That pumpkin was buried just for you Mel. It's kind of like finding the striped gumball in the gumball machine.
"Tig's Thugs" -- try saying THAT 3 times really fast. |
Day 8 of 21
Singin' in the rain,
Just singin' in the rain, What a glorious feelin', we're drowning again (sorry) we're happy again.                Here's to the aqua pura falling from the sky. Ladies and gentleman - this is what's known as rain!!!! And we're getting some. :rain: :rain: :rain: :rain: :cloud9: :rain: :rain: :rain: :rain: :cloud9: :rain: :rain: :rain: :rain: :cloud9: :rain: :rain: :rain: :rain: :cloud9: In case you hadn't noticed, we are getting some welcome rain. It was a steady rain most of the night and showers today so far. Hope it is also raining in the catchment area and the dams. Moving right along there. I'm having some motivational troubles here. Today is the last day of the challenge on the other thread and I have been getting worse for the last three days. I am determined to get through this one as it finishes the day I leave for Japan. I'll just have to knuckle under and find that willpower wherever it has hidden itself :mag: Happy, I wasn't reminding you of your grammar, I was talking to myself. I can hear my fathers voice once in a while when I wander back into the vernacular. Speak properly, say the words clearly, think about what you are saying and how you are saying it. :blah: I'm pretty certain my father was related to Queen Victoria who once said ' only peasants won't put up with it. If you wish to use the queens english you will say - Up with which I will not put.' Grammatically correct but you have to be plummy to actually say it. Painter - hope I wasn't too hard on you yesterday. Please forgive me if I was. This place drives me batty at times - I'd actually like to run amok with my piece of 4 x 2 with the nails in the end. Starting with the Premier. Glad Happy's blessings helped with the funk. Nae - have a good time. Don't stay away too long, we might move before you get back! The way we talk it is possible. :gossip: Mel - don't give up puffing on that rain. We could use a bit more. It's stopped for the time being. Like to think it will start again soon, although the sky appears to be clearing - darn. Okay, this is it, I am tired of being interupted in my conversation with you to do some work. I'd better go. Question. I have a rectangular (almost square) coffee bag which I have sitting on a paper napkin now that the coffee (?) is brewed. Why does the liquid form an almost perfect circle of stain??????? :chin: Okay get the scientific brains out and let me know. Just singin' and dancin' in the rain! :rain:  :rain:  :rain:  :rain:  :rain: |
Cheers to rainy day friends :D
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s-animated.gif I'm going down the road to visit my sisters this weekend so I will not be posting my extensive exercise routine :p Rob Thomas (singer extraodinary) suggested to me (and everyone else who read the article) that a nice white wine to try is "Santa Margherita pinot grigio" from Italy. Well of course I have bought a bottle to share with my sisters :D It was one of their birthday on Wednesday last :) a wee celebration is in order ;) Don't forget to jump in the puddles ;) that is where the fun is  |
We had close to three inches of rain last night and another two inches again today. When the kids were little we used to sing Rainbows keep dropping on my head....
Speaking of The Thugs, Slim got a t-shirt from them in the mail yesterday. It is a Harley-Davidson motorcycle t-shirt. At least, we're pretty sure it is. It's a black t-shirt and has the very distinctive orange shape and insignia with writing in Japanese letters. Our DDIL said that The Thugs said the sales girl said the words said Motorcycle in Japanese. Our son said jokingly that the words said I love my Honda. I ran on Tuesday and last Saturday. My times haven't been overly great but it has been humid so I'm not complaining about the time. At least I'm getting out there and giving it a go. This Saturday is our party day. I'm really looking forward to having Slim's crowd show up and meeting them. Our weather is supposed to clear up by Saturday so that will be a big plus too. I don't work tomorrow, hurray, hurray! I've been working a lot of overtime. Our financial planner is coming in the morning and then I have a hair appointment for a cut and color. If the rain is gone maybe we can go for a ride in the afternoon. |
C'mon Shad, you have been an inspiration. YOU WILL BE FINISHING THE 21 DAY CHALLENGE. No regrets, no excuses.
'fraid you'll not be boarding that plane if you don't finish this out. I'll call the airlines myself if I have to. Remember, I have friends in Japan - friends that sponsor 21 day challenges :workout: Ok, nuff said. That tired me out. Now I need to get to bed. I think that flu shot I got today tuckered me out. Back in the morning. |
Meadow - pinot grigio - oooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh YES yum yum
Pinot grigio is the Italian version of the Pinot gris from France and much nicer if you ask me! I'm going home sick. Yes well what am I sick of. |
Hiya, all. Radiation #1 down and 32 more to go. I am greatly relieved. No pain. No lasting discomfort. A few moments of regret about being more like a side of beef than a svelte patient… but this is the way it is for right now. DH finished up at work very early, so instead of doing even 15 minutes of marketing or web design, we went to lunch and a bookstore. Par for our course.
I started knitting another baby sweater, had an evening meeting canceled and watched rather more television than I'd intended. I did a few chores around the house, so I'm feeling a little more worthwhile. (I understand the value of human doings… being sometimes seems like a waste….) Hollyhock-- way to go on the parent handbook… So now your school can apparently claim that the students DO come with a manual? I wish that parents could be taught JUDGMENT… and I don't mean they should taught to be judgmental!! I wish they could be encouraged and helped to understand what the message is they are actually demonstrating to their children in contrast to what they think they are demonstrating. Roseblush-- I'm going to get the Google maps up and running. What possessed you to settle 150 miles from someplace? I think that's toooooo far for me… especially in a small town. I wouldn't mind being in Boston and have everything be 150 miles away.. but to be in Teensytown, USA and have everything far away… I don't think I'm cut out for that. Do you have photographs of your region posted? I do yearn for a hill bigger than our fire ants make once in a while. Shad -- I think the first issue I have with your coffee bag/ring question is the coffee bag itself. Coffee should either be in an industrial sized pouch in a coffee maker or loose and put in a filter…. I don't DO coffee bags! Nevertheless, Anything makes a ring because of the surface tension on the napkin. It tries to even itself out… so rather than forming peninsulas, inlets and other interesting shapes, it just forges ahead as evenly as possible along the "warp and woof" of the napkin. And I'd say that if it advances unevenly it's because there was something invisible spilled on the napkin previously…. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Tig… if you send me a photo of the alleged Japanese H-D shirt, I can forward it to my son who studied Japanese for a while… (I couldn't tell if your son knew Japanese or was guessing!). He told me that some of the "cool" skater shirts from a few years back had what looked like Japanese letters, but were really jibberish. Probably like my spam blogger verification words…. ! Sorry to report that we are still rainless and expected to be in the 80's through Tuesday. I'll gladly trade. Especially cooler air and more breeze. Has New Hampshire really gotten MORE rain, or is there some other reason they've had the flooding? Happy fitness and healthy thoughts everybody. |
Painter why o why are you knitting baby sweaters? Have I missed something? Good luck with the treatments. That's a challenge all it's own! Was the bookstore Borders?! Next time pick me up!
