Morning all,
First day back at work yesterday and did I feel it last night. Still today is Friday so I have another two days to recover over the weekend. Everytime I go away, DS2 does something for his old Mum. Last time it was the spoiler and pinstripes on the car. This time I came home to an airconditioned house. He and his mates + electrician have installed an aircon in the lounge/ diner. Tried it out last night as it was very hot and muggy. Did a bit of experimenting with fans as well. It seems to work quite well. Reduced the heat in the house by about 4 degrees within 15 minutes or so. With a fan running as well, the whole house cooled down and I could turn things off again. Darling boy - I think this is my Christmas present. Ceejay - have a wonderful trip and enjoy the time away. You've earned it and deserve it. Mel - don't know what the price tag was on it. It was developed for the Expo at Nagoya and was driven around by a robot - a robot driving a robot? - along with a whole raft of robotic 'toys' (including an robot playing a trumpet and an ITS - intelligent transport system). Some of those gadgets are now in the museum at Toyota Head Office. Speaking of the museum - in the showroom there was a range of the top end of the market Lexus models. Sports vehicles, recreational vehicles, fun vehicles, recycled vehicles etc. Yes they have a model which is similar to the Toyota People mover and which is completely made from recycled products. Looks pretty swish too. No steering wheel, instead you have a control stick similar to that of an aeroplane. Unfortunately my photo of the interior has not come out well - too much light and dazzle reflection. Linus - enjoy the movies. You sure deserve it after all this time. I'm sure Grandma will cope admirably with CJ and he may never want to come home! Tig - have I missed something?? You are building? Or is the church building?? I presume you are the project manager?? Cincinatti - oh yeah! Stick with the story, there will be a quiz at a later time!!! Today is Rememberance Day - 11.11. We stop for a minutes silence at 11.00. The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Bless them all. The city is full of uniforms this morning selling poppies for rememberance. Mel would be whizzing up and down the mall to inspect the troops. Better go get on with the day. I have 52 BW reports to write screencams and comments for today. 52!!!! How boring. |
SHAD~ I AM GOING TO COPY THE PICTURE AND SEND IT TO MY SALESMAN:rofl: :lol3: TELL HIM THIS IS THE NEXT CHAIR I WANT!! MAYBE EVEN WITH A ROBOT CHAUFFER!! IN A UNIFORM OF COURSE!! LOL GOOD TO SEE YOU HERE AND HOPE THE WEEKEND IS A GOOD ONE. ENJOY
YESTERDAY WAS ALMOST TOTALLY SILENT. I COULD GET USED TO THIS!!! A BIT CHILLY SO THERE WILL BE NO RIDES UNLESS IT WARMS UP AND THE WIND STOPS OVER THE WEEKEND. GOING TO MAKE SOME CHICKEN/VEGGIE SOUP WITH TURKEY SAUSAGE AND CHEESE FILLED TORTELLINI(SP) A COMFORT FOOD FOR THIS VWETERAN'S/REMEMBRANCE DAY AND OUR TROOPS STILL IN OTHER COUNTRIES. THINKING OF THEM AND WISHING THEIR SPEEDY RETURN. THE FOOT IS MUCH IMPROVED AND I WAS LUCKY. NO DRUGS JUST PATCHES! :bubbles: I BETTER GET THE BUTT IN GEAR IF I WANT THAT SOUP FOR DINNER. AT THIS RATE IT WILL BE TOMORROW. HAPPY FRIDAY AND HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND:moped: |
Sorry about the foot Mel. Sounds very painful. Hope you feel better. :grouphug:
Hope you enjoyed a night out to yourself Linus. |
We are a quiet bunch today. Ceejay is away meeting up with Painter. Hope they have a wonderful time. Linus is at the movies, Holly and Meadow must be snowed in and Tig is being beastly to the project crybabies. Go Tig!!!!
I see I must have been suffering brainstrain in my last posts. I've said the same thing twice. Ah well - call it jet lag. It's Saturday and therefore back to the gym shortly. I'm just on the last of the coffee and the second load of washing is spinning in the machine. I'll get that out as they are predicting rain and storms tomorrow. Then I'll get the kitchen shiny again and start on something else on the list. I raced home last night and mowed the lawns - that at least got one job out of the way. The grass is thick and lush and I had lots of clippings to lug to the recycle bin. Normally I would compost it for the garden, however there is far too much of it at the moment. *sigh* either too much or too little around here. There is no happy medium. Since it is going to rain tomorrow (by the look of it - that might actually be today) I had better get the washing out, and get stuck into the weeds and get rid of them and generally tidy up the place outside before it gets away on me. The roses could do with a prune and so could the hedge. Today looks like being an outside day. A bit of shopping as well I guess. One of Chris' Japanese friends wants some Christmas cards with Santa in shorts - actually what she asked for was Summer Santa. I'm not sure whether it is with an Australian theme or just blue skies and beach bits. So I had better go look for something today. I asked that question but it has to go through the translation bit and then a decision made, then through the translation bit again before I get some sort of an answer. Such are the joys of language. Anyway my friends, the washer has finished. Coffee is finished. I need to get out there with it. The washing that is! Back tonight. |

I just had a lovely Chai tea while catching up.
