Re: The Crab Stuffed Chicken

I think next time I fix it I will replace the crab with bacon or ham, my family thought it was ok, but not great. Chris suggested changing crab to another meat, so we'll do that next time.

my3suns 09-01-2005 12:01 PM

OH yeah, I wanted to share. A girl I work with is leaving for another job. We bought her a cake, from a favorite local bakery. I ate two bites of a tiny piece and just felt sick. I guess it's been so long since I've had any sort of "real" sweet that my body just said "yuck". So I tossed my piece in the trash and smiled, despite the nausea, knowing I'm making progress.

my3suns 09-01-2005 04:32 PM

Did some shopping therapy today. Gosh somebody stop me, I have a serious problem! lol

those are very cute tops!!!! I love the green one especially!!
Where did you find them Melissa?

wolfntat 09-01-2005 05:07 PM

True Southern Gal

HEY ALL!!!! I'm a native Louisianian, transplant Texan. Moved here to be with the man of my dreams. I will marrying him October 15th of this year. We have been together almost 7 years.
I am desperate to drop some weight within the next 45 days or so. I want my family members that don't get to see me often that are coming for our small wedding, to see me slim and happy.
I am 5'7", and a muscular 248 lbs. My prior highest weight was 247 when I was prego with my 3 children. I just got to beat it by a pound. I am in a tight size 18 pants; and have been since high school, if you don't count the one time I lost 65 pounds and wore a sexy size 14 and my stepdad called me "SlimJim" when I walked in the door. WOW!!!! :cheer: THAT FELT GREAT!!! But I soon gained it all back PLUS SOME!!!! I really DO NOT like what I see in the mirror. As my fiance says, I'm curvy in all the right places...but I think I've got too many curves in all the wrong places.
I am one of those people who know and have researched for years how to eat and how to lose the weight but have NO willpower. I have seriously thought about going to school to be a nutritionist, but how could I when I look like I do.
All charts and doctors says I should weigh between 125-140 pounds. I could never see myself that small. At 175 I was SOOOO energetic; went dancing up to 4 times a week. I have so much muscle mass from years of body building prior to having children. I, somehow, have retained most muscle. My fat is around midsection and hips and thighs.
I would LOVE to find a buddy to push me and make me get off my butt. I have gotten so tired and depressed about my size that I sleep till noon, most days. PLEASE!!!!!!! HELP ME!!!!!!!! I wish I could find a buddy closer to me to walk with me. I love to go walking. I even have a decent bike to ride. I live out in the country off Hwy 69 in East Texas. I have lots of hwy to walk or have lots of acreage to walk. Any suggestions are VERY WELCOMED.
THANK YOU ALL AND GOD BLESS :df:

my3suns 09-02-2005 08:14 AM

Hi Wolfntat!!!! Welcome! "SlimJim" yeah that would be super nice to hear! It's great that you have a lot of muscle mass because muscle burns more calories/fat because it takes more to survive. So the more you work at building/toning that the better off you'll be! I split my cardio and weight training, I do the cardio first to "loosen up", then hit the weights. I'm with you on what is "healthy" for our height. I know I'll find myself pleased at 175, but of course when I hit that I'm sure I'll want to keep up the "good work". As far as what to eat, what are your weaknesses? Mine are carbs, so I know I can't do Atkins/SB. I actually am a bit of a rebellion, so I really have a problem with any strict diet. I have to make my own choices. I've found for me it's all about portion control and good choices (apple vs chocolate). Do your reasearch and start with something you think is going to work best for you, then tweak it to "fit" you.

the slim me 09-02-2005 10:07 AM

Morning everyone, We've got you beat with gas prices. I got lucky and bought gas at 2.99 before it went up to 3.19. There was an economist on tv that said we would see gas prices go to 5.00! That will cut down on a lot of traveling and make a big impact on everything! We depend on trucking for food so that's definateally going to be affected. Almost everything is.....we depend on our cars. I only work about 3 miles from my house and my husband works about 6 so that won't be too terrible, but there will be no recrational driving! Where will it all end up!

