Hey guys! You guys seem to be staying motivated and congrats with all the weight loss! I, on the other hand, feel I need to move my big butt over to the depression and weight loss forum. I'm just having a really hard time staying motivated, I'm not feeling well at all and... well, I'm just being poopy.I'm still sticking to my diet, so I guess that's a plus. Arrrgh, and I'm so tired of posting blah messages. Alright, I know this to shall pass. At least I'm trying to do something about my weight and maybe my body is just taking some time to get used to these new habits. Don't worry about responding to this post, I just wanted to check in.

LauraB 08-04-2005 01:41 PM

Uncovering-It's so good that you are sticking to your program. Do you think that maybe you are feeling yucky cause youare not eating when you feel bad. I know I've said it before, but i eat when I'm tired, bored angry lonely sad scared anxious etc. Eating covers those feelings. But when you can't use food anymore, the feelings are still there.

Right now I really want the bag of macadamia nuts my son left in the kitchen, but if you can stick to the program, so can I. I think that's what this support is about. Reading your post helped me stay resolved.
Also-just a thought, are you eating enough protein in the morning. I think that's really important to help you feel good.

KayElle 08-04-2005 02:11 PM

Freecycle looks really interesting. I did find one community that's about an hour away from me but seemed pretty deserted. It'll probably catch on eventually.

I do like ebay a lot. One year I sold enough for my family to take a two week vacation to the west coast. I got rid of so much stuff. I haven't bought or sold there for a while now, though. I may have to go check it out again.

I think there are a few different ways to figure out your proper calorie intake for the day, but everyone is different. You have to find that magic number that won't leave you feeling too hungry but will still let you lose enough to stay motivated. I was really strict about counting at first but I didn't set an exact number, instead I set a range of approx. 1000-1500. Whether I am at the top or bottom of the range for the day depends on how I'm feeling. Most days I try to stay near the middle...but there are days where 1000 calories are enough and there are days when I need all 1500. I still count my calories every day but it's a lot easier after doing it for a while because I have so many calorie counts memorized, it only takes a minute to know how many I've had. I don't count the really low cal veggies as part of that...those are my filler foods and I have as much as I want of them. Another thing I count is fiber grams. I find that the more fiber I have in a day, the less hungry I am. A big bowl of Fiber One or oatmeal keeps me full for hours. You just have to find what works for you and go with it.

Uncovering - sounds like you are really feeling down. I imagine every one is struggling with motivation at one time or another, if we didn't none of us would have ever come here in the first place. I know how rotten it can make you feel. The important thing is that you are taking the steps necessary to make a lifestyle change. It is so hard to do but it is worth it and you are worth it. Hang in there and it will get easier and you will start to feel better. When I first started in January I felt depressed, angry, i-can't-believe-i-let-this-happen-again, miserable. I bet almost everyone here has been in that hole and the only way out is to keep digging. You can do it! You have been sticking to your diet and that shows that you are committed to doing this. Please don't worry about your posts not being perky all the time. We are all going through the same issues with our weight and we all have good times and bad.

 Good morning/afternoon to everyone! Sounds like we're all off to a great start today! :)

Jeane... Don't worry one bit about yesterday's eating. That's in the past. Today is a brand new day for being your best! :)

LauraB... I'm very sorry to hear about your son's marital issues. These things can be mighty difficult, that's for sure. Best wishes sent your way... please let us know how things go, ok? As for going over your 1200cals by eating fruit, that's absolutely nothing to worry about. You should definitely be proud of yourself for making healthy selections! :) I'm glad to hear that seeing numbers on the scale or on fitday.com has helped put things into persepctive for you. :) As for how many cals you should be eating, there are calorie intake calculators that will help to assess the number of calories you should be eating. Try this one: http://www.weightlossforgood.co.uk/c...calculator.htm . From there, I *THINK* you're supposed to decrease that number by 500 to lose weight.