Happy~you should have heard the laughing when I found it just sitting there for the picking! LOL Shad~ WTF Enough said!!! :rollpin: I am puffing on those rain clouds as hard as I can. I must be out of practise! Congrats on your rainfall! Meadow~ I was singing in the rain once and pirouetting like a ballerina with my umbrella and a man stopped his car to watch me trying to get my friend into the puddle:rain: ....of course I was about 16!! Your graphic reminded me of that day! Enjoy the wine and the sisters! :gift: Tig~ glad you stopped running long enough to check in. The Honda thing is toooo funny. Bet the kids had a great time picking out the t-shirt. Have a great time with the new friends and party. i think all the rain is in NJ still so maybe you'll stay dry!!! Speaking of which.......the weatherman of course took back the prediction of a dry NJ by today!!!! Actually he is just seems to be ignoring the fact that he even said it...several times even!!! Oh well......Jen picked up a few groceries and we will share till Tuesday. I'll go then for myself. I plan ahead for disasters anyway. I like to have all my "stuff" around me when I don't feel good or cannot get out. If it was warmer, I wouldn't mind getting wet! OOPS doorbell....adios . |
Everyone is getting rain and all we have fog.
PW~ you sure put a lot of effort into Shad's coffee ring dilema.Glad the day went well for you. Meadow~ ENJOY!!! Thas' an order!! HUGS ladies!! Pounding headache but an easy spirit today. I have this cold that DH and the kids have had but they are hacking and wheezing. Every cold I get goes deep into my sinuses so my head is about to explode. Yesterday was awesome. I did not go to book club or to do my Grandma’s hair. It was difficult to say no to both. DH worked til 7 didn’t get home til 8 so we had chicken soup and grilled cheese in front of the tube. Both kids were in bed by 8. I had 5 kids all day but they were relativley well behaved. I farted around on my computer just for fun. I watched my soaps and rested. I stayed up to watch ER. I slept through the alarm and woke to a Mom knocking on the door. All 4 of us and the cat were sound asleep. Gotta love foggy fall mornings.Yikes. DH’s has a great job right now. He freelances carpenter services. A lot of builders dont have steady houses lined up so if there is a few days break most guys will go find another job. This guy doesn’t have a house to start til Tues and he is paying Dh today and Monday to wait til Tues. WOW, a contractor with integrity and who appreciates my man!! Woohoo.Highly irregular but makes living with DH pleasant cause he is valued. I will have my Avon booth at the farmers market tomorrow.Kinda excited. Going to do grandma’s hair in the aft and then hockey at 6. No church Sunday.Big event in another town and we are not going. I have the cleaners coming again on Tues to fall clean the rest of the main floor. DH noticed it on the calendar and asked about it. I told him. He used to balk at me for getting help way back, so I stopped. He said, “oh good."Yippee! Gotta love a man who gets smarter every year.LOL! I am irked by the Aunt once again. I only saw the family for 2 hours on Monday. It was enough to reinforced the limited contact. Too bad cause I love them so much. sigh. My Mom must have mentioned, oh, 200 times that it was a short visit. I said,” better than no visit!” ,oh, 200 times. Dad just rolled his eyes. Sis was okay. Nephew and my kids raced around for 2 hours. No time to fight.Great!! The ridiculous aunt( I will remind that she is 62 going on 5) kept cuppng her hand around my sisters ear and wispering things to her. Made snotty digs about the turkey tetrazini I was going to make and killing my Grandma with it( I make frozen dinners for my Grandma every day and deliver when i do her hair). She also commented about how she HAS to go throught the meals I make to make sure thay are good enough. Hello??????? I was boiling but kept my mouth shut. Why oh why did I spend 40 years trying to get this ***** to like me and be friends. Why did I believe all the negative bullshit she said about me and to me all this time. Between My Mom, sis and her it is amazing I didn’t throw in the towel long ago. And these are the people who were supposed to love me, nurture me and lift me up. Why does my Dad put up with them. He is the “head” of the family. He hears it ,sees it, rolls his eyes, shakes his head but doesn’t stand up. It seems weak to me.I suppose he has to live with Mom but as for his sister........ I dont understand it. It makes me thankful for my own husband and family. My former best friends think my husband is an *******....and he can be. I love it. We are both strongwilled and outspoken. We both challenge each other all the time. No lack of backbone in this house. We are both willing to learn and grow and make changes.Thank God. Literally. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Our kids are strong this way too. Never dull anyhow. No complaceny or underhanded bullcrap in this house. It is wide open!! Lord knows it gets loud. We all make mistakes. At least we are “allowed” to. ARG!! Off my emotional roller coaster. Releasing the irkedness. whooooosh. Okay. I need to get cleaned up and putter. HUGS!!!! PS food has been abysmal the last 2 days. Better so far today. Do ya think there is a link between binging on comfort food and seeing my family??? |
Holly~ Jen just left and we were having a similar convo as your post that I just read!!! Relatives and friends and how it took us so long to say f*** off!!!! :lol3:
Funny how ralphie Boy sent this this morning....I shared Ralph with Jen about an hour ago and decided to share him with you too. I just re-read it while drinking a coffee.......hope you have time for him too:encore: to all of us because we are survivors!!! Jen left with a smile and I have one too. Good luck with the Booth!!!!!!! THE DAILY MOTIVATOR Friday, October 14, 2005 Look up +++++++++++++++++++ Look up from what you're doing and look around for a minute. See what a beautiful world you're in. Take your mind off the problems for a moment, and focus on the positive possibilities. Consider how very much you are able to do. Turn your attention for a while away from the worries and anxieties. Remind yourself of all your many blessings. The direction of your focus is the direction your life will move. Let yourself move toward what is good, valuable, strong and true. The things that fill your awareness are the things that will fill your life and your world. So expand your awareness beyond your own concerns and toward the best of what can be. Look up and look confidently toward the highest vision you can imagine. The moment you do, you're on your way there. Ralph Marston |
Morning all,
