Day 4 of 21
Lessons I have learned.
Eat breakfast early. If I do not eat breakfast I tend to graze my way through the day, especially if I am at home. It's a bit easier at work. Do not cook for the DS2. I have to taste it to see if it is too spicy (he's not that fond of chilli) too bland (likes a bit of salt - probably too much) too Indian (not fond of Asian food) too Pacific (meat eater not veges). Actually he is not as fussy as that sounds, so he now has meals in the freezer for:- 1. tandoori chicken (not spicy because it is a commercial brand) with pilaf and harvest mix. 2 Roast lamb and potatoes with beans and corn (and gravy which he will not eat but keeps it moist) 3. Ham fried rice 4. Braised lamb cooked tomatoes, onion, bacon, red wine and oregano, some with potato and some with rice and all with harvest mix. 5. Sausages and mash with peas and corn. 6. Chicken spaghetti bolognaise - lots of tomatoes, lots of pepper and basil. There is at least two of each. So there should be enough for every day that I am away. I hope he is happy about that. And I have cleaned out the freezer of all the meat which should have been eaten this month. There is only a few bits of chicken thighs and fish fillets to eat before I go away. Went to finish off the taxes last night and I have lost the PAYG group certificate. I have no doubt the wind has blown it off my desk but where it has blown it to I have no idea. I will find it and get the thing cracking by tonight. And next year I will keep better records and do it straight off. Straight up I will (yeah Shaddie - who are you trying to convince?) Meadow, my old computer did that. For some reason it would revert to 16 bit. I can't remember whether it should be 32bit or 256 colours. I think that is when it went haywire - on the 256 colours. Anyway, I had new graphic card, new monitor, new something else and nothing worked. It would and still does go for ages perfectly well and then whammy something shifts in it's brain and it does a nose dive. Love the photo of the rainbow. We are getting incredible sunsets at the moment because of the dust flying through the air. Most of it seems to land in my house - the dust not the sunsets. Ceejay - Glad you had a good time with the niece and the family. Enjoy that 4 day weekend. I could do with one of those. Just keep plugging along with the new person. One day you will say something and it will just click in her head. Sometimes those days are a long way off and it becomes frustrating. When do you plan to go to Dallas to see your sister? Holly - there will always be people who think they know better than you do. Some may actually be right. However these good folk just can't seem to spread the knowledge around, they hug it to themselves and criticise those who are trying hard to communicate, help and just be downright neighbourly. Forgive them their sins for they are just not worthy. I really get grumpy about those who criticise but don't do anything about it. Enjoy the turkey and the gardening. Put out the best dinnerset, table decorations and crystal glasses. It only gets to be Thanksgiving once a year. Encourage the DS to enjoy the formal side of life - it may be what he is looking for. Mel - Bananas!!!! - does that prove you are not a monkey??? I don't know about DS being grateful. I'll ask him when I see him and let you know. Chris reckons she'll be at about 80% by the time I get there. She tells me she has dispensed with the stick except for going upstairs (or is it downstairs). But she is fed up and frustrated with herself for not getting better quicker. I keep saying it will happen in time. She may not have yet read the blurb that Jenny sent up to her about complete recovery could be 2 -3 years!! We will see in about 17 days time. Roseblush - that walk sounded good. Enjoy the trails while you can. Glad to hear you are going well on the challenge. I saw Tig in here sometime around Friday or Saturday. Hiya Tig. Glad to hear the thugs are speaking Japanese. I may have to call on them if I get stuck or take a wrong turn and end up in Okinawa. Love the names of these fun runs you go on. Creaky bones indeed, sounds like me getting out of bed. Okay, time to run along. Who are we missing? Teel  LindaT  (she's probably cooking as well) Painterwoman  Someone mentioned the turtle. She's back posting on PIC thread. Saw her there the other day. Gotta run. |
Day 11 and counting
:T umm I love tandoori chicken - especially the not so spicy kind. Do you cook it in a clay pot? I would be willing to house sit if you were to feed me tandoori chicken. However if I'm going to spend an entire day and night on a plane to get to your house, I'd probably prefer it more if you were home and we could spend some time together. Besides, between not being able to stay on your side of the road and trying to decipher the Aussie language where they forget to add the second and third sylables of the words, it might be best if I have a guide along with me.
Tiny American children speaking Japanese - now that's got to be a hoot! DH took my car in for me. Bless him. He even said he'd wash it too. And I didn't even have to promise him he'd get lucky for it :s: That allowed me time to do 7 loads of laundry, clean 4 baths and a kitchen and sift through the recipes to plan out meals and make the grocery list. Soups are on the menu this week along with some baked chicken and a meatloaf recipe from my friend at work. I'm learning to eat with a bit more spice in my life. I found a recipe from a friend who's a fabulous cook - it's for a spicy pumpkin soup - will pass along the recipe if you want it Shad - probably doesn't have enough curry for you but you could add more. What is harvest mix? Inquiring cooks want to know! My exercise today besides being on my feet for 14 hours had to settle for crunches. My leg really hurts. I think I'm slow to get going on the weekends because once I get going, I don't sit down until late evening supper. Then it's up to wash the dishes and finish up all the things I didn't get to but wanted to. I guess I make up for sitting too much during the week with non stop marathoning on the weekends. I did take 30 minutes out to soak my feet with some eucalyptus salts. That helped ease the pain. I picked up a few magazines too including this Looking Good that I think Java Turtle was raving about. It's pretty good. Reminded me that it's good positive reinforcement to include some reading on a regular basis. Tonight's dinner was yum. Grilled salmon, fresh steamed green beans with red bell pepper strips, a few slices of nuked yellow squash and a small lettuce and tomato salad. Geez I even measured portions and used the butter spray instead of the real stuff. Feeling virtuous. :D Dessert was one small coconut macaroon which I nibbled and thoroughly enjoyed just one. No desire for more than that. The way DH scarfed them down I won't have to worry about them being around for much longer anyway. Friday we grilled fish too - sea bass for me and swordfish for him. We grilled it on cedar planks. Smelled heavenly, looked just like a magazine photo but taste.  The bass was oily, DH said the swordfish was so so, the marinated cucumbers were bitter - the only thing that came out ok was the sugar snap peas. It's amazing how it's impossible to overeat when the food doesn't taste that good. I should probably learn to yuck up my cooking and I'd do better at portion control. Mel, your comment reminded me to go looking for some orzo pasta in the pantry here. Found it. Love that stuff and since it's so tiny you can have some and not feel so guilty. It's wonderful in soups. Sounds like everyone had some good eatings on the table this weekend. Enjoy. Eat, move, breathe... |
where they forget to add the second and third sylables of the words, it might be best if I have a guide along with me. Huh!!!!