Rememberance day here too Shad. There is always a nice assembly at the school. DS loves it. Very serious about this stuff my deep thinking young man. Glad you arrived home safely and have settled in somewhat. I love that your DS surpises you with things. ENJOY that air!!! Melly Melly~ Miss Busy right back at ya!!! LOL! i am having a "lazy" week for me. LOL!! Still recouping a bit with sinus pressure. Sorry about your foot! Hope you are on the mend. Ceejay and PW~ are you having lunch? A glass of wine ?Shopping with all the done up Texans???? Tig~ habitat work!! exciting!!!!!!! Mortorcycle rides!!! Cincinatti!!! Linus~ I have so been there. Big heartfelt hugs!!! How was the movie?? HUGS to everyone!!! I just got out and raked for an hour. We had a wind storm a week ago. Lots of branches down. I sent DH for a pro massage Wed night. Life is grand. I had a delightful day yesterday. This morning was fab too. No extra kids. My angels were angels. Lots of good convo, laughter.... Of course, now I start to think is it a mistake to have all these extra kids here. But then I know without a doubt we need the income and the other choices would stink. Needless to say I loved this morning!!! DS is off to school. DD was playing house with the kitten. Yesterday rocked. 5 big kids in school , 3 little ones here. DH was home cause of weather. I left a baby with him and took the other 2 for groceries, came home made lunch put 2 down for a nap and the tube on for the other and went and got my hair colour done( kidless!!!!), came home and all the troops arrived and were fun/no conflicts!, Whipped up a light supper, hooked up the TV system up in our bedroom and watched a show, aaaaaaaahhhhh, DH jokingly accused me of hiding out, um YUPPERS!, went to book Club, we had read Clara Callan by Richard B Wright, exellent book, excellent convo, i adore this group of people!!, came home, cuddled with DH, made a few calls, got some Avon orders, tidied up a bit, put a load of wash in and watched ER at 10, put clothes in the dryer and came up to bed and read some of Letters From Earth by Mark Twain. I woke at 5:30am to the sound of Clyde being pounced on by Rainbow and sounding quite disgruntled. Went back to sleep til 7. Beautiful sunrise this morning. Brisk fresh air!! That was a lazy day Mel, Lot of down time, LOL!!! it was great and fulfilling!!! Today so far has been great too. Sunny and brisk all day.DD and 2 others all morning. We went to the playgroup. Brought home 1 extras fropm there. Played outside.Had a tea party with real china.DS is just home off the bus!! It's the weekend!!!!!!! Gymnastics tonight, farmers market tomorrow morning and hockey at 7pm. Yardwork all aft. I hope!! Have a beautiful weekend!!!!!! This is the new babe! |
The family and I went to the Rememberance Day parade in town this morning. There was about 25 Veterans, male and female marching, the Knights of Columbus bunch with their feathered hats looked too young to have been in the Second World War perhaps they were in Vietnam? There was about 10 RCMP officers in full reds in the line too. The young Girl guides with their pink flag and the Brownies followed in behind them. There was a piper in front of the Veterans and a police car. I told my girls that those were the people who fought for their freedom in front of them and to clap and give them respect.
Welcome back SHAD! hopefully you have recovered from the jet lag and are feeling cool and rested again, ready to tackle the challenges that lurk around every corner ;) I bet Chris was sorry to see you go, you both sounded to be having a wonderful time together. Mel-typical that your relief person would bail and you were left to pick up the pieces. It is awful that you had to be on the job for so long when you are in pain and the chair isn't comfortable for you. I hope you will allow yourself a rest now, how weary are you? Are you watching some good DVDs? Enjoying a beverage and letting your mind wander to sexy firefighters? There were a few at the Rememberance ceremony today, the trucks were blocking the side streets ;) Holly-little rainbow looks like a beauty! Ah for the days when kittens used to play with my toes and it didn't hurt, my cats now bite with sharp fangs :p Sorry to hear the sinuses pain is lingering, use some Vicks :D Happy-are you still working? stop it and grab your husband :p Linus-ah, the wee babe sounds like a goer! You have one of those rocking swings that lull them to sleep? Those are so cool, like having their own amusement ride. We used to have one that you wound up and it played music and ticked back and forth. Has Harry Potter brought a grin to your face? Did you manage to forget being a new mommy for those hours? How many times did you phone home? :D :lol3: Tig-does the coordinator use a hammer or one of those nailguns? Use your power to gain the fun tools ;) Habitat is a grand organization. I guess a December start date isn't as chilly where you are as it would be up here :p Rose-are you reading? Come on, you know you want to post, tell us more about your day :D :wave:Hey everybody out there in the world, what are you up to? Did you take a walk? I did :p about a mile  |
hi chicks,
I'm in Texas. Arrived late yesterday afternoon. The flight went well. My sister and I met PainterWoman for lunch and had a nice visit. She is really a nice person. Afterwards my sister and I went Christmas shopping and most of mine is finished. Yeah. I told my sis that I might have to mail it home. PainterWoman--We found the sculptures of the Texas longhorns, but we didn't find Krispy Kreme. Probably a good idea that we didn't. I'm glad that we met. |
Based on meeting CeeJay and her sister, I'd be glad to meet all of you! We had lots of laughs, promised not to divulge what any of us ate, and were slightly astonished at our far flung friends. Of course, I'd re-located Hollyhock to South Texas somehow, but I stand corrected. :?:
(The Krispy Kreme visit was NOT my idea. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.) Ceejay-- you still have time to find it tomorrow!! IF. YOU. DARE. :p :p My radiation treatments are beginning to make me feel "cooked." I've got some burns under "Thelma" that were finally annoying enough that I asked the MD for some relief. I got a Rx for some sulfa cream which seems to be helping... and he told me to go braless. Easy for HIM to say. Boing. Boing. Boing. :carrot: :carrot: :carrot: Mel- How's your foot? Owie. I couldn't tell if you were happy or not that the Dem's took the state. Apparently both candidates were pretty nasty!. I talked to my ex-MIL yesterday (she and I stayed friends)... and she said her son is all in the newspapers because he's the attorney for some 3rd party group that actually won in their township near Atlantic City. Last time one of the "family' was in the paper they'd accused her husband of embezzling from the prison (where he was the business manager.) Her sister in law called at 6 am asking "If you needed money, why didn't you call me?" Turned out a prisoner was mad at Pops and called the NewsPaper... which DIDN'T CHECK OUT THE STORY. Linus-- Glad CJ has seen the light. My DD almost got left on the front porch for trash pickup before she learned to sleep through the night. Hope you love the HP movie.... Are you actually in Edinborough SCOTLAND? or someplace else. I remember talking to a woman about Aberdeen... and it turned out there are about three military bases, IN THE US, that she was talking about.... rather than Scotland. :D Shad- sounds like you have it made in the shade. Give your DS2 a big hug from all us mothers who appreciate kind offspring. And give yourself a pat on the back for raising such a generous, hardworking, enterprising man!! Hollyhock-- Glad I've relocated you to Ontario! I need to post a Canada map over my monitor.... You'd think that I could learn the states when there aren't 50 of them! It sounds like you were a real whiz with kids, supper etc. I read Clara Callan a while back... liked it a lot... I think there's another book by Wright, too... can't remember the name. It reminded me a big of some of Anne Tyler's books... especially Ladder of Years. Meadow... to my knowledge we didn't have any Veteran's Day parades here... but one of the local high schools decorated their entry way. I'll post some photos onmy site I haven't figured out how to post anything bigger than a postage stamp here. TGIF, y'all. |
