I couldn't go outside running either - I look like a lumbering elephant with a beetroot-red face... lucky I have a treadmill!! It's easy to do 60 secs of jogging - can't imagine getting up to 30 mins!!

Sitting here in the dark watching tennis, smelling that gorgeous earth smell just before it rains. What a relief after the bloody heat, I can't handle it. I'm dying for someone to call me on skype, as I bought a skype phone and got it all set up, and now noone's calling!

So far this week done:
Mon: 70 mins walking (5.5 kph); within points, drank all my water
Tues: 60 mins walking (5.5kph), 30 mins C25K (W1D2); under points, water done.

leeny 01-23-2007 04:50 AM

Hey all

Firstly Augug...well done on your loss...Great effort especially when not at home and eating plane food etc. Great job...that will set you up for more success and you sound so motivated at the moment:carrot: Keep it up ...i am hoping some of it is rubbing off on me....

Ani....fridge dramas are not good. You can only do your best remember but you also sound more positive than that of late....You too Lindor...one day at a time and you will get there.

Me...been another good day. I can't believe i am still writing that. I don't know whether i will get a good loss though as i had a sneaky weigh in and nothing so far. Thats not fair when i have been good. WEigh in day tommorrow with my sister at WW. She is back from her holiday and thinks she has gained some...not surprising though...bit hard when you are on an island and food is supplied. I havn't done much exercise this week...been very hot here and with TOM...no feeling like it. Did have a swim today though(TOM gone...hopefully not to your place Ani) and tried to do some laps in our pool but with kids jumping and diving....a bit hard.

Anyhow guys i will report in tommorow with hopefully a loss the report...if not i know i have been good and healthy so thats what counts eh....

LittleKiwi 01-23-2007 03:02 PM

Well, I think that the excesses of the past month are starting to catch up with me as I've gained another 0.6kg. :tantrum: Can't expect good results though if I haven't put the effort in I guess.

Had a good session at the gym last night and tonight I'm going to get back into some interval training with walking and jogging.

I got a bit over enthusiastic with paying my bills online yesterday and now have only $100 to last me until next payday two weeks away :o At least that way I won't be able to afford to go out for meals!

My goal is to make sure I stay on the wagon - time is going to tick by and I'd rather use that time to make positive changes in my life than just stay the same.

You guys are all doing really well, keep it up!

:twirly:

Lindor 01-23-2007 03:59 PM

Another successful day yesterday! Around 1600cals consumed. All exercises done. And drank two AND A HALF litres of water!!!

So that makes two complete good days in a row! Today is going to be three!!!

I've done up a huge shopping list - I will go shopping today - and I plan to cook up three meals this weekend which should put nine serves in the freezer for reheats later - that should reduce the cardboard boxes for a little while :D

Leeny, good luck with the weigh-in! But, remember the scales are just a small part of this weight-loss thing and feeling good even though they show no change is what is important - you said that and that is true, we just need frequent reminders don't we?

Little Kiwi, keep at it! As Ani has said before, the fact that we are still here shows we are still very much determined! And after the recent festive season and your little getaway, a week at home sounds like the ideal plan to me! Enjoy it!!! :p

Keep up the good effort ladies...we all appear to be getting back into it now!!! :)

PerthChick 01-23-2007 06:01 PM

Another good day for me too - AND my fridge is working again. The thermostat had gone, so it cost me $200 that I didn't have! Oh well, there goes the food budget for a week or so…

I have to say, I've resisted having a credit card all my life. I'm the kind of person who waits until I can afford something before I buy it, but I must admit that at times like this I can really see the value in having one.

Alright! Today I'm going to walk for an hour, eat sensibly, and drink lots of water. I have managed to make my own dinner three nights in a row, and I'm planning on making myself a chicken schnitzel and salad for dinner tonight.

Sounds like everyone is getting back into it. YAY! I've got my eyes firmly on the goal of getting this next 5kg off by the end of March or early April!

:-)
Ani

leeny 01-23-2007 11:56 PM

Hey all

Yeah....I lost another kilo:carrot: Since going to Weight Watchers 10 weeks ago i started i have now lost 8kg. Not too bad i 'spose considering it was Xmas in the middle and kids are still home and my routine is non-existant. I am a bit dissappointed in that but it is going in the right direction for once and i feel a lot better and know i am healthier for it. If was not going to WW i know for sure i would not be losing. It showed all last year that i need the dicipline of attending somewhere to make the committment and that keeps me honest with myself.