Sandisuze... Good job fitting into those previously too tight shorts! And they were loose?! ^5! Great work, girl! Those are fabulous goals you've set for yourself for the next 10 days... I'm sure you'll achieve all of them!

Kristin... Ok, I have to ask... what's fried dough? Is it like a doughnut? I'm confused. Regardless, it does sound yummy! Good idea in taking some healthy snacks and water along with you to the fair! :) Glad to hear your feet are feeling better! That makes all the difference in your desire to walk, I'm sure! :)

Theresa... WOW! 10mi! That's phenom! You are most certainly on your way! Good job! So... how'd shopping go? Were you triumphant in your goal to stick to the list??? ;)

Kathy... 1/2lb loss is great! You are moving in the right direction, remember that! :) Not sure about this cabbage soup diet... I think it sounds a lot like the grapefruit diet (or any other of those "fad" diets). Let us know what you decide though... and how it goes. :)

Cadwell... Congrats on the 3lb loss... and for staying OP even through a stressful time. Moving, most certainly, is great exercise... all that walking, lifting, carrying! Phew! I'm exhausted just thinking about it.

melra... Glad to hear that you were able to stay OP yesterday. I know it's hard. I have a hard time getting exercise in, too. So right now I'm just focussing on walking. It's becoming routine again. From there I'm going to move into my kickboxing tapes. The key is finding something that you enjoy so it doesn't feel much like "exercise" per se. The more you enjoy it, the more willing you'll be to do it on a regular basis. :)

KayElle... Good job getting all that exercise in and for staying OP food-wise! That's phenom! As for the water, just drink what you can and then try upping it by even 1/2C each week. :) Keep up the great work! :)

Melissa... This freecycle thing sounds very cool. I had never heard of such a thing. I wonder if they have it in Canada. :^: Weight loss *HAS* to be a lifestyle change... you're right. If not, we'll lose the weight but then gain it back in no time. And as we all know, gaining weight, unfortunately, is far easier to do than losing it. :( I've resigned myself to the fact that this is a process and my unhealthy ways can't be undone overnight. <--- Although I *SO* wish they could be! ;)

Uncovering... I'm sorry you're not feeling well right now. But you definitely deserve a big ol' pat on the back for sticking with this. You have lost 12lbs thus far. You are off to a KILLER start! Last night, I put things into perspective for myself by really thinking about how much weight I've lost. For you, that's 12 1lb tubs of margarine, or 12 1lb blocks of butter. That's A LOT... and YOU have accomplished A LOT! :) Whenever things get frustrating, remember how far you've already come.

As for me... I'm doing ok. I got in 3mi last night instead of my intended 4. Ah well. I *WILL* do 6 tonight. That is a promise. Goal of 3L of water. Food looks good. I really enjoy planning my daily menu as soon as I get up. I know what I'm allowed to eat so there's no guessing, no humming, no haaing, when I feel a grumbly in my tummy. :)

Everything else is well. I'm working hard to slow down my eating, to enjoy my meals, rather than just get them over and done with. :) That's something I've never really done before. :)

Anyways, I should take off. I hope everyone has a HAPPY and HEALTHY day today! Take care, ladies! Very best wishes sent to each and every one of you!

~mel

Thanks everyone! Things are already looking up! :)
Auntie's surgery went well. They put the stint in and she was back in her room by 11 am! She will stay overnight and probably come home tomorrow.
My dad's appointment with the cardio also went well. His pacemaker showed only one brief episode and that only lasted 20 minutes. They are going to make a minor adjustment to his medications and leave everything else as is.
My doc removed the spot off of my nose right in the office this morning. He said that it was a type of wart (of all things :dz: ) and not cancerous, but still should be removed. The novocain hurt worse than the actual procedure, but now it's starting to wear off and my nose is a little ouchy. No worries though! :)
Now for the added bonus good news...the doctor's scales were 2 pounds lighter than mine here at home and that was with my clothes on! :D

KayElle 08-04-2005 02:54 PM

Whoohoo! That's great news, Suzy! I'm so happy to hear things went well for all of you. How neat that you weigh less at the Dr.'s!! That had to feel great!

