Kimberley - after the dinner we had tonight... I don't think it'll help with ANY weight loss attempts. All in the name of Josh's bday.. I'll go for a run/walk thing tomorrow. Work some of it off. I love that you take pics of your food, my family totally does that too, heh. Maintaining is decent after losing 4 pounds! 4 pounds alone is pretty impressive.

Jill - Good to hear about the job! Wow you guys pay lots for rent, eh? Thats the cost of a 2 bedroom overlooking the ocean in Vancouver, well close, I think we paid 1400 for that place. Josh and I now pay 575, yup thats right, we have a tiny 1 bedroom above ground basement suite. We are saving for a condo, it's hard to be able to afford stuff though. Our current neighbourhood wouldn't be high on our list, mostly because townhouses go for 1-2 million. I cannot imagine that! We hope to put enough down so that we have lower morgage payments. It's hard this growing up stuff!

So this digital scale stuff, is kinda fun! I mean, I hate knowing I weigh 258, thats pretty depressing, but I enjoy the rest of it! And I guess I never have to worry about getting a better scale and losing weight twice.. AGAIN. Also, an interesting thing, Josh was doing a little calf flexing, so I joined and was completely shocked to see I was pretty buff too! I better get to sleep, I have a big day of recoving from the little eating thing we did today. Goodnight!

Wow, our areas sound quite similar in housing prices. I know this $1200 2-bedroom was something we got on a special (normally $1500 a month), so we lucked out, as most places this size are a bit more. The townhouse my friend bought for just over $400k was about 25 miles away from me, so much farther from the city--it would be more expensive here in Alexandria since we are just across the river from DC :dizzy: This is exactly why we are NOT saving up for a condo--too dang expensive! Plus, I still want to move back to Va Beach eventually--just have to convince Jeff ;)

Well, I'm hoping to go into work earlier this morning. It's not even 6am right now, so I hope to be out the door by 6:30 and at work around 7. I tried driving home at about 4:30 yesterday evening, and traffic was AWFUL (though slightly better than Monday evening when I drove home at 5:30), so I'm hoping the earlier I go in, the earlier I get out

Hey ya ladies! Have to make this quick since I have a bit of a pile of stuff to do since I was out Monday and Tuesday.

I walked so much these past couple of day I think I almost lost my feet. I did my tour guide duty, ha. We really had a good time.

Aimee, if your buffing up than some of those lbs may be muscles. It can be misleading. SJP just had to get foot surgery from wearing MBs so much (I'm such a grandmother! heh heh)

Man, Jen, you're kicking butt. I don't think I'm even going to weigh myself this Friday. I don't want to see the results of my chocolate martini among other treats. I didn't go crazy eating, but I didn't try that hard to be healthy. At least it was just 3 days.

The new job sounds good, Jill. Good sign that they're already handing you stuff. They guy/gal ratio sounds better to me too. I knew you'd get back into the pattern of eating you want once the job change went through.

8 months doesn't sound that bad for finding a house, Sarah. But I'm sure when you're looking and excited 8 months feels like a very long time. Congrats.

More later.

Phew, I am so tired today, I don't know whats up with that. I don't normally go to bed so late, it was like 2am before I went to bed..

Jill - We faithfully put our money into RRSP's, which are like 401K's I believe, the money gives us more on our taxes, and they changed something in Canada, so now you can use that money, tax free, to pay for your downpayment on a house/condo. You have to pay the money back in a certain time period, I'm not too sure what it is. So not only are we saving for our retirement we are saving for a house as well.. I contribute WAY less than Josh, but I think every little bit counts. And I honestly don't notice that extra 100 bucks a month. My mom was pretty into saving for the future, I guess I caught that bug? heh

Marge - WB!! On that scale issue, all I can say is thank god I lost those 10 pounds! It would have been much more frightening! I am back on 100% plan, no more going off for Josh's bday... he can finish his cheesecake by himself!! lol. I'm glad to hear you had fun with your friend, and extremely pleased with all the walking! I think you should hop on the scale to see the "damage", I wonder if there will be any...

I better get going, gotta drink some water and prepare for our run! ttyl!

Aimee, we went to hear some live music and who should sit next to us but a couple from Ottawa. We had to wait a couple of hours for the show to start and they were great company. They were in their early 20s and he took her to NYC for a whirlwind birthday present (how sweet is that??). Made me think of you. :)

Jen415 03-29-2006 04:34 PM

Welcome back Marge!