Supposed to be a dull grey and wet day here today, but from my window I can see patches of pink sunrise and a fair bit of blue. It's quiet apart from that damned plane overhead and cool enough to do things around the place. I came home from work yesterday because I wasn't feeling so well. Pains in the back and shoulders and shooting pains up the neck and a sinus headache that threatened to explode and cause holocaust number 3. Came home, went to bed, slept for a long while and feel better this morning. I'm going to try the gym later and see how it goes. Part of the reason why I felt so bad at work is because I am fixing up OTHER peoples mistakes. It's a long slow boring job which doesn't make anybody feel good and I got to do it. So that didn't make me feel any better either I can tell you. Anyway, I missed the farewell to a couple of contractors leaving the project - not that I knew either of them very well anyway. That lowered the calorie count a bit as well. I've finished the challenge on the other thread. Not starting a new one there until I come back form holiday. I'm carrying on with this one here and will finish that on the day I go away. Painter - you did well on the explanation of the circular ring from the square coffee bag on the napkin. Never thought of weft and warp - do they have those on paper napkins - coarse variety - std government issue?? But I appreciate the effort and thought that you put into it. By the way - coffee bags are not the greatest but by heck they are better than some of the instant cr*p we are getting at the moment. I haven't had the time to go get the real stuff and another plunger to take to work, but if I see one in the store today, I might remember to buy it. Glad to hear #1 radiation went fine. Maybe you can make it a challenge to be a slightly less side of beef by n\#32. How often do you have to have these? Tig - love the story of the t-shirt. There used to be a cap in the stores of here that looked like it was in Chinese or Japanese characters. And come to think of it, most of them were in black and orange as well. However if you looked at it sideways while thinking laterally - the 4 characters spelt out that particularly nasty 4 letter word starting with F. It's amazing how one can trick the eye from time to time. Holly - so you are not well either. Sorry to hear that. Like most things this too will pass. Families huh? Who was it who said - 'God gives us our families, thank God we can choose our friends.' Happy - so you are on this plane with me huh? Oh good. That means someone to talk to and to exercise in the aisles with. Bring a couple of good books we can share. I'll check out the movies. Should be interesting finding your way to Tokyo from Nagoya to find Red Balloon. Once you are on the Shinkansen it isn't a problem (provided you are on the right one) but getting to the right platform is fun! Doko, arigato, domo etc. etc. etc. (where is... thank you.... thanks heaps). Think it is time to go check out the washing machine, get dressed, get ready for gym, get breakfast, get, get, get whatever comes next. Can't be bothered planning at this point. Back later. |
Yesterday's trip to the podiatrist was good. Got that much needed injection and ordered some shoes with those special inserts. He did ask about the other surgery. He acted like he was glad to see me. While in Jonesboro, I returned a pair of shoes to Dillard's that nearly killed my feet. I'd tried them on one morning before church and decided I could not wear them. Really was pinching that bunion. I found some that was a lot more comfortable.
Today was pay day--. I ran some errands, bank, grocery store, and post office. Called the cable company and finally got back on line. Mel -I saw on the news about all the rain. Is it that deep where you are? If your going to Texas stop by and pick me up. They were rescuing some firemen. PW - glad that the chemo went good. Take it easy. Did something different today. Paid someone to mow this yard. I still need to get out and do some yard work. I'm going to see if that will help the allergies. Holly - hang in there, Your grandmother appreciates what you do for her. Hello to all the rest. |
Hey all,
Not much to say today. It's been a horrid, killer week at the office. I am wiped out. And my leg is in alot of pain. I think the chiropractor is doing some good - I can see a marked difference in my spine, however as my foot straightens out, all the muscles and nerves and tendons are shifted to where they should have been all along and it is painful - much like twisting them out of place would be painful. People who have gone through this before has assured me that it is normal and to bear with it. I suspect much like when I was having problems with my neck and arm, my very job does not help the healing process. How can you not lean on a desk (and your arm) when your job is to type at a computer all day long :comp: same goes for sitting for extended periods of time. I do try to get up and walk about when I can and drinking lots of water all day long ensures at least some walking movements - and running at times when I disregard the call of nature for too long :o But still I think the sitting is not helping the healing process. Next week we go to home back care class which will teach us some interim stretches and exercises which I think will help a great deal. So I am not feeling too chatty and perky right now. I am icing the back then headed off to throw open the windows wide and hopefully sleep deep and peacefully with fresh air and a nice warm cozy under my back. Keep doing all those good things you are doing for one another and the people you love. It's what keeps the world a good place to be. Night now. |
Hi girlies....
This is I am sorry to say, one of those quickie posts just to drop by and say hi!!  I am at home for the weekend as my friends are off in two directions over the weekend to visit grand children...they said I was welcome to stay whilst there were away but I decided against it. It is funny being back in my own abode....Holly very quickly got back in to "kill the cat" mode..... :lol3:  My mood is a bit better on occassion...but I saw my G.P. on Thursday who said how were things so I told him I had been struggling with a bad bad headache :headache: :headache: :headache: :headache: for the past fortnight plus some...he decided it was a tension headache which I have to agree with. :stress: :stress: :stress:coupled with a sleep pattern to die for and the general messiness of how I am feeling at present....he has told me to increase my Trazadone to 400mg....we have already put it up to 300mg from 200 mg....Hopefully I will be sleeping for the rest of the entire year...he he he !!!! I have not managed to read the pages and pages and pages of posts yet...I thought I would dive in and post first to let you know I am still in the land of the living afterall.....I will put a few hours aside and then go back to page 7....PAGE 7!!!!!!!! Before long I will find you moved to another house..one with a log fire perhaps for us who are slip sliding in to the cold autumn/winter solstices..... Ok...I had better get on with the afternoon...shopping...ironing....sleeping!!!! Hello to everyone...take care and all go safely!!!!! Love from Teel |
Looks like everyone is in a hurry today.
