Calorie Counters Clublette
Yo! :coach: Testing the waters as to whether there's any interest in having a thread just for calorie counters, those folkettes, like me, who believe that when all the dust settles on all the diet plans in the whole universe, the truth is that calories really do count and you have to count 'em! :) I'm on hiatus from posting a lot due to time, stress, etc., but would love to share quick daily calorie counts and/or calorie goals (or weekly or whatever) and any light conversation :gossip: about diet and/or calorie counting with fellow dedicated CALORIE COUNTERETTES. (Can I have said "calorie counting" anymore times! :lol3: ) Guess this would also include exercise, as exercise is the obverse of eating in the "diet" equation.
|
Amarantha, please sign me up for the Calorie Counterette Clublette. What a brilliant idea, you are SO clever!
Amarantha's Friday Calorie Count: 2300  Exercise Calories Burned: Approx. 120 (one hour of slow weight lifting. I figure all exercise at a minimum of 4 calories per minute, it's probably somewhat more). |
Sign me up!
I am not following any strict plan (except that I do use Slimfast quite a bit for my meals) but I am staying between 1200-1500 calories a day and although it is slow going it seems to be working! :crossed: I also go to the gym but have not been because of some major overtime I have been working. That will end by Tuesday so I'll be back there. :tread: So starting tomorrow I will post my daily calories/calories burned. Great idea Amarantha! Lynn |
Yowza!
Greetings Calorie Counterette Wisertime!!! Huzzah! I like Slimfast, too! Am pledging myself to brevity on this thread but wanted to say hi. I'll be back tonight with my calorie numbers (when I'm done eating)! :cofdate:
It's tonight! :coffee: Calories 2725, Exercise Calories Burned 240 (60 min circuit training)! Weigh in tomorrow and calorie reduction begins! Huzzah! |
Yes, I'd be interested as well. Maybe we could invite all those who responded to EE25 "question about the board" under the Buddy Up thread and the moderators could add CALORIE COUNTING under the General Diet Plans forum. I think there are a lot of calories counters out there right now that kind of go from place to place.
|
Sunday goal
Yo! Welcome A Broad Abroad!!! Your dog is adorable! Good ideas about inviting people and maybe moving the thread to general diet plans. I kind of like the miscellaneous club section and personally would probably stay on here but a calorie group on general diet plans would be good, too. Edited in: Just checked the general diet plans section and actually there's already a group on there "Doing It the Old-Fashioned Way" that's kind of oriented to calorie counters, although the posters are on all different plans. I remember this group and it did start out as a calorie counters' thingie, so that's one option for posting.
I got the idea for this thread from another forum that just had a place for calorie counters to post their goals and daily calories ... kind of a "clublette" I guess :lol3: Anyhoo, guys, as predicted I'm up 10 pounds from my most recent low and this is not acceptible at all to me and today starts my calorie reduction plan. I can't cut too drastically on any given day and I do not believe in starving myself either, but I can improve my numbers over time. SO I will sliiiiiide down the number scale bit by bit and improve my exercise consistency over the next few weeks! :chin: Calorie goal for Sunday: 2000! |
I agree, Am. Calories count, absolutely! I FINALLY reached my goal weight of 135 pounds with counting calories and I've fallen off the wagon and am up to 139 pounds. EEEK!
My grand plan is to keep the calories around 1500 daily, and to keep an eye on the fiber and fat content as well. Also, daily workouts--even if it has to be a shorter workout on crazy-busy days, and to drink lots of water. [That should keep me busy!] One thing I'd like to see: if anyone comes across something that's delicious and satisfying and it's amazingly low in calories--please share!!! |
Welcome, :queen: E!!! Wowza, I'm glad to see thee here! :wizard:
I think I posted this before somewhere but it bears repeating since you asked for ideas: take a serving of frozen unsweetened berries, process in a mini processor ($9 at Walmart) with ice, a LITTLE water and Splenda (if you like) and it's a cross between Italian ice, sorbet and granita for about 90 calories. I'd also love to see a regular sharing of ideas on low calorie but amazing food. Huzzah, all. I'll be back with my numbers tonight. |
Hi everyone,
Did ok this weekend. Sat & Sun came in each day at about 1500 calories. Calories burned with exercise ZERO (starting up again this Wed. though) Lynn |
Sigh, but I still did better than yesterday!
