Hi everyone!

Angie: Welcome to the group! I have heard good things about the elleptical. How are you enjoying it? Sorry to hear about your friend lack of tack... Hang in there!

FMinPA: You might have made a mistake but you ate lots of veggies and drank lots of water which is great!! Keep going and it won't show at the end of the week!

Selena: Way to go, sounds like you are doing great!! Keep it up!

Paige: Great idea about taking a family picture as a reward for reaching a goal! I will join you in using that as a reward.

Sara: If you stayed within your points then you didn't fail!! You have to right attitude when you say you won't quit!! It would only be worst if you did quit so hang in there and it will get better and easier. The first few weeks are the hardest then it becomes so much easier, second nature. I hope your weigh-in goes well so you'll be encouraged!! Is your weigh in on Fridays? I will join in the water challenge but if it's ok I will keep my goal at 4 glass so 32 oz for the moment. I need to succeed at first to be encouraged and I know I would not be able to handle 8 glasses right away (my bladder just coudn't handle it, hi hi). Hopefully, I will build up to more soon.

FMinPA: Hi Christina! I too have to increase my veggies so has to be full, because I have been feeling hungry a lot this week. I know if I keep with eating better my body will get use to the new portions size. But this week isn't easy. I think with time when we start feeling so much better eating the healthy food we probably will enjoy them more. We just have to stick with it! We will make it to 175!

Christy: I agree with you, weekends are tough! That sure is my biggest challenge. Hope you ended up enjoying being outside.

Michelle: Thanks for the list! I will make it easier to keep track of everyone. How about a new post every week? I personnally like to go back to my last posted message and read from there. So too many messages might make it harder to keep track. I like the challenge idea, but I would once again make it weekly so if I can't read up one day I didn't miss it and I can keep up the challenge. Maybe start a weekly thread with a challenge. Just an idea!

Jen: Welcome to this group! Sounds like a good plan to lose weight : ) Looking forward to getting to know you!

Sara: Thanks for your support too!

As for me, today was hard since it was DH's birthday and I cooked all day, but even if I wasn't perfert, I'm happy I did so much better than I would have in the past. I only had one serving at supper and a sliver piece of cake and actually didn't miss not having more ( :o I used to eat two pieces!) Not much water today though, but tommorrow I will be back on track with the water. I also play ice hockey tommorrow which will help me start my week more actively!

Hope it's a good week for everyone! Heathy choices everyone! :cheer: :goodluck:

GiddyupKaos 02-21-2005 06:53 AM

Good Morning girls...I am getting my clothes together for Curves and making me the MOCK pancakes (SouthBeach Style!)...we will see how those turn out...I am running late...but wanted to say GOOD MORNING!! I will be back, as soon as I get to work!! Today is my 2 week WEIGH-IN!! Eekkk!! :p
Have a GREAT DAY EVERYONE!!
Selena :)

thechangingtable 02-21-2005 07:59 AM

Good morning ladies! hope everyone had a great weekend. I admit, the weekends are HARD for me. All the kids want is junk! I have little willpower, so I give in and eat the leftovers! Ugh!

Those natural cheetos! i need to stop buying them. I did buy more fruit and veggies, so hopefully I can learn to eat those instead of grabbing the cheetos!

I drank my water and took my vitamins faithfully. I did 4 minutes on my elliptical a couple of times on Friday and again Saturday. Only 2 minutes on Sunday. I did not buy or drink any coke/soda. Made iced tea instead. I did weigh myself and the scale read 214 (which is my high that I keep flip flopping back and forth to). Depressing.

Been good avoiding dairy. Off to drink some water and maybe a couple of minutes on the elliptical. Whoo wee!

michellejy 02-21-2005 09:17 AM

Hey, all... sounds like the concensus is to keep this thread going and have a weekly (rather than daily challenge as well). That seems like a great idea. It will make it easy to keep track of the weekly challenge by having it in a different place, and we can still keep welcoming the newbies and directing them to the challenges here.