How fabulous that PainterWoman and Ceejay met, face to face and got along!! I have always wondered how that would go. My husband has forbidden me to meet any people I talk to on line. I suspect he thinks I'm going to have a rendezvous with Antonio or something :p
PW-you can put a pic up here by making an account at Photobucket.com like I have which is free, then you can upload pics from your computer there and have a hyper link url like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...purplehaze.jpg or you can put the link to the pic on here by clicking on the pic image icon in the box above the message area and it will put them in for you. They look like this if you can remember you can just put them in yourself :) Try it a couple of times, it really is quite easy. *extremely large images posted here are frowned upon because they stretch the message boxes so I just post the link and allow people to travel to my photobucket site to view my HUGE AB ART ATTACKS :lol3: |

DIDN'T TAKE NOTES. :write: NEVER GOT TO THE SOUP CAUSE EVERYTHING WAS STILL IN THE FREEZER! SO COOKING TODAY IS ON THE AGENDA. PRETTY COLD YET SO INDOOR SPORTS FOR TODAY I THINK. ONE MAINT. MAN IS ON VACATION FOR 3 WEEKS. THE ONE FILLING IN SEEMS TO THINK THAT ON HOLIDAYS/WEEKENDS, NO ONE WILL NOTICE IF HE SLACKS OFF...WRONG! WASHERS BREAKING AND GARBAGE PILED UP TO THE SECOND FLOOR INSIDE THE GARBAGE CHUTE. GAVE HIM A FAST WAKE-UP CALL DID OUR MELLIE MEL. :drill: :tantrum: I AM SURE I MADE HIS DAY A BIT BRIGHTER! :flow2: :lol3: :lol3: OTHER THAN THAT ALL IS WELL ON MELIDAY ISLAND. :beach: HAPPY SATURDAY/SUNDAY AND HOPE THE DAY IS A GREAT ONE! :moped: |
HAPPY~ THANKS!!! foot is good! but WHERE IS THE REST OF YOUR POST!
|
Sunny Saturday!!
Been to market. Took lots of orders and handed out books. Brought home a homemade lamb stew, YUM!!! I think I will go out with hubby and do some more raking and yard work and then in for some tidying.Hockey at 7pm. Food was good for half of yesterday, sigh. I really do like to nibble at things. Time for a tea and some raking. Happy Fall Saturday ladies! |
I can relate to the nibble bit Holly. Sometimes it is all too much. I really need some of LindaT's discipline. I'll be good during the week. Then at the weekend when I do the shopping I have to nibble at all the things I buy. I can't just stick them all in the freezer straight off, and it seems I can't just put them away either. *sigh*. Sounds like you did well at the market. Good on ya!
Painter - do you have any aloe vera growing in your garden? It is magnificent for burns of any description. I just cut a leaf off, skin one side of it and take the thorny bits off the edges and lay it on the sore spots. It clears them up in hours not days. In places like chaffing on the legs or under the boobs I simply wrap it in a piece of muslin cloth (sp) and tuck it in the bra, then adjust to fit. Every so often you gently rub it around to move the juicy gel. I swear it is better than any prescribed goo and doesn't stain either. I'm so glad to hear that the visit went so well. Always a bit of a risk meeting people you have never seen before, but hey we know each other fairly well on this thread. I'd be happy to meet up with everyone of us. Indeed I have met two! So what did you say about all of us - well Holly we know about - you relocated her back to her beloved Ontario, Canada! Inquiring minds need to know these things. Talking about Canada - I have to admit that I didn't know all the States/ Provinces of Canada either until I stumbled across an interactive map on the internet one day. Then when the computer told me I was completely dumb about where everything was, I had to learn. Same with the States. I am not good on where the midwestern states are located. Find a map and learn 'em. Everyone knows Texas but where is Wyoming?? Meadow :lol3: :lol3: on the rendezvous with Antonio. Would the DH forbid you meeting up with women as well??? Mel - The aircon is big enough that if I shut off all the unnecessary rooms (laundry, bath etc) then it will cool the entire house. I've used it twice and it has dropped the temp inside by 5 degrees in a matter of minutes. Just don't sit under it or you will be iced over! I've not yet worked out how to set the timer - if all else fails I may read the destruction - sorry instruction - manual. Where is that Teel??? Do I have to ring her again? Just looked at my watch and it is too late now. Yesterday was busy - I went out in the garden very early. Weeded and dug and weeded some more. Dug up a couple of onions for my salads this week. The strawberries are going well and putting out runners. However the ants and birds are getting to the fruit before I do - something will have to be done about that. Then I went to the gym to do my Body Balance class only it has been cancelled this week and next week because of training and renovations to the club. So I did weights and resistance. Felt a bit stiff this morning, only to be expected as I have done any for nearly two weeks. Did umpteen loads of laundry while the weather was good. Still have another two or three to go which I must go and get on to shortly. Then did the shopping and rung my DB1 back after the message on the answer machine. Might have known he wanted some computer help. I have promised to go there today after gym. Then I took a siesta on the couch at lunch time and watched a bit of tv. Later I went back to the garden and weeded some more. Cooked a scrummy salmon fillet for dinner and ate it with a spinach salad. Very nice. This morning I woke up with a very sore nose and ear. Got up and got some water and wandered over to the couch and watched the All Blacks play footy against Ireland. Felt sorry for the Irish, there was nothing they could do to stop the onslaught. By the time that finished it was daylight again so I got changed and went outside and did some more weeding, pruning and digging. This type of weather makes everything grow fast. I still have to finish pruning the roses, clip the lavendar right back and weed the last of the vege patch before I move around to the front and side yards to start there. However, it is too hot to do much more at the moment (and it is only 7.30am) so I will get ready and go to the gym, come home, shower and go to the DB1's house. Then come back and finish the housework. Only a couple of rooms to go there. If the rain holds off long enough I may get to finish the washing off and hang it out. Otherwise it will wait for later in the week. Puss cat is doing an impression of the Sphinx here. I am getting the message that she wants something! However she is feed, watered and on my bed, what the heck else does she need? Very demanding cat this one. Okay, I've rambled long enough. Time to move along. |
I'm taking another break. Didn't sleep well last night so I took a nap while sis and bil watched the foot ball games. This morning my sis and I did some gardening by the swimming pool. We got a lot accomplished. My bil was impressed that I could use a saw. I laughed to myself when he was struggling. We cut off some branches that was beginning to come out over the pool. It's supposed to rain tonight. This part of Texas really needs it.