I have been a good girl and followed their program...i am doing what they call a Core Plan, so i deserve the loss this week.

My goal for this week is to exercise more. I seem slack on that part...i do some but honestly could more. That's the part of my diet that i hate and always have. I seem to get away with little so that's what i do. I know when i eventually get to goal i will have to keep it up or the weight quickly comes back on(i have already proven that to myself).

I agree,,,,we all seem to be back into it and back into losing in one way or another. Ani....i couldn't love without my credit card...i wish i didn't have to repay it though but they do come in handy at times...sometimes too handy.

Keep it up girls..this is our year...xxxleeny:hug:

PerthChick 01-24-2007 12:32 AM

Onya leeny - I wouldn't be complaining about 8kg in 10 weeks. I've lost 4kg in that same time… so I think you're a star!

Is anyone else hanging out for The Biggest Loser? I have the Media Kit (as a pdf) if anyone wants it - it means you'd need to PM me an email address of course :-). But bear in mind your computer needs to read pdf files or it won't be any good to you.

It's going to be on SIX nights a week this year. Last year I perversely ate chocolate while watching it (oh don't ask…), but this year I am planning to do exercises in front of the TV.

Britt, are you lurking? I'm getting worried that something has happened, so I hope you pop in soon and let us know everything is OK.

:-)
Ani

pacman12 01-24-2007 02:14 AM

I can't wait for it! 6 nights a week? Really? I've only seen the US version, and I was in the US when the Aussie version was on so I missed it.

I love my credit card - pay everything on it, bills, groceries, etc etc so I get the frequent flier points, then pay it off in full every month. It's great as I can choose the repayment date to fall after my payday, and it's much easier to plan finances. I'm lucky enough to earn a very nice wage, but I found it handy when I was a student and when I was nursing too. As long as you pay it back every month and don't pay interest, it's a great tool.

Lindor 01-24-2007 03:52 PM

Leeny! Congrats on your loss! 8kg in 10 weeks is fantastic!!!! Keep it up!!!!

I have always been curious about The Biggest Loser, and if it was shown up this way I'd most likely watch it! We never got last years series and I have not seen any promos for this year so I guess we miss out again :(

Credit Cards!!! Great for internet shopping! Yeah I know, it is another habit I need to break :(

Like Augigi though, I don't use it unless I have the money to pay it off completely each month! I only have a small limit on mine - $1000 - that way if I got diddled over the 'net and someone else used it, it would not have a huge impact on me. And I assure you if I was diddled, I'd very quickly lose my confidence and probably stop the habit immediately

So, yesterday! Another perfect day for me! If anything I probably under ate again :( I went shopping straight after work and decided when I got home it was too late for my PM snack. Otherwise water was good and exercise was good!

I did buy all the ingredients for my weekend of cooking!! I will start that tonight actually, now that overtime at work is on the cards for Sunday! The only extras I bought that were not on my shopping list, was pet food and cleaning products! NO NUTS!!! Yay!!!

So three good days in a row for me...lets see if I can make it four :)

PerthChick 01-24-2007 04:36 PM

A good day for me yesterday. I walked in the morning for an hour, ate around 1600 calories, drank 2 litres of water - and then a friend asked me to go for a walk in the afternoon … so I walked for another hour.

I'm feeling really positive this week - obviously I've caught everyone else's mood.

Today I have another busy one, but I set my alarm to get up early so I can go for a walk before work - and fit in enough time to do some food shopping for the weekend.

The only thing I haven't managed this week are situps and weights - just haven't found the time. We're in for a revoltingly hot weekend in Perth too, so I need to plan my walks and not make excuses about that. Mind you, I'll be working every day, so I'll be inside with the airconditioner :-).

Lindor it's a shame you can't watch The Biggest Loser. Can't you install a program like Limewire, and download it for free? Or shouldn't I be telling you this on an open forum? If you want I can PM you the info

My Biggest Loser competition starts in 5 weeks - and I'm pretty sure I've found two gyms/aquatic centres to give me a total of 40 free memberships for the duration of the competition. I already have 20 women for my team, and we're having our first goal-setting/team bonding meeting in two weeks.

If you want, I can give you regular updates about our progress, but if your eyes are going to glaze over with boredom I will resist.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

:-)
Ani

LittleKiwi 01-24-2007 05:17 PM

Wow, you guys are all doing so well! Congrats everyone, you're inspiring me to carry on :D

I was stoked with my effort at the gym last night ... I've never been a runner but have been building up some stamina with interval training and last night I managed 40 minutes of 5 min run/5 min walk intervals.

