It was indeed a busy weekend for us all, it sounds. There's something about Memorial Day weekend and it signaling the beginning of summer that makes it feel more like a party weekend. So does the the 4th of July! I, too, (big shock) was off plan over the weekend. I enjoyed BBQ, beer and fun. I got right back to it on Monday, though. Or at least I have been doing much better. My mom and dad are celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary over the weekend of the 4th of July and that gives me a goal to look forward to. I want to be comfy in my shorts by then. Even though I ate badly over the weekend I really thought about what kind of program I need to be on, what works for me, and truly it's portion control. If I ate the "bad" things in smaller quantities I wouldn't have such a problem. So, I decided to go back to my unofficially titled "Single Chick Diet" . It worked for me.
Holly- So, glad the ride went great...sorry about the icky sister...
Trina- You did great on the sales! It sounds like you had a great time with the family and I bet the grandbaby is a little dolly!
I told dh that if the 3 of us lived closer together we would probably be the best of friends and hang out lots...that would be so great!!
My grandparents went to Vegas and just a nice vacation for the week, so mom and I painted grandma's kitchen yesterday. She will be so surprised that it finally got done! She asked us last year around the wedding, but things were way too crazy for us then.
Andrea - I need details on your "Single Chick Diet" please. I love the name you gave it - it rocks.....
If we three lived within 100 miles of each other - those bike tires would be hot on the road! It would be great. I too told my DH about you two (ofcourse I don't really know that men can understand how chicks can bond via e-mails? I think they just smile at us and think what??????)
Your grandma is gonna love that you painted for her. Afew years back, my sons and I did a similar thing for my mom - we put outdoor Christmas lights up for her when she was away, becuz her DH never would and she always loved them. Now every year her DH puts them up.....lol
LOL Trina on my "Single Chick Diet". Basically its whatever is cheap, nuked, and you don't have to do dishes. In my case it was toast or yogurt, Slim Fast, some fruit, and Cheapo versions of Lean Cuisine with a side of canned green beans. I think that my total grocery bill in a week's time was $20 or under. I loved it! I never had to cook, did very few dishes, so that kept me out of the kitchen. Back in the day I was a real economist. If I drank it was on an empty stomach (cheap drunk) or I would cut my beer buying cost with an occasional tequila shot and only a few beers. Remember, I was a young, single, party girl! Plus, I didn't (still don't) drink every day. Usually it's 1-2 weekend nights ans sometimes not even that. Either way, it worked! Oh, and I did exercise quite a bit.
It is nice to do something for someone that enjoys Christmas lights or house painting that they can no longer do.
Dh does the same thing when I talk about you girls. Its hard for him to believe that you can talk to real people through a machine.
Andrea - Glad you posted - I'm quite bored. NOT meaning that I don't always love your posts.....lol
Your 'Single Chick Diet' sounds like a winner. so much so, that I bet if you could market it. I never liked to cook anyhow!
When I was single, I did the same when going out drinkng, would have afew shots beforehand (just incase there were no guys dying to buy me and my girlfriends drinks - lol). Then after I met DH, we still did the same thing. The bar drinks don't even give you a buzz some nights.....it's like drinking whatever the mix is......ahhh - those were the days....
Now after two years of wedded bliss, we sit in front of the tv until we fall asleep, where he starts to snore and I wake him up to go to bed - ain't love grand?????
Star- That is so funny and true about dh's falling asleep watching tv. Mine does the same thing! That is so true about bar drinks. Beer is always cheaper, but if you aren't a beer drinker or don't want all the extra calories, then you end up buying several mixed drinks to get the same effect. We went out one night a few months back and I tried drinking a couple vodka and diet cokes, but all I could taste was the ice. So, now I either do my own at home and order the lowest calorie beer when we do go out. Either way, the bar life gets expensive and we don't do it very often.
Well, today I have no real plans, which is nice. Just mostly hanging out with my mom! We are heading out to Walmart, but I will pop back in later.