My 3 suns, Isn't it a glorious feeling to turn down something you used to love and know it isn't such a temptation any more? I have gotten really pickey about the treats I allow myself. If I take a small piece and find it's not the absolute greates and it's not "worth" the calories, I take one small bite and throw it out. I don't even even feel guilty about throwing away food anymore! Love the green top! Where did you get it?

Welcome wolfntat. Every one here is wonderful and you will get some excellent help! You are lucky to have some muscles! They help burn fat! And you had to work hard at one time to get them!

I feel sick every time I see the people down south that are in such sad condition because of the storm. To feel so helpless to feed your children and to provide such simple things as shelter and necessities. Can you believe crazyies are taking advantage of the situtation by going around shooting people? I guess at this time all we can do is pray for them and give what we can to the Red Cross!

my3suns 09-02-2005 10:21 AM

Got 'em on Ebay. :)

Loud_Librarian 09-02-2005 10:55 AM

Melissa - I had some retail therapy yesterday as well :) I splurged on shoes especially. I also got two new pair of slacks (size 8 :D ) and some new blouses. I have dress up for work and was in dire need with my size changes.

This whole Katrina mess is making me sick. I just can't believe the state of affairs. Gas is running 3.19 here. Ugh!

I need to get back on track. I haven't lost a thing, but I have maintained. I think I'll set my goal to get back on a losing plan next Tuesday when the week starts. It would be impossible for the weekend. DH is a DJ and this is his Friday night of monthly residency at a local club. It's always fun. . . lots of friends and martinis. No way to avoid calories in alcohol. :p

You are all doing so great you're inspiring me. I must do better and I will. . . I promise.

my3suns 09-02-2005 11:35 AM

Size 8!!!! Ahhhhhh you're my idol!

wolfntat 09-03-2005 08:32 PM

HEY ALL!!!! Thank you for a nice greeting. I have looked back at some of your progress and I hope it rubs off on me. I got my suit in today that I am wearing to get married in about 6 weeks. I ordered his and my rings...both should be in in a week. Guess you could say I've got more than my share of shopping therapy. Just wish I had more money to cushion the fall. :cloud9: Budget is getting really tight with the price of gas steadily heading upward around here in East Texas.
We have so many evacuees (refugees if you will) that I don't know what we are going to do around here. Our schools are already over crowded and there are no decent paying jobs. We went to one of the shelters in Nacogdoces and they told us they didn't have time to listen to us...we were offering to take in a family. She took our name and phone number and what we had to offer. If any of you know of anyone in this area, we have 5 RV hookups w/h2o and can take in a family in our home as well. We don't have much else to offer, can't help out financially. My mother in law called the Red Cross and they told her that that particular location wasn't doing anything for the evacuees at this time. :censored: I can't believe how some people have reacted towards our own people at this critical time. GOD BLESS US ALL!!!!
Anyway, I weighed in this morning and I guess I've lost some water weight by drinking SO MUCH water and green tea. I've taken off about 3 lbs...... YAY ME!!!!!
Take care and talk to you all later.

Show love to a stranger, he might be your next best friend!!!!!

Hello,
My name is Gloria and am hoping y'all can help me. Have any of you heard from Tricia since the hurricane? We were on the same support group and am trying to find out how she and her family are doing. I know she's from Mississippi and would appreciate any information you can give me.
Thank you.
Gloria

the slim me 09-06-2005 07:49 AM

HI, I'm really concerned about our friends in Miss. too. I'm just praying that they are all ok. I wish there was some way to get in contact with them.

lucky 09-06-2005 10:26 AM

Gloria - you are sweet to have checked in on me. I hope you got my PM.