Unfortunately someone had chinese takeaways at home and I just couldn't resist and had that for dinner then went out for drinks with a friend and scoffed an ice cream on the way home :o

Back into my weight training tonight and will endeavour to do some cardio too.

Keep it up ladies :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

PerthChick 01-25-2007 03:34 AM

I just got a copy of Episode 1 of The Biggest Loser, and spent the last 1.5 hours watching it (the best thing is that it was sent to me straight from Ch 10 - so no ads) … and I just have to tell you that Ep 1 is AWESOME!

Conflict, tears and surprises :-)!

Right - now I need to make up the time I just spent NOT working.

:-)
Ani

leeny 01-25-2007 04:48 AM

Hey all

I can't wait for the Biggest Loser this year Ani. I watched it intently last year and it inspired me. My sister however who is a bit of an intellect argued against it and told me "it was doing my head in". As it shows lots of exercise and doesnt show much about dieting itself she said it was bad influences and unsafe and unrealistic goals and challenges. I do agree to some extent but i still was enthralled by it and thought they all deserved their losses.
Ani....you go for it in your Biggest loser. I would love to hear about your successes on here. It may all inspire us to keep going on our challenges.
Lindor...you so sound like you are back on track again. Maybe it was unwinding from your holiday and back into the routine of things again that threw you. I agree that you need to cook up a storm and that will help you stick to things as you will be loooking forward to eating your homemade yummy meals.
Littlekiwi...you inspire me with your exercise thing. If only...I'm sure you burnt those extra kilojoules with the chinese with your exercise. And remember you have to live as well so don't stress about it too much.
Me....had a so so day. Started the day fine with some yoghurt and fruit(yum) then went to the beach for the day with the boys. We stopped at Subway for lunch on the way home and i only had a salad and diet coke and no cookie. Went for a long walk on the beach and then drank all my water as it is soooo hot here at the moment. But by tea time....had to go take a DVD back and then called to the shops to get a few things and then time ticked on. The kids had a chip sandwich for tea, DH a WW frozen meal and i just picked at anything(biscuits, chips, cake,,,,not good). I am hoping it will not show up too bad on the scales as now i feel guilty(the reason why i jumped on here to winge).
Soooo....tommmorrow i will be good. Why do i go backwards when i have been good. Its like i sabotage myself or is it i "reward" myself for my loss with food...,.thats silly i know...
Have a good Australia Day all tommorrow...not too many snags on the barbie and definitely no beers eh!!!:dizzy:

pacman12 01-25-2007 05:41 AM

Ani, thanks for TBL press kit - very interesting! How come you get the episodes early! I'm hanging out, no fair! Heh.

I completed week 1 of the C25K, still not sure how I'm going to go with the week 2 but we shall see. Really wanted to stop while I was doing it tonight, but made myself finish then did another half hour punishment. I am scared to quit in case it gives me an excuse to do it the next time!!

I am finding that doing the exercise regularly really helps me with eating - I don't want to wreck all my hard work by eating crap. We had a work BBQ for Aus Day today, but I avoided the snags and had a salad sandwich and apple instead.

Made my own soup in my new blender last night for the first time - came out rather horrid and I'll have to er.. adjust the recipe, but it was zero points, so it still tasted fine!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

PerthChick 01-25-2007 09:19 AM

Augigi I'm a journo, so we tend to get stuff early. And Channel 10 are helping out with my Biggest Loser competition - so they sent a courier over this afternoon with what they call a Rough Cut DVD. Which just means the show with no ads.

You should be hanging out too - it's looking really interesting this year.

And why am I up so late? Because my darling kittens discovered a frog tonight - and one of the more adventurous ones grabbed it, and raced inside the house with it. Then of course the frog leaped somewhere in my kitchen - I have no idea where it is, but I'm phobic of frogs, and have these vivid thoughts of it leaping on my head when I go to sleep. Half an hour ago I was almost asleep sitting up – but wide awake NOW!

Anyway - I had a good day today. Walked for 90 minutes (I didn't mean to - it just worked out that way), ate 1600 calories and drank plenty of water.

And I would just like to share with you that at almost 11.30pm it is still 32ºC here, and hideous for trying to sleep.

OK - enough late-night rambling. I'm going to get a long stick and see if I can find that bloody frog!