Happy--I too have opened my windows. The fresh cool air is nice for a change. Had another sick spell last night right after I ate dinner. It was mainly veggies, pinto beans, corn, spinach, and a hamburger patty with cheese. I'm beginning to wonder if I have an ulcer. :( I need to get busy cleaning the house and pay a couple of bills. Have a good day. |

:sunny: Right now the sun is shining, the mockingbirds are singing like crazy, the butterflies are dancing in the sun and flitting among the flowers. And there is just enough of a breeze to occasionally waft through the windows and gently blow the hair on your head.
It's beautiful and I'm sending some of it in each direction over your way. Thanks for the tip on the showers Mel - nope, no one told me that tho I know it's ice first to reduce inflamation and then heat to relax the muscles. But I do admit to putting the hand held shower massager against my knee leg and foot - feels so good. I'll know better now. Back to the brrrrr freezing ice pack. Teel :welcome3: back. We're always glad to hear from you and Holly who chases cats much bigger than she. Shots in the foot Ceejay? Yikers. I had plantar facitiss (sp???) and luckily avoided those shots. Heard they were mega painful! :yikes: What's with the tummy upset? Sure hope you don't have an ulcer. Ooops. Sounds like DH is ready to go. We're off to the nursery to pick out some fall / winter flowers. Happy happy joy joy - I now live in a place where we can have flowers year round. What a thrill! And we're going to pick out paint for the dining room. So if he's ready I'd better be also... Catch you later -- your buddy Miss Limpy Stiff Leg (but I'm NOT letting it get me off track or ruin this perfect day) |
Mel~ thanks for the Ralph fix. Nice. " I WILL SHARE SOMETHING WITH YOU ALL....EACH ONE OF YOU I HAD READ SOMETHING FROM YOUR JOURNALS OR ON THE FORUM. I FELT I WANTED TO GET TO KNOW YOU BETTER. THERE WAS JUST SOMETHING ABOUT EACH OF YOU THAT MADE ME FEEL GOOD ABOUT MYSELF. I AM GLAD TO BE HERE WITH YOU ALL. " Oh, me too. I had a BIG empty spot in my life and my heart. Knowing all of you is great is dozens of ways. I thank my lucky stars every day and cant wait to get here and read how everyone is doing. You are all a true blessing.
Shad, Teel, Happy, CJ, PW... we are all feeling a litle rough. Lets hope for a happier , healthier week. I had a wonderful morning at the farmers market.I made 1 sale connected with several potential clients. Had good convo.Woohoo. I went to Grandma's to do her hair and visit. She had bought the kids magazines through the school for Xmas gifts and decided to pay me cash instead of cheque because my aunt has been going through her cheque book and records questioning her about her finances. My Grandma is a fininacial whiz and has all her marbles and can certainly buy her great gand kids gifts. the issue for the aunt would be that it was my idea. Stupid woman. CJ~ my Grandma definitely appreciates what I do. We have been best friends all of my life. I dont doubt that. That is probably what makes putting up with the aunt tolerable. Gonna whip a quick supper and go to hockey. Have a great night. |
Greetings... So we are having doldrums over the weekend? Perhaps it is too much rain, too many relatives... just "too much."
DH and I went driving round the boonies to the East of here (in spite of gas prices)... found relatively teensy towns... they looked sizeable and as though they might have "quaintness" potential on the map... but most of them were just tiny: A couple of antique malls, a gas station, feed store, and if not a Sonic or McD's some off brand MinitMart... WITH beer. but it was sunny and pretty. No rain in sight here.... we are having a DROUGHT. I'll send some dry caleche dirt if somebody will send rain clouds. Tomorrow is catch up day: laundry some reading and "to do list" in small increments. I bought several kinds of bulbs on Friday and goodness knows when I'll get them planted... Happy day of rest, y'all. |
Ceejay~ hope the stomach feels better now. The food looked ok on your list. maybe just an off day. you can put your foot up and watch the grass grow for awhile now and rest. Now just where were those uniforms?!?!?!?!?
Happy! we had sun and WIND. I went for a ride but was quickly discouraged. Had some nuts for the squirrels, put them in my usual spot and flew home. Brrrrr. I will soon be making snowmen!  I better spend 1/2 my Winter with you and the other 1/2 with Shad. maybe Ceejay too and PW.....have to see where their temps go to!!! Holly~ Poor Grannie. I have some seniors here that go to the Mall and then have to explain what the bought. These are usually the relatives that will inherit when they go!! :lol3: so they worry where their $$$ is going to. just stick it out with her like you already do. PW~ the small town ride sounded nice...... did they have any cowboys?!?!? Any bookstores??? Your post reminde me of a Brady Family episode where they wandered into a deserted town and were all taken prisoner by an old coot!!! I too need to start trying to catch up here today. with housework and some cooking. last week I did nothing! I found out that the town will find someone else to help the woman that has cancer in another office uptown. just can't keep up that kind of pace and told them so. She could be out a long time or lots of short times. Who knows. Sometimes volunteering has to be cut off.....tooooo much work and responsibility for nothing. And way too many steady hours for me. so I should be free as a bird again.(tweet, tweet) I must admit that last night I wrote in my journal and realized I had forgotten all about the challenge!! After 12 days, I am back to day one today!!! :lol3: Must have been all the meds! Off to a great start today though! :moped: |
Busy but wonderful day yesterday. My food has been better than abysmal but not much. I am not feeling well with a mild cold and terrible headache. I find it hard not to eat comfort food, which ends up being bread and such.