I'm going to start a weekly challenge... I'll post a link in a minute.

michellejy 02-21-2005 09:28 AM

Okay, I posted a new challenge thread here: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53789

Hopefully, this will be an easy start for most of us, but it's a good habit to get into.

palemoonnight 02-21-2005 10:45 AM

I am really excited about the new weekly challenges. I NEVER drink enough water! now I have a new way to motivate myself on it!

girly 02-21-2005 11:59 AM

Goodmorning! Just getting off work. Survived the weekend! Didn't do as well as I wanted but didn't do bad either. It really is hard because the people I work with have food around ALL of the time. Last night ordered pizza. So I ate two peices. It was chicken white pizza. The good thing is that one of the girls brought in cupcakes and I didn't make a point that I wasn't eating mine I just put it in my lunch box and brought it home for hubby. Yay!!! I didn't eat the cupcake at least.

Today is suppose to be my weigh in. Right now actually. But after being on my feet for the past 12 hours my legs are VERY swollen. I really don't want to be discouraged. So I am putting off my weigh in. I will have to look and see when I can go again.

But today I am going to get in all of my water and try to get rid of some of the extra water weight I'm sure I put on this weekend. It really is rediculous how intimidated I am by the darn scale. :chicken:

 Hi Paige! How did your weekend go? I hope you had a wonderful weekend? Was it busy for you? How are you doing today? I hope you are having a wonderful day.

 Marie, you are so right about it being okay to eat the junk once in a while if within points/cal. I appreciate you saying that. Sometimes I think I get so fixed on being perfect that I finally give up because I'm not perfect. I agree the challenge should be posted the day before so we are prepared the day of :D I am so impressed with your workout routine. Wow!!! You do great. Have a great day.

 Hi Ann, It sounds like you did great eating well under pressure. :D It is difficult now to eat out or have special occasions. At least for me. But I think that might get easier also. Hope you all had a wonderful day celebrating DH bday.

 FMinPA, goodmorning. How is your day going? I hope great. How was yur weekend? Busy?

 Selena, I'm sending good scale wishes your way.:goodscale I hope your weigh in goes great. And hope you enjoyed your workout. Have a good day at work.

 Christine. The weekends are hard for me too. Don't really know why. I am sorry you are struggling with those two pounds. that has to be so hard for you. You sound like you are really sticking to your guns though. It sounds like you are doing so good. Yay!!!!!

 Hi Michelle, thanks for starting that great challenge thread. That is wonderful.

 Christy, Goodmorning. Hope you are having a great day. The challenges are exciting. I need to get my water now.

Just so you all know if you want to you can change your settings so when you open a thread it goes to the most recent posts first instead of the post at the begining. So you can start on this thread from here instead of where you have already read. It is in you user cp under settings I think???

I think I am going to get a charm bracelet also to reward myself. I love that idea. Does anyone else have a reward system? I can't wait until I start wanting to go clothes shopping again. that is going to be a huge reward to give myself. Not even buying just having the desire to go.

Does everyone here have a special weigh in day or do some of you just weigh whenever?

I will check in later. I look forward to hearing how all of you are doing today.

girly 02-21-2005 12:07 PM

Check out our thread. It has reached new status. It is now a "hot thread" :D

We ROCK!!!!

GiddyupKaos 02-21-2005 12:29 PM

Hey Everyone!! WOW!! Our little thread is kicking!! I LOVE IT!! :cb:
I weighed this morning and was a little disappointed..I lost 1 pound...but decided a pound is a POUND!! That's "7" pounds in 2 weeks...now how can I be disappointed in that!!??? ;)
I love the water challenge thing...and will definitely post over there in a minute...I have such a HARD TIME getting all my water in...I should drink at least 100 oz per day...eekkkkkkkkkkkk...I feel like I am floating today all ready...I've gotten down 48 oz...and still going!! Whew!!!
I will be back after lunch!!
Selena :)

Hello ladies....My name is Jamie, i am 29 yrs. old. Married for almost 6yrs (been together almost 13yrs) We have 2 sons. JJ is 5 and NJ is 11. I have been slowly gaining weight for a few years now. I noticed the weight gain and tried to diet and exercise to lose it but was unable to. I found out last week that I have hypothyroidism and high blood pressure. I must lose this weight. I am now on medication for both. My husband has been with me through it all. He is supportive but I can not talk to him like I would a girlfriend. I am looking forward to checking in with you all daily.