Edited: 2580! Better, but can't let this level continue!
Calorie Target for Monday: 2000 :crossed: |
Ended Sunday with 1580 calories--better than I've done in a few weeks. Also did a 3 mile walk in the morning and a 20-min. dumbell routine.
|
:wizard: We can do this, guys! :bravo:
|
Today I ended up at about 1400 calories. Exercise = zero :( More OT tomorrow then back to the gym for me!
Lynn |
Monday: 2115!!!! Exercise calories burned: 40 :yikes:
Tuesday's Target: 2000 :encore: |
Ended the day with 1980 calories--not the ideal, but tomorrow's another day and all that. Exercise: 30 min. bellydancing, 25 min. yoga.
|
Sis boom bah! :cheer: Life got in the way again and I'm already over the target! Will just try to eat sensibly the rest of the day and focus on counting the calories, no matter how high!
I'll be back tonight with a report! :cofdate: :wizard: Hocus pocus focus focus! |
Calories today: I shudder to think......
Exercise: 45 min. step video [excellent sweat!] 30 min. dumbells Here's the thing with me; when one part of my plan falls apart it all goes, i.e., if the food part's off, I'll blow off the exercise--but today I forced myself to do a good workout and I felt better, and more hopeful. Really want to get completely back on track!!! |
Yup, yup, yup, yup, yup!!! Me, too, :queen: E, so feeleth not like the Lone Rangerette!!! I'm in the newsroom now waiting to go cover a meeting and I've been eating all day. Presently, I am eating sugar frosted Cheerios, but there've been worse things! (There's a pizza parlor next door).
Calories (as of now) 3155! :fr: Exercise calories burned: zilch, nada! We CAN get back on track, just have to take it a day at a time! Huzzah! It comes down to believing that it can be done ... and we know it can, because we've done it!!! So, ONE MORE TIME! :wizard: Hocus, pocus, focus, focus! On to the best calorie controlled Wednesday ever! |
Hello Ladies,
Exercise = none will go tomorrow night overtime or not! :tread: Calories = about 1800 Edyie, Godess in training - I love that!!! Amarantha, yes, it can be done. :D Looking forward to a low cal, exercise filled Wednesday! Lynn |
Calorie Counterettes, TOMORROW IS THE DAY!!!! :bravo:
|
Hello all!
Just sticking my head in the door to mention I've opened a Sprint II for any and all who would like some extra motivation. I can relate to the calorie counting challenges as I have the hardest time writing down what I'm eating so I often wonder if I'm over or under ..... Passive aggressive?? Denial?? Poor Organizational skills?? Who knows! anyway... The Sprint is open to any and all...no experience necessary! To repeat the words of a very motivating woman! YOWZA! |
TODAY IS THE DAY OF HOCUS POCUS FOCUS FOCUS: :wizard: (Was I shouting? How rude!) :lol3:
Calorie Target: 1700! I can do it!!! Exercise calories burned (already) 240 (1 hour, 20 min of what trainer calls "random exercise" at gym ... I call it circuit training) I'll be back with report tonight! Hi, to :queen: K! Also wanted to mention that I really like the concept of this thread (which I did not invent but stole from another website :lol3: ) and think it's going to be my main posting focus for awhile ... maybe it could be revamped monthly to keep it lite and quick (like my eating, hopefully)! Just wanted to mention that I hope no one has the idea they shouldn't post their food in detail here. Some people journal in detail and some, like me, want only to count the numbers, but it's all calorie counting, right? :chin: Later, gators. I promise brevity in my next post!! Huzzah! |
May I join y'all?