Much housework to do. Enjoyable on a rainy day. I went through some clothes and am givng some to the thrift shop; that I didn't wear last winter. I ordered 2 pairs of jeans from sears in size 20. 1 size down from the last 5 years ,LOL! I need to get my food lists out and focus better on choices. PW~ to get weeds out of my lavendar and coralbells etc I dig around the whole clump and loosen it up and then pull each weed out. It is a good time to toss in some compost and then stamp it back down. Pigweed had been in the news here lately too. Very toxic to us humans. I suspect that is what gave me hives earlier this summer. Not sure of it's origin. Good morning and happy day ladies!!!!! |
Good afternoon,
I have started some fall cleaning which really takes up too much of my time, but it has to be done. I've decided that I will be using the dishwasher. It may take a couple of days to fill it. I honestly spend to much time in the kitchen. I had a jolt out of bed last night. I thought the wind was blowing the mini blinds. Had the windows barely open. Then it sounded like someone breaking into the bedroom window at 2:30 a.m. I got up turned on the light and yelled who is there, I have a weapon. A male voice said excuse me I have the wrong house. Then I hear him go next door and knock on that window and call Bertha. My neighbor's name is Bertha. From now on the cell phone is going to be on the night stand. I'm going to program the police station's number in it. I couldn't go back to sleep until around 6 this morning so I've had a late start this morning. Got up at eleven. I'm still pretty shaken by that episode. Mel you are more than welcome to come here. We sometimes have temperatures below zero. I'm thinking I might have had a virus. I have approximately a half a day to get some more things done before I go back to work. I hate unsightly computer cords. Gotta figure out a way to keep them detangled and out of sight. I moved my comuter from the closet back to it's original spot in the bed room. I couldn't find the right kind of lighting to go in there. I've broken the 21 day challenge once again. I'll be doing a one day challenge for 7 day's, then try for 3, 7 day. I will be pledging 45 minutes of aerobic exercise and 15 minute "toning exercise" for 6 days, and resting one day. This will consist of food=1500 calories, liquid=48 ounces, and exercise. have a good day. |
Morning all,
Me too Ceejay - broken the 21 day challenge. I'm going to just do a seven day one as I don't have enough days before I go away to do the biggie. What an awful fright you must have had when that man was banging on the windows in the night. Computer cords are always a nightmare. I thought I was going to have fun with a wireless keyboard and mouse - get rid of a few of the cables, but they seem to be right back there and the keyboard and mouse are only good if the receiver is within spittin' distance. So mainly I still use a normal keyboard and mouse. Holly - at least you are one size down and not up. That's a plus. Keep pluggin along. It's difficult after 40 but it is damn near impossible after 50. So get it off now. Glad to hear that the farmers market went okay. Dear old Grandma - why doesn't she just tell them to rack off. Mel - sort of catching up here, what woman, what cancer, what office, what am I missing?? Are you about to join the ranks of the employed?? Painter - Why are you driving in the boonies? Are you thinking of moving to a smaller town? Or are you looking for something special and the boonies might just have it? Isn't it funny, you see someplace on the map but when you get there, the whole place consists of a pub, a church, 2 houses and an old railway station. Oh yes and a museum with 15 items in it, mostly bottles. Thinking of rain for you. Happy - How nice to see the butterflies dancing around the plants. I have a bunch of pentas out right now. Butterflies seem to enjoy them as well. So do some funny looking beetles that were out there feeding in force on Saturday along with bees and butterflies. Thought of you on Sunday when I was shopping and there were several tee shirts with bright beautiful butterflies painted and sequinned. Was tempted to buy one, but after all that clothes shopping the other day, I had better be good for a while. Teel - nice to see you back. Do as Mel says now and check in more often. Otherwise I'll have to come on over there with a big stick and make you sit there. I feel better now, although I still have a blocked up nose. At least the back pain and neck pain have gone. I went to gym on Saturday and did the Body Balance class and I'm sure that made me feel better. Went again yesterday and did a full cardio and half a weights session. Then went shopping. I needed some new gym shoes and a new clothes drying rack (not much use hanging the washing out in the rain. Wasn't that impressed with the price of either the shoes or the rack I might add. What I didn't really need was 3 new tops. We have just had the most wonderful weekend of steady rain and coolish temps. I have no doubt that when the sun does shine again everything will spring up 3 feet (including the weeds). The weatherman tells us there is more on the way at the end of the week. News tells us that the dams have now got 2 more weeks of water in them, and when the run off gets to the dams we might have as much as 2 months more. Apart from the weather and Princess Mary's new baby there hasn't been much else in news. Still I guess both of them were good news stories which doesn't happen very often does it? Better go strike a blow. 10 days to go. |
Hello world! :D
I had a great visit with my sisters. Ate buttertarts, drank wine, had pork roast and mashed potatoes. The kids sat at the table colouring with their aunties till 11pm. We had a good natter about everything. Laughed about the teacher's strike. The telephone strike, we just got our phone put in after three months :yikes: no more hot ear from the cell phone :p I'm sorry to read about the colds, headaches and pains that are winging around you all. Fall does seem to bring more than its share of things to the body, although it isn't really Autumn for Shad, hmm, must be sunspots ;) |
CeeJay-- Well, at least you have an idea of what Bertha's up to! And I'm glad the guy answered you so you could have at least a little peace of mind. He's lucky he didn't get wounded, one way or another.
Hollyhock... loosening soil in Texas is a neverending story, isn't it. If there's too much moisture you realize that it is just like clay... (think solid yet sticky... maybe like taffy) and if it is dry... well then it is like baked clay. HARD. Definitely can used MORE compost and bark chips. Shad-- Small towns here seem to have two houses, 3 churches, NO pubs, and either an auto parts store, pawn shop or nail salon. The pubs must be "un-marked" because of all the Baptists! DH tells me that their used to be double-wides on one of the farm to market roads that were actually brothels... Then a developer came in and built an enormous mall... So people get scr*w*d a different way. I haven't ever seen a museum with bottles... but we passed one yesterday that said it was the North Texas Children's Museum. Surely it didn't display children.... A week's challenge might be a good idea. I seem to be starting over every day. I stayed up toooo late last night, went to a peer-supervision group this morning, came home and did the dishes (DH was REALLY in domestic mode... vacuumed, did laundry etc.! What a sweet heart)... and then had lunch (I'm not telling... :( and then promptly fell asleep for what turned out to be an almost 5 hour "nap"... then watched hockey. So now I'm bright eyed and bushy tailed and ought to be going to bed..... Hope you all get a good start to your week. |