Oh now come on happy, where's your sense of adventure? They always shorten things to Jono for johnny or prego for pregnant or arvo for afternoon. But even I have some trouble understanding some of them. And the further north you go the worse it gets. They speak slower up there, but they shorten the words so it doesn't take so long. Me I speak perfect English!!! I well remember Beamo who said, I...m... from....the...norfn...teritry....'bout 12hunrd K..... sart.... o... Kafrin. I...m....on cattle....lot...an'I...work....t'bulls.....Im dry.. Yep right on Beamo - here you go, have another tequila. In case you didn't get that lot. He is from the Northern Territory and he works on a cattle station 1200 kilometres south of Kathrine. He's the stud manager and he is now thirsty from all this talk. Easy really isn't it? |
You do speak perfect English! Is it that the closer to the equator you go, the slower you talk because the hotter it gets? Crikey, I'd think you'd talk faster before you burnt up :lol3:

:wel3fc: :welcome: :welcome3:
New smilies. :D :D :D Got all excited, thought we had some pumpkins and the like... |
HAPPY COLUMBUS & THANKSGIVING DAY

:welcome2: :welcome3: :welcome: :wel3fc: THANKS FOR POINTING THIS OUT MISS HAPPY!!! I LOVE NEW TOYS! BUT WHERE ARE OUR PUMPKINS?!?! WE COULD HAVE USED HIM ALL MONTH! IT'S GOOD TO SEE EVERYONE IS COOKING, STANDING AROUND ALL WEEKEND, CELEBRATING AND RESTING AND HAVING A GRAND OLD TIME DOING IT. I HAVE BEEN PUTSING AROUND THE HOUSE DOING ODD JOBS. JUST THE LITTLE THINGS THAT GET PUSHED OFF. I REALLY NEED TO SORT THROUGH THE VCR TAPES I TAPED FROM CABLE TV. I HAVE LOADS OF THEM AND NEVER WATCH THEM!!! MUST MAKE A PILE FOR JEN AND SEE IF SHE WANTS ANY OF THEM. TODAY IS THE LAST OF THE HOLIDAY SO I WILL MAKE THE BEST OF THE SILENCE. YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN PROUD OF ME. A GENT CAME TO ASK FOR HELP FILLING OUR FORMS, A CRANKY OLD CUSS TOO, AND I SAID I'M SORRY BUT IT WILL HAVE TO WAIT TIL TUESDAY AFTER I FOOD SHOP. HE WAS SO STUNNED HE STOOD THER AND THEN ASKED WHY. I TOLD HIM I HAD OVERNIGHT COMAPANY AND WAS BUSY, SAID GOODBYE AND CLOSED THE DOOR! I KNOW IT WAS A LIE BUT IT WAS KINDER WITH THE EXCUSE AND AT LEAST I GOT IT OUT! WELL THE MORNING IS RUNNING AWAY FROM ME SO ADIOS TILL TOMORROW. CEEJAY~ I KNOW THAT TYPE VERY WELL AND AS I GROW OLDER AND WISER I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO PATIENCE OR TIME FOR PEOPLE LIKE THAT. HAPPY HOLIDAY. HOPE THA AUNT AND UNCLE HAVE A GREAT TIME. NAE~ TOBY SOUNDS LIKE A REAL TROOPER! WHEN I READ YOUR POST I THOUGHT AT FIRST YOU BOTH HAD WALKED 51 MILES....DID A DOUBLE TAKE AND REALIZED I WAS WRONG. I WAS GOING TO TELL YOU THAT YOU WOULD HAVE HAD TO CARRY ME TOO!  THAT WAS SOME GREAT EXERCISE! :tread: SHAD~ HAD I KNOWN YOU WERE FILLING THE FREEZER I WOULD HAVE FLOWN OVER AND HOUSE SAT. HAPPY AND I WOULD HAVE WATCHED THE DUST COLLECT AND THE GECKOS RUN AROUND AND HELD THE HAMMOCK DOWN TILL YOU GOT BACK! :lol3: PRAYERS FOR CHRIS. YOU SOUND LIKE YOU HAVE A GREAT HUBBY. CARS, BIKES, GARDENS, BUTTERFLIES AND ALL. HOW IS ROCKY AND HAVE YOU SEEN THE CAT LATELY? THE BIRD IS SQUAWKING CAUSE THE TYPING IS KEEPING HIM FROM HIS NA!!! :faint:  BEST GET THE DAY GOING ANYWAY. HAVE A GREAT ONE AND  TO ALL THE REST! |
It's almost 8:30 a.m. I'm at work but just don't feel like doing to much today. My other foot is starting to give me problems. I'll be calling the podiatrist sometime this morning to make an appointment, and I need to work on that manual so I guess I need to get started.