Ok so I started dieting last week because of the visit to the doctor. I have lost 4# so far. I know I will not lose that much each time but it felt GREAT this morning to see the scale go below 190. I have been stuck there for a couple of yrs now. For exercise I have been getting up early and working out to the Fit Tv channel. I do not have any workout tapes or anything to watch and I like this channel because it is not the same workout all the time. It gives me the variety I need. I am looking to lose around 60lbs. In the summer we go camping every weekend on property we have located on the Illinois River. Yes we go boating alot. I did not even put on a swim suit this past year. I would wear a tshirt and shorts instead. I really would love to put on a suit this year and see the look on my hubby's face. LOL

Talk to you all later. Have a great day.

PS sorry for making my reply so long. Sometimes I can't shut up!!! LOL

palemoonnight 02-21-2005 01:05 PM

hey Jamie! good job on the weight loss! 4 lbs! way to go! in case you dont know we are having little weekly challenges for all us newbies. This week is 48oz of water a day. Doesnt really seem like a lot, but if you are like me and dont drink alot of water it can be tough, I am doing pretty good today, I am already half way there and it isnt even noon!

jmepudge 02-21-2005 01:53 PM

I caught bits and pieces of the challange but was not sure what it was. I will gladly participate. I have been giving up my soda for water so I will have to see if I can do it. I have had about 20oz today so far. Let the fun begin!!!LOL

fatmommyinPA 02-21-2005 02:45 PM

Hello everyone .........I think I had a pretty good weekend I ate sensibly and have had no pepsi since thursday .....and I do not really miss it ....I've been drinking water and ice tea w/ splenda (that satisfies me ) ......yesterday I did THE FIRM abs workout 1 in the afternoon and workout 2 in the evening and then I jogged down my block and back which is a HUGE hill .....its easy to run down but then you gotta come back up ....my hubby dared me to do that after dinner and I did and think I'll do it every evening ........felt good to work of my meal ......Although I do work on tues and weds evening so on those days I guess I'll have to do something else .........We have a gym at work which is free to employees but I am not sure it is unlocked at 11 when I got off my shift .....I used to go to it when I worked the daylight shift .....I used to work fulltime daylight ( I am a nursing assistant ) .....just recently I started working on a casual basis where I make my own hours .....now I work mostly evening and some daylight on weekends .......I am supposed to be strating college next semester as long as all my grants and loans are approved so I can afford it .......So not only am I embarking on this weight loss journey but my entire life is going to get really crazy here pretty soon .......But I always said when my kids got older and started school I was gonna go to college and become a nurse .......Lots of changing are coming my way ......but I think I am ready to take control of my life

fatmommyinPA 02-21-2005 02:47 PM

oh I forgot .......I dont own a scale at home soooo I have to use the scale at work .....I have always done that in the past ....so I will weigh myself tomorrow when I work ......I havent seen a scale since I started this last week

jmepudge 02-21-2005 03:17 PM

Ok girls.......how often do you all weight in??? I usually try to do it weekly. Is that what most of you do?? Just wondering if i do it to often.

Need advice.....My husband has been working out of state for a while. We live in Illinois and he has been in Virgina for a couple of months. He is coming home tomorrow. It is very hard to lose weight with him around. I do not like to exercise when he is around unless it is walking. Food is horrible with him and the kids. They do not like much. They are all picky eaters. They would live on burgers and fries if I would let them. I need help. I get so tired of making 2 meals so I can lose weight. I have tried South Beach before and was doing good until money got tight. I think that is my biggest down fall. It is cheaper to buy the bad things. Does anyone else have to make their meal apart from their families???

thechangingtable 02-21-2005 03:52 PM

jme, i can relate. i don't have a dh to please, but i am trying to get the whole family to eat healthy. It it not easy. But when we go food shopping we look at the boxes and I taught them how to look at fat grams and sodium. I do not make 2 meals, i just eat what they eat (usually) and if they want something in addition to the healthy food, then I make that for them. Eating good does mean a higher grocery bill for us too.