I think in Illinois our small towns were still pretty big and populated. But down here is another story. We haven't had the opportunity to jump in the car and go exploring yet but someday I'd like to take a trip east and go see those Smokey mountains I've heard so much about. Ceejay what a frightening experience for you. Still gives me the jitters thinking about it. I've been very uncomfortable leaving the windows open at night on the first floor. They just recently arrested the man they believe to be the Hacks Cross Creeper - a man who would break into people's houses at night through open windows and steal cash. The locals in the subdivision poo poo the idea of trouble around here but I'm no longer comfortable ANYWHERE. No even in the 150 mile wilderness of Nae's place. Hope you recover from that scare. What is Bertha's friend doing trying to enter through the window anyway? Does he think he's Romeo? Good way to get shot brother. Yesterday I spent the day rummaging through the upstairs closets. I am a terrible morning person and a big part of my problem in trying to figure out something to wear. As one of the journalers said - "just because you can get in it, doesn't mean it FITS." I waste countless minutes tossing this, trying on that, feeling ok in something UNTIL I look in the mirror. So I have arranged the clothes - put off in another closet those things which require a few pounds down, that which fits now and away with the summer things. Of course now that I put away the summer stuff I see it's supposed to be close to 90 degrees tomorrow and Wednesday - can't win, can you? I guess we are restarting a challenge albeit a shorter one. Fine by me. I am adding a few more things to mine. In addition to water and daily exercise I am going to add mindful eating. Think before putting it in the mouth - is this the best I can do and am I doing myself right. I've been in that frame of mind for a few days now and it's helping - I don't go into the deprived diet mindset. Had one of my favorite dinners last night - baked chicken, a nice green salad, a bit of summer squash and a small baked potato. Enough left over for 2 more lunches. I didn't go grocery shopping yesterday - sometimes I'm just at a loss for ideas to cook which makes groceries all the more annoying. I'll probably stop for a few essentials after work and try and use up things around the house. Good going on the "downsizing" Holly. Hope you get enough rain Shad to store up a bit for later times. 9 days and counting is it? Meadow, good to hear you had a great visit - food sounds lovely. Buttertarts reminds me of that Wings song - Admiral Halsey / Hands across the water. "... the butter wouldn't melt so he put it in a pie..." not quite the same thing but I'll be humming that all day now. Mel, I think Ceejay and I are close enough and PW is about at the same latitude so that we all share similar mild winters. Feel free to come visit and bring your friends Linus and Teel too. Just hurry before the fall rains set in. I see that DH's home state of Rhode Island is getting it's share of flooding rains too. Time to get on with the day now. Let's all report in a successful challenge day today. |
Oh and yay! My hometown baseball team - the Chicago White Sox - won their division yesterday and are going to be in the World Series playoffs. Last time they won a pennant was 1959. Haha I told hubby - my Sox made it to the playoffs before his Cubbies did.

GOOD MORNING!!!
Felling better today so far. I didn't get the headache yesterday til the evening. Just 4 kids today. I thoroughly cleaned the livingroom and reorganized 2 shelf units. I found a new home for the record player.Yup, for vinyl records, very 70's, just like hubby. He has a great collection actually. Food was much better, still not great. I have taken heed Shad abut the age/difficulty losing weight thing. I really do want to lose this 30 lbs. Happy~humming Wings is a great way to start the day. I was clearing closets too. If I didn't wear it last winter, poof its gone. Hubby still has ( and fits into) all his clothes from highschool( the 70's).Hope you day is delightful. CJ~ HUGS, hope you are over your fright. Meadow~ bet you wish it was AB trying to climb into your window. Glad you had a good time with your sisters. Okay, so today is day 1 of 7 for me. Loosely follow SB and get some/any extra ecercise!!! |
Is this where I am supposed to say GO SOX!!!!?????:encore:
I feel the same as you Happy.....they still have not caught the 2 rapists over here! :yikes: Won't it be nice to have those flowers all year long! I forget if you have said what the ;lowest temp might be in Winter?! Ceejay I can imagine how you felt! I would have been awake too! That was an awful fright you had. I remember when we had 3 robberies here in broad daylight....they changed all our locks to "burglar proof"(sup[posedly) and we were all nervous for a long time and we never even SAW him! Hope he remembers which house it is...the phone idea is a good thing. Thanks for reminding me cause I have been remiss about that. I like your idea of a shorter challenge too! Shad~ a woman in Jen's old office has cancer. I was asked quietly if I could fill in. But the rigid hours and transport are too much...bathroom etc aren't good for me so because my back got so bad they will have to go down another avenue!!! Not sure what I was thinking but this all started a few weeks ago and I posted it. ( I'm pretty sure I did) I must have had my invisibility cloak on again! :lol3: Anyway it's all over now! Meadow~ I will survive Fall if it kills me:rofl: Glad to hear the trip went well. sounded marvelous. guess the kids had a great time too. Loved coloring with Jen. Something so relaxing and calming about the smell of the paper and crayolas! lol:write: I thought you said you ate butterflies and was agog over here for a few seconds! Holly~ I need to clean-up around here too. Getting sloppy about putting things in their proper places!!! You're giving me some motivation along with Ceejay. I'm ready to start tossing! comfort foods are a tough thing for anyone. Hang in there. good for you and a size smaller....more than I can say!!! :rofl PW~ I fell off the challenge too. Think I will follow Ceejays idea. Now we will all want to know exactly WHAT is in that children's Museum!!! I was laughing the other day...the small town with 168 and a small town here has more than 168,000:faint: makes me want to leave these city parts. :drive: As I said yesterday, I had forgotten the challenge somehow and restarted yesterday....only to forget again! I did everything but the breathing exercises. But I'll do a week at a time. So today will be Day One. We are drying out rather rapidly here with these winds but I didn't stay out very long yesterday either. It feels like it's in the 50's when riding so I passed and came back. Maybe it's time for indoor sports!!! good thing I came back because a woman fell and needed help. Why no one called the police is beyond me!!! Turned out she was ok so alls well that ends well. I better go and clean. Been spending too much time reading, tv and making like a statue!!!! Have a great week! to the rest of the Around clan. |
Holly you snuck in ahead of me!!! You vixen you!!! Sorry to hear about the headaches. Hope you'll be feeling better today....headache free!
|
Hi ladies,
I'm just about finished with the week end paperwork. Yipee. Holly-Glad you had an almost head ache free day. I hate those things. Mel--Good for you in helping a stranger in need. Hello to all the rest. I'm still doing good on the one day challenge. I have completed the 45 minutes of aerobics and at least 36 ounces of liquid.(12 of diet coke, 12 water, 12 of tea) Got up out of bed this morning at 5.00 a.m. and got started by 5:15 a.m. I'm still with in calorie range. Now I just need to do the 15 minutes of "toning" exercises. Think I'll get that out of the way right now by doing some lower body exercises. Abs will have to wait until I get home tonight. Not much else going on today. Take care every one. |
9 days to go, 9 days to go, 9 days to go
And if you think I am getting excited you ought to see some of Chris' e-mails. 'I'm telling everyone it is next week' she said in one. Well it is, but it is more than a week away. She's got us an invite to a school open day (where we will be honoured guests - take a bow) and dinner at a MYO sushi night. That should be fun, well as long as there is not deep fried prawns on the menu - the shells get a little crunchy!
