i WOULD BE MORE THAN HAPPY RIGHT NOW TO SEND CHAI (DOG) WITH YOU!!

tried to post a link to a south beach recepie forum but it wont let me post it.

petra65 07-30-2005 07:28 AM

Curly-I can relate to the bad dog thing but mine is usually food related. My lab will eat anything. I can't turn my back on food for a minute or it is gone. He has eaten steaks and pizza right off the kitchen counter, gotten on the table and eaten food off my plate. If I leave dirty dishes in the sink he will get in the sink and try to lick the plates off. You'd think I didn't feed him. It's a good thing he is so cute. Buddy, on the other hand will eat socks so you better make sure you don't leave any of those around.

L-carnitine mints, huh? I may have to go get some. I think my current dosage is too low. The question of whether or not everyone who is overweight is insulin resistant is controversial. Some people believe that it is only those who are apple shaped as opposed to pear shaped. Although I have a BMI in the high 30's, I am pear shaped, and have none of the medical problems associated with insulin resistance (my blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol are all normal). It seems unlikely that I am insulin resistant. The only way to know for sure is to do a fasting insulin level but no one is going to do that when they are is no compelling reason for it.

I'm missing TLB. Hope she comes back soon. I better go get ready for power yoga.

Hotcupojava 07-30-2005 10:11 AM

Mornin'

Howdy. I'm still chugging along. Still OP. Still having health and mood issues, but trying to "work through them."

I went to the track last night and did a peaceful two miles. It's kind of nice, actually. I'm supposed to meet my bf Pooh Bear there again tonight, but we shall see. The last time I took him there, he was like a little boy: getting into everything, snooping, jumping on things, even jumping in puddles.

I've already done some house work this morning and have more to do before work, but that's life. I'm thinking I'll rent a couple movies for work maybe. Someone left two movies laying in the radio room and I watched them last night (new ones). And it made the evening go mercifully quick. Perhaps I can do that again.

Good luck to all the chicks that roost here. I'll peek in from work and check on ya. Happy week end.

curlylocks 07-30-2005 10:26 AM

well went to CVS this morning and picked up 3 tins of the slim mints... cant hurt to give em a try... I did see this morning that i am down a pound and a half woo hooo!!! Wont make my monthly goal of 10 but i'm pretty close... 10 a month is probably unrealistic but it gives me a goal to strive for...

each mint has 108 mg of L-carnitine and 400mcg of chromium

Lisa_WY 07-30-2005 11:23 AM

Goodbye 230's, Hello 10% and 25lb magnet!!!

I am so happy I went to my meeting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

I was kind of down because I didn't think I did well this week. I didn't get my exercise in like I wanted to because it is Frontier Days and dh is working 15 hour days (2am-5pm and falling into bed at 7:30pm) and I have to take care of all the running for our daughter and dinner and the house ........ and......... I did drink my water and ate ok but even that could of been better so I stepped on the scale and I loss 2.8lbs for a total of official WW 26.2lbs. I even stayed for the meeting to get my magnet and my keychain. It felt so good!!! Yippeee for me!!!!!
Will address everyone after Frontier Days.

momX3 07-30-2005 05:25 PM

Petra - You confused me. I forgot that Curly's name is Lisa and I thought you were talking to me. I was trying to remember what I did to get congratulated on. Congrats on your lose as well!!!

Congratulations to Lisa and Curly on the lose. :cb: :cp: :encore: Way to go girls. Pretty soon we will all be members of the Skinny Minnie's.

Hotcup - That's a great idea watch some movies and get paid. ;)

petra65 07-30-2005 06:47 PM

We have 3 Lisas and 2 Marys! I guess it is a good reason to call people by their screen names so we don't get confused.

My power yoga class this morning was too much! If this had been my first class it would have also been my last. I've had 4 different instructors at my 4 classes so far and this is the only one I can say I really did not like. The class was crowded and she did a lot of advanced stuff even though she knew there were several beginners in the class. It was the first class for one poor guy. He probably won't be able to walk tomorrow.

I looked for those Slim mints today and couldn't find them. I went to Eckerd's and also to Giant. I guess I will have to go to a CVS. I really don't want to go to Walmart. It is always so crowded in there.