Wolfntat - I know exactly how you feel. Our schools were supposed to re-open today but it was postponed until Thursday so that the superintendants can meet and decide what to do with all of the displaced students entering our school systems. Like you, I am doing all I can to help our "refugees." Still, I have to admit that I am also concerned about how this will impact my own children's education. It is a terrible situation for all involved but I know we'll pull through. I've seen such an outpouring of people getting involved and making personal sacrifices to help. Now, if we could just get some gas around here! The shortage we have right now makes it very difficult to get out and about to volunteer and such - you can't drive further than a half tank will get you or you might not get back home again. Luckily, most neighborhoods have organized carpools and shelter/grocery store runs. Nobody leaves home without checking with everyone else to see if they need anything from where they are going and that helps stretch a tank of gas. I feel so petty even mentioning it but I have to say that it is all starting to get to me. I'm just so ready to get back to something that resembles our normal routine but I don't see that happening anytime soon. When the inconveniences start to wear me down I just try to remind myself that my family is safe, we have a roof over our heads, and plenty of food to eat and that is sooooo much more than what many of the evacuees here have.

I've been eating very well but my exercise is still lacking. It is just too hard to get to the gym right now. I'm managing to get out and walk and jog but I am in desperate need of getting back to weight training. I used to go every morning when they opened at 5 but I can't justify driving back and forth now. So, I'm going to sit down today with everyone's schedule and try to organize my workouts to coincide with the kids' activities. I'm a planner by nature but I have to say that micromanaging every car trip like this is making me crazy! Again, though, I know I could be in much worse shape so not a peep of a complaint from me.

Melissa - I LOVE the tops you ordered. I am in desperate need of clothes right now. The smallest size I have in my closet is a 10 but I wear an 8. I've tried to postpone any purchases until I've made it to a 6. I think I'm ALMOST there. The 8's I tried on a couple of weeks ago were a tad loose. I tried a 6 and they were too small but I was able to button them so hopefully I'll be able to hold out for a while longer. I just can't bear the thought of buying clothes that I'll only be able to wear for a few weeks. Of course, maybe that is the key to shedding these last few pounds. If I don't buy new clothes it will probably take me months to lose the weight but if I spend the money I'll probably drop 10 pounds before I have a chance to cut the tags off! LOL.

You gals have a great day!
Tricia

my3suns 09-06-2005 12:23 PM

Tricia, you have done fantastic girl! You are a real motivation for me! Do tell, what were your stratagies to tackle the weight. What did you do that you found worked for you? And that goes for anyone who's accomplishing their goals. What is it you're doing? I'd love to hear what everyone is changing in their lives to become the healthier person they want to be.

Loud_Librarian 09-06-2005 12:39 PM

That's great willpower Tricia! I caved last week and bought the size 8s. We got the big ax on wearing skirts with no nylons and I just decided to wear pants 95% of the time from here on out. So I needed new pants and bought the size 8s. Although I would recommend finding a good seamstress. Mine has taken down my 14s, 12s & 10s to fit nicely. I figure if I have to take down the 8s down the road I will. I'm still holding out for my fun clothes though ;)

I lost another pound, but I have no idea how considering how we ate all weekend. DH made ribs on Sat night! But all we had with them was the corn on the cob. I really think it is those little changes that have helped me so much. We don't have salad, & potatos & corn anymore - we just choose 1 side with our main meat. Though we made burritos on Sun and they were yummy - I only had one wrap and made another one naked!

So I guess my biggest "secret" to share would be cutting out the High Fructose Corn syrup and moving to low fat or FF everything: FF cream in my coffee, LF butter, LF sour cream, etc. Other than that, I mostly never deny myself anything, I just don't eat much of it. I still have chips from time to time and little bits of chocolate, but I try not to binge and eat until I'm sick (like I used to). I wish my claim was that I exercise like a mad woman, but I don't. I walk a lot with Bella and around the hospital, but I truly believe it is 80% diet and only 20% exercise. I've went weeks without regular workouts and still dropped pounds. BTW - I HATE exercise :(

lucky 09-06-2005 01:47 PM

Thanks, Melissa! I don't really have any secrets - old fashioned calorie counting and exercising a lot more than I used to. I don't cut out any foods or worry to much about refined foods, etc. However, I've found that I have naturally gravitated towards healthier foods these days. Basically, I slightly altered our usual recipes and cook them a little differently then eat less of them. It has worked like a charm so far! :crossed:

my3suns 09-06-2005 02:24 PM

That's pretty much me, healthier choices and portions. I've also found I don't care for rich sweets as much, I'd rather have a strawberry or grapes.

