Hey everyone.. :sunny:
it seems everyone is doing so wonderful!

Melissa.. I had to laugh when I saw freecycle- my hubby says no more freecycle ;) I have gotten exercise videos, a scale, a foreman grill and other goodies from freecycle.. of course I have given up lots too ! He says the same about Ebay too - but I sell more than I buy

I am sorry to hear about health problems and needed surgery- Suzy, I also hope that the spot is nothing.
Happy Birthday Radiodoll! :balloons:

Hmm country fairs are bad news for me- hubby always wants to go and EAT!
I will plan also before going- I always carry a glucerna bar and a snack with me in case of emergency or craving attacks..

I have to say congrats to everyone for still staying motivated! :bravo:

LauraB- it was fruit- it wasn't cookies or ice cream- (YAY!)that is so good you didn't let your emotions control your eating. You chose wisely and that is a good thing! I have been going thru so much with my oldest and I understand the worry and stress our older kids can cause. You have my sympathies! I hope all will be ok and I am glad this support group is here for you! Being tired doesn't help either, I know. I told my hubby I had no idea being a parent of such a diverse group of kids would be like (21, 12 and 7)and if I knew then what I am going thru now I prolly would have RUN ;)

I had to run to the store tonight for a loaf of bread and ended up buying fruit that was on sale- got grapes and cantalopes and apples.. YUMMY! But I put on a pair of shorts that had been getting tight 12 or so days ago and tonight hubby says you need a belt..They were LOOSE :D Oh I am soo excited. I had to share that because nothing has been loose unless I am wearing hubby's t- shirts :p
Well I am off to make a big fruit salad and get ready to :ebike:
Must ride bike.. no more excuses

My Goodness - miss one night here and you get very out of the loop!!
I am having a hard time remembering who wrote what!
Suzy - I am thinking of you and yours with all of the health issues. Hoping you will all be fine.
Happy Birthday Radiodoll! :balloons:
I am going to a country fair this Sunday - I have decided that I will allow myself some fried dough and that is it! - it is my absolute fave - my mother used to make it for us all of the time - haven't had it in 4yrs! Thanks to you I will stash healthy stuff in my purse and bring water so I don't have anything else!

I have changed my ticker to reflect my real weight, based on my new/accurate scale!
I have also decide that I will also do 10 lb. mini goals, because the 10% one was too much to tackle right now! - I want to see a ticker MOVING!

My feet are feeling better every day and the weather is supposed to be cooler & drier this weekend, so I am planning a short walk on Saturday and I will walking all over the fair on Sunday - so my fingers are crossed!

Take Care all and thanks for all of the support!!

I know! Me too! I was thrilled to get to move it down 5 lbs. last week, and am so anxious to weigh in next week and get to move it again! These things are great motivation.

Purplefirefly 08-03-2005 10:08 PM

sandisuze--Wow, congrats! I bet you felt so proud wearing your loose pants to the store! I can't wait until something is loose on me! Seems impossible at this point, but you are proof it can happen in just a short period of time.

I did pretty good today, though not as well as I wanted. The great thing is I got 10 miles in! I did 3 on the gazelle first thing this morning, WATP 4 miles while the kids napped, and 3 more on the gazelle while watching TV this evening. But then I broke my no eating after 8 PM rule :nono: I had to put away the leftovers from supper and had a few bites before I put it away. I didn't even want it, but couldn't keep it out of my mouth. I feel bad now, but I know those couple bites won't undo all the exercise...at least I hope not. I also got lots of water in, so I feel good about the day overall i guess.

Tomorrow is grocery shopping day and I have my list ready. I am determined not to buy anything not on that list...no matter how loud the kids scream!

Theresa

Melissa - I bet the snacks you bring will be even better than the ones at the fair. Great planning ahead!

Laura - sorry to hear about your son. It's too bad they didn't realize this a couple of months ago. But if they do decide to call it quits, they can probably get it easily annulled and they can send the gifts back in lieu of writing thank yous. I hope your doggie is feeling better and lets you sleep tonight.

melra 08-04-2005 12:46 AM

sandisuze~ great job "loosening up". I love that feeling! (can't wait to get it again!)

Theresa~ omg you are a ROCK STAR! 10 miles! That is really wonderful. And I don't think that the few bites you had of leftovers should be considered shameful...i mean, after all, you had a few bites and then put it back! Sometimes i just want to eat a whole other helping and to put it back after tasting it is, i think, i great thing!

laurab~ sorry your son is still causing you angst. sounds like i should let you compare notes with my mother about HER youngest son. good job though on not letting your sleep deprivation and stress get you off track!

I finally made it here(for a minute!!)

Hi All!!
Well it only took me a week(or so), but I finally got a few minutes to come to the board. It's so great to see everyone posting and giving so much advice and support, I will have to get in here more often!
My WI for the week wasn't what I wanted-only lost .5, but I know it will be better Monday! I'm drinking so much water, I just float around!
I really don't have much time on here tonight, it's past my bedtime, but I have a question for those on WW, or who have been on it--I got a list of points from a lady and I wonder about some of them. Do you just go by the points on the list or use the points calculator? I have found that some things are different. The list says bagels are 6 points, but when I use the calc. it comes out to 4? What do I go by? Of course, I would rather take the 4 over the 6!!!
Also, has anyone heard of the 7 day fat burning diet-cabbage soup? My hubby REALLY wants to try it on his days off(starts Friday)and wants me to do it with him. I just don't think I can eat cabbage soup for breakfast :(
Well, I will check in again tomorrow night. Hope you all have a great, healthy day!!