I wanted to comment on the calorie issue we were talking about before when Mom was considering switching programs. Several of us on the protein power board have been having trouble eating enough this week, I suspect because of the heat. In fact, my average calories this week have been 1200 which is the lowest since I've been journaling in FitDay (over 2 months) and I only lost 0.5 lbs this week and I exercised 5 days this week. Clearly there is more than calories in and calories out to this equation. This is why WW has a minimum point requirement, and why protein power has a minimum protein requirement (I've had trouble meeting that too) and some other programs have minimums too. You have to eat somewhere around your BMR (basal metabolic rate) to lose or your body thinks it is starving which is what is happening to me this week. This is one of my criticisms of Atkins, it has no minimums so you can easily starve yourself if you don't use some good judgement. I did a little better today. I met my protein minimum and I made it to 1500 calories. I also decided that I would allow my carbs to drift a little over 40 if necessary in order to meet those goals.

Hotcupojava 07-31-2005 12:09 PM

Howdy

Hi Pics! How's your week end going so far? Mine just started. I think Pooh Bear and I are going to pull our vehicles down into the yard and detail them. Perhaps I should wear a tight, white "Wife Beater" and Daisy Dukes? Uhm, like no and stuff? Shorts over my bathing suit it is.

I made HORRIBLE food choices yesterday. Thank goodness for flex points. It's pathetic how many of my flex points I had to use, but at least I had them. Week ends are hard and I hope I can keep it together. The scale is NOT being kind, but perhaps that is a reflection on my poor food choices. When am I going to get my head out of my duffle bag and knuckle down better. Yeah, I can do the water and exercise thing and even stay within my points, but if I'm making poor food choices, who am I trying to kid. I mean 28 points is 28 points, but if you're eating 28 points worth of junk, that's going to reflect SOMEWHERE! C'mon Turtle. You can do SO much better.

A wonderful week end and tons of great luck to all Chicks who roost here. I will talk to you great folks real soon. Time to go put on the bathing suit. Ugh. :barf:

curlylocks 07-31-2005 12:41 PM

what is a white wife beater? never mind i googled it.. lol i love those t shirts i wear em to sleep in with the cotton boxer briefs lmao im styling huh?

why dont u try just giving up all white things, noodles, rice bread, sugars and see if its easier to deal with the food choices that are left... then u can have meats and veggies that will fill u up and u wont be cravin the carbs? just an idea that has worked for me... and tho sb says no fruit I HAVE TO HAVE my apples, granny smiths surprising how they fill u up..

OMG turtle i just looked at ur profile... my birthday is october 14th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

petra65 07-31-2005 02:45 PM

what is a wife beater? This must be something below the mason dixon line.

petra65 07-31-2005 08:06 PM

okay, I googled it so I get the idea. Do they have to be white to be called wife beaters? If not, I have several and wear them to the gym all the time

momX3 07-31-2005 08:38 PM

I tried on more jeans from my pile of clothes that my friend gave me and I fit into the 18's. Yeah!!! I was a 24 when I started this. :D :D Oh, and they are Not the stretch jeans just good old fashion jeans.

Petra & Curly - I never would have figured you guys as a wife beater. :chin:
We use that term here in California as well. I won't wear anything like that because of my BOB's (Big Old Boobs).

Hotcup - At least you have 2 of the 3 down. That is great!! Don't worry the food part will come. My motto is "I ain't putting that in my mouth after I worked my :censored: off for an hour". So to me if I exercise the good eating habits are bound to follow.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

TTYL

Lisa_WY 08-01-2005 08:06 AM

Hopefully my life is normal again!!! The last 3 weeks have really been a challenge. We had the week getting ready for vacation, our vacation and come back to Frontier Days where the whole city is on vacation. LOL M was supposed to start dance camp today but I don't think I am going to send her. It is only from 9-noon so I would have to take her to work with me for 2 hours than Dave would have to pick her up. HE needs sleep. All of us want to get back to a more normal schedule.

M and I went to the rodeo on Saturday and had a blast. I did ok, we got kettle corn to munch on and shared a hot dog and nachos. We did walk around the fair grounds a lot and had to climb a lot of stairs to get to our seats. LOL Then the kiss of death..we went to Pizza Hut for dinner. I planned on being good and had a salad but we ordered pizza and I ate 2 pieces. It could of been worst. (actually pizza ended up being free, we had horrible service and the manager gave it to us) Yesterday we went to the carnival. M didn't have anyone to ride the rides with her so I ended up getting an arm band. She also decided she wanted purple hair to go with her face painting from the day before. I was so sick riding the rides after about the 5th spinning one. I finally had to cool off in the shade, eat something, and find someone else to ride the rides with her. LOL More bad choices...a corn dog and nachos. Good thing I brought 4 bottle waters with us and I drank mostly all of them. We were at the carnival for 6 hours and walked around ALOT. So hopefully not too much damage to the scale. I did find a co workers son to go on the rides with her all afternoon. LOL Better him than me. Cost me a few pops, nachos, and a carmel apple. LOL

Momx3: I have never heard of the term wife beaters either. dave is a little upset because I seem to be losing my BOB's. Your name is Lisa too?

turtle: are you doing WW now? I love the program. I probably ate all my flex points this weekend too. OK...I have 5 days to be back on track! I am planning on working my butt off this week with exercise!!