5 dogs 09-06-2005 02:38 PM

Thanks Tricia for letting me know your okay. I've been in AZ. for the past month helping my mom. She has breast cancer and is not doing so well. When i finally returned home just before the hurricane hit, the first person i thought of was you and your family. I am so thankful that you and your family are safe. All those people who lost everything just makes my hart ache for them.

HI every one, Melissa what adorable kids! And another cute top!
I agree with what every one else has said about weight loss. It's a matter of changing the way you eat. I've just modified everything and changed to L/F or F/F everything. I have changed the way I cook. I am doing a lot of grilling and broiling and baking now instead of the frying everything! I buy whole wheat bread and make sure I get enough water. I have been on a million (slight exageration) diets and they don't work in the long run. This time I've decided to get real and eat healthy. And it's working well. I still have sweets occasionally. Who am I kidding, I have sweets every day. But now I just have a cookie or a fun size candy bar with my afternoon cup of tea. It's a real treat for me and curbs my cravings! And I read something wonderful today. At least for a coffee addict like myself. It's a really great antioxadent! Made my day! You ladies make yours a good one!

my3suns 09-07-2005 02:59 PM

I love to smell coffee but only rarely do I drink it, like maybe once a year and I have to be super cold to want it.

No, I'm Sweet Tea 09-07-2005 10:51 PM

Hey Ladies :)
Just popping in to see how everyone is doing, and say hello! I took a short computer break over the holiday since I work on the computer all day I think I needed the break! lol! I hope everyone is well and had a great weekend!

I went to Sara's tonight. She ran out to Sam's Wholesale while I was at work and bought a ton of meat and veggies for us to split up. I helped her split em up, gave her a check and brought home half the food for me and my sis. To eat healthy ya gotta actually have food in the house! LOL! ;)

I also weighed when I was at Sara's. Surprisingly, I am down another 6 lbs. Shocked? I know I was! Very glad tho! I think we are doing well working as a team. We keep one another in check and I find its so much easier.

Glad to see that everyone is doing well and Kerry - those burritos sound so good! Yummy! Have a good night everyone!

gma22 09-08-2005 08:09 AM

Well, girls, the old lady is back from Vegas. We had a wonderful time but came home to a broken AC and the garbage disposal went belly up. SIGH! Anyway, I promised pics but made a webpage instead that everyone can look at their leisure. I am really busy right now, but I promise to pop back in soon, read all I have missed and post more.

**We got some minimal damage in Memphis from Katrina. We came home to tree branches and gunk all on our deck and there was flooding etc from a big amount of rain all at once, but may I say for those of you who have family that got caught up in this mess, our prayers are with all of you and we wish each and everyone of you the best!**

(PM me if you want the link)

Faye

my3suns 09-08-2005 10:26 AM

Welcome home! I'm so jealous, Vegas is definitely on my list of things to do! To bad you came home to all the "real world woes". ~*~hug~*~

Sweet Tea 09-08-2005 04:26 PM

Faye -- thank you so much for sharing your Vegas pics!! I am so jealous now :D!!

Melissa -- What a beautiful family you have!! Thank you for
sharing your pics!

Everyone -- Hugs to you all!!! I promise I will get caught up on everyone this evening!!

Sorry about being MIA since last week. I went to my Moms over the weekend and this week have been trying to get the house cleaned up and keeping the boys happy. I took Beren to the dentist today and it was so horrible. He is none the worse for wear but I am beat and I'm still upset about how it went (sorry long rant would be needed to explain and I think I would cry writing it). In the end I am craving sweets since I feel so wiped out from this morning but I am rtesisting really well. Water Water Water =not chocolate but a full tummy.

I think my metabolism is the same speed as a snail. :( I am still at the same spot weight wise. Ugh, I think I will go back to phase 1 SB since I felt so much better when I was doing that. I still feel so much better in general though since getting back on track last month. I will meet my Sept. goal!!!!