Andrea -
WalMart with your mom sounds wonderful to me! I plan on doing that this Saturday or else taking her where ever she wants to go....I know eating will be in there too.
Trina
That sounds like fun, Trina. My mom and I are best friends, which is great. It sounds like you are very close to yours as well. Is your mom super young looking, too? My mom is 53 and she looks very young as well. I'm hoping I inherited enough of her (and grandmas) genes!!
Reb - yes I'm very close to my mom and she is beautiful, very Swedish looking. But better yet she is the sweetest person you'd ever want to meet. When I was little I wanted to grow up to look and act just like her. Well I gave up on that dream years ago.......lol
About your mom - OH MY GOSH - I'm two years older than her - now I really feel old...
But like I tell all my friends - age is only a number!!! Someone told me yesterday when I was at lunch with Amanda and GB Dave that I looked too young to be a grandma. I just said well thank you very much, but I really love being a grandma.
Having two sons and a step-son, I'm really enjoying my three DIL's. One, Katie I have known since she was in 6th grade. Amanda is from Oklahoma and a sweetheart. Sara is a paramedic/nurse and works all the time, she's my StepDIL.....if there is such a thing....lol I bought them all Ugg Boots for Christmas and Hair cuts/Hi-lites for Mothers Day.
Going to get a hair cut and color after work, just in afew mintues. I'll be a new chick in a couple hours. Wish me luck with the new doo....
Hey Trina- I am so curious about the new 'do!! What do you think of it? Tell us all the details...
I bet your DIL's really adore you...you'd be a great MIL!!!
Not much happening today, here. I am kinda bored actually...
Oh, my mom used a chemical straightener on my hair yesterday and it turned out really good. My hair is so thick and tight curled when I wear it natural...it feels so much more relaxed now.
Hi Andrea - Wonder where Holly is? Probably out running the streets again.....zoom-zoom
This is my new hair doo No really, it turned out great. Got it cut to just above the shoulder, long layers, some bangs, hi-lites. It looks better than the long hair becuz I think that was dragging my face down....so I like it!
My DIL's do like me and I adore them. I just lucked out in that area. My oldest son was actually engaged to a girl that would have been a very bad DIL....she had 4 kids from 3 different guys, loved to drink and wore a black leather mini skirt with halter top to my mom's house for Christmas one year. Needless to say when she went out on him and he found out I was really happy Then it was a miracle and he started talking to Amanda on the phone and she lived in OK and he was in MI....I'm certain it was an act of God. Hence, I call Amanda our
Hey I'm glad you like your hair too - it makes us feel good when we have good hair.......
LOL, about the mini skirt girl! My brother has had doozies of girlfriends. It seems that if my mom expresses a dislike of one, he hangs onto her that much longer. He actually went out with one for several years, but they just parted ways. She still comes around and is very close with our family. We think of her as family and maybe someday when they both grow up they will have a future together. I think that my brother is undecided. He was going to get married, but they called off the marriage and are just dating, but I dont think his heart is into her. He is very young, still lives with my parents, and is a VERY talented musician. He just has some growing up to do.
Yeah, I bet Holly is burning up the Vermont roads! I hope she's having great weather. Its rainy and dreary here.
Your hair sounds so cute, I bet it looks great.
Well, I'm going to get a cup of coffee...be back in a few...
Hello!!! yes, Cupcake's been burning up the Vermont roads Thursday was our first day of being absolutely beautiful...did about 100 miles. Then took the long way home from work Friday (though Smuggler's Notch, a technical but FUN!! ride and adds 30 miles to my way home ) then half a day of work Saturday, then our poker run yesterday!!
regular work day today, and prep for tomorrow, which I have off...then have a scheduled ride with our friend from southern VT AND a guy from our mc board who is doing a cross-country jaunt, and is now in Vermont.
ate two heavy meals AND three? or four Coronas yesterday, sure was good - back to the regimen today
ttyl!!! congrats on loving your 'do, Star...I agree, sometimes length can drag our faces down...god knows we don't need that at our ages