I too faithfully count calories. I am on trying to get about 1200 calories per day and I am so strict with myself sometimes I have trouble getting over 1000. They always say do what works for you and this is working for me, and it doesn't eliminate anything from my diet... I can have what I want if I allow the calories for it, and so far I've lost just over 30# since March.
For my exercise I go to Curves 5+ times a week, water aerobics on Wednesday nights and a tapes tape for my thighs whenever I fit that in. Do you mind if I hop in here with you girls? |
Forgot to mention...
Here's a snack that is low in calories and sooo YUMMY.... Oreo Thin Crisps from Nabisco. They have 100 calories per package, and are definitely worth it.... Nabisco makes a few others that I plan on trying soon too. Check them out: 100 Calorie Snack Packs
|
Yo! Welcome, Jenn!!!! So glad you joined us in the Clublette!!! Thanks for the info on the snack packs. I need to try these!!!
I'm experimenting with little packs of kid cereal as substitutes for candy today. Bought some largish size servings (individually packaged); the highest of these is 170 (Cinnamon Toast crunch). I balanced the sugar of the servings (have had two) with an EAS Carb Control shake (100 cal). Ok, promised brevity. Will be back tonight! :encore: |
Welcome. Jenn! And thanks for the info on the snax! I saw the whole array of the 100-calorie things and was curious. I'll have to try them on your recommendation.
Very pleased to see the elimination of hydrogenated oils in some of my old favorites too----triscuits are finally trans-fat free! |
Hi All:
I came today right around 1500 calories. I am doing a lot of estimating here and I think I tend to overestimate. I am so scared about blowing it and going over. And still no exercise. Someone please yell at me  Lynn |
I followed Amarantha and Eydie in here... I figured it's about time I get really honest about my food intake. Plus, I've noticed recently that being aware of the calories in some things makes me NOT want to eat them... So yeah, this is the first time I've really counted calories. So I need to start with a goal.
When I fooled around with fitday years ago, it gave me something around the ballpark of 1400 calories. http://www.am-i-fat.com/ tells me it should be 1686, but that's just for maintenance, not loss. A very unscientific quiz on ivillage.com told me to follow their 1400-calorie plan. The Hacker's Diet (great site!) tells me 1344-1680. So I guess I'll set an arbitrary goal of 1400 for now. I got 1517 today, which doesn't sound too bad, but I ate the way I ate before I was losing weight. Exercise: basic stuff (a few sit ups, etc) and a 25-minute walk around my neighborhood. |
Welcome, Abba!!!! Looks like you had a great, healthy day!!! :bravo:
Wisertime, no yelling, you're doing great! :cp: You'll exercise when you feel like it. You have to be ready. Please don't worry about estimating, going over and "blowing it!" IMO, it's consistency in counting calories that counts (sorry, too many counts in that sentence). Even if we don't get a count exactly correct, just assigning a number to everything eaten really does keep the total eaten in check, at least that's the way I look at it! :) You're probably more accurate than you think. I must announce here THAT I MADE MY GOAL; calories: 1690!!! :cloud9: Exercise calories previously reported!!! Huzzah! |
Ended Wednesday with 1700 calories. Exercise was a 60 min. "Firm" cardio-sculpt video and 20 min. dumbell routine. [Have I mentioned I love 'The Firm'? :D ]
|
Yo! :queen: E, am in agreement on The Firm!!! :bravo: for your good day!!! Huzzah!
Am off to burn cals at gym, with a hope of 160 for 40 min :tread: ). Again, I just use an average of 4 cals per minute for everything, actually, I'll be burning more if I jog. Thursday's Calorie Target: 1700! I can do it! |
I came in at 1100 calories yesterday.... which is great for me... Sounds like everyone else is doing well too.
For exercise I went to water aerobics, but I think that may have been my last class... I only go so my sister will do SOME form of exercise, but we are both starting to really dislike the class. We started out loving it, but it getting really blah! Like the teacher doesn't try anymore :p Today is going well I guess... I'm under 200 calories for the day so far, but it only just after 10 am, so who knows how the day will shape up. I'll check in again later! :coffee: |
Hello, Everyone. New to 3FC
Hi!