:-)
Ani

LittleKiwi 01-25-2007 02:54 PM

Here in NZ we've just had what I assume is your last season of TBL and boy, I was addicted to that show! I find it so inspiring and think of the competitors often when I feel like slowing down.

90 mins walking is fantastic Ani! Hope you had some luck tracking down that frog ...... ribbit!

Augigi, I feel the same way as you, I also tend to be better with my food if I've been exercising. That's also why I'm finding having 2 personal trainers helpful - it's a waste of money if I don't put in a good solid effort the rest of the time.

Leeny, don't worry about picking at that food, we all do it and it's not the end of the world :^:

Well, as for me, I went to the gym last night (3rd day in a row - yay!) and did a weights session with my trainer and man am I feeling it today! It was a really tough workout and that's the good thing about working out with a trainer - I would never push myself that hard and I like the fact that he does push me to the edge of my endurance.

Am going again tonight for a gentle workout of walking and cycling. Nothing too strenuous though!

PerthChick 01-25-2007 05:35 PM

That bloody frog! I searched for it for ages, and then gave up and went to bed about 1am. About 5 minutes after I turned the light out, my one-year-old kitten found the frog and started stalking it through the house. When frogs are being chased they squeal – really loudly.

So up I got, and it then it became a comedy show. Me and the broom at one end of the kitchen, a terrified frog leaping everywhere, and the kitten having a wonderful time. I eventually manouvred the poor thing outside …

Alright – today! Happy Australia Day everyone :-)

I'm going to walk for an hour this morning, and stick to a healthy eating plan. I've had just one frozen dinner this week – and I'm pretty pleased about that. It's going to be 40ºC here today, so I am anticipating a date with my air conditioner after going for my walk. I've got a couple of articles to write, and some other work to do – and am supposed to be going to a BBQ and the fireworks tonight.

I hope everyone here has a great day!

:-)
Ani

Lindor 01-25-2007 08:25 PM

Mid-night frog chases!!! Oh yeah! I remember them! Not so much because I am scared of them - I'm not - but because I can not handle that noise they make!!!

I also had issues with huge lizards that my cat used to bring in! It is one good thing about this unit, the cat has no access to the outside. I feel sorry for him for that, but he does seem content with things the way they are here. My cat is 6 years old now and has never had free run outside, I don't think he'd survive if I let him now. I can just see him go up to the first dog he sees expecting it to accept him like my two!

I did laugh at the mental images I was getting of you running around, sweating like a pig in 32C temperatures, waving a stick around chasing a frog!! Was it a good workout Ani???

Little Kiwi, keep going with the Gym! I am the same with my eating after exercise. I tend to be good with the intake after I have done my exercise because I'd think the exercise is a waste if I pigged out! This week I changed my routine to accommodate that way of thinking and it seems to be working!

Ani, I'd be interested in your progress reports with your Biggest Loser challenge! I think I'd find them inspiring as well! I'd love to see the show too, but I can't see it happening on TV here. I have downloaded LimeWire, still trying to workout how to use it though

Leeny, what you said about going backwards after being good, rang so true with me! I have been thinking this week also, that maybe I will change to two weekly weigh-ins. I feel I have done well this week (so far) and I am sure if it shows on the scales on Monday I am going to make a pig of myself as a reward! I'll see how I feel on Monday though...curiosity might take over

So, yesterday was another good day for me! All exercise done, all 2lts of water drunk, about 1600cals consumed!

I never got 'round to cooking though! Going to get stuck into that today though! I am looking forward to reducing the frozen meals! I go to the freezer at the moment and nothing jumps out at me anymore :(

So far, four good days in a row (five if I include last Sunday...can I include last Sunday now, please? :p). Going for number five (six?) today :)

Have a great Australia Day ladies!!

PerthChick 01-25-2007 08:48 PM

Yes - it got my heart rate up very nicely thank you Lindor… and thanks for laughing at me in my time of great distress :-). My cats have all become indoor cats since I build the enclosure. Doesn't stop frogs and lizards from getting IN though!

If you have Limewire downloaded, open the program - then click on Video. In the search function, type in The Biggest Loser Australia Season 1, and see what comes up. Limewire is fabulous for songs too, so I hope you get time to play with it.

Bear in mind, that a TV show can take hours to download. I find it best to start the download before I go to bed, then it's all done when I get up the next morning. Songs, on the other hand, only take a few minutes. Oh - and I should also say that if you only have a dial-up connection, TV show downloads won't work.