I went to sleep earlier than usual last night. I need to start going to bed by 9:30 p.m. then I could get up and do my 30 minutes of aerobics before I came to work. I only got to do 20 minutes this morning, but I did wash and dry a load of white clothes. Hello to all the chicks. I'll try to come back later and talk. |
You know Mel, when I was talking about housesitting for Shad, I was thinking that I'd bring you along and we'd stir up quite the ruckus in her neighborhood. that we are :lol3: Probably wouldn't let us both enter the country at the same time - our pics with the big red circle and slash at the customs gate
And yes, I do have a great hubby. And he has an equally fantatic wife. Must be good that we found each other  Rocky is still around but he comes in the dead of the night so I don't see him much. Feral cat came late last night. I put out some food when I saw her but she's hyper skittish and took off running. Didn't come back until 6am and when I was passing by the doorway it scared her off again. I wonder if someone tried to catch her. I am SO VERY PROUD OF YOU for standing your ground and sending the old cuss off to wait until the regular crew showed up. Yay Mel :bravo: I had to laugh at your taping of the videos. My dad did that too. He had a wall's worth of tapes - probably every movie HBO ever broadcast. He couldn't understand why we were not as excited about them as he was  Hope someone takes them off your hands or better still, works a trade swap with you. Ceejay - what's going on with the foot? I know the feeling, fix one side and the other poops out. Man, WHAT is it about the bread down here? :?: ONE side of it gets stale. Yep, one side is fresh as can be and one side gets stale. I was running late today (what else is new) and packed a sandwich as I didn't make the soups last night. Bread was fresh when I made the sandwich - well it's a few days old but still soft. Eating it now, one side is HARD. WTH?????? I have noticed this several times with the bread down here - same brands as I bought in Chicago but it doesn't last as well. I had a chicken breast sandwich, am getting ready to start on my carrots and cucumbers and will finish off with my plum for dessert. I did have a Coke :o and I'm chowing down fast between meetings so I'm swallowing alot of air. Between that and the fizz in the Coke I'm burping like crazy. My new cubemate must be really impressed  - but hey, she chose to set her cube up so that she faces me instead of the way the rest of us sit. Only a short wall (which muffles NO sound) separates us. I am trying to be very very quiet. Cripes now my TUMMY is gurgling. Wish everyone would get back from lunch quick and start talking to muffle the noise. ;) Ok, my 10 minute dash and grab is over, I have just enough time for 3 laps around the office for a bit of exercise. Am really trying to step things up this week. Later ladies... |
Morning all, glorious morning that it is and all.
I'm feeling fairly perky this morning. Darned if I know why, but I'm not complaining. The day will grind down as it passes no doubt. Challenge going well. Have no idea what day I am up to but that is okay, I will figure it out. Work is being dorky, whinging all around me. If I have to listen to another day of grumbles by the resident drama queen, I may just have to give her something to think about. Give me my blokes back.!!!!! Rung the DS2 last night to tell him what I have learned of lens for Canon Digital cameras and he is impressed with his mummy's knowledge. Good onya mum was what he said. Then I told him about the home cooked meals now in the freezer. He tells me I am a 'legend'. I guess that must be good huh? Then I told him about a couple of other things and I am the 'best'. So maybe I have earned enough Brownie points for a month or two? Still can't find that piece of paper that blew off the desk in the wind. I've looked absolutely everywhere, well maybe not everywhere since I haven't found it yet. I will ring the agency and see if I can get a copy sent. PIA. Have absolutely no idea where it could have gone. Nice new smilies - what's with all the welcoming. Have we had an influx of people or something. Or maybe we should now be saying - you're :welcome3: Hey Ceejay, you are in danger of becoming organised. All this washing and aerobics before work. Hope the foot comes right soon. If I had known you two were keen on coming over and housesitting, I would have made some more dinners. Sunday would have preferred you too, since Mel is a sitting audience and she loves people who sit (because then she can sit on top of them and claw them to death and purr in their ear). The cockatoos are back - raucous monsters. Can't shut up for 2 minutes that lot. It's not as hot as it was in the weekend so you can relax in the terrace, I'll go sling the hammock out there when I get home. You won't need to mow the lawn or dig the garden - just concentrate on the geckos and swatting the BUGS. Better go do some work. It could be novel experience. |
Day 12 Done
4 Attachment(s)
Think I'm getting the hang of this challenge thing. I would like to try some yoga on Wednesday.
Went to the chiropractor today. He found the spot where my nerve is sore. :yikes: The soreness is from twisting my hips back into place. DH said he noticed (without prompting) that my foot seems to be straightening out and is not nearly as pointing inward as it once was. Kinks are working their way down and out the foot. I'm hoping to be feeling better by the weekend at the very latest. Would like to get back on the treadmill by the end of the week. I'm going to try icing the spot as Tig suggested now that I know right where it hurts. Shad, I daresay DS2 is buttering you up. Maybe he's hoping to find a new camera lens in the freezer next to the chicken :mag:  :cb: And just what are we supposed to do with the geckos? Over this way they put them in TV commercials and make them sell auto insurance  I suppose I can't even post a picture lest we all get sued for copyright infringement :nono: I made one of the soups tonight - a shrimp and corn chowder but it seems to be missing something and I added alot of cayenne pepper so it does have a kick to it. I have to figure out how to get one of the other soups made tomorrow - a beef soup that will take a while to cook. We have a homeowners association meeting tomorrow night. Almost 200 homes in the subdivision and we'll be lucky if we get representation from 12 houses. Why doesn't anyone want to get involved anymore :( :dunno: Mel, here's a pumpkin for you. Tell Miss Suzanne to load us some smilies. DH and I had to stop at the home improvement store tonight to pick up some nails. Of course they have all the Christmas decorations out. Among them this HUGE plastic snowglobe that must be 6 feet across with singing snowmen and tiny pellets of "snow" falling inside the globe. Lighted too of course. I poked DH and said "might be the only snow we see here" ;) He said that's ok. The winds would catch it and it would go rolling down the street and cause a horrible bus accident. He has no sense of adventure (he must have rubbed off on me Shad)... |
Hello!! The turkey and pumpkin pie had been eaten and massively enjoyed and on to an OP diet day tomorrow.
It was fun to read everyone's happy news and chit chat!!! |
Happy - why are you now an Old BAT? I like bats - I'm a bit bats myself. Are we going to get the old bat bit right through to Halloween????
Holly glad the turkey and pie have been eaten. For the life of me I can not imagine eating pumpkin pie!! Pumpkin is good with the roast potatoes and is yummy with cheese sauce and great in soups but pudding???? Can you tell I am from downunder??? Teel would be saying something like - Pumpkin - ugghghghghgh feed it to the cows!!! Just went out to lunch - bought a MYO salad and frittata and went to the gardens. Got sidetracked by 4 bearded dragons. They were having a wonderful time trying to get me to feed them. There's a couple of turtles there too. They were watching from a distance and the ducks and waterfowl sort of ducked around the dragons who thought that they were the kings of the crumbs. Better go get a coffee and do some work. |
I like bats too. Without them we'd be wading through a layer of bugs 1 meter (3 feet) high. They sure do eat alot!