So, get the kids to eat better overall then work on hubby. Good Luck!

christine

girly 02-21-2005 06:07 PM

Jamie, Hi! Welcome. There seems to be a LOT of super supportive ladies posting in this thread so I am so glad you are here to now. Congratulations on your progress so far. 4 pounds is wonderful. It sounds like you are working really hard on this. I really know what you are saying about the kids and husband being picky. I swear my family really makes it hard sometime. I talked to my husband this weekend when he brought home KFC for me. I told him that I really needed to lose weight for myself so I could have more confidence in myself and be a better wife and mom. He felt bad for bringing me the KFC and said he is just trying to be nice. He then asked me to make him a list of foods I can eat so he can suprise me with dinner on the nights I work. I thought that was the sweetest thing. He is trying really hard. He also said he would try to eat the nutritious food I cook. But he thinks vegetables are the enemy. I have been looking for recipes that are low cal low fat that I could sneek the nutrition to family. If I have any I think you might like I will PM them to you if you would like?? It is sooooo expensive to buy good groceries. But I figure so is a lot of the junk food and fast food that we buy. So that is how I justify the groc bill?

I had to laugh when you said you didn't exercise in front of your dh. I don't either. I don't know why but it makes me very self conscious. I was glad to see someone else felt that way. We got the DDR game for the Xbox and I was going to do it with my son. My dh keeps telling me all weekend to get it out and I was trying to find a reason to tell him no without him knowing it was because I was too embarrased with him there???? Sad huh?

Thank you for introducing yourself and sharing so much. You definately didn't write too much. It was nice to get to know you.

girly 02-21-2005 06:18 PM

Selena, Yay!!!!!! :dancer: :cp: One less pound to go to unveil the PHAT chick inside!!!! That is wonderful. I know it seems like it will take forever with one pound at a time. But every week you will lose differently, some more some less. You already know that of course. You are close to having 10 pounds gone forever! and after only two weeks. You ROCK:cb:

I bet you are close to losing a size already too.

Congrats :bravo:

girly 02-21-2005 06:25 PM

FMinPA, it sounds like you did really well this weekend. You are going to be dropping the pounds with how dedicated you are. :cp: It sounds like you are making a lot of really big changes in yourself. Thank heavens you are going to have a little time to adjust to eating well before you start school. Hopefully you will be set in your thin healthy ways when school starts and you have a new challenge to face. Congratulations though on going to school. That is great!

and good luck on your weigh in tomorrow. Sending good scale vibes your way :goodscale . You wont need them though because you are doing so great.

Take Care and have a great night.

That is so impressive! My mom always worked from home when we were younger, but by the time my youngest brother hit high school, she was ready to follow her own dreams. She went to college and became an RN, something she had wanted to do since she was 12! It's no wonder my mom is my hero, huh?

Good luck to you!

I don't like to exercise when my husband is around either, but I gave in and just did it over the weekend. I'm doing this for me, and if I let something as insignificant as him being in the same house stop me, then I know I'll find any excuse not to exercise.

My daughter is a picky eater, and my husband thinks that meat needs to be the largest portion of every meal (while I ate vegetarian most of the time before moving in with him because I don't really like meat). I started experimenting with food more and found things that everyone likes. I also decided that it's not right for everyone else to always have what they want and deprive myself so sometimes I make vegetarian food, and as long as it isn't every night, my hubby doesn't complain.

I don't cook separate meals for myself, but I eat smaller portions of the same meals they are having. I also tend to cook with light versions of everything (light sour cream, lean meat, etc.) Trust me, even I can't tell the difference when it's done, and I know what went into it!

girly 02-21-2005 06:53 PM

Christine, I like the message under your name. "first stop....." :D That is wonderful that you are teaching your kids to be aware of what they are eating. I think I will start doing that with ds, dh is already starting to convert. I have caught him reading labels lately. ;)

Christy, sorry I missed your post! Congratulations on your water intake. It is HARD to drink this much water when your not use to it. I need to go get some water right now and catch up with you!!!

Well, off to cook dinner. You all have a great night. I will check in later.