It has been a wild day! My boss has kept me quite busy the last couple of days with extra things that need doing. He just left--thank goodness! I can't complain--he is a great boss that lets me know when I do a good job. I like that. Praise motivates me.

jillybean720 03-29-2006 06:17 PM

Jen--I think praise would motivate almost anyone! I wish my new boss would give me some feedback (positive OR negative!). She just gives me something to do, so I do it and send it back to her, and then I don't hear anything else about it :dizzy:

Aimee--yeah, I have a 401k also. I contribute 3% of my pay which doesn't sound like much, but it's almost $140 a month (well, from my last job--it will be more at this job, but still just 3%). I was also contributing 3% to a pension plan, but now that I don't work there, I don't get it, so I'm just going to take the money. I could roll it into my 401k or open an IRA myself, but I'd rather just take the little bit of cash and run for now

Marge--glad to hear you had a good time...PLUS got lots of exercise! ;)

Jen415 03-30-2006 09:34 AM

Morning ladies!

We went to the Chinese buffet last night...NOT a good idea. I had a lot of protein, but no veg and a little bit of sweet stuff. I've asked Alan if we can forego the Chinese buffet for awhile, at least until I get my act together. It is just way too tempting.

In spite of last night, I'm only up 1.5 lbs. So I am flushing that stuff right out!

Gardenwife 03-30-2006 11:43 AM

Hey, all -- Just popping in to say hi. I read your posts, but have to get ready to go camping right now. Howie and I are taking advantage of the nice weather today and tonight, tossing the air mattresses in the van and spending a night at a local campground. See ya!

dragonwoman64 03-30-2006 01:07 PM

I hear you, Jen. I think my boss goes into a panic whenever I'm going to be out of the office (even for a couple of days), then when I come back he has stacks of stuff. I know I couldn't face a Chinese buffet, I love Chinese food. That 1.5 I'm sure is all water weight. Jill, I bet your boss is trying to get a feel for you as an employee before she gets into the swing of things. As a boss, you probably have to be careful about how you phrase any comment to an employee (and let's face it, bosses aren't always the most gracious and tactful people, heh heh).

I had the same experience with the scale, Aimee, when I bought my Tanita. Went up, if I remember right, about 9 or 10 lbs. I felt like crying.

I'm so exhausted. I'd better get some rest before I go to Washington in a couple of weeks. I think I'm going to miss the cherry blossoms unfortunately. I think they're blooming there now, aren't they, Jill? We have some daffodils coming up in the backyard today, very cheerful. I love the spring.

SwimGirl 03-30-2006 03:46 PM

Hey Gals!

Jen - Chinese food is evil, heh.. I find Thai food to be WAY too good. I should look up the calories in those kinds of foods, Josh wants to go for thai food again tonight. It's too addicting, eek!

Jill - investments are good! In Canada we had a pension plan, and they say it's going to be gone by the time Josh and I retire.. so we are trying to plan ahead. Hopefully it'll work out and we can retire early! heh..

Marge - When are you going to Washington? I keep forgetting that!

My brain seems to have shut down.. I'm gonna go recharge.. I'll ttyl!

-Aimee

jillybean720 03-30-2006 04:41 PM

hmm...maybe my new boss is reading my posts  I sent her something today, and within 10 minutes, she replied with an email about what wonderful interpretations I had made :D

I got a lot done today--almost NO down time at all, and almost even had to work late! I am LOVING this not being bored thing!

SwimGirl 03-30-2006 06:08 PM

Jill - good to hear you got some feedback, it's nice to get some praises from the people above us! I like a little downtown personally, it fuels me to work harder.. altho retail is slightly diff I bet..

I am having a lazy day, after a 61 min walk this morning I came home, had breakfast, watched some recorded tv, and FELL ASLEEP! Not totally a bad thing, if my body needed it, then it needed it. But I'm up, having a little snack and back to doing weights after 2 days off. I'm hoping it'll be like the fitness thing, I took a day off and came back stronger than ever!

-Aimee

Jen415 03-31-2006 09:06 AM

Yeah Jill...but we miss seeing you post more frequently! Maybe you can get just a LEEEETLE bored!

Kimberley: have fun!

Aimee: Sounds like you are getting motivated for exercise! I wish I was...:(

SwimGirl 03-31-2006 02:41 PM

Jen - exercise has been easy enough for me lately, it's this dieting crap I'm having issues with. I'm sure it'll be a little bit easier without Josh here, he's on vacation and him and my bro have been eating out like it's no one's business! I got on the scale this morning and it said I was UP a pound! I don't know how thats possible with 1.5 hours of exercise yesterday!

Enough complaining on my part, I am likely up the weight because I ate something bad yesterday and spent the rest of the day ill. I bet I am retaining water or something nasty from that little experience. It was so gross, I ate this seemly normal snack we picked up from a deli, and I think the mayo had gone bad perhaps.. it smelled fine. within 1 hour I was in stomach pain agony with some barfy feelings too.

On to better things! It's sunny and beautiful here! I am almost looking forward to the run so I can spend more time outside, heh. I never thought I'd hear myself say something like that...

I am off to finish breakfast.. ttyl!

Oh and.. come out everyone!!!!

-Aimee