It was either old bat or great pumpkin for seasonal Halloween. Will have to think of something turkey like for November. You have to remember that our pumpkin is not like your squash. I would not even dream of making a spaghetti squash dessert or an acorn squash pie. Yet most of us only know the humble orange squash known as pumpkin as a dessert - pie, pumpkin squares, I've even heard one girl on the threads raving about a pumpkin (milk) shake. I think pumpkin is getting more popular here with people touting soups and other sorts of tasty bits. Still can only get fresh pumpkin 1 month out of the year - kind of limits the time for creative cooking choices. Wish I could have been sitting with you on the bench at lunch - sounds peaceful yet entertaining too. Hellos to all the chicks, wiggle those fingers and set to typing a bit here, ok? I'm off for a good night's snooze. Sweet dreams all and a pleasant afternoon to Shad. |
The pie is a delectable blend of the orange pumpkin pulp cooked to a mush, whipped up with some eggs, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger ,milk poured into a pastry and baked for an hour. mmmmmm
I use butternut squash to make soups and other "pumpkin" recipe. I do know of a good lowfat bread recipe. |
Pumpkin and Mincemeat pies! YUM!!!
:wel3fc: Ceejay~ hope the foot gets a good look at. Funny thing is that yesterday I was going to ask you if it still bothers you....guess you must have "heard" me!!! LOL It must feel just grand when you exercise! :faint: Hope the holiday weekend was restful at least.
:welcome2: Holly~ Funny how all the food just tastes so much better on a Holiday isn't it? Glad the day was a great one. :welcome: Happy~ Think there are many singing and dancing geckos in Oz? Maybe we could become agents for koalas instead....start a whole new trend of insurance commercials. Or the Cockatoos!!! Baretta all over again! Sans the creep Robert Blake of course. Hope the dr get you all "straightened out". Can't be nice to have the feet going in a different direction from the body!!! :?: :welcome3: Shad~ Sunday would love me cause i would be giving her a lot of attention to keep her away from Happy! Happy might just toss her out the door!!! I love pumpkin pies with all the spices in it. Have you never had a PROPER pumpkin pie?! Delicious :eat1: :eat2: MEL<----works cheap for food! :lol3: :lol3: Isn't it grand when the kids recognize perfection?!?!? :encore: Good thing there are only 4 of you this morning cause I ran out of welcome signs:rofl:  I too do not know why we have so many welcome signs and no pumpkin men!!! Must be an influx of newbies coming and 3fc is getting ready for them all! :faint: :lol3: No shopping today, bad night, bad sciatica and who the f*ck knows what else. Change of weather stuff so this too shall pass! Jen is coming down for a chat and pc games. I will recline in my chair and she can lull me to sleep with her own brand of cursing each time she misses at the games. Hope everyone has a great day! to the rest!!!:bb: too! :bike: PS~ Happy, I am afraid to change my avatar cause I never want to lose wheels of fire! I wouldn't know how to get it back there again......and would anyone recognize me without it! I love your bat and love holiday decorations!! :welcome: <----really not sure what these are for but I do feel compelled to use them. After all someone went to a great deal of trouble to give them to us! and I have had ones that I love dearly in the past :scooter: :moped: :bike: :beach: |
Bumping us up on the thread. I would LOVE Sunday the cat - even if she did make me all sneezy. Reminds me of our dear departed Kitty who lived 22 years with us. I love cats, just can't live with them in the house anymore. All the better if she's affectionate too.
Argh - rant of the day. Wish people would LEARN TO USE A FAX MACHINE! People don't put the number in right and then walk away (like they can't wait 2 minutes for their fax to go through). The number doesn't dial right and the machine is really loud and it keeps trying the same bad number, irritating phone noise and mechanical message over and over and over. Probably the same people who run a giant copy job, don't make sure there's paper in the bins and then take off. Meanwhile all our print jobs get stuck waiting on the inconsiderate co-workers. I am not as brave as some of my counterparts who just come along :dunno: and hit the big ole DELETE button  Actually I am brave, it's just that I won't mince words tangling with the offender so I just avoid the confrontation. 'k - gotta go earn my pennies now. No more talk of yum yum pies ok, we're supposed to be suffering here. :D |
Hi chicks,
Shad--I' m trying to get organiszed. I don't know how I got so unorganized but I did. It's probably from all this running around I do on week ends. Mel--I started giving into my left foot last week. I'm praying that the podiatrist will give me another injection but I know that the question is coming so I'm prepared for it,after the holiday's doc. I have 2 trips planned in November (Texas and Missouri) and one in December.(Suppose to go to Kentucky for Christmas.) For those who haven't read my journal's last year, I found out that I had heel spurs and bunions on each foot. The podiatrist did surgery on the right foot and I suppose it's time for the other. It's been a little over a year but I'm just not ready for that yet. However, I'll be lucky this year and just have 2 surgeries instead of 3. Did I ever have a sore foot! Do not even want to think about it. Happy--I like the new avatar. You must be getting ready for Holloween. That's one event I just wish would disappear. Holly---Your pumpkin pie sounds yum. I went to bed a little earlier last night, and this morning I got up and did my exercise before 6 a.m. You know it's not a real challenge and at the end of the day the best part is that I don't have a guilt complex for not doing it. BTW, I prepared part of my food for today last night. I have a small oven so I can cook simple things at work. I've been reading LindaT's journal for over a year. I see a routine in her day's as well as organization. I know what I have to do to loose this weight but I have to get organized. |
Day 6 of 21....15 days to take off
Day 6 and still doing okay. I'm on about Day 19 on the other challenge. Yesterday:
Food :D Exercise :D Water :) Lo Carb and Portions :D Trucking on....... and on..... and on. Ceejay - LindaT's journal (where's she go to by the way - someboday say something to her???) has been an inspiration to many and yet she has kept it a personal reminder of her days and struggles. She's obviously organised and strong minded and determined to do things properly and well. There's not much doubt in my mind that that determination and singlemindedness has led to a few other outside problems for her as well both personally and professionally, however she just works on it and at it (nagging as she would say) until whatever it is either goes away or comes around to her way of thinking. Awesome. Happy - I feel that rant. Happens here all the time. Don't fill up the printer or copier, don't feed toner to the fax, don't bother to check the fax number just guess! Oh and while we are at it, let's just put a password on the large and cumbersome spreadsheet that the whole project uses and let's neglect to tell anyone what it is and let's go on a study break for 3 freaking weeks. I like the bat and the moon. I have the objection to the old bat bit. We are not old, just moving along the edges of our prime time. Holly - the pumpkin pie sounds nice. Not doubting that, I was just brought up with pumpkins (all year round) that we ate because it was a cheap and easy vege to grow. We have a variety of the orange firm flesh pumpkins starting with Jarrahdale (also known as Ironbark because it is so big and hard - I can remember my father chopping into it with an axe - and