helps me to stay motivated...I want to be just as good on them machines as they are...I don't think I'm going to have much of a loss this week...I've been working out on the weight machines and I'm a little sore...so I know I'm building muscle....I'll just have to wait and see...

How is everyone doing?.

Bonnie are you still hanging in there?

Sushi Penguin 03-11-2006 01:16 AM

Thank you for your wonderful words Mscat. :)

I hope you're holding on there ladies! :grouphug:

I've been busy organising my trip and doing lots of other tiny, time-consuming but not necessary thing. So nothing good to report. I don't think I've met any of my goals even once... well, I did take the dog for a walk and I probably did get lots of water in once or twice. But overall, this week is a disaster yet again. And that pound down is history...
I shall see how things go from here.

dgpebbles 03-11-2006 12:05 PM

Sushi - sorry to hear your having another bad week...sound like you've been really busy...What kind of trip are you taking? Is it for work or pleasure?

Well no work out today for me..I woke up with a headache and I have to work today from 2-10 but I will go to the gym tomorrow..

Have a great weekend !

mscat816 03-12-2006 12:21 AM

Night Ladies

This has not been my best day ladies but after reading your posts, I feel inspired about starting anew tomorrow. My weight is back up and I look like a fat :ink:

Bonnie :thanks: for your support as always! I wish I had that hollow feeling in my stomach to get used to :) Good luck on Sunday.

pebbles :carrot: Good for you! I am sure the visits to the gym will make a big difference.

Sushi - hang in there  - hey the dog walk counts for something!

Have a great Sunday and I hope we all have a good weigh in day on Monday!

carla49 03-12-2006 12:45 AM

Hi all, I'm out of town, not weighing in or behaving, but lurking with the best of them. Tomorrow am is supposed to be a fitness class

I haven't forgotten you and am keeping in silent touch. Back home late on the 20th, when I hope to feel inspired enought to get back on track. Don't forget or discount me!

dgpebbles 03-12-2006 01:32 PM

I got up and went to the gym first thing this morning...I am improving on my cardio workouts and lifting weights...I am doing the sets of 10 and only doing what I can lift easy...I'm not going to push too hard...I don't want to end up injuring myself...

Bonnie - Glad to hear you did your this last week and that your hanging in there..

Carla - I know you can do it...You'll be back on track before you even know it.

mscat816 03-12-2006 11:28 PM

Evenin' Ladies

This has been a much better day - I started back on my BP med and relieved a lot of excess water and bloating. Did a 2 mile WATP and ate sensibly. I am determined to get some type of workout everyday this week, either WATP, treadmill or stair climber.

I am dreading weigh-in tomorrow because I have gained so much weight since my trip to Houston but we will go with it and start anew.

carla - you will never be forgotten  We are not letting you go! Hang in there with us - we are looking for your return on the 20th!

Bonnie - the BB buddies have returned :grouphug:

Pebbles - you go girl :strong: with those weights. I can barely hold my 1lb cans when I do WATP. You inspire us all!

:goodluck: tomorrow ladies - Let's weigh in and take on a new lease on life!

mscat816 03-14-2006 12:35 AM

Monday Success!

Hi Ladies - its sooo late and I have had a busy day. Started the a.m. with a STI moment. Instead of laying in bed I got up at 6:30 a.m. and did a 1 mile WATP :strong: Then I ate decently and got in 48 oz of water
Weight - sadly I am changing my ticker to reflect the weight I had gained from my vacation. Up a whole 6lbs! :yikes: But (BB Butt Buddies) we will dig in and start anew. Tuesday - intend to get in another 15 minute (at least) workout before the day is done.

where are our weigh-in buddies?

mscat816 03-14-2006 12:40 AM

Maintaining the Current Thread!

Since our group is rather small right now - I am going to maintain the same thread till the end of this challenge (April 2) hoping that it won't become too unweildy. Let me know here or by pm if anyone has strong thoughts about this

carla49 03-14-2006 12:59 AM

Just a quick hello from rainy San Fran. I won't be weighing in until next Tuesday when I'm home, but I have a feeling I'll be joining Mscat on the walk of shame... If I'm up too far I may decide it's time for WW again - on-line this time. Meanwhile I'm eating rather too much, although not too bad on chocolate or junk food. But the wine! Ah, the wine... glorious wine... (Yes, today was Sonoma area wine tasting, and a grand time was had by all.) No challenges at the moment, apart from staying warm enough and surviving an uncomfortable accommodation situation. I'll be so glad to get home, and would leave sooner if it were possible to change my flight. Instead I'm escaping Wed to Fri to Gilroy, shopping outlet centre of the universe. (Slight exaggeration.)