Sign me up! I've just recommitted to calorie counting, the ONLY way I've ever lost weight. I'd like to take off 7-10 pounds, and stabilize my calorie intake at about 1300 calories a day. At 5'2", I gain weight if I eat much more than that. So far so good (as of yesterday and today). Hopefully I'll have some weight loss to report next week! Cheers, Jennifer |
Hi, Jennifer!!!! Glad you've chosen to join us and I'm in agreement with your point about calorie counting ... it's the only way I've ever lost weight either! I took the liberty of clicking on your profile and see you want to lose approximately a pound a week ... that's my preferred rate also ... I used to have a mantra: "I will lose a pound this week, I will lose it as I sleep I will lose it as I eat, etc.!!" :encore: We can do it!
Jenn, you are such a nice sister to do water aerobics to motivate your sis!!! You're doing great! Huzzah, all! I'm pledged to brevity and will be back with my report! |
Thanks Amarantha! I'll make sure to let you know how my weigh-in and measure goes on Saturday :crossed:
Welcome Jennifer! (Nice name btw ) I am sticking to 1000-1200 calories a day myself until I make it to my goal, then I will slowly increase to 1500-1600 a day for maintainence.... I'm 5'10.5" so I think that should be a good number to maintain with... You sound like you are no stranger to this, I was wondering if you think that's a good number? (Not that I have to orry about that yet, as I have about 20# to go!) |
Hi Jenn,
I'm not really an expert (if you even meant me to begin with!). But I've used lots of different web sites that calculate daily calorie requirements/basal metabolic rates, and they usually fall within 100 calories a day of each other. Assuming no activity whatsoever, a woman of your willowy height at your goal weight requires 1,612 calories a day (Basal Metabolic Rate according to the Discovery Health website). So eat less than that, and you're losing weight, plus all the calories burned in exercise. 1,000 cals a day for a person your height seems a bit extreme to me. But, then again, I've almost no willpower. Current wisdom tells us not to eat less than 1,000 cals a day, or we risk going into starvation mode and then our bodies work AGAINST us losing weight. Congrats on your fabulous progress so far! Jennifer |
Yo! Hanging out before a meeting and can't stay off web! Hi, guys!
Jenn, sorry to nib into the conversation but I agree with Jennifer. I lost more than 100 pounds on a weekly average of 1800 calories and I'm only 5'5" ... all nutritionists, docs, etc., have advised me never to go below 1500 calories for the same reasons Jenn cited. I took the liberty (I'm sorry, I'm fanatical about this stuff) of plugging your numbers in the Harris Benedict formula, which is what I use. I just guessed your age and activity level and it puts you at a base rate (maintenance) of 2145. That's not so different from the formula Jenn used because I put you in as moderately active because the weights on your sig indicate you might be lifting weights. If you want to lose a pound a week, theoretically, you'd just eat 500 less per day ... 1645 ... and voila! :encore: Harris Benedict seems to come in a little high, though, and everyone's different, but it does seem that 1000 a day is really low for you to feel at your best and avoid slowing your metabolism. Anyhow, I apologize for going on at length today when I'm pledged to brevity and also for chiming in with my two cents when not actually asked! :) I think I shall go do my job now! Will be back one more time with a brief report! |
I came in at 1127 today.... So the concensus is that is not good? I know about staying above 1000 calories or risking going in Starvation mode which is why I will try not to go to bed with less than 1000 calories ever... Sometimes it is hard to even get there... :?:
|
Hello All:
I came in today at about 1700 calories and calories burned was about 60-75. Just a guess - went for a 40 min walk with the dog. This could have been a higher number but it's hard when he stops every 5 min. to pee & eat grass. Lynn |
1264 today. Better. I didn't exercise, though, except for the 5 minutes of basic stuff in the morning.
The scale this AM said 117.0. That is a big deal because I'm sure I haven't seen that number in a couple years. |