JLoubug 02-21-2005 08:22 PM

Hi everyone!
My long week-end is almost over and I don't know where it went. My son, 21 and in the Army, was home from Kansas for 2 days. He drove all the way to Ohio! Great to see him! Of course we had to take him to the Olive Garden, his favorite restaurant, but other than that I don't feel like I was too bad. I took 1/2 of my dinner home anyway; way too much food!
Dentist appt. went well this morning. No cavities!!!
Went out for brunch this morning with my sister. Then did a little shopping. I wish that counted as exercise.
Hopefully the weather will start warming up soon. I love being outside when it isn't so cold. We had a little tease of Spring here, but then it got cold again. Love working in the yard, and taking long walks with my dogs; husband too, if I can get him to go.
I did weigh myself this morning. Aaaarrrggg, that was depressing. Hopefully having a not so great, calorie-wise, brunch, but a sensible dinner, will even itself out for tomorrow. I have a bad habit of weighing myself every morning, most times I skip the week-ends. There are pros and cons to it; like when it goes down it's a pro, and when it goes up it's a con.
It's not too late to work out on the elliptical, so I'm going to do it. I need to get a start on tomorrow's scale. Thanks for the idea and the reminder! I said I needed to exercise more didn't I?
Tomorrow I will make the water challenge, 48 oz..
Peace,
Jen

selkiesa 02-21-2005 08:55 PM

Hi again. Sorry I didn't post again till now. Lousy weekend (and today) for me, so I'll try again tommorow. I twisted my knee somehow this weekend, and it still hurts a little. I managed to do 5 minutes on the treadmill Saturday, but then had to stop. At the end of last August, I was doing 30 minutes without a break. Got to work back up to it. *Sigh*

detk1320: The Cruise diet is basically the idea that you "accept" your weight, and stop emotional eating. The book also gives you a breakdown of what to eat (basic dinner plate, top half vegetables, bottom half split into 2-protein and carbs, with a teaspoon of fat) and exercises each morning. The exercises aren't supposed to take more than "8 minutes," the idea being to start busy people exercising, and working up energy to do more. Good in theory, but I don't know yet.

michellejy-love the list. Thanks.

Marie: The money pot sounds like a great idea. I've been tracking what I spend in an attempt to save money, but maybe this would help me lose weight-more important even then saving money, IMO.

I think I might start a journal, though I probably won't post there everyday either.

fatmommyinPA 02-21-2005 09:28 PM

My muscles ache ...........

 Ohhhhh....I think I made the mistake of going from not exercising at all to too much to soon .......I'm scared of how I am gonna feel in the morning ..... I did THE FIRM abs workout 1 and 2 yesterday and ran down my big hill and back ....then today I did THE FIRM Complete Aerobics in the afternoon and then abs workout 1 in the evening ...it is 9 and I am aching ....and in misery.......I am drinking all this water so then I gotta go up the steps to go pee all the time  I think I will take tomorrow off cause I dont wanna start beleiving exercise is the enemy ....I keep telling myself that I will get over this initial pain ...I am using muscles I did not know I had  Well I am gonna go watch some TV and have a snack ( celery sticks ....mmmmm) :hungry: See y'all tomorrow :dancer:

 FMinPA! Wow you are an exercise maniac!!! :tread: Woo hoo! Is the firm for abs a long workout or is it like abs of steal just a quick abd workout that is focused?

 Hi Joana, Thanks for joining us here. The more the merrier. It sounds like you have your hands full. You are going to be looking good when you walk up to accept your law degree. Congratulations on your great loss so far! That is a great loss.

GOOD MORNING LADIES! While you are reading this, maybe you can go and get a glass of water to drink while you catch up on messages. Don't spill any on the computer though!

After you have finished reading the messages, go and walk for 30 minutes, or get on the treadmill/elliptical for as long as you can or while you are watching the Today show, get up and stand behind your chair and do leg stretches behind you, or crunches or stretches.

We can do it! Lets get motivated. STRETCH!!!!

Good Morning All ...

I would love to join in with guys ... if I could! My name is Donna and I just joined last night. I have been trying to lose 40-50 lbs. for what seems to be forever. Although, since January 2005 - I've really put my heart into it and I can see a difference. I am not on a certain diet ... I'm just watching what I eat and am very aware with what I'm putting into my body. I get up every morning at 5:30 to work out 30-45 minutes before getting ready for work. I HATE the first 5-10 minutes. But, by the time I'm done and I'm finished with my shower, I'm so glad I did it and I'm so proud of myself ... it's a GREAT way to start my day.
I'm 32 years old and I have 1 beautiful daughter ... age 8 who is going on 15. Auuuggghhhh!!!
I hope you guys don't mind that I join ... I could use all the support I can get and I promise to return the favor. I have a lot of catching up to do with the past posts. I'll touch base with you guys later tonight.