Mscat, good idea to maintain the same thread. Bye!

Sushi Penguin 03-14-2006 05:50 AM

Hi Ladies :) :grouphug:

For some reason, I'm not very motivated to challenge myself these days! Fortunately, I'm not motivated to be bad either! So while I haven't been 100% good, I also haven't been bad.

Yesterday (Monday), I got up early and went to bed early, didn't have any food after 7 pm, drank lots of water, and took the dog for a walk, so I'm counting it as a successful day.
Today was supposed to be good as well, but I only just had dinner and it's 9 pm!

I've been busy prepping for my trip - planning routes, researching attractions and national parks. We're leaving in a week's time. I'll miss you... and the internet!

dgpebbles 03-14-2006 08:06 AM

Well last week is better than I thought it would be...I'm down 1.5lbs for the week..I guess the gym is paying off...went yesterday and did 15 mins on elliptical and 70 mins of weights...

mscat / Carla - hang in there ladies...you can do it ..vacations can really hurt a diet..It's hard to eat healthy when your out and about along with getting in exercise...

mscat -great job on getting up early to workout...it really makes you feel good all day...I don't mind keep the same thread.

mscat816 03-14-2006 02:55 PM

Hi Ladies  did another 1 minute WATP this a.m. :carrot: That is 2 down this week - 5 more to go.

carla :val1: be my WW buddy :^: I am on on-line member and my money has been going to waste! I will pledge to tally points every day too. Starting today.

Sushi :cp: for your Monday. We will miss you too

Pebbles :cb: and :bravo: for your 1.5 lbs down and a big :strong: for that workout yesterday! Thanks for the encouragement.

Bonnie :strong: you are almost back in onderland - you can do it!

Wednesday Evening Report

I am on a roll  This is day 3 for my workouts. Hmmmmm - do we see a 21 day challenge in my future? I did a mile and 1/2 this a.m. at 6:30 :carrot: :cb: :carrot: It felt good. I am also using weights!

I was concerned how I would keep up with my workouts when DH and I go to Chicago for a training this weekend. My DD is letting me take her portable DVD player so I can WATP in my hotel room since there are no fitness amenities.

I hope everyone is doing well. I am missing your posts. Have a great day on Thursday. I probably will not be able to post throughout the weekend. Last time our internet connection to our laptop was not working. This time we are in training from 9:00 a.m. till 12:00 a.m. So I am relying on each of you to keep the thread alive.

love,

mscat816 03-17-2006 01:02 AM

Night Ladies

I hope everyone is doing well out there - it is lonely on the thread tonight. Just wanted to report that Thursday was great - I decided to change my workout routine and get on the stair climber instead of doing WATP. I forgot how hard the stair climber is! :fr:

I was perspiring, exhausted and wanted to quit at 10 minutes. But I had an STI moment :strong: and hung in there for the full 15!

I will try to check in the a.m. before I take off. Otherwise have a great weekend.

Sushi Penguin 03-17-2006 07:52 AM

Hello ladies :grouphug:

I decided to take things easier and not stress out so much about not sticking with my challenge. It's counter-productive.

I'm doing good with my water and I've been up early every day but Tuesday. I haven't been doing the stability ball exercises, but I did make a conscious effort to go running twice this week - which counts as exercise and which I didn't quite "have to" do since I blew my 21-day running challenge not too long ago and I'm not starting a new one until after my camping trip.