Day 4 of gym today. This five days from Saturday to Wednesday seems to be working for me. Not that I have lost any weight but I go and do it quite cheerfully - well mostly anyway. By the time Thursday comes, I'm really pleased not to be packing the gym gear for yet another session. So what of this short course challenge - ummmmmm How about: Water No snacking Exercise Packing the lunch every day instead of about 3 out of the 5. That should keep me occupied. Lunchtime today I need to go downtown to buy a middle sized suitcase. Big Purple that I took away with me last time was fine for a long trip, (well not according to Happy) but I don't need to cart it around for a short trip. The other two cases I have are really only good for overnighters and two day trips. So Midsize Purple may have to come into being. I'll start looking today. Also have to make an appointment to get my haircut and coloured this week. Can't go looking like the wild woman of Aus, the Japanese will have trouble getting used to me as I am. Ceejay - glad to see you getting into the exercise swing. It does bring about a lot of benefits even if the weight doesn't fall off. Melody - "I will survive Fall if it kills me" Yes well isn't it lucky we know what you mean. Thanks for clarifying the office bit. You probably did write it, I probably did read it, I also probably did not remember it. Holly - those headaches sound awful. Have you got some sort of sinus infection? Go with the flow. But rest up when the headache arrives. Know what you mean about the DH fitting into all of his old gear. My ex did too, until he stopped working and became a sloth. Then he piled it on. However when he went home and had to do things for himself and got himself a bike then he just dropped it, just like that. Grrrrrrrr Rose - lovely to see you back again safely. Sounds like you had a good time with the folk and the dogs. Toby won't want to go back into the laundry after this holiday. Happy - small towns, gotta love them. I enjoy the ones where they have the big brown tourist signs up that state that THIS town was the first to have/do/host/ whatever or that it is the home of the xyz dinosaurs footprint which when you get there is a depression in the ground and bears absolutely no resemblance to any sort of foot/ hoof/ paw print you have ever seen before. Then you go to the pub and have the choice of fish and chips or hamburger and chips for your fine dining experience! Wine is something the city slickers drink and out here you want the (name brand here) beer because it is what real Aussies drink (probably because the other choice is water). Go to the Wellshot (well named) Hotel in inland north Queensland and they tell you all about the 'bullet holes' in the bar, walls and ceiling that Ned Kelly did on one of his rampages! Ned Kelly was hanged a couple of hundred years back but his bullet holes are even in the fridge!!! The ghost lives on! PW - When the DH has finished at your place, send him over to mine. Plenty he can get stuck into here. Meadow. Great that you had a good visit with the family. Buttertarts???? ahem. Gotta go. Got some work to do. It makes a change. Should keep me busy for all of 1 hour or so. |
Not much new here, except i think I loosened or lost a fillilng in a back molar eating SOUP and SALAD. How unfair is that?!! I hope it doesn't require a crown. Our insurance might put a contract out on me. :p
If you want to see a couple of photos of the teensy town you can go here More tomorrow. I hope to work in a) radiation, b) client, c) post office and d) DENTIST tomorrow. |
PW-Well that town looks like it was just made for postcards. Thanks for the peek ;)The sky makes you feel kind of serene doesn't it? Take a moment tomorrow and breathe ;) Good luck with all you have on your agenda :) Sorry about your tooth, you could have at least been eating popcorn or something, what was in that soup? ;)
Shad-OH, I'm getting excited and I'm not even going anywhere :p Shopping for a new suitcase is always fun. I usually get a duffle/sports bag and look like a tramp when I book into hotels but they are my favourite type of suitcase  Making your own sushi? wow, that will be interesting, lochs wrapped around some rice with a nice little shrimp tucked in there and a bit of spicey sauce ;) Ceejay-LOL on all your liquids! Way to go! I am doing well on the water part of the challenge, the exercise has been zip since the kids are home from school due to the strike. It has totally thrown my schedule into a loop. At least you know your neighbours are up to mischief... might come in handy if they start getting uppity down the line :p Mel-I was reading a Daily Omh today about visualization and the power of the mind to accomplish things you want for yourself in the future. Why am I not Salma Hayak with Antonio climbing through my window yet? There would have been alot fewer calories if I had been eating butterflies with whipped cream topping instead :p Holly-How are you feeling? Any relief? You like changing your rooms around too huh? I just put up a mirror and a couple of pics for the Morrocan corner of my livingroom, needs a red throw or something for over the trunk under the mirror. The kids have designated it as there new area for their keyboard and flip the rockingchair around and play. Mary had a little lamb with a funky, latin backbeat  Happy-:lol3: I've got that "bup bup bup ba ba" from that Wings tune in my head now too :p You know how prone we all are to song suggestions on here ;) All my clothes are on top of the dresser, if I put them in the closet or in a drawer I would never be able to find anything. I'm organizing challenged :yikes: Rose-Hey, nice to have you back. How does it feel to be in your own space again? Isn't it nice to just put your feet up and lounge? Teel-Hello! How are you feeling today? We miss hearing from you. I hope you are some how managing to get some sleep or at least a bit of respite from the pains. It can't be easy, take it one day at a time :) |
Good morning chick-a-dees.