Painterwoman--Sorry to hear that you are in discomfort. Is there anything I can do while I'm here? I'll vouch for you that it was not your idea that we go to Krispy Kreme. It's just sis and I tonight and right now she is talking to her son that lives in Houston. Bil has a meeting. Mel-I think I missed you post as to what happened to you foot. Meadow--I hear about internet friends meeting all the time. But the ones that go wrong are men verses women from the dating rooms. Shad I think it would be fun to meet. Holly and Meadow Hello:wave: |
Thelma thanks you for your concern. I haven't tried "organic" or from-the-yard aloe, but the gel in a bottle didn't make much of a dent. The suladiazine (or something) seems to be helping. Extra water seems to help too!
Off to see if I can maintain a planned eating day. |
I have waaay too much news, but for quick news....
We are going on a Bikers for Babies March of Dimes ride tomorrow. I am very excited. It is a long ride, at least for me. 74 miles, police escorted. Yes, Mellie. UNIFORMED motorcycle police officers. Someone check her pulse. I had a good run this morning. The best time I've had in a long time. The dropping temps and humidity are really helping my speed! :dancer: |
Tig-- that is a LOT of miles. I hope you'll have something SOFT to sit on when you are through! Are any of the Police Escorts going to be bicycling, too?
|
Something soft to sit on when she is through!!!!  :lol3: Dang it all, what about something soft to sit on for 74 miles.
End of a good weekend here. I've been busy but have had plenty of time to rest as well which is good. After waking up early this morning and staying up, I've lasted quite well I think. Been to the brother's place. Fixed his computer and his phone. Went around his garden and he gave me a couple of orchids which I very carefully left there! Silly me. Anyway then I went shopping for some Australiana trype Christmas cards for a lady in Japan and then came home and watched a couple of tv programs and read the paper. Early bed tonight I think. So that's my weekend done and dusted. I have a pile of washing to fold and some to iron. I really need to sort out my wardrobe some more. No room for anything in there. But I'd better go sort out something easy for tea. See ya. Happy, time to pop in for a  |
It's not a bicycle - it's a motorcycle. And it's not really about the tushy being comfy, depending on the style of "bike" it's all about the legs. DH's current bike is a touring bike (an Ultra Classic), is so comfy for the passenger that you can actually fall asleep in the seat. His last bike (a Softail Classic) you were crouched into a position that after a while your knees and legs would start screaming - kind of like riding a horse where they adjust the leg straps too short. And you are resting on the "butt bones" come to think of it so maybe that could be a bit painful. I don't remember what kind of bike Slim has.
I had a ephiphany this week and I will probably join the ranks of the weekend posters going forward. I've been in alot of pain recently. All the time. So much so that I can truly understand how people who are in pain get despondent. Just when I start to feel better, something else goes out. There's no denying that carrying all this extra weight is contributing to it. As for my ephiphany moment. Earlier this week I was woken up at 5am by the sound of cats screeching. There is a big ole cat that comes roaming around and torments little bitty adopted kitty of ours who sleeps on the porch. I got up to shoo the bully away. It wasn't worth going back to bed for less than an hour so I was thinking what should I do - first thought in my head was - you can EXERCISE deary. Second thought - you can get an early start on your day - get to work early for a change instead of running in at that last minute. Did I do either of those? I made a coffee and sat down in front of the computer as I usually do. It was kind of quiet here so I looked through the journals and a bunch of other threads. Next thing I know it's 6:40 and I accomplished nothing now I'm late getting ready for work. And it became very apparent that I had a perfect chance to start early - no promises of I'll get up early tomorrow - I WAS up early and I wasted it. So I realized I just have to give up this computer habit (and the sitting in front of the TV) to focus on what's important. One of my friends at work asked me if I wanted to join a gym with her - she's really into fitness and was looking for a workout buddy. The gym turned out to be more than she could afford and I have a treadmill, stepper, LifeCycle (bike), assorted free weights, stretchy bands, mini trampoline. Health Rider and ab roller. Pool is closed for the season but looks like I have my own gym in the comforts of my home. So we decided that we're going to work out here and head over to work early. That means getting up at 5am now which I would rather do than work out after work. 3 times a week. We started on Wednesday. I discovered my treadmill is broken :( but that's getting repaired tomorrow. There were plenty of other things to do. P is a good trainer - she makes you do weight reps until you get the scrunchy face and then she makes you do 5 more until you can't lift your arm anymore. :drill: Getting up this early makes me tired and off to bed by 10pm which is another good thing and also cuts out the evening computer time. This was probably the kicker I needed as I got on the scale and was down THREE pounds this week. I could have said 4 but that would be stretching it and we have to allow for a bit of fluctuations. Needless to say I was thrilled and motivated and it solidified my committment. Yesterday was 5 hours of heavy yard work, sweeping, raking, bending, stretching, toting. My knee is a bit sore today and it's rainy today so a good day to stay in and catch up on house cleaning and laundry. The conditions down here give me a brutal sinus headache just about every day. I hate taking meds but I have no choice - it just doesn't do any good to try and tough it out because the headache doesn't go away by itself. My BIL got his vacation time approved which means sister, family and my mom are driving down for the Thanksgiving holiday.   I am thrilled. That also means I get to take a week's vacation.  And my vacation will start this Friday since I get 2 "free" days off for the holiday on Thursday and Friday. :carrot: I have a tiny refrigerator - it's one of those compact space ones that isn't supposed to jut past the counter but I hate it with a passion. It's too small / shallow and it's in the stainless steel high maintenance impossible to clean who invented this stupid finish anyway? It's only 2 years old so I'm not about to replace it. However if I put the turkey in there for Thanksgiving dinner there's not room for much of anything else. I begged DH to get another small refrigerator that we can put out in the garage - with no basement there's no other place to put it unless I start knocking the pantry out of the laundry room and that's not going to happen. We worked hard all day yesterday, got cleaned up, had a nice dinner and went refrigerator shopping. Lo and behold the salesman tells us that they don't recommend putting refrigerators in garages - the extremes in temperatures are hard on the compressors that try to keep the inside temperature even, particularly with the freezer section. Sad face on me :( BUT he says, they make an all refrigerator unit (no freezer) that IS suitable for garage use. Even says so on the card. A bit more than I wanted to pay but it does use less electricity because there is no freezer so in the long run it's cheaper. Also cheaper if it doesn't blow itself up over the summer sitting in a hot garage :) So now come Tuesday I will have an extra refrigerator. Happy dance. When I had visitors in the summer, we had to use 2 extra coolers to store drinks and stuff. For one week's time that actually cost alot more in ice than you would have thought. DH has the dining room all freshly painted and we will use our dining room furniture for the first time since we bought it almost a year ago. Can you tell I'm REALLY excited about this? I'm sure by now I wrote a book, it probably won't load when I hit submit. So I'd better cut this short. Laundry awaits me. Love to all the chicks... |
Not much news here. Sis and bil are watching foot ball games--He keeps switching from one to the other and that literally gets on my nerves.