it takes forever to cook) and working through Queensland Blue (forget what the NZ name of it is, Jap, Butternut to the very tiny yummy Nuggets. Squash was and still is the acorn squash, marrow, spaghetti squash and all the attendant varieties. We tend to only use them as vegetables. Love 'em. I see Mel's got the WELCOME mat out. Maybe the sisters are taking their own tip and not putting the smilies up until it is closer to the day. You can come and cuddle Sunday anytime but be sure to wear non colour clothes - she leaves fur all over everywhere. Anything for cheap food huh Mel. Endure a 10 - 15 hour flight for cheap food. Goodonya. Here the gecko's sell tyres. There is a gorgeous green cartoon one selling a particular variety at the moment. Gotta love it when he has a good deepbellied laugh - looks like :lol3: before he starts banging the floor with his fist. Tonight is the last night of exercise for the week. I really look forward to Thursday and Friday off. And it seems like the exercise goes faster too. But boy do I need those days off. I am really, really tired come Wednesday night. Last night I went home and hung out some laundry. All the gym gear etc. This morning it was grey and cloudy and the forecast was 'chance of a late storm or afternoon rain' so I went and bought it in again. Not quite dry, but better than dripping. Anyway as I drove to the station it got finer and finer, so now it is hot, sunny and scarcely a cloud. Grrrr I should have left it out and tempted the rain. Yes I hang my laundry out in the sun and wind Happy - probably one of the few who do. I love the feel and smell of sun and breeze dried towels and sheets. Brought in a big salad and some chargrilled salmon for lunch today. Lettuce, tomatoes, beetroot all from the garden. It's such a productive little garden. Gotta love it. Not sure if the last lot of tomatoes I planted will come to much - what with the water restrictions and now the heat. I won't give up on them just yet tho. Rocket has all gone to seed, so has the coriander. Guess I will have little plants popping up everywhere shortly. I guess Meadow's computer has bitten the dust again as she hasn't been back, but where is the Painterwoman? :mag: Tig it's time for a wave  Teel, I know you are back home again, where are you? Linus & CJ  :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug::grouphug: :grouphug::grouphug: :grouphug: for us all. |
My computer is hanging in there, this time it was the cable/internet company doing upgrades or something, plus my kids are home because of the teacher's strike, doesn't look like they will be going back anytime this week. So my exercise has gone down the tubes, still drinking the water though, doing a little instead of just opting out of it all like I would have once upon a time;)
Ceejay-Would be nice if we could absorb some of the determination that exists on this site and make a pill to give to us less than focused folk :p Sorry about your floorpads, that sounds very painful. Surgery, wow, I hope it gets fixed for good and you can forget about that area for awhile :) Shad-Who is a goer? Cogratulations on keeping the challenge working :D Sorry the weather tricked you into bringing your clothes in. You are right, there is nothing like the smell of the wind in your clothes. You would think that would make me want to run around outside more wouldn't you :p I haven't had spahgetti squash in ages, hmm, should look into that ;) Mel-Does Jen's birdy like the Baretta bird? Is there chatter? Sorry about your Sciatica, AB suffers from that too. Do you have a hotwater bottle? That can help sometimes, at least might allow you to get a bit of sleep. :wave:to Jen and I hope she is able to take your mind off things and maybe lull you to sleep :^: Happy-Faxmachine bandits! The rotten so and so's, must make a sign that says "check your number" to hang over the area :p or sticky notes, I love the pink ones ;) You can say all sorts of nasty comments on them but because they are on a pink background they appear so much friendlier :p Holly-I suppose you make your pumpkin pie from scratch and don't buy the in a tin stuff? Why aren't you on that Martha Stewart apprentice show? Baby you have it so nailed  How are you doing with the kids? Have they tied you to a tree and pretended to be Indians yet? Locked you in a closet and run around the house screaming its snowing while throwing popcorn at each other? I made chocolate chip cookies and forgot a cup of flour in the first go round so I had one batch of flat cookies and the next of little rounded up ones:p Martha doesn't want me    Hi de ho! all you dedicated, stunning beauties out there! I took a walk in the quote garden again and came away with these lovely boquets of words :D The road to success is dotted with many tempting parking places. ~Author Unknown When the world says, "Give up," Hope whispers, "Try it one more time." ~Author Unknown If we are facing in the right direction, all we have to do is keep on walking. ~Buddhist Saying I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday. ~Author Unknown |
Ok, no more old bat. I have changed my title to something of a tribute to Mel and her wonderful classic movies.
Was a long night tonight - homeowners association meeting ran way long. Busy night. It's almost 12:30 and I'm not in bed yet. Will be horrid trying to get up tomorrow. Will catch up later... Oh and I totally blew my challenge today. No exercise, bare minimum of water. Slip, slide, bumpity bumpity bump back to day one. Fail to plan, plan to fail... MEL - you've changed your avitar! LOVELY! I will always have a copy of wheels of fire around so don't you go worrying about losing it! |
:snail: Hi, Y'all. Boy... I skip a couple of days and you are PAGES AND PAGES ahead.
There's not much news here. Re: Challenge -- I'm back to day 1. :p my feet really hurt... swollen ankles... so I didn't exercise... didn't even stretch. Didn't drink my full 8 glasses of water, and I didn't write things down. :rollpin: :rollpin: :rollpin: Re: Surviving --I had another MD adventure today and it was more of a challenge than I expected. (I'll probably make a journal entry... I haven't sorted it all out yet.) Re: Baby Surprise Jacket-- only have one seam to do and a few ends to weave in. Guess what... Mine doesn't look "like the picture." I don't think a baby will mind though... especially if I knit a cute matching hat to go with it. Re: NHL: My local team (Dallas Stars) WON! Re: "work" --I've got a staff meeting tomorrow. Not really interested. Blah blah. feeling sorry for myself. I should get back to doing my online newsletter or other marketing because I hardly have any clients. Last but not least, Mr. Marston was in top form today but after I read it I just had a personal tsunami of cynicism. :kickcan: If you don't see me right away, I'm probably out eating worms somewhere. Fill your moments with action, and there will be little time left for worry. Fill your moments with meaning, and there will be little time left for despair. Fill your days with discovery, and you will fill your life with valuable knowledge. Fill your hours with caring, compassion and respect, and you will fill your world with love and friendship. Fill your thoughts with positive possibilities, and the best things in life will surely be within your reach. Fill your words with encouragement and enthusiasm, and you'll often find people and circumstances lining up in your favor. Fill your efforts with purpose, persistence, diligence and integrity. And your life will be filled with valuable achievements. Fill your heart with a love of truth and goodness. And your soul will be filled with the treasure of wisdom. Your life is a most precious gift. Fill every corner of it with the best that you can. Ralph Marston |
Oh dear. I daresay we are about to teeter on the edge of a grand mal funk-a-rama here. I can just feel it.