3 miles is still a lot, mel, you are doing great. Good luck getting all 6 in tonight!

I'm still waiting for it to clear here so I can get outside. I may just have to get back on the bike for a few min. instead, but I am OK with that today.

Ice Princess 08-04-2005 05:25 PM

Sorry guys been really stressed and busy with work and the heat havnt had time to get on, Between hubby and kids have two computer need one more just for me LOL
well water intake still isn't very good but drinking at least 3 cups a day, exercise eeewwww have walked a couple times in the last 2 weeks and havn't started my weight's yet either but em down 4 pounds cause I slowed down on my pepsi intake LOL instead of a 2lt a day I'm down to a can or 2.

Purplefirefly 08-04-2005 06:54 PM

OKay, I went to that site someone gave and it says I need over 3000 calories a day....I had to do something wrong, right? that is HIGH!!!

The grocery store went great, stuck to my list except for a bunch of fresh fruit that will be gone by Monday lol probably much sooner. But then I got home and realized I forgot to get toilet paper, sat down at the computer and opened a rejection letter for one of my stories (I am a writer, remember) so got the kids back in the car to go after toilet paper, but was really on a rampage because of the rejection letter...and ended up with a pack of little almond joy and some fruit sandie cookies...and ate a few on the way home, the entire time screaming at myself that I don't need it, it won't erase that rejection letter, and I need to just get it ready to go out again, not stuff myself with cookies.

So, now I feel really bad and want to throw the rest of the cookies in the trash. :stress: I thought I would just not eat supper, but I know that will just set me up for a night binge because I'll be starving. So, I'm making a very healthy dinner and everyone else can just deal with it tonight! I'm going to have a big salad actually, the others are having lasagne. I don't need lasagne, i need to sit down tonight and get that story out somewhere else...after I reread and make sure there isn't something wrong with it that i haven't seen before. I've been working on this piece for over five years and the rejections just get me bummed out, although I haven't had that many for this one yet, just starting to send it out really.

I only got 2 miles in so far today, my daughter was throwing up all morning and then the shopping trip takes awhile with two toddlers in tow. I'm hoping to get in at least 4 more miles while watching Big Brother tonight...that will make me feel better. TOM is over...that's a good thing! The swelling is almost down and I've been downing the water all day, so I might just step on the scale tomorrow and see where it sits.

Okay, enough rambling. Off to fix my salad and get the others to the table  I don't think I even deserve a salad, but I have to have something

Theresa

melra 08-04-2005 07:06 PM

theresa~ I think throwing the cookies in the trash will make you feel better. the few dollars wasted on throwing them away is nothing compared to the awful temptation of having them in the house. You can take your rage on those cookies by crumbling up the package and tossing them. You can even curse at them while you do it! Stupid cookies! Take that! good luck. ;)

sandisuze 08-04-2005 08:03 PM

hey Theresa.. I am so sorry you have had a rotten day- I don't know if this will help : But remember some of the greatest writers had 100's of rejection letters before they got published...

In my job I deal with people on a weekly if not daily basis who have really bad things happen to them - some handle it better than others and I started asking why do you have a different attitude? and they told me they count the good things that happen to them first before the bad so maybe this will help:
1. You stuck to your list with 2 toddlers (arrgh I can't take my hubby
and 7 & 12 YO to the store with me..) To me you are so brave to do that!
2. You bought fruit which is good!
3. You only ate a few "baddies" not the whole package and you didn't buy like 100 packs of cookies and eat them all.
4. You got 2 miles in WOW ! That's awesome!
and the big one : the TOM is OVER!
I agree with Melra- kill the cookies.. and we all fall off the wagon .. we can pick up and try again..we're here for you ! I couldn't make it thru my day without the support of my "SuperCyberfriends" just the advice, tips and kindness is so awesome. Tomorrow is another day and just keep going! we will cheer you on!