Vacation is drawing to an end. sigh!!! I'll be flying home in the mornin, but Thanksgiving week end I'll be headed to Missouri. Yeah. Another week end to look forward to. I wasn't going to count the gardening that I did yesterday as exercise. I'm sore in area's that haven't been used as much. |

Almost time for a new home again. My word we are a chatty lot are we not?
Happy, I can relate to your tale of woe and wasted time. I now put the egg timer on the desk and allow myself 15 minutes of reading in the morning. I can look at the threads during working hours so that is quite fortunate. At night I have 30 minutes to update and chat on the threads. I usually do that as my dinner is cooking - I get good exercise going from one end of the house to the other. Good going on the 3 pounds down. That is amazing. Keep it going. I really hear you on the early workouts. So much better than trying to fit in around 5ish when you are tired of work and have to put up with the $#@^$ twits as well. Sounds like P is a relation to Jason the torturer and the long lost Sam the sadist. I need someone like that to boot my booty from time to time too. We probably all do. Won't it be great to have the family around for Thanksgiving. Plan it carefully and enjoy every moment of it. Umm for the stainless steel, I got a beautiful, bright shiny (and matt bits) stainless steel shower mixer in the bathroom. To my disgust the left on water drops caused marks (just what does the stainless bit in stainless steel mean anyway?) However I spoke to a lady at the plumbing shop and she recommended a sort of liquid paste for cleaning baths and sinks etc. I found something at half the price in the grocery store and used that and it is really good. Only need to use it about once a month and it wipes off all the marks. The first time you have to rub a bit, but it is easy after that. I think mine is called Stainless Power Clean or something similar. There were lots of varieties available. Maybe try one of those on the fridge. Ceejay - aaah the joys of the man and his remote control. It's a worldwide phenomonem apparently and drives just about every woman crazy - except when she is doing it herself no doubt. Glad you have had a good holiday. Breaks like that are really invigorating. Hope there is not too much to do when you go back to work. Mel - Upstairs/ Downstairs, Are you being Served, Monarch of the Glen, Keeping up Appearances and all those wonderful old Brit programs. What a bunch of laughs I have had out of many of those from time to time. Did you ever see any of the 'Thin Blue Line' with Rowan Atkinson? I didn't like Mr Bean, but Thin Blue Line was hilarious. Then of course there was Yes Minister - who could forget that. Your place in the house is ready - You just have to fall out of the chair and into the sofa bed. Aircon will have to stay on for you cool chicks. Well I had best go get ready for my class. Yes I have something to do today. Yeehaa, almost made it worth getting out of bed this morning. |
SURPRISE I AM BACK. :encore:
FIRST OF ALL CONGRATS ON THE 3 LBS HAPPY!! I MISSED THAT TIDBIT! SHAD~ I MUST WATCH THE THIN BLUE LINE THEN WHEN I SEE IT ON. NOT A ROWAN FAN MYSELF BUT I'LL GIVE IT A GO. I ALSO LOVE TO THE MANOR BORN! THERE ARE OTHERS BUT THE NAMES EsCAPE ME. HAPPY MONDAY! :carrot: I CAME BACK TO SAY MY SOUP WAS EVEN BETTER TONITE. ALL I DID WAS SAUTE SOME CHICKEN BREASTS, TURKEY SAUSAGE CUT UP AND AN ONION. ADDED CHICKEN STOCK AND CANNED WHOLE PLUM TOMATOES CUT UP AND A BIT OF THEIR JUICES. GREEN PEPPERS, CARROTS, SWEET POTATOES, CELERY WERE ADDED AND THE FOLLOWING SPICES~ (I ONLY HAD DRIED/GROUND): CUMIN CORIANDER CURRY TUMERIC MUSTARD GINGER GARLIC SALT AND PEPPER I USED ONLY ABOUT 1/2 TEASPOON CAUSE OF THE FACE BUT IT WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD. THE CHICKEN REALLY ABSORBS THE SPICES OVERNIGHT. NICE TASTE! JUST THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE IT AND IT WAS EASY TO CUT AND TOSS IT ALL INTO ONE POT AND COOK TILL TATERS ARE TENDER. YUM!!! THE VEGGIE COMBINATIONS ARE ENDLESS OF COURSE AND I WILL USE THESE SPICES AGAIN. MAYBE A BIT MORE CURRY! HAVE A NICE NIGHT/DAY :drive: |
Details About The Ride
Two solid hours of riding. It was a different ride. It was a ride for miles rather than a relaxing ride to enjoy the scenary. There were a couple of guys in front of us who peeled off at one of our favorite Biker Bars at a midway point for a beer. We actually didn't blame them.