Hugs to you all!!

OMG what a beautiful family - gorgeous kids!!!!!

Sometimes we just seem to plateau, you'll get back in the grove and see those pounds melting again!

Sweet Tea 09-09-2005 10:08 AM

Mornin' lovely ladies! I am finally below 200 today!!!! Yippidy Do Da!!! YAY!! Now I need to be good this weekend so it stays off :D.

We need to mow the yard this weekend and do yard work stuff so I am hoping to pick up some time exercising doing that and hopefully taking a family walk ot two.

I noticed how low my sugar jar is yesterday :). I have not purchased sugar in over 6 weeks!!!!!!! I have been sticking to splenda for things that need it and the large bag I bought of it still has a few cups left in it :). Such a small thing but I am so proud of it. Silly southern girl! it seems blasphemy though -- I live about 1/8th of a mile from a Dixie Crystal refinery. It's right accross the street from my daughters school and most would never know it's there.

So, a couple weekend questions if you'll humor me (:D):

1-- Do you have a food item that helps you get through the change in eating habits? A specific snack or "treat"?

2--What is your favorite TV show?

3--What is something that you do for yourself to make YOU feel good and that recharges you on a crappy day?

4--What color ink do you write with when you use a pen?

Love to ya all!!!

Howdy Curlylocks!! You have done an amazing job on your weight loss!!! Your tickers are in inspiration :D

So, what parts of GA do you hail from? I spent a few years up in Northern VA (DC area) and my dh looked at jobs in MD for a while before we went up there. It was too far up north for me . I enjoyed our trips over to Anapolis (sp?) because the downtown area reminded us of the historic district in Savannah.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!! I want some wonderful details!!!!

curlylocks 09-09-2005 06:56 PM

ugh.. the cost of living is soooo high here! its just insane.. I was born in Augusta at the army base.. but my family moved while i was just a toddler.

i am kinda in between washington dc and fredericksbug va

ty for the compliments... i have a long way to go... Ive made this journey before from 322 down to 180 but it snuck back up on me... lot of relationship issues in the past.. but i learned ya cant heal a broken heart with hostess cakes!! lol

then i met the guy i am dating... and just wanted to get myself together and looking jaw droppin sexy for him.. he is a great guy.. LOL yep i know u are supposed to do this to get healthy But i have to admit he has been my motivation...

something bout them southern men... yummm

all he has to say is "hey girl" and i melt! lmao

Sweet Tea 09-09-2005 07:56 PM

LOL Curlylocks  I know what you mean about a southern man. especially one with a good ol' boys voice -- not redneck but southern gentleman smooth. The UPS man we had down in St. Augustine was such a smooth talker. I loved that we had a daily account at out shop so he had to check in on us everyday. the flirting that went on... Oh My! I miss that fellow.

Mmmm...hostess cakes..... my heart break healer was Ben and Jerry's ice cream. After I had my daughter in '99 they became my best friends for a while. Made things really bad with my dh and I though. Now I only have the good stuff once in a great while.

When we were up there we lived in Woodbridge and my uncles lived in Fairfax. I had a business at Potomac Mills and dh was an architect there. I really really miss the IKEA there and all the shopping. I also miss the Lotte market in Fairfax and Trader Joes in the worst way :(. I really missed GA though and after 2 years we moved down to St. Augustine. Now we are back to the city where we met :). It's where we belong.

How did you meet your new fellow?

Hope everyone is having a great evening!!!

curlylocks 09-10-2005 07:32 AM

i saw his ad on a bbw personals site.. and sent him an email and he sent me back his phone #... which i was too chicken to call for @ 2 weeks.. then finally one day i called him and we talked on the phone for a long time... then made plans to meet in person...

and i was smitten!

hope everyone has a great day... and enjoy your weekend!