Ok everyone - to shift that mindset - post 3 things you are grateful for - right here, right now at the moment. I am grateful for: 1) my delicious orange flavored coffee I am enjoying right now 2) that a warm shower and a good stretch pulls the ache out of these bones and ligaments and tendons 3) that even tho my bones ache and I might be a bit stiff, I can still move around. I took a quick peek at People magazine this morning waiting for the coffee to brew. There is an article about a 19 year old boy who after partying with friends, feel asleep on railroad tracks and was hit by a train. He lost one arm and both legs at the knee. He has prosthetics and now competes in marathons (running AND swimming) and is more athletic than prior to the accident. When I get in a blue funk, I always seem to find someone way worse off than me who doesn't let life stop them. The old "I cried because I had no shoes but then I met a man who had no feet" thing. C'mon ladies, take my hand. We're headed up to Mel's where it's been raining like crazy. I'm in the mood for some serious (rain) puddle jumping -- are you in with me? Got flavored teas and warm apple cider with cinnamon to warm us after and cuddly soft afghan blankets while we sit around the fire and tell funny stories. Are you with me? |
Hooray
You ladies make me laugh and smile and think good thoughts. I would love to go over to Miss Mel's for a chatter and a cuppa anything! Let's go!!!
I am feeling so pleased with myself....the newsletter is done done done.....hurrah!!!!! It is off my list and I feel the weight of it over..... finally..... geez that to do list is looking better all the time. I have another long day today and Toby is not going to like it.... he started to scratch the corner of the bathroom rug last night by the time I got home.... I felt so bad. the challenge is still going well and I will be off to montana tomorrow for a little break...which should be fun! Hope everyone has a great day.... Peace, Nae |
I could do with a cuddle, hot cocoa and maybe even toasted marshmallows! 3 things I am grateful for:
1-that my 2 wheelchairs are both running:encore: (I think the old one has to go into a recycle pile...no parts) 2-that I have enough $$ to run extra radiators cause my butt is freezing! :cb: 3-that Jen, Richie and I are in good health and 99% happy :bubbles: Having said all that, I am going to make breakfast. Today was Fosamax day and you cannot eat for 1/2 hr and I got up late! Happy~ we have fax f*ckers here too. That's what I call them when I find no paper!!! The machine is higher up and I can't load it! FLY ME TO THE MOON AND LET ME PLAY AMONG THE STARS....LA LA LA I had to change the avatar so I could be decorated like you! :lol3: I actually e-mailed my wheels to myself and saved the mail. JIC!!! lol I tried copying it but then couldn't open the file! :lol3: So I figured if I kept it in a letter then I could mail it to you and Shad for re-inserting! I remember very well my profile picture fiasco here! hours with no success!!! Never again!!!  Ceejay~ Your holidays this year will be lots of family contact:bubbles: Maybe you can hitch a ride with Santa!:moped: Hope the foot holds out till after the Holidays. Poor Tim will be puling out his hair again!!! LOL Shad~ I miss the old clothesline here and all the lovely smells of air dried clothes. I remember my Gram "snapping" the towels and sheets to soften them a bit before we used them. She would give them a good shaking while we were in the tub. Today's kids would probably think they smell FUNNY!!!! :faint:  Meadow~ I have to use ice packs for my back cause it's a dual problem. Heat swells the muscle tissue and causes another problem altogether! :lol3: maybe you and the kids should have an exercise hour at your house! When Jack Lalane(sp) was the top exercise guru when I was a kid, my brother and I would get out the kitchen chairs in the lkivingroom and exercise along with him and his white dog and my Grandmother!!! Hope the strike ends and the kids get back to school.....they just barely got started!!! Painter~Ralphie Boy keeps me going and thinking. many times he's been a great help. I e-mailed him once and he answered. Very nice guy. Or at least in his letter! Hope the week goes better for you and keep plugging along!! NO BODY LOVES ME EVERYBODY HATES ME THINK I'LL GO AND EAT WORMS......LA LA LA I sang that one day in my journal. Cracked people up. OK it's after 9 and safe to eat and I must depart. Holly may have posted by now. She keeps sneaking in here while I'm typing!  to everyone else and have a great day/night.:scooter: |
OH!!! IT WAS NAE INSTEAD OF HOLLY!!! LOL HELLO:wave: HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT TIME IN MONTANA AND GLAD THE LIST IS GOING SO WELL. AS FAST AS I GET ONE THING OFF ANOTHER GOES ON!
|
Happy...in keeping with the "musical" side of Halloween I changed the avatar:rofl:
|
I am thankful for....
my kitty nudging my hands as I type DD chasing leaving out of the beechnut tree life |
Meadow~ I wonder if Martha remembers to brush her teeth and shower?? maybe she has "people" who do it for her.
Shad~ i bought a butternut squash to make some soup. PW~I commented in your journal. Hope it makes sense. HUGS!! Happy~ seems happy. Mel~ is flying to Miami on her broom. Nae~ every time I read your posts i need to get a map of the US out and figure out where you are or are going.HUGS! HUGS to all the chicks!! |
I'm thankful for
1)having friend's and family and you chicks. 2)having a job that I love. 3)being healthy 95% of the time. Hey chicks, Think LindaT used her cattle prod on me this morning. I rolled out of bed at 4:45 a.m. Put a load of my must have work clothes in the washer and got to exercising. I did not sleep well last night. I kept having weird dreams, but it could have been that I did not feel well before I went to bed. Mel--Like your avatar. I must go see what new ones they have. I remember Jack LaLane. That's the only time I really remember mother watchng t.v. when I was younger. Meadow-Be careful going to Montana. Holly--I've never heard of pumpkin soup before I came here. How do you make it? Shad -how many more days before you leave for Japan? Happy-I'm ready to go for a stomp in the puddles. That used to be so much fun. Oh save me some apple cider! I love that this time of year. PW- hello  |
ohhhh Holly reminded me with her comment on DD - let's go rake up a big pile of leaves and take turns running and jumping in it or just scrunch, scrunch kicking them around!