Yes Mel, Go Sox! :cheer: well we can practice now, actual playoffs start on Saturday. Was looking like it would be Houston (Texas) but St. Louis pulled it out in the 9th inning to continue that series. Remains to be seen if me and Ms. Painter will be staring eye to eye :coffee2: Look out, Peppermint Mocha flavored coffee creamer is in the stores for the holidays already. Pumpkin spice too. Makes that morning coffee extra nice. Glad I'm not home anymore to drink the whole pot :hyper: Meadow I saw a trailer for a new movie - Mask of Zorro with AB and Catherine Zeta Jones - looks like the 2 have feisty chemisty, wonder if the movie will be good or cheesy. I am still humming "butterpie... butterpie" in my head too. Here's another one to try and get out of your mind today Someone's knockin' at the door somebody's ringin' the bell Someone's knockin' at the door somebody's ringin' the bell Do me a favour open the door and let'em in. Sister Suzie brother John Martin Luther Phil and Don Brother Michael auntie Gin open the door and let'em in. Yes Holly, you're right - Wings did make catchy sing along songs. Glad to hear you have an extensive vinyl record collection. Me too. I have replaced a few favorites with CDs but I probably couldn't afford to replace them all. Even got an 8-Track player up in the closet. Talk about 70's throwback. But heck, I remember the 70's fondly. My careless youth when the world was less complicated. Of course we were all drinking, smoking and dancing so what was not to like :T Painterwoman, cute little town pictures. I love the facade of the storefronts too. Nothing says small town better than that. Sounds like they are trying to appeal to the yuppies tho with antiques and a Kinkaide store. Looks like an enjoyable way to spend the afternoon none the less. Shad's all excited and can hardly contain herself it sounds. *giggle, giggle* I can feel your energy all the way over here. I tell you ladies, it's amazing how this lady packs. Of course as she said when you have to lug it around all by yourself, it teaches you how to pack efficiently. I'm sure you will greatly enjoy the make your own sushi place. Sounds like you will have a delightful trip. I'm excited for you. Kudos to you for sticking with the challenge Ceejay. You getting the hot weather too? It can't be autumn when it's 90 degrees. Ok Miss Mel, breathe and stretch. What's on the agenda today to treat yourself. Is birdy still with you? Should teach him to sit on your shoulder and sing pirate ditties. Arrrr, Ayyyyy, Eyyyyyeee. Shiver me timbers.... Time to jump in the shower and get on with the day. Cheers to all the worldly chicks. |
Happy--This is what the old timer's call Indian Summer. I'm inside most of the day so it really doesn't matter how hot or cold it gets on the outside. Just a little note from mother nature to beware of what is to come.
I know all to well what Shad means by packing and having to carry your own suit case. I've been thinking about that for my trip to Dallas. I may take my mom's big green suitcase, cause she said that we were going shopping. My small one will not be big enough and I'm thinking Christmas gifts. I'm starting my shopping early. I hate the crowds after Thanksgiving. I'm bored and I'm at work. The light office is getting better at changing the phone at 8 a.m.--One of the girls quit and rotation has taken a toll. They just had to get used to it. We got our new work shirts in yesterday, and I'm in an extra large.Yeah. I noticed last night in the grocery store that my shadow looked smaller so the exercising is diffinately paying off, I'll take inches. However, these 55 year old bones didn't want to get up this morning so I'll have to do that when I get home tonight. I've been thinking of way's to ease the burden of calorie counting. So I'm thinking that I'll start a card system with the foods I eat to equal 1500 calories. Kinda on the same principal as Richard Simmons. I'm not eating as healthy as I would like. Gotta get busy--Need to make a routine check on the plant and get started again on this manual. |
hi folks its me finally, :cp: we think we may have gotten to the prob of my wee mans unsettled ness-hes a very greedy wee lad and his poor stomach and bowel werent coping with the very sudden onslaught of so much milk ,we were told to put him on ashton and parsons powders {a herbal thingy i cant remember the name of right now???}and it seems to be working hes sleeping more and is much more settled when he does instead of roving around his moses basket so mummy is getting at least 5 hours sleep throughout the day and night :cb:  :dancer: :dancer: :woo: :woo: :woo: :grouphug: :grouphug: :faint: :faint: :cloud9: plus ive decided that he needs routine so regardless ten at night is bath time and 8 am is getting dressed time ??? i know not much of a routine but hey im trying      im still managing to breast feed but the down side is im not on any painkillers at all and really suffering badly especially as its so cold here all the time but hey ill live its for the wee man the more immunity and goodness he can get the healthier **** be so ill survive, the house is still chaos the only thing thats getting done regullarly is the washing the ironing and hanging the washing out and only because i only smoke at the back door so seem to spend loads of time in the kitchen??????? :kickcan: :blah: :rollpin: :smoking: :smoking: i know bad me but at the moment its the only sanity im getting
well i really have to go and do some ironing lol and ill speak to you all soon lots of love and brill thoughts for you all and shad just incase i dont get back before you go have a fantastic holiday and send chris all our love we all feel like we know her through you kirsty |
Morning all,
Nice to see you in Linus. It is never easy to get a newborn in and settled and keep up with everything that goes during the day. You will get there. I'm glad to hear that you are at last getting some quality sleep. Ironing - what??? Do you have to iron? Thank you for the good wishes for Chris. I will pass them along. She thinks I am a genius on the internet because I have friends in so many places (not that she doesn't but hers are through teaching mostly) that I may not have met, may not have spoken to in person but who do things like ringing Japanese hospitals for me etc. etc. When I told her of the chain I went through to get to her in the hospital, she just thought I was so clever. Actually, I wasn't me that was clever, it was Happy. Anyway, look after that wee man. I had one greedy one, he got colic for the first three months of his life - badly. I so wanted to send him back. Ceejay - Calorie counting is boring. The one thing you can have without having to count too much is green leafy vegetables. Veg have virtually no fat and no calories. Generally speaking it is what we put with the veg (butter, sauces, sour cream etc.) that makes us put the weight on. It's very difficult to gauge just how big 100g (4oz) of meat is. That's why when I buy my meat I generally buy in bulk and repack it before putting it in the freezer. That way I only have to spend one period of time measuring the portions of meat. I limit the potato per week and the starchy floury stuff, but fresh veg and fruit make up most of my diet anyway. Also I have to limit icecream. I'm an addict of good icecream. I can more or less tell you what brand and where the Ice cream comes from these days. I've eaten so much of it. Happy - go the Red Sox http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...bo1/Redsox.jpg Not sure what the sox are, what they do, or how well they do it but go the SOX anyway - we're not talking Boston Red Sox here are we???? Didn't think so. All this song singing in the threads. And what's worse I recognise most of them. Oh dear. PW - loved the pictures of the wee town. It's really nice. Looks almost like a movie set. And the sky was fantastic as well. Meadow - I suppose you could sort of say my new bag is a sports bag on wheels. It was a bit more expensive than I wanted but hey, it's also a bit bigger than I needed, but DS2 will be able to use it when he travels next year, if he travels next year. He was wanting to go to dawn service at Gallipoli in Turkey, I bet he hasn't done much about that either. Push, push, push. Anyway the mid size purple has turned into a largish midsize charcoal and red with lots of hidey holes and space etc. Anyway hello Holly  Tig  Teel  lurkers  shirkers  and anyone else I may have missed. 8 days to go. |