I just had a thought. If you have a DVD player - and any of the women in here have a recordable DVD, maybe they could tape The Biggest Loser for you, and send you a DVD at the end of every week. Or a video. It is SO worth watching.

I'd be happy to post you a copy of Episode 1 if you're interested.

How are you going to stay off the scales for two weeks at a time? It's a great idea if you can manage it - I tend to weigh myself every morning. For me, I don't feel emotionally attached to the scales … what I mean by that is I don't get annoyed when the numbers shoot up.

By weighing myself every day I have become pretty familiar with my own patterns, and I find it keeps me on track.

I've heard in many places that it takes longer to lose weight the closer you are to goal - so maybe it's a sensible idea.

Blurk! This weather's revolting!

:-)
Ani

Lindor 01-25-2007 09:37 PM

Now come on Ani! How many times have I given your belly muscles a workout for laughing so hard??? I had my own little workout thanks to you and your frog!! :p

I had the same problem at my old house...the cat had his enclosure but it didn't stop the lizards! And I was soooo paranoid he'd bring a snake in one day!!! Would it have been kinder if I had not said that??? :p

I do have a DVD player...if anyone has a DVD recorder and also thinks Ani's idea was brilliant let me know! I'd be happy to cover costs too :) I don't want to miss out on what you are all seeing

Ani, I might PM you my address for a copy of episode 1. I'd like to at least see what it is about!

Not sure if I am going to manage two weeks between weigh-ins...like I said, my curiousity might take over. I'd like to try though...maybe after a weigh-in this Monday

I used to weigh-in daily (in fact everytime I went into the bathroom!!!), but I'd get annoyed that I hadn't lost 2kgs since I last stepped on the scales!!! And if I'd gained anything...look out world!!! I actually think that is what had me cutting down my intake so dramatically. I wanted to see a drop EVERYTIME I stepped on those scales!!

Do you have an airconditioner Ani???? :p

PerthChick 01-26-2007 12:51 AM

Snakes?

Alright - I'll concede that I have had some good abdominal workouts from reading your posts. And you know I don't mind if you laugh at me anyway.

Yes, I have airconditioning! Mind you, it's only in the lounge room, so you can imagine where I've spent the day. I just went out the back and checked the thermometer on the verandah – it's 42.1ºC right at the minute.

But then I would imagine it's much hotter at your place.

:-)
Ani

Lindor 01-26-2007 01:21 AM

Actually we are only expecting a top of 39C today and at the moment it is apparently 33.9C and a nice breeze has just come up so I don't think we will see 39C!...I think you win this time! :p

Right after sending that last post and asking about airconditioning, my lounge room one decides to go on strike!!! It does that occassionally and is often fine if I leave it a day without use, so I'll see how it goes tomorrow! Typical though, first day of a long weekend and things break down! So it looks like I spend the day in the bedroom with the airconditioner or the kitchen with the airconditioner!

pacman12 01-26-2007 05:45 PM

Think I might go down to Taronga Zoo today and do the zoo - Balmoral beach walk. It's about 6 km one way, along the edge of the harbour. Always wanted to see it, but never got around to it. It's a gorgeous day, I feel like being outside, so I will slap on the sunscreen and get out there.

Hope everyone's having a lovely weekend!

Lindor 01-26-2007 06:04 PM

Sounds like a lovely walk Augigi, enjoy yourself! I wish I had such walks here - not to mention 'lovely walking weather' too

Another good day yesterday - ate well, drank well and did all my exercises!

I cooked up a meal yesterday too - Chicken and Potato Ragout. My kitchen looked like a war zone afterwards but I eventually got that sorted! The meal didn't taste too bad! And I have three serves left in the freezer :)

Will be cooking up another today!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend ladies! :)

PerthChick 01-26-2007 06:22 PM

I slept on my two-seater lounge last night, with the air-conditioner on. At 11pm it was 36ºC, and there is no way I can sleep in that sort of heat.

I didn't have too bad a day though. I walked for an hour, and probably ate a little bit more than I wanted to - around 1900 calories. But I know I'm retaining a little bit of fluid. My ankles tend to swell up in the heat, no matter how much water I drink etc. And I feel really bloated this morning!

Ah the joys of carrying too much weight.

Anyway, if I'm going to get any exercise done today it needs to be soon. We're headed for 41ºC again, so I want to get my walk in while I can. Then it's off to the stupidmarket to grab some healthy things for the weekend, and then back to work.

Have a good weekend everyone.