So what if I have an asthma attack over the mold? You only go around once in life! Love your avatar Mel - I'm so proud that we're getting you graphical on us. Next you and Meadow will be collaborating on designs together. |
and how come it's pronounced "Kan-suss" but not ARK-kan-suss
Or why isn't it called Kan-saw if it's ARK-KAN-SAW? (I'm talking about the state names of Arkansas (Ceejay's home) and Kansas - home of the Wizard of Oz. ) Excuse me - it's blazing hot in the office here and someone is going to town with wrong numbers on the fax machine. I am losing my mind. |
Remember back when we moved in I said I had some pics that I used to have up on my wall of our new home? Well anyway, stumbled across them while cleaning out a drawer today and decided to scan and share them with you all :D I have reframed the one in the snow which is my all time favourite :)

Just because it is, that's why!!!!
3 things I am grateful for?????? Grammar child, grammar.
3 things for which I am grateful. Only 3?????? Okay................thinking :chin: 1) My life has been free from want. I live well. 2) My life has been free from fear. I live safely. 3) My life has been free from loneliness. I can live with my family and friends and be free and comfortable. Other than that, I give thanks for: Health Relative wealth Blue skies, Sunshine Roses Internet My internet family The jet plane Children playing in wet cement (now won't their dad be pleased!) Oh yes, lets all go to Mel's for apple cider, mulled wine and spiced apple cake. Let's forget her rain, my lack of it, pain, disabilities, family squabbles and isolation and just chat for an hour or two. I can handle that. Okay - let's see what your day and my night has brought forth. Holly - how can you make pumpkin soup from butternut squash????? Wouldn't it be better to make it from butternut pumpkin?? Why don't you make butternut squash soup instead. :lol3:  :lol3:  :lol3:  :lol3:  :lol3:  :lol3: Actually I think Happy is having a bad ear day with the fax machine. PW - I should have come to you first really but I had to have that dig at Holly and the North American definitions. It's okay to feel a bit cynical about life in general and dear old Ralphie in particular. Then comes a time when you get old and crusty like me and you see something so goddammed nice like that effort of Ralph's and you think - 'get real buddy. What the **** do you know about life in general. Have you ever been out there in the wild city and seen what life does to some folk?' It's fine to kick cans and have a private tsunami session. You have endured and absorbed a fair amount of c**p in your life this year. There will be times when you fancy kicking the dr's head and snarling why me. What have I done to deserve this f***ing fallout. But you can only allow yourself a certain amount of time in the gutter. There is nowhere further down to go, so you have to force yourself back up. You have/ had a business which may not have brought in the $millions that you wanted, but it is there. Those people are still out there to be helped. You can help them. Time comes when you must grab the stirrup and get right on back in the saddle. Really when it all boils down to it. There is you and only you who can make it back to where you were. You can count the blessings that there is a DH in the background to catch you when you fall again and again. But in the end there is only you! Think about it. Mel - aren't you doing well with the graphics. No stopping this girl - get out the good china and cutlery, put out nice glasses, mull a bit of wine. We are on our way over for the rainy day chinwag. Oh and I enjoyed the Charles Schultz too - once I got passed the 15 or so fowards of the e-mail. Well maybe not 15 - slight exaggeration. Rose - Montana is it now. I'm going to have to do a Holly and look at the map to see where you are off to. Enjoy the day. Poor little Toby. Why does he have to be locked in the laundry?? Happy - you sure you don't want to take a pause day? You do get one in the first challenge - as per red balloons instructions anyway. Seems a shame to go back to square one for an indescretion when you are so far through the challenge. Glad you changed the old bat bit. I'm happy now!! Talk about people worse off than yourself. There was a 'gentleman' on the train this morning who was having a very loud conversation. Problem was that he was by himself. The recipient of this conversation was obviously very agitated about something and answered (in the man's head) with long sentences obviously full of blasphemy. The 'gentleman' kept telling him/ her to moderate the language as there were ladies present!!! Since we could only hear one side of the conversation - it was a bit difficult to understand the gist of the story. As he went out of the train at one of the stops, he turned around and said goodbye to his invisible friend. Most of us on the train wished him a happy day - he got grumpy and said he wasn't speaking to us!! Things you see and do on an early train on a Thursday morning. Ceejay - way to go on that early morning exercise. One thing I love about the early morning sessions is that by afternoon and you're coming home and you think, great I don't have to go to the .......gym. My gym last night was absolutely crowded - and I got there early. Don't these young guys work anymore? or do they all finish at 3.30 and get to the gym by 4.00??? Meadow, some nice quotes there. I can so relate to the flourless biscuits. It sounds so like something I would do. Get the stuff in the oven and then wonder why the cup of flour is still sitting on the bench!! D'oh. Okay - up to day 7 of the challenge. 14 days to go and 14 days to go to Japan. Yeehaa. Life is good. Water yesterday wasn't the best but it just scraped past the challenge limits. Nearly done on the other thread challenge. My next challenge will be to get the house ship shape, the bills paid, the books balanced before I go away. Yesterday I took an early mark and left work at 3.00pm. Couldn't stand the inactivity any longer. I badgered one of the Business Analysts for some time yesterday and then took down all the paper work I wanted her to sign off on. She tells me this morning that it is all signed off and will I kindly naff off and leave her alone for a bit. Yep, I will when I see the paperwork on my desk. I still have some more for her, but I didn't tell her that yet. She is going on leave tomorrow night. I want all my stuff signed off before she goes. I'm good at getting up peoples noses. If this is to carry on until January, I may suggest that I only work 4 days a week instead of 5. I can cope with that. Money will be a bit down, but that is okay. I'm sure Sunday the cat would love it if I was home more. Yesterday she was so pleased to see me, she came out and watched me water the pots and sweep the driveway. She also dug in the claws at every opportunity. Little witch. The storm came to nothing so we still wait for rain. They are promising it for the weekend now. Okay, off to see what the rest of the world has written overnight. See you all in the soup (Holly's soup). |
I see Meadow snuck in there while I was posting. Nice pics of the now not so new home Meadow. Webshots has a real beauty of the castle in the snow. Everytime the heat gets at me I go find that pic, bring it up onto the desktop and bask in the coolness. Guess Ludwig was not so crazy after all. Look at the legacy he left the world.