Kathy

Diets like the cabbage soup thing are only temporary...and torture! You will lose weight if you stay on it, but soon as you go off you will gain it back. My SIL lost over a hundred pounds and has kept it off for like five years now. She uses diets like that now, whenever she feels her jeans getting a bit tight she goes on a quick silly diet until they loosen up, then she eats healthy and exercises to keep it off. The trick is, you can't do that for seven days or whatever then go back to normal eating...it just comes back with a little extra. So be careful!

melra 08-04-2005 10:13 AM

cadwell125 ~ cheers to you on your 3lb loss! :hat:

Thanks everyone for your encouragement; I did much better on diet yesterday! Though it didn't go exactly as planned, I still had enough stuff around the house to make some really good substitutions. Exercise not so good, I got only a little in. It has been really hard to get in workouts this week and I haven't been watching tv or anything, I swear!

sandisuze 08-04-2005 10:17 AM

Purple I agree with you- I really feel the only "trick" to weight loss is eating healthy and exercising. that way you stay at a good weight and will be healthy. I don't think quick fixes work either. ( my 2 cents for the day :D )

When it cold out I make the WW vegetable soup cause it is soo good but I couldn't live on it

My goals for the next 10 days is to exercise at leat 6 days, drink my goal of 40 oz. of water a day and continue to eat better on a daily basis!

Hubby told me last night he is really impressed by my commitment even if I have slipped once or twice I am not giving up like before. I can have an exercise machine of my choice If I keep it up (within Limits of course- darn I wanted a bow flex :strong: ;) ) I have the exercise bike But I really don't care for it-

Now if I can just get hubby to drop a few he'd be better off too- he prolly only needs to lose 25-30 pounds But he eats whatever and whenever.

Keep going everyone !! We can do this !
Break time over- back to work for me..
:comp: Sandi

Hello again!

Don't worry about having a bad eating day yesterday, Jeanne. Just forget about it and move on. I'm sure today will be much better.

Is freecycle some kind of a trade in recycling place? I've never heard of it. Must be one of those things that hasn't caught on here yet. We are always way behind everybody else.

Sorry about your son's troubles, Laura. I hope things work out for the best for him. I can't imagine how much worry it must cause you. Good job staying away from the ice cream and having fruit instead!

Congrats on the loose shorts, sandisuze! That is such a big motivator when clothes start getting baggy. Have fun picking out a new exercise machine!

Kristen glad to hear your feet are feeling better. Good luck with all the walking this weekend!

Theresa great job with all the exercise! 10 miles is great...and I'm sure it more than conpensated for a few bites of leftovers.

Kathy ANY loss is something to be proud of. Great job!

Congrats on the 3 pound loss, cadwell...that's awesome! Moving is a lot of work. Hope you are getting settled in!

Good job sticking with your eating plan, melra. A little exercise is better than no exercise. Just keep working on fitting it in and it'll get easier.

I had a good day yesterday. Stuck to my eating plan and ended up getting some more exercise in the afternoon with a walk and some time on the stationary bike. This morning it's raining so didn't get out for my jog but I did go get on the bike for a half an hour and did my ab workout. It's supposed to be cooler today so I'm hoping it clears off for a while so I can get a good jog or walk in later. I don't know if I will ever get used to drinking so much water. It's getting better but I have a hard time drinking that much in a day, and I always drink too much in the evenings and have to get up too many times overnight. I need to start drinking more earlier in the day.

Hope everybody is having a great and healthy day!

Freecycle is an online giveaway type site done by people in a community- say you have something like a chair/clothes /toys/ whatever (they do have rules about certain items) and you don't want it anymore, then you post it on freecycle, someone needs it, they let you know they want it and then you make arrangements for them to pick it up. It's a good way to get rid of and get stuff. Try www.freecycle.org to see if there's a community around you. you'd be so surprised at what you can give away and what you can find. I've had a lot of fun with it.

neo98292 08-04-2005 11:51 AM

Wow everyone has been busy-I was down for the count last night-darn arthritis was acting up but better today. For the WW points, I go by the calculator myself if I have any doubt about what I am being told for points. The difference in the book could be the weight of the bagel. I highly recommend freecycle. I have not only saved myself trips to either the dump or goodwill, but I have helped those who need it personally and I have also gotten some great stuff. They are nation wide I believe. Freecycle and ebay are my friends lol. Congrats on the move and losing at the same time. It is awesome excersize but usually a time of fast food too so that is a great job! I also agree with the cabbage thing. If it is just couple pounds and extremely short term but I have done those and as soon as I eat "real" again, not only do I gain it back but more too. This is a life style change and those take time-something I am not always so thrilled about.
Well I have to go to the store-found out I got 1 diaper per child-not sure how that happened.

It's just amazing that now that I know what I weigh everything is easier. I can look in the mirror and not pretend that the 65 pounds aren't there. I don't have to feel bad about the clothes in the closet that are too tight, just wear the ones are ok and the others will be fine soon. It really is a relief-thanks to all of you. I really realized that if everyone else here could face the scale, so can I.
I love fitday.com. It's another way to face reality. You can't say it doesn't count, or forget that you ate it. It has really kept me on target.
Re how many calories one should eat a day-I read a post that suggested your goal weight times 10. What do you all think?
Laura