It was very exciting. 700 registered bikes. We were close to the front but we couldn't see the leaders. When we got to the finish and were on the overpass, I couldn't see the end behind us. It must have been something to see from start to finish. My poor tired bottom appreciated getting to the End of the Ride, so to speak. I think I heard that the total raised for the March of Dimes was close to $30,000. Very successful. Slim's bike is a Harley-Davidson Sportster. Not necessarily the bike thought of for two to ride on, but we love to ride! |
I thought I posted and then I popped in and I have missed tons!!
It has been a lovely weekend for me. Nighty night!! |
Since I have a DVD player now, I had to buy a couple of WATP DVDs to go with it :P I will have the Abs one and the 4mile one because I'm worth it ;) We shall see if I think I'm worth the sweat and energy to follow them too... but I think I may not be as averse to the exercise stuff, it really does help the numbers go down and then I drink more water, things seem to fall into place once the muscles get stronger.
Mel-just let me know when you are ready for the "Thomas and Sarah" discs, they were two of my favourite characters on Upstairs, Downstairs, the young Mr. Danby and Rose too. I started to salivate at the soup/chicken recipe, tummers  Shad-Is it your body balance class you were heading off to? How is that? Do you like doing stuff in a class? I am a solo exerciser, I don't like hearing other people grunting and huffing, I'm a lone red faced sweat dripper :^: Happy-ah, so you will not be joining us as often? I hope you will be chatty when you do post on the weekends, I really enjoy hearing about your yard and the visitors and everything. Congratulations on your pounds vaporizing, good work! Continued good energy, enjoy the sunrises :D Holly-so you were a busy bee this weekend and forgot about us huh?! How about some details? What did you do that made you laugh? Where did you go that gave you a pleasant memory to cherish? Tig-that is an amazing accomplishment for the March of Dimes, beats knocking door to door for the necessary funds and gives everyone involved a lift to be doing something useful. I hope you got a warm bath in to soak those sore tushy areas ;) Ceejay-So were there donuts consumed during this trip? I've heard tales about those Crispy Creme things, can't imagine them holding a candle to Tim Horton's sourcream donuts but there are new calories discovered everyday :p  good job on the gardening, nothing like chopping off tree limbs to bring out the Xena, Warrior Princess, did you do a big yell as they fell? PW-how goes it? Have you been creating? Painting, knitting? How are you feeling? I hope things are improving and you are taking care :) |
Not much to report here...
have been following MD's advice to go braless... Not a great idea at my size... but it does help minimize chafing. I did put on underwear, etc. to go to a baby shower for a co-worker this afternoon. They applauded the fringed coat set... amazing how rare anything 'handmade" seems to be these days. I ought to stay away from the computer like Happy.. but ... but..... BIG BUTT :carrot: :carrot: :carrot: :( There was a "sympathetic" program on the news tonight about anorexia. Is it my imagination or is no one "sympathetic" about compulsive eaters like me. Yeah, I'm feeling whiny. I know better. Maybe I'll just go to bed. We are supposed to get some cool weather finally by mid week. It's hard to think of holidays (here in the N. Hemisphere, anyway) when it is still 85 degrees. Best to all. |
So I'm going to try Shad's 10 minute thing... whoosh - never saw the clock hands fly by so fast
PW - your comment about sympathy for the compulsive eater. Interesting point - yes bulimics and anorexics are recognized as a mental issues but for over eaters I think it will be always be viewed as we are just weak willed and lazy. Secretly I think they don't want to find a "cure" because the diet industry after all is a billion dollar industry. What will we spend our money on if we're all skinny and at goal? Have you tried a soft all cotton bra - somewhat like the material of a sports bra? Not much support but easier than some of the other fabrics. Meadow - yes you DESERVE those new videos to go with your new DVD player. I think I have the 4 Mile WATP but not the ABs one. It gets you up and moving even if you have to drone out Leslie's voice after a while. You go girl, get those muscles long and strong! Tig, 74 miles on a Sportster? :?: Ouch, that would be kind of tough - indeed that one's more of a short pleasure rider bike. Good you made your goal. Oooh Mel the soup sounds yummy :hungry: I may try it with left over turkey next week instead of the chicken breasts. Thanks for sharing the recipe - always interested in something new. New smilie Mel, just for you - Thanks for the tip on the stainless Shad - truer words about the "just what's so STAINless" were never spoken  I have some spray cleaner that just streaked all over. The man at the store recommended a paste also, just like you. Will have to look for that. Ceejay - I think the remote control is the worst invention in the history of the world for exactly the reason you state - my DH sits there with his finger crooked over the remote, ready to flip at an instant. Many times I've threatened to hide the remote and sometimes I just left the room because it makes me batty. Well my 10 minutes is up - more like 13 - so as Tig would say - gotta run. Hellos to Holly and the rest of the chicks - missing and otherwise. Come check out the new place soon. Nothing cold Shad - that's all I ask. |
Morning all,
Happy, good to see you posting. My entire morning is devoted to 10 minute sessions. 10 to get showered and shampooed, 10 to get dressed, 10 to make the lunch and breakfast, 10 -15 on the computer, 10 to hang out washing or fold washing etc etc etc. I'm just the ten minute kid. PW - Probably the reason that it seems that no one cares about the compulsive eaters is as happy says - they are weak and lazy. They don't suffer much from problems until the obesity gets totally out of control - then diabetes, cancers, knees and feet problems etc. start to appear. In actual fact the medical system is totally overloaded with the problems caused by obesity and smoking, not anorexia or bulemia, yet they get the headlines and the hospital beds. Maybe the dollar sign is the key. If you are not eating then you aren't spending either. Meadow - I enjoy my body balance class. It is a mixture of Tai Chi, Yoga and Pilates. It has given me back a lot more flexibility and possible a bit of strength as well. And the breathing parts of it are really good. I can apply that to other training aspects as well as normal daily life. Yep it is good. And no I only go on Saturday mornings. I missed workout last night because there was a bomb threat on the Brisbane Transport system. We all got evacuated out of the buses, trains and ferries for an hours or so. By the time I got back to the car, it was full swing with the kids at the gym. I'll go tonight. Part of my challenge is 5 days at the gym and I now have 4 days left to do three gym sessions. When I got off the train and went off the station, I rung the DB2 to ask if he was on his way home from work, however he was already home. So I rung the DS2 who said he had 2 bolts to put in a bumper and then he was bolting out the door and yes he would pick me up and dump me at the car. Good lad that. So I did actually get home before all the people were allowed back on the trains again and the trains were running once more. Tig - well done on the ride and for helping to raise so much money. You're right it must have been a great sight to see all those bikes and bikers hightailing it along the roads. We've picked Mel up. She's got past the swooning stage now. Mel, that soup does sound really good. May have to have a go at that myself. Will be a good thing to come home to after a rough spin at the gym. Better go see if there is any work for me today. Catch you all. |
Meadow--Unfortunately I had to wait till I got home to have that Krispy Kreme. We couldn't find the factory that made them so the rest was wishful thinking.