I had an STI moment while running this morning.... I ran one lenght of the road at a faster pace than usual and improved my time yet again (and for the second time this week - from 8 min 1 sec to 7 min 52 sec on Monday and now 7 min 41 sec today). That came at a price - by the time I had ran 10 minutes and came up a hill, I just couldn't anymore and had to stop. But instead of stopping for the day, I walked for a few minutes and then ran for 15.5 more minutes! :) :cheer:

So I'm fairly happy with this week so far, except for Wednesday when I slept in till 10 am or so. That being said, it's nearly 12 am, so I better go to bed! :)

carla49 03-17-2006 12:40 PM

Hello all. Nothing good to report, so I'll make this short. There's just 3 more days of this trip to get thru, and then I'll be home and plan on getting back on track big time. I think I'll be having some serious fear of scale on Tues morning - I feel more jiggly somehow, which probably isn't a good sign - but the bullet WILL be bitten, I swear.

Anyway, I'm still around, just keeping a low profile. Back home the wine tap will be turned off, and the whine tap too... Either back on the 1200 cal diet the doc gave me, or else WW again. I've never tried the Core plan, and it really should be both workable and affective. Mscat, I think you said you might be interested in trying it too?

Gotta go, catch y'all later.

dgpebbles 03-17-2006 11:21 PM

Hello ladies...well today made 6 days straight that I've gone to the gym..It's so addicting..I look forward to going everyday...

Sushi - great job on sticking to that running..

mscat - 15 min on the stair climber is great..I can only manage 5 mins and my legs are burning..

Carla- I know you'll be glad to get back home...trips are fun but there no place like home...I know you'll hope right back on board..

Sushi Penguin 03-19-2006 11:27 PM

Hi Ladies,

Just a quick note, I'm leaving tomorrow and there is still tons of work to do!
Take care :grouphug: I'll be thinking about you all, and I'll try to drop by if I get on the internet at some point. If not, see you around April 15th.

I haven't been good with my weekly challenge (again!), and I know the scale and I won't be on good terms tomorrow morning... But I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the trip - camping, hiking and so on, so lots of activity, so hopefully less of me will be coming back!

During my trip, my challenge will be to drink at least 1.5 litres of water each day and something else, but I can't remember what... Hopefully I'll remember by tomorrow! :)

Take care :)

dgpebbles 03-20-2006 08:03 AM

Sushi - Have a great trip...you deserve it..I know you'll do great while your gone.

Well todays weigh-in is awesome....I'm down 2.4lbs....so I guess the gym is paying off...all that cardio and weight lifting but I can't tell anything in clothes fitting but I know it's coming from somewhere...Maybe It's coming off evenly throughout my body...Can't wait to drop one more size in pants again but I think that will be a little while yet...I did the elliptical yesterday for 65 mins while I watched grey's anatomy at the gym and today my legs are a little stiff

Have a wonderfull day..

mscat816 03-20-2006 03:04 PM

Monday Greetings!

Hi Ladies - I am so happy to be back and see all my B-B friends popping in. DH and I had a great time in Chicago - the training was intense but we accomplished a lot and all the people were extraordinary! I am proud to say I did WATP everyday I was away even though we were in class from 9:00 a.m. to 12 midnight! :strong: I have completed 7 days straight (8) counting this a.m. of 15 minutes (minimum) of exercise :cb:

Carla - hope you are having a great time. Enjoy and we will be here to crack the whip when you get back:drill:

Bonnie - :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: for 3 days of activity goals - Onderland is around the corner!

Sushi :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: for 3 days of goals met and :goodluck: on your challenge while you are away.

Donna :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: for 6 days of goals met and :woo: :woo: for 2.4 lbs down! You are our champion for the week :bravo: :encore:

Have a great day!

dgpebbles 03-20-2006 08:59 PM

Bonnie-I'm 5'2" and I hope to get to around 140...lol if I can get there too and maintain

mscat-great job on keeping up your exercise everyday...

mscat816 03-21-2006 03:12 PM

Hi Ladies

Just a quick note to say "Hi" and I hope everyone is having a fantabulous week! I did not workout this a.m. but I am determined to get it in before the night is over. There is a 1 and 1/2 hour "Shield" on tonight and if necessary I will get a treadmill workout while that is on.

The scale is moving again! :goodscale And in the right direction - down! :cb: After my weekend, I gained 2 more lbs and went up to 238  I was too 'shamed to change my ticker :tantrum: I dropped below 236 and believe it is the result of my consistent workouts. I am going for another 7 days (1 down so far) and I will look forward this time to Monday's weigh-in.

We may not be where we think we should be . . .
but at least we are making the journey.