Sweet Tea 09-11-2005 09:45 AM

Just wanted to pop in this morning and say HI!! I hope everyone is having a good weekend. I'm off to get cleaned up while DH mown the lawn. Then hopefully I can get the kids outside to help wash the car :D.

lucky 09-11-2005 10:36 AM

1-- Do you have a food item that helps you get through the change in eating habits? A specific snack or "treat"?
Blue Bunny Sweet Freedom Fudge Lites, Munchies Ultimate Cheddar Snack Mix2--What is your favorite TV show?
Entourage and Six Feet Under (but it is over, this was the last season).

3--What is something that you do for yourself to make YOU feel good and that recharges you on a crappy day? It doesn't matter WHAT I do, just that I do it ALONE.
4--What color ink do you write with when you use a pen? I prefer black but I'm more likely to choose based on the grip of the pen than the color. I'm one of those people who can never find a pen, though, so I take what I can get - crayons, magic markers, pencil, whatever DH happens to bring home from the office.

Sounds like everyone is doing well.
Sweet Tea, welcome to onederland! It is a great feeling, isn't it?

Curlylocks, Isn't love an awesome feeling? I was the opposite of you though. I initial ly started losing weight to become healthier. What KEEPS me losing weight is the reactions I've gotten from DH. He never seemed to mind my being overweight but it is clear that he PREFERS me this way - and it isn't anything that he says to make me think so. I feel so much more confident and my moods are so much better and there is no question that he finds me more attractive now (not that he didn't before but this IS better). It is like we've just started dating again and have that "new" feeling. It is GREAT!

I went shopping yesterday and picked up a couple of shorts and tops that were on clearance. It feels good to have some clothes that fit now. I'm putting off buying any fall clothes because it take so long to get cool here. I'm hoping I'll have made it down to a 6 by then and don't want to waste my money on stuff I won't get a chance to wear.

I ran into a shopping dilema though. I have a "date" with DH coming up on the 21st - we are going to see one of his favorite bands play at a local bar. I have NO IDEA what to wear. Everything I saw was either too trendy or too stuffy. There just didn't seem to be any in between a 36 year old mom with three children. To make it even harder, I am only 5'2" so I have trouble finding simple things like jeans that look good. The petite lengths are fine but the styles out now just aren't very flattering for my height. Any suggestions? Any great jean brands that you've found you particularly like?

Can you tell it has been forever since I've had to shop for clothes? I used to have a great sense of style. But, after years of shopping for camoflauge rather than on how good it looked, I think I've lost my edge! I feel so horribly unhip. What do you wear for a casual night out these days? I'm lost!

I'm off to a fancy tea party upstairs and I can't keep the teddy bears waiting. You all have a great Sunday!

Jawsmom - For affordable jeans that come in all cuts and lengths I shop Old Navy. They are the same jeans as the Gap, but cheaper. For an event/date like you are talking about I would just wear nice fitting jeans and a cute tank (be sure to take a sweater in case it gets cool or the a/c gets ya). Maybe something silky or lacy if you feel like dressing it up a bit. For those types of tops I shop places like Dress Barn or Kohls. I stay away from stuff that is too trendy and stick to good colors, fabrics and fits. Make it more fun with your jewerly.

I'm a pro at this anymore bc DH is a club DJ and has had a residency in Clt for 1.5 years plus we go out to support good friends who are DJs. I've had to learn to do this at a siz 14 and a siz 8. I just have fun with it and don't compare myself to other skinny minies. DH is the same way though, he's really gotten *hot* for me :o now that I've lost the weight... not that he wasn't before, but you KWIM. ;) Last time we were out I wore my tight CKs and a silk pink top & he was all over me. People probably would of never guessed we were married if they saw us for the first time (& probably thought I was easy  )

Uh-oh, now I want to go shopping!

Just poppin into report that somehow I dropped a Pound!! :cb: After all my complaining I was happy to see it drop a little bit. I wasn't even supposed to WI today, but I did and I'm glad I did. I figure I'll start bloating soon due to PMS so it was good to look at the scale today instead of waiting until Friday. ;)

That's a good way to start the week Not too happy that it's Monday, but I'll survive I guess. . . Hope you all will as well. I'll check in later and see if any of you are around. :)