Happy--good for you on loosing those 3 pounds. Mel-I borrowed a couple of movies from my sis to watch, one is Zorro, and a book to read. They are both avid readers. Guess now is a good of time as any to get that new dvd player. My vhs player is fried. We got paid Friday but I was in Dallas so I picked up my paycheck when I got back into town. The Mayor asked why I was not at work and told him that I just got back from Dallas. He asked if I were afraid to fly and told him no except today was a little bumpy. When I was leaving Tim drove up and asked if Ed had called me. So he gave me a note that was in his box. Why can't this silly insurance company look on there websight and see that I changed my address. When I called them they couldn't find me in the system. Now I have to contact the human resource person. Da, I just gave that information to her last Thursday morning before I left. They have been paying my doctor bills. Got to do some laundry and take a bath before the storm hits. Our area is under a tornado watch until 9 a.m. We need the rain but I hate the storms. ello to shad and holly. |
They just cancelled the tornado watch for our area - hopefully they did for you also Ceejay. Supposed to be a nasty day tomorrow with strong winds and large hail. Was going to have DH drive me to work and stow the car in the garage during the day but then I realized that we can't fit the cars in the garage yet - still some boxes to unpack :o . New fridge is coming tomorrow. Any bets the hail will be at it's worse when they are pulling it off the truck? :rain: :yikes:
Krispy Kremes donuts are deadly. And you can get them in the grocery store - if you nuke them in the microwave for 10 seconds, they are just like fresh out of the oven. :sssh: I didn't really tell you that :tape: We have one Krispy Kreme donut shop down here - it looks like one of the originals as the building looks quite old. Can't say I've been there yet. And I tell myself no each time I pass it. And Meadow I have heard the yum yum stories of Tim Horton's - thanks for the warning. I would have a hard time resisting the sour creams. Ummm drooling about the thought of them now. Think I can trick myself into thinking a fruit cup tastes like a sour cream donut? :lol3: The circuit board died on the treadmill. Do you have the receipt they asked - parts are still under warranty. Receipt :chin: um :?: well yes we have a receipt BUT which of the 30 or so yet unpacked boxes is it in? :dizzy: Oh please Mr. Precor man, don't you have records of our purchase  Have you ever moved? From a house that you were in for 22 years? Across 3 states? :dunno: Ok, so have the FixIt people call you? :callme: Oh bless you :thanks: So it will be about a week before it gets fixed. We hope. :crossed: until then it's the dastardly bike :ebike: Man I hate the bike. But I will not let the bike conquer me. So I did the bike and upper body weights :workout: and abs while DH took his evening stroll outside. :dancer: Although I didn't have my coach with me (she was sick with a migraine), I did do my reps to muscle failure :wl: at one point I scrunched my face so hard getting those last reps in that when I opened my eyes, they were blurry for a few minutes. Shad that body balance class sounds very interesting. I didn't realize it has Tai Chi in it. All about muscle control, smooth, calming movements. Sounds like an enjoyable class. I'm glad to see you've gotten into the gym habit. Guess that was a pretty good gift from the DS, wasn't it. And you do look quite amazing in your last pics despite your frustration with those last 4 pounds or so. You could kick my butt or run me down the length of Tennessee lady  Scary thing about the train evacuation. Do your trains run underground or above ground? I was glad to have my mum in the city - there were a few times that the trains got messed up, she was my ace in the hole if I couldn't get home. Once we had a freak accident when someone accidently drove a piling into the underground freight tunnels and the Chicago River quickly flooded those tunnels along with the subway train tunnels. The city trains run underground and they obviously could not run this time. People were panicking. They didn't know how to get home? I could not believe that people would live in an area and never learn the bus routes? Was inconceivable to me to only rely on one mode / way of transportation. Thankfully you got a ride and weren't stuck for hours in the crowds. Was it a false alarm then? Stupid people don't realize that they could kill innocent people in a panic. Here I believe it's a felony to do something like that. I am a bit concerned. Our adopted kitty has not shown up this evening. Usually she is up at dawn and quite content to roam the yards and be a young, free range kitty. She comes back at sunset to chow down and bed down for the night. Last night we even bought her a cat bed which she looked to be downright comfy in. It's 8:30, long after dark and there's no sign of her. The feral cat came by for a second feeding and what he didn't eat, Rocky the Raccoon came to finish. I guess DH was in a good mood as he let the Raccoon finish the food off. I sure hope she turns up before bedtime. :( Well that's all the news that's fit to print. DH did the supper dishes, guess I have no excuse not to go and mop the kitchen floor now. One good turn deserves another :D  to the chickies of the world |
until then it's the dastardly bike :ebike:
Oh how I agree with that statement. And the rowing machine! Oh yes they were hoax calls and it brought the city to a standstill - Buses, trains and ferries. There is a fairly harsh penalty for doing it but first you gotta get caught. Only the inner city (Commercial Business District) is underground. Rest is above ground. We got put off the train at a little wayside stop and told to go to the car park at least. There was a convenience store across the road with a couple of tables and chairs. There were a couple of older people who sat down at the tables and were asked to move by the owner since they weren't buying anything. I could have punched him in the nose. So we all moved over to the other corner and we found a fence for the oldies to sit on. The owner came out and offered them a seat in the shade and a cool drink. Bit different from the shop. Sincerely hope the shop goes out of business. I must admit that I didn't see anyone getting anything from the shop. Word must have got around! Fair go. Back to work. |
Glad to hear that all are safe... from storms, bomb threats and Krispy Kremes... (I can't believe you coldn't find it, CeeJay... though your sister is pretty svelte... she might have been holding out on you, you think?)