LauraB 08-04-2005 08:41 PM

Theresa-Definately throw the cookies in the trash and forget them. You are so terrific. You didn't turn a rejection into a binge. Isn't it great that we all have a place to turn to when something like this happens?
Did you know that Rollins (sp), the Harry Potter author, was rejected by 23 different publishers and it was only an accident that an agent picked up the manuscript to read off of a big pile cause he was waiting for someone who was late, and he fell in love. She was broke and now she is now richer than the Queen. Rejection doesn't mean the piece is bad, just that that person can't use it.

Hi everyone, today was a good day until chocolate/raspberry brownie after dinner! But it was the only oops! all day, so I'm happy! I got all 3 liters of water in and walked on the treadmill for 30 min. Hubby is now starting his 6 days off, so hopefully I will continue with the good eating and drag him along with me!! We are taking the girls school shopping in Reno Monday, last time we went to Reno for 2 days, I came home with 3 pounds!! I know better this time--lots of salad and share an entree with hubby or the girls.
Thanks everyone for the advice on the cabbage soup. I will show your responses to my hubby. I know there is no quick fix on losing weight, it has taken me a year to lose 35 pounds!
Well, once again, it's bedtime! See you tomorrow!
Kathy

Hi all -
Mel - Fried dough is bread/pizza dough fried in  oil - till lightly browned and most people sprinkle sugar and cinnamon on it - Some vendors also have spaghetti sauce and parmesean cheese - that is my favorite! (I am mainly Italian) So it is not at all a diet food!

As far as the WW points question - if I had the nutrition information I always used the calculator - the bagel for instance - can be different from brand to brand depending how it is made/how large it is, etc) If I didn't have info. I used what the book had. Have you gone to www.dwlz.com? It is Dottie's Weight Loss Zone and she has lost a tremendous amount of weight with WW and has amassed a list of foods and points for them. She also has receipes with the points calculated. It's great site for WW followers.
I did WW at work about 1yr 1/2 ago and lost 16lbs - and we didn't have enough ppl to continue and I gained it back :(. I am trying to count calories and exercise this time around.
Suzy - glad to hear everyone is doing well healthwise!

I weighed myself last night - down another .5 - I am off from work today - supposed to be in the mid 90's and humid - I plan to clean the house - work up a good sweat and jump in the pool! We are heading to our camp for the weekend - may not be able to check in until Monday nite.
Keep up the great work everyone!!

Purplefirefly 08-05-2005 09:38 AM

***BIG HUGS*** You guys are so great. Sadly, you all are more supportive and encouraging than my own husband! He doesn't understand why I would work on a story for over five years without ever sending it out, with no gurantee of ever making a dime off it. To me it's not a money thing, it's just something I have to do or I get cranky lol I actually consider my characters real people...guess I'm insane.

I know that most sucessful writers went through years of rejection and I also know that most that really make it, do so during the later years of their life. It just takes that long to really be great in the craft, as well to beat down doors and get recognized. There are some really great writers out there that have never, and many will never, be known to the general public. But, I still want to eat when I get a rejection, that is how I've trained myself to deal with life and it has to change. At least I know now what I"m doing, that is the first big step in correcting it.

I am feeling much better today. I got another 3 miles in last night, for a total of 5 yesterday. I want to get 10 in again today, but I don't think it will happen. I have a lady from freecycle coming to pick up my daughter's old nursery set and might meet another lady to give her some clothes my son has outgrown. The kids are fussy and wanting to cuddle...I take advantage of that, they are usually too busy for me unless they're hungry lol

How is everyone else doing? I don't wanna hog the board.

Purplefirefly 08-05-2005 09:40 AM

have fun at camp Kristin..and do some sloshing in the pool for me, that sounds so nice!