I SO needed to be reminded about gratitudes! Funk is fading.
1. Friends (live and via internet) and family 2. Change in seasons, climate/foliage 3. Positive prognosis Happy2B: Thank you for the emotional U-turn! CeeJay52: I don't think I know what your job IS... that you love so much. Hooray for you. And Awesome/amazing/and almost inspiring to arise at 4:45. I am very impressed. :strong: Mel: I hope the radiators are keeping your butt appropriately hot! I'd forgotten the wonderful way sun-dried sheets smell. Maybe if it is nice I can drape some sheets and my new comforter over the hammock for a couple of hours tomorrow. That would be lovely to snuggle in to. (We're supposed to be back up into the 80's tomorrow. :flame: Roseblush: Just a hop skip and a jump to Montana, hm? Do you have snow yet? I don't know where you are hopping and skipping from. congrats on the newsletter. Meadow... awesome photos. I did a google image search on castles a while back for an art class.... got some wonderful and less familiar ones. having something beautiful to look at is such a comfort. So, tomorrow my plan is to keep on keeping on. One foot in front of the other. I've got some writing to do... perhaps a draft of MY business newsletter.. or a marketing plan. and finish the baby sweater I made... Linus... it wouldn't take much for me to "practice" and make another one... color and size preferences? :sunny: Today (13th) is my "baby's" 24th birthday. EGAD. |
Good morning peeps.
Yes I have bad grammar but I can spell pretty well :D I’m glad you all responded to the happiness inventory. No matter how bad it gets, there’s always something good around – we just forget to look at times. Going back on posts… Meadow I cracked up with your comment about the kids yelling it’s snowing and throwing popcorn all over. Now here’s a lady who’s been around some creative kids  I also liked the quote that the road to success is dotted with tempting parking places. I think I’ve been traveling that road for a while now… Beautiful pics of the castle too. We live in the BEST places. When I read Linda T’s journal or Shad’s work out routine, it becomes plainly obvious that you just have to be committed and dedicated to make it work. Chose your path and stay firm in your commitment. I see that over and over. I just need to keep reinforcing that myself. That said, I do believe I will take a pause day for the other day. Wasn’t an intentional skip off the challenge, just didn’t focus on my “driving” and wound up on a side road there. PW – what are you going to do with your day? Just spend 15 minutes on marketing efforts. Chances are once you get started and get past the first 10 minutes of I don’t want to do this, you might clear the thoughts and make some good progress. Just think of the alternative – back to work in an office where selfish people live to aggravate you and bosses never cease to expect more and more and more out of you. We expect a progress report on mini goals today… Rose, hope you enjoyed your trip to the big skies of Montana. Holly your Kitty is very pretty. Mel, do we need to send the rubber raft out to you? I see there is still a deluge of rain out your way. Stay warm and dry my friend. Ceejay – 4:45 exercise and laundry session? Good on yah as Shad would say. :bravo: You’re an inspiration. Shad it sounds as if you are chomping at the bit to get to Japan and you have selected a nice transition challenge to get you wrapping up this one and over to the point you get on the airplane. I hope your time with Chris drags along slowly so that you can savor every minute. Teel, do poke your head in and give us a hello, will you? Please, please, please? Linus has all the company left you back to settle into your routine? Tig, time to trot by and give us a yell too. Today is flu shot day. I’ve decided to get one because we don’t get the winter germ killing freezing cold down here and I have a feeling people catch colds and keep recycling them around to each other. Yesterday was such an aggravating day on the work front. Hopefully today will be better. If nothing else, only 2 more days until the weekend. Carry on friends… |
Such enjoyable chick chatter. Goes just right with a steaming cup of coffee!!

Morning
Hi everyone....enjoying my morning :coffee: and reading about all of you and your thoughts and delivers of the day!
I will pack this morning and get on the road. Some of you are wondering where I am at... I am in Salmon, ID it is 150 miles from any city. Salmon is the most remote incorporated town in the US. It is beautiful here with the bitteroot mountains and 2 rivers running through the valley. It will take me 5 hours to get up to the Flathead Valley close to Glacier Natl park..... Yes we had snow here the other day and Toby was really wondering what that stuff falling was all about....so cute! But it is gone now will still be awhile before it sticks. I am grateful for my family My friends My health Toby went to the meeting with me last night and waited in the car.... if I left him in the house I wouldn't come home to much without puppy teeth marks.... he is learning. The newsletters are out and I feel free! The turtles and fish are doing great and I am going to try some new long lasting food tablets this time I leave. Hope all is well with everyone and how is our CJ doing across the pond these days....more Pics coming our way? Nosy Aunties want to know and see!!!!! BLessings to all of you, Nae |
:rain: There is so much of it I called John to tell him I hope he knows what a cubit is and to start building that DAMNED ARK!!!:tantrum: Head is a bit stuffed for thinking so forgive the general post. Painter has 80 degree weather?.......................... then screw it....pick me up and we'll all go there. Don't worry Miss PW we'll bring the goodies. Do you have any requests?? Then we can wallow in it together with friends and good food and drink!! I am sure they won't let us wallow too long either!
Good thing Shaddie is going on vacation before she hurts someone at the job:lol3: The time can't go fast enough to speed Shad on her Japanese way!! Maybe you should take lessons from Tig's Thugs! Cj's foot will just have to wait till we get back from Texas.... then maybe we should head up North to see Nae and Holly and Meadow?! I'd like to see the picture and new frame in person! :moped: Holly could sell us some Avon and Nae can show us all her pets....both indoor and out. I would love to live in this dreamworld all day but I need a shower and more meds!!! Hopefully I will get out tomorrow and it will soon dry up!! Enough is enough!!! Have a great day today. I am trying my best and Jen's bird is trying my patience!! :lol3: Happy Thursday! Where oh where has LindaT gone?!?!?!?!???!?!?! to her and all the others:bb: from Aunt Fannie |