We are supposed to get a cold front in (finally) tomorrow.... Cold, as in 60's for a high... PERFECT for November!! Tig-- I'm so glad the mileage was on a MOTOR-cycle not bike-bike... I spent a fair amount of time with my fanny on both kinds of seats in the past. Motor cycle seats are definitately comfier. Shad, you class sounds great! I am SO out of touch with my balance. (Had to read yours and Happy's comments twice to make sure you weren't calling ME weak and lazy..... think I have a chip on my shoulder...? Or might be just a little defensive? D'oh!!) Here's to a good week. |
Well I did use the term "we" which was not intended to be a reflection on you or anyone besides myself for that matter. :o No disrespect intended. But my point still stands that people look at those who are overweight and figure that it's all completely and totally our own doing.
Maybe I should just stay on the Zyban forever - it made everything taste and smell yucky and it's amazing how much less you eat when the food is just so-so. Speaking of Zyban it's been over a year and a half since I quit smoking. Hard to believe. I'm just about at the point where I forgot how to smoke tho my addictive brain still sometimes tells me I still want it. Most probably just because I can't have it. 17,194 cigarettes not smoked (since I quit) - that's alot of butts. Today when I was huffing and puffing after the blasted exercise bike, I was surprised my chest hurt so much. Of course I recovered quickly and thought to myself that I probably wouldn't be able to do 2 minutes if I was still smoking. Do non smokers get burning lungs or only when they sprint? Kitty is still missing :( :( Crossing my fingers for you Ceejay - bad weather all north and west of us - up your way. Hoping you have a calm night. |
Just woke up and I need a nap.
I got everything done yesterday but the bathroom. It was a good day and volunteering in DD’s class was dreamy.Hockey was okay. I ended up with a splitting headache after. I think from the weather system that is here today. DH was home and making himself a sandwich for his supper. He didn’t remember where we were. I asked him to do sandwiches for everyone and he gladly did(exciting). Grilled cheese and tomato soup. I cut up some orange pepper. DD kept asking, why is Daddy making supper. She was quite worried about it. I dont think they have ever seen this phenomenon before. Food and water was good. The missing part is obviously extra exercise. I honestly dont where to fit it in. I am tired today. There is lots to do. A quiet day with daycare for a Tuesday but a crazy busy evening. DS has hockey pictures at 5 and then then we are going to the literacy program at the school at 6:30. I will pack a picnic supper for in the van whilst travelling between. Since it is a rainy day I might just putter at cleaning and put away fall decoratons and put out some Christmas ones for this Sunday. I want it to be nice and festive and I am not really getting the time. I need Martha’s team to delegate to!!! I need to decide on side dishes for the turkey dinner. Any ideas?? These are simple folk. One year I made homemade creamed corn and they were horrified. LOL! Needing a hug today chicks and a blast of energy. |
More awake now. DS is off to school.Need to prioritize.
Today I will~ 1)eat breaky, 2)clear out/tidy diningroom, put leaf in table and see how many chairs will fit.I think 10. We have 12 for sure for dinner maybe 14. 3) file/tidy office&organize Avon paper work. 4)take down fall decoration and put away! 5) call both SIL’s to confirm things for Sunday. Okay that is a start. feel better already. Oops~ 6)clean up kitchen 7) buy a few groceries 8)pick up mirror for upstairs bathroom at thriftshop. Ongoing~ feed and entertain a house full of children!!! LOL! Meadow~ You asked~ These are some exerpts from the weekend journals. My days are so full that I really do live one day at a time. I live in the moment. I do plan my day 1 day ahead. I put everything on my calendar sometimes hour by hour. So yesterday I realized it was Nov 13 and we are having hubby’s family here for Christmas dinner next Sunday on the 20th. It really crept up on me. So today i will plan the meal and delegate side dishes. Hubby’s folks will pay for the turkey. I want to decorate for Christmas to make it festive. We dont do gifts but it should still feel like Christmas. This will be the first year we are not all together right at Christmas. Thanksgiving was good just the 4 of us here and we will only spend an afternoon at my Sis’s christmas day. I am loving this!!! I still have residual anger towards my aunt. With any other person I would try and work it out but I have learned that in the past when I thought we had had good open convo about things it was a a lie and manipulation on her part so there is no point. I actually donated gifts she has given me in the last few years to the playschool silent auction. Every time I looked at them I cringed at the duplicity they were given with.Hopefully they will raise a lot of money. A pefect Saturday. it was sunny and breezy and cool. I had a great morning at the market. I came home and had a yummy lunch. Hubby and I did yard work together. I love that.Kinda turns me on LOL! The kids stayed in jammies til supper and watched cartoons and coloured and played with the kitties. I went into town for an errand and the grocery store had beautiful halloween costumes on special for $4/reg over $20. I bought kitty and puppy costumes for dress up. And makeup kits for 44 cents. What a blast. Very exciting!!! We had a quick supper, DD went next door and then we went to hockey. I took 2 Avon orders there.giggle. I watched all the decorating shows onTLC ( love their Sat night) and folded laundry and tidied up. This aft i will clean. We have church this morning. Hubby and the kids are going skating at 2. I really want to go watch but also have tons to do here. I like to skate too but hubby gets worried cause I have a bad foot and he doesn’t want me to get hurt. I made a curry peanut dip to have with some left over shrimp from dinner yesterday as my snack last night. it was yummy. The problem is that I would have eaten twice as much if there was more. I did go browse the cupboards but didn’t eat more. Sunday~slept in til 8. Cozy morning with the kids. We all took nice long baths and went to church which was very pleasant.