Curly: I knew your name was Lisa. LOL WE all had to be born in the 60's. Probably around the mid 60's. That name was so popular then...so was my real name..Rene'e. My real name is Rene'e Lisa instead of Lisa Rene'e but my aunt kept calling me Lisa, the hospital messed up my birth certificate and I was 5th of 6th and was supposed to be the "last" Randall born. All of my siblings initals were RLR. My parents decided to leave my name so mine are LRR. Then my parents oppsss and had another child. LOL so the "last" part was wrong. LOL I always felt like I got stuck with the name Lisa. LOL When we adopted M, we wanted to change the spelling of her name to a more tradition one but she knew how to write it by the time it was final, her middle name is Lynn, and we tried to change it to Renee BUT her bio mom wouldn't agree to the adoption unless we left her name the same. We wanted to go back to court before she started school to change it legally but haven't done that yet.

Ok..now that I have written a book, I better go get ready for work!! I am going to the gym today and work out.It will be so good to be back to normal.

Everyone have a great day!!

Still here

Still plugging along. Finally got up the courage to call 2 doctors for appointments for the health (and possibly serious) issues I've been having.

Still meeting my goals, but at the bare minimum.

Found a new magazine at Kroger that I LOVED!!! It's called "Looking Good Now" and I found something for ME on nearly every page. Real people, real issues. No super models and it's all about exercise and weight loss. You should look one up. Maybe it's on line too. Loved it!

Louie 08-01-2005 12:09 PM

I'm baaaaack !!

Hey Partners ~ man did I miss you guys over the weekend. My family about drove me  Nothing worse then driving in a busy city (I was in Seattle) and having 3 people try to give you directions...and they are all different... ahh family ya gotta love them ! We did lots of shopping.. lots of walking.. and did not too bad on the eating. I ate salads where I could to make up for anything that was too evil

Haven't had a chance to read through the board yet, so will try to do that later today and catch up with you all.

Hope you had a great weekend and I am glad to be home.

TTYS ~ TLB :D

petra65 08-01-2005 09:04 PM

Welcome back TLB. Glad you survived the outlaws. Did you know Seattle is supposed to be the fittest city in the US? They have the most fitness centers per capita. I guesss you have to have something to do when it is raining all the time.

I worked 12 hours today and I am beat. I wanted to go the gym today but that ain't happening. I'm thinking about a trip to New Orleans next month. I have a few days off after Labor Day. I work Labor Day weekend and then I took the rest of the week off. I LOVE New Orleans. I'm emailing this guy about renting his condo.

My boys are passed out on the floor here with me. They are so cute. TTYL

Happy birthday Mom. Hey, where is everyone?

petra65 08-03-2005 07:21 AM

Where has everyone been? I been working some long days. I'm hoping I get a break today. I do consults this afternoon which are always unpredictable but Wednesdays are usually slow. I scheduled my personal training session for this afternoon and I plan to go to a power yoga class this evening even though I have to drive to another branch of my gym across town to take it.

I was one of the winners of the July challenge on the protein power board for my consistent journaling. Hope everyone is doing well. Talk to you soon.

momX3 08-03-2005 10:31 AM

I'm Here. Wow, I guess there's not alot going on right now. Or maybe everyone has to much going on :chin:. Either way I hope everyone checks in soon. I am sitting at home waiting for my security company to arrive and fix my alarm. This is the second time it has stopped working. Uggghhh.

Petra - Congrats on the July Challenge :cp:. I hope your personal training goes well today. You are doing really well on the exercise.

Curly - I am going to try to go to the site as soon as I get off here. Thanks!!

I will talk to you ladies later. Enjoy your Wednesday

Louie 08-03-2005 10:56 AM

Good Morning PICS.

Just a quick stop in for me to say hello to everyone.

Happy BDay Mom. Hope you had a wonderful day yesterday.

Still haven't had a chance to read all of the posts yet.. argg where does the time go.

Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday. Take care and TTYS :D

Where are you Lisa?

momX3 08-03-2005 02:14 PM

So while I'm waiting for the alarm company to come fix the alarm I notice the fridge is not working. I call for service and they can't come until Friday (what if I did'nt have another fridge in the garage???? Huh??? Then what???). Anyway's while I am looking for the receipt for the fridge that we bought 17 months ago (can you tell I'm bitter ) I found my Low carb cookbook. 500 Low-Carb Recipes by Dana Carpender. Yeah!!

petra65 08-03-2005 05:33 PM

Hi guys. Just got back from my personal training session and thought I'd share some interesting info. First, despite the fact that I am still like 70 lbs. overweight, I got my body fat done. I have 40.8% body fat which isn't too bad considering. As I suspected, my goal weight of 150 is actually realistic for me because I have a lot of muscle under all this fat, LOL. She was thrilled that I am doing low carb and that I have been able to stick with it for so long. She also gave me some targets for calories I should be eating. This will shock you. On days I don't exercise, I should be eating 1800 calories and on days I do exercise, I should be eating 2200 calories!!! I hope that puts the big calorie debate to rest. I don't know how I can get that many in. I'll be drinking a lot of protein shakes or something. She also wants me to work up to an hour on the treadmill.

It's about 100 degrees here today and I think I'll about melt outside. I've also made reservations and bought a plane ticket to The Big Easy for next month. Something to look forward to although I should probably save the money and spend it on my house. I need new windows and new furniture......... You know how it goes.

I'm planning to go to Power Yoga tonight. TTYL

curlylocks 08-03-2005 07:13 PM

wow that seems like a lot of calories.. i guess cuz we have always been brainwashed with the 1200 calorie diets....

Petra where do u get your protein powder? and what should i look for in a good quality one?

momX3 08-03-2005 08:39 PM

I have been questioning whether or not I am eating enough calories. I think I am getting about 1300-1400 a day on South Beach but when I exercise I can burn up to 800. It does'nt seem like I am getting enough and lately I have been tired. Maybe this is why. :dizzy: It is all so confusing. :?: I want to lose the weight fast but I want to be healthy even more.

momX3 08-03-2005 08:41 PM

Oh yeah and I am doing the presidents challenge for the fat chicks and I am in the top 10 on points. I am number 3 :D.

petra65 08-03-2005 09:14 PM

I get my protein powder at Wegman's. I don't know if you have those down there but a lot of people on the Protein Power board like a brand called Optimum Nutrition so when I run out of what I have I will look around for that.

Mom-there is a tight balance on calories. If you fall too far below your basal metabolic rate, your body thinks you are starving and slows down your metabolism and becomes very difficult to lose weight so you need to eat at least at the level of your BMR every day and on days you exercise you may need to eat more. You may actually be sabotaging yourself by not eating enough. Anyone who has ever done weight watchers can tell you that this a key point in their program. I can also tell you it is true from personal experience.

curlylocks 08-04-2005 07:09 AM

Boy i never thought when i started this that i would reach the point where i couldnt eat enuff... but ive gotten to the point where i really dont get hungry that often and i really cant eat a lot at one time.. i know my calories are not high enuff but i am eating till im full its just not a lot of food.

but i do find myself craving meats... and for some odd reason TUNA.. i can eat it right out of the can..

petra65 08-04-2005 07:44 AM

I think it's the heat curly. I've been having trouble eating recently too. I"ve been trying to graze throughout the day so my calories don't fall too low. Hard boiled eggs, cheese, nuts, etc.

momX3 08-04-2005 10:13 AM

I have been the opposite lately. I keep getting hungry and having to eat my snack or meal earlier then I normally would. This has just been happening over the past 3 days before that I was having the same problem and you guys. Oh well at least I'm still OP. I am having a hard time with the exercise though and I think that is because of the heat.

Have a great day ladies.

Louie 08-04-2005 10:59 AM

Good Morning Partners.

Hope everyone is doing well and surviving the heat. It has been rather warm here as well, and sounds like it will continue until at least Sunday.

I have been busy reading the South Beach book, which I picked up in the States for a very reasonable price compared to here in Canada. It is very similar to the WW core plan, so I may just stick with WW and switch from flex to core. I will decide over the weekend, once the company goes home and life gets back to normal.

I just arrived at work, so better get cracking. Have a great day and talk to you all soon.

TLB :D

curlylocks 08-04-2005 11:31 AM