:-)
Ani

Lindor 01-26-2007 09:33 PM

Ani, I feel for you with the heat! I know I hate it!!! Why do I insist on living here!?!?

I think I prefer the cold - it is easier to warm up than cool down I think! If I didn't have airconditiong (and a bonus of an airconditioning reduction on my power bill during the warmer months, thanks to my job) I think I'd have left by now!

Actually think I'd like to move anyway...just have no idea where I'd go!

I can't put my finger on any one thing that really keeps me here. I used to use my house as an excuse. I use my job right now, but if I really think about it, I am capable of doing any kind of clerical job and they are easy enough to find anywhere.

And I am really getting tired of the small town mentality of the people here. Hard to do anything without people gossiping about it, and that annoys me because I am a private kind of person.

I'll stop whinging about it now...no doubt I'll be in the same place physically and mentally this time next year!

So I've just finished cooking up a batch of Potato Topped Chilli Con Carne. Three serves in the freezer and one in the fridge for tonight! I don't know what it tastes like yet because, by the way it smells, I know once I taste it I won't stop eating it!

Going to spend the rest of the day bludging now (with the exception of 30mins step-ups this evening)! :)

PerthChick 01-26-2007 10:44 PM

I know, Lindor - on days like this I wish I lived in Sweden :-).

Not only is it revolting outside, but humidity is at 46%. I stopped walking after 55 minutes today - I was lathered in sweat, and not from the workout, and started to feel a bit sick from the heat.

So whatever I do today will be in the loungeroom (except for going to the airconditioned supermarket in an airconditioned car)!

I'm having a home-made pizza today. I use lebanese bread - put tomato paste on (and then throw basil, chives and oregano on top of that), then capsicum, mushroom, tomatoes, spring onion and sundried tomato … then grate up some low-fat cheese. The way I make it, it's about 380-400 calories for the whole pizza, and it's yummy!

Then for dinner it will be low-fat chicken sausages (grilled) and a green salad – that's another 450 calories.

I must be bored - I'm talking about food!

Good on you for cooking up a storm! It's great to see you motivated and trying different things.

Right - off to the stupidmarket!

:-)

Biggest Loser Style Workout Group forming in North Sydney

I'm forming a workout group in North Sydney (St Leonards Park near North Sydney cricket ground/bowling club on Ridge St.)

The plan is to hire a personal trainer from 6-7am between 3-5 days per week and split the cost between 5 people. (The cost is eqivelant to hiring a personal trainer once a week on your own).

I'm 28 y.o female whose goal is to shed 35kgs - so I'm looking for others with similar goals to form an ongoing work out group.

If you can commit to exercising with a group from February for at least 3 months then give me an e-mail [email protected] for a chat.

Love to hear from you,

Kelly

Lindor 01-27-2007 04:09 PM

Six perfect days completed!!! Seven if I include last Sunday!!!

I struggled with my step-ups last night, I really didn't want to do them, but I forced myself! I am wondering if maybe I should allow myself one day off of them each week, because the one thing that was really weighing on me last night was the fact that I don't get a rest from them! So, starting today, I am going to add it onto my plan that Sundays are Step-up free days! I will continue to do my squats in the mornings though!

My meal last night was yummy! I'm going to be cooking up a Tuna Pasta dish tonight!

Right now though, it is coffee, breakfast and then off to do my share of overtime at work!

Have a great Sunday all! :)

Here we go - 3rd day in a row of 40ºC or more. How is it possible to live this close to Antarctica and have this sort of weather?

I'm getting really grumpy and it hasn't improved my mood to see that next weekend's forecast is for another 3 days of this bloody sweltering heat. Scrap grumpy… throw in my unpredictable hormones, and a sad lack of sleep over the last two nights, and I'm turning into Freddy Kruger's menopausal mother :-)

I have to work today, but I would like to go for a walk at some point - especially as tomorrow is weigh-in day. But here's the thing - does anyone have ideas about how you maintain a regular exercise regime in extreme weather? I've been hoping I could take advantage of daylight savings and walk in the cool of the evening - but the last two nights it has still been around 36ºC at 11pm. No chance!

Sorry - I don't mean to grumble quite so much. In terms of weight loss I've done pretty well this week sofar - not set the world on fire, but managed to reach my goals I set myself.

Barb, are you out there? Last time you posted you said you were struggling with your motivation - what's happening?

Alright, off I go to try and snap out of this mood and get myself moving.