Take Care & Have A Great Day!
Always Remember To Smile!! :)

Good Morning!!!! Hope you all had a wonderful day yesterday. I started late in the day with the water but did get about 40oz in. I forgot my big cup at home so while I am at work today I have to use a little 6 oz cup. At least I will get some exercise walking to the water cooler!!! LOL

I did not get my workout in yesterday. I feel horrible and guilty today for not doing it. I wish the weather would be nice so I could walk outside. It would be so much easier.

I am glad to hear I am not alone by feeling uncomfortable working out in front of hubby. I don't mind if he is in the house but I do not want him in the same room with me. I just can't do it. Maybe once I lose a little more I will feel more comfortable.

I love the smilies. Just do not know how to add to my messages. I have to get to work so I will check in later in the day.

Welcome Joana, Tess, Tamie, and Donna. With the support and motivation from all of us....WE CAN DO IT!!!!

I'm reading everyone's posts ... You ALL are such a motivation! I'm so glad I'm part of this group. We'll all get through this together!!

Count me in

Hopefully I can still join you. :^: I started Weight Watchers in Sept. 04 and lost 15 pounds and I was on South Beach before that and lost 20 pounds. I moved to WW because SB was SO limited. I like WW b/c you can eat in moderation whatever you want. I am 33 and want to lose weight for health reasons and to wear nice clothes again. I've always been overweight but have never had a consistent weight loss like I've been doing. It's frustrating and sometimes I feel I will eat everything in the icebox. Thanks for your support in all this. I am glad that I am not alone. :thanks:

Starting again!

Hi Group!
I'm Ellen. I'm 46 and feelin' pretty low about me these days due to my weight gain of 30 pounds over the past couple of years.

I'd lived down south where I exercised by running/walking nightly 5 miles without fail, and had never had this type of weight problem. However, I moved up north and have put on the weight. I actually need to lose 60 at this point to get to my goal weight. I'd put on 20 before moving here because I'd become depressed and anxious. Here it snows in the winter and the ice really intimidates me. I rarely get out to exercise anymore. I work from home at a sedentary computer job eight hours a day also.

I joined Curves some time back but haven't been very consistent. I want so badly to get my energy to a higher level, and I got the book and am beginning on the Curves diet. I posted a few weeks ago on this site when I was really feeling enthused, but since then have fallen back into old ways and actually gained more weight. sigh.

I have to hold off on the exercise right now because last week my blood pressure went way up. IT had been borderline high for some time. My doc had me taper off an antidepressant I've been on, so i'm doing that, as it can cause blood pressure to elevate. He also had me have tests done to look at my heart at the hospital and wants me to hold off exercising until the results are in. So I'm in limbo right now. I want to go out and walk or go to Curves, but I have to wait until we know if there is anything wrong. he also put me on high blood pressure medication to see how it will do.

This is all very depressing for me, as I've lived my life without a weight problem, without health problems, and just now am realizing that getting older is kind of scary. I want to get healthy and light and free from depression again. My marriage is not happy, but I'm making the best of it right now. My oldest daughter has told me I must take control of my life. This is my attempt. I would really love to have support. Hopefully my next post will be more upbeat and I won't sound like Eeyore!

Thanks for being there. I'm looking forward to the encouragement and hopefully encouraging someone else as well.

Ellen

I want in on this!

I'm Erin, and I turn 24 on Thursday. I am single and love my career in Higher Education. I moved 120 miles away from my family and friends six months ago and been adjusting to my new life.

I've been heavy all my life, but was at my thinnest in high school, around 170 lbs. I'm 5'9" and currently weigh 243, down from 249 after four weeks of a completel lifestyle change. I've limited myself to below 1400 calories a day, down from around 3200. I'm working out at least 5 days a week, 3 of cardio and weights, 2 of yoga-- this is a drastic change from napping daily after work and sleeping 8-9hrs a night.

I'm all alone right now with no friends or family as motivators. I hope you gals can keep me on track, and I hope to do the same for you!

Hi All!
I drank all my water today, 48 oz., and am still going! After work today, I had an apple for a snack! I am going to have to go to the grocery store soon; stay away from the snacky aisle. You people have motivated me! Let's keep going!
Last night, I worked out like I said I would. I didn't really want to, but afterward felt really good. It gives you a feeling of accomplishment, which in turn makes me want to continue to my goal!
Have you drank your water today?
Peace,
Jen