:-)

Hey all

Yes it is hot here too but i don't think as hot....you win over there. The humidity is fairly gross though and i have no airconditioning. We thought about it once but every one i know say "no" don't do it...all the furniture and curtains etc. go mouldy. One of my girlfriends has one and her house always smells musty. We have ceiling fans and our lovely big pool out the back. I get up in the mornings and put on my swimmers and don't seem to get out of them for days. Lovely look my bikini but who cares at home and "i'm cool". Very embarrassing when someone pops in though. My parents did that yesterday and i quickly grab for a shirt and shorts...no-one else sees the flab!!!

Went off track for 2 days this week. I don't know what happened really. We even went for a drive up the range one day, stopped for an icecream and i had one too. Very nice when your hot, but not good for the diet. It's like i go for about 3 weeks and then my brain stops and i forget where i am going and what i am supposed to be doing...i rebel with the brain i think. Back on track yesterday and just had a sneaky weigh in as i know it would be up,.,,,yes,,up 0.8 from last Wed. Do...i must be good today. I too have not exercised...although you have been walking Ani and Lindor with the squats and steps(do some for me will you). I try and do some swimming but the kids get in the way and jump all over the place and i seem to stop. Maybe today...it is only supposed to be 32 today so thats a bit better. We may venture to the beach and i will force myself to walk. Went on Friday and got terribly sunburnt(thats make you evenhotter).

Need to go the "stupidmarket" as Ani puts it and get some school food supplies. Back to school tommorrow for one and Tues for the other. YEAH!!! I'm hoping i will get into some form of routine then and bakc on track totally again. I don't start Uni until 19th and i am hoping to get my house in some form of order by then as well.

Must away...still sitting in the PJs and it si 10.00am...no beds made and no breakie as yet. Have a nice weekend and find some shade somewhere ladies...xxxleeny

PerthChick 01-27-2007 09:54 PM

Hey leeny - I understand about the humidity. On top of our 40ºC we have a thunderstorm brewing off the coast, and coming in this afternoon so it's an extremely "pleasant" day here too. I really envy you having a pool.

I have a couple of small ponds – but even if I could fit in them I doubt my goldfish would appreciate the company!

I hope you're not going to get despondent about a few bad days. We all have them, and you have been really inspiring of late. Be patient with yourself, it will all come good!

I didn't walk this morning. The heat/humidity combination was a wee bit too much. I might drag my dumbells and stability ball into the lounge room this afternoon and do some exercises.

Hey girls, just a quick hello.

I've been so bad this week, wallowing and eating and all the wrong stuff too. I've decided to pull myself up by my bootstraps and get my life back on track again, and work on my health. so it means proper eating, no junk in the house, and plenty of water. I dont want to do it, but I'm going to do it so that I dont end up with diabetes complications, I'm sure its the diabetes that caused the miscarriage.

I'm going to start C25k as well, probably next week once dd is at school, that way I should have the time for a run after dropping her off. I have the first week downloaded on my MP3 and will download more onto my mobile so I'm not carrying 2 items plus keys when running. What does everyone carry their keys and phone etc in when they are running/walking?

Although I still feel numb from recent events, I have to pull myself back together, and I know I can do it with your help. You are a great group of girls and its a pleasure to know you.

chat soon.

Kathy

Hey Kathy,

I've been wondering how you are this week. I wouldn't beat myself up about having a bad week with food and stuff - not after what you have been through. I'm glad you dropped in here to let us know how you're travelling - you know we're always here for you  .

We've had a bit of a cold snap this afternoon. It's almost 6.30pm and the temperature has dropped to 36ºC. I ended up walking for 1/2 an hour, but had to stop because I thought I was going to faint!

Hope everyone else has had a great weekend!

:-)

Lindor 01-28-2007 05:22 AM

Leeny! Trust me (and I know you know anyway) you can pick yourself up after a few bad days! Don't beat up on yourself!!!

I think the heat is hitting everyone just now - although I think Perth has it hotter there than I have it here!

I tend to keep my exercises inside because it is just too hot outside for exercise nine months of the year here. Strange saying that considering I gave my exercise bike away which would have been, and was, an ideal way to exercise inside! I actually enjoy my step-ups in front of the TV for the most part.

Ani, have you considered getting yourself to one of your huge shopping centres first thing in the morning on the hot days and walking through that?? You'd just have to remind yourself every now and then of your reasons for being there and ignore the food and coffee outlets

Kathy, good to hear from you again! It is good to know you are holding up ok. As Ani said, we are here for you

I've had another good day! I actually feel relaxed in that I have given myself the day off of the step-ups. I actually thought I'd make myself do them out of guilt!

And for all those who thought I'd stick to my word and go two weeks without a weigh-in this week, I have decided I will weigh-in tomorrow!

I am quietly looking forward to it...is that a good thing???

PerthChick 01-28-2007 08:30 AM

I would have been surprised if you hadn't weighed in tomorrow Lindor - and given how good you've been I hope you get the right result on the scales.

It's an excellent suggestion to go walking in the shopping centre. We're meant to get another heatwave Friday-Sunday this coming week, so I will do just what you said. I'm not usually tempted by the food halls in those places, or the coffee shops for that matter, so I'm pretty confident I can do the right thing.

OK - I'm off to bed. My brain has turned to mush, and I'm hoping to get some sleep tonight. Mind you, it's still 33ºC right at the moment, so it still feels a bit hot yet, but I am way overtired from the heat of the last few days.

And I feel bloated. Maybe it should be me avoiding the scales in the morning!

Hey ladies!

I can't believe the heat that you guys are having to deal with, it's crazy! I've been complaining about the weather here this summer but that's because we've hardly had any warm weather so far. Lots of grey, rainy days and I'm so sick of it. Thankfully the weekend was quite nice and it looks lovely outside today .... long may it last. Really though, I don't envy you guys having to deal with temperatures in the 30's.

I didn't get to the gym on Friday .... instead I went home from work and was in bed asleep by 7:30pm! Saturday I went for a 50 minute walk which was good and my eating was well under control the whole time too.

Last night I cooked up a huge batch of chicken & vegetable stir fry so that's lunch sorted for the next couple of days. Bought lots of lovely fresh salad veges too so that will be dinner.

Back into the gym tonight and will give the running a nudge again. Here's hoping that the scales will have gone down or at the very least, stayed the same!

Keep up the good work ladies :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

PerthChick 01-28-2007 03:51 PM

I lost 0.7kg this week - weighed in at 94.5kg. Mind you, for the past two months I've been yo-yoing between 94-96kg and it's getting a bit frustrating. I know that some of it has to do with TOM coming so frequently, and now the 40ºC+ days (both things make me retain fluid) - but I must be doing something wrong.

I reached 95kg on 11th December - and here it is seven weeks later, and I've only lost a further 0.5kg.

If I can find any time today I am going to sit down and try and tweak things a bit. Maybe it's time I changed things around, and included swimming in my exercise regime. I might also need to drop down to 1600 calories a day if I can manage it.

Little Kiwi, you're sounding motivated - good for you! I hope you have a great week and see some positive results for your weight loss.

How did everyone else go?

:-)

I'm feeling really depressed now...it's going to be tough to be good today...this week!! :(

After staying spot on track all week, no slip ups, no cheats!! I jump on the scales this morning and nothing changed!!!! Still sitting on 83.5kg :(

I would have been better off not weighing in this morning.

Ani, well done on the drop! Try not to feel too discouraged with it. You are doing everything right...your body and the scales will join the party soon enough.

I need to listen to my own words right?

Alright, going to work hard on being good today! It's been seven days straight now...wouldn't it be sad to ruin my run now?

Staying the same weight in a week is not a bad thing!

When you think about it, it's bizarre that we spend a whole week making decisions about our health - sometimes several times every day. Yet when it comes to measuring the success or otherwise of those decisions we rely on a very flawed external measure – the bathroom scales.

Was it a good week for you Lindor? You bet it was - you ate well, made healthy food choices, did some exercise…

Scales are only a snapshot. They don't divide mucle/fat/water – they just average it out for us. So there's no way to know if your step-ups have built muscle (which weighs heavier than fat) - a tape measure would tell you that much more accurately than the scales.

I know I'm retaining fluid, and I have a suspicion that TOM is on its way again. Can my scales know that? Not a chance.

But what I do know is this. I weigh 10.5kg less than I did six months ago. My waist and hips measure 11cm less than they did last August. I can walk for an hour without too much effort almost every day. My clothes are beginning to feel loose.

And while I weigh myself every day, I will not be a slave to those numbers. Of course I would LOVE to be able to move into the low 90s, and then progress down through the 80s. I will do that - but in the meantime I intend to enjoy every other benefit that my new lifestyle is giving me.

Now I'm off for a walk. Humidity is 65% this morning (hideous) and thunderstorms are lurking - so I'd better get on with it.

Chin up mate - we'll get there.

:-)
