Well today I am going to take this seriously and jump in. I have just finished the last of the birthday celebrations yesterday. My hubby will have to eat that left over cake. I also find it important for me to journal my foods. It has worked for me in the past I will try to do the calorie count also and see how it goes. Today will begin my journey of better choices and exercise.

Ceara and Heather---yes please, the more posters the more support for us all!

Abba, Yes, I'm a big fan of Propel water. I think it's too sweet on its own so I cut it with plain water. It definitely keeps me drinking more!

abbazabba 07-26-2004 11:43 PM

Today was one of those "I want to eat everything in sight" days, and everything in sight triggered cravings of everything else not in sight. So my total is 1377... which seems like a low number, but I definitely do NOT need this many calories to maintain my weight.
I'm going to be having a chat with the boyfriend about, how if he's hungry when he's with me, he should eat the thngs he likes that I don't so I won't want whatever foodd he gets.

SKYFIREFLY 07-27-2004 06:42 AM

Boy jumping back in was harder than I thought still too many goodies around the house from birthday parties. I was really hungry when I got home from work today. I think my a.m. calories were pretty low and then when food was available it was hard to not eat it!!!!!!!!

salad w/ low fat dressing
1 deviled egg
1 luna bar low carb/ low cal

Hiya!

Welcome, all new members! I've really enjoyed posting to this thread, and hope you all have an equally great experience.

I've been away for several days, but I'm back now. My journaling has not been great, and I've been eating some junk. My exercise was intermittent. My pulled hip muscle is much better, at least. And I seem to be doing fine, in the my-pants-still-fit sort of way. However, that won't last if I don't get back on track.

Last night was good; I ate shashimi and a very little rice (sound familiar? It's the same place I went last Tuesday. Yummy.). This time I only had a few pieces of unagi. That stuff has 45 calories per piece, mostly from fat! This morning I lifted weights, and today's calorie count is good, about 500 so far. That gives me a little wiggle room for dinner.

Now my goal is to get back to running in the mornings. I might try running every other day, maybe then I won't flake out so quickly. Or going for 45 minutes instead of a full hour.

I am going to banish my bathroom scale to a closet. Whenever the weight starts to dip down, I start getting lazy. I think I need to just go by how my clothing fits and concentrate on building good habits, and weigh myself every couple of weeks only. This means I won't have progress reports as often, but it's what I need to do, I think. Also, I need to figure out how to use my scales body fat measurement feature; it's why I bought the darn thing in the first place. I'd much rather see my fat percentage drop than see any weight loss, anyway. :)

That's more than enough for now. ;)

Cheers,

jliotta 07-28-2004 12:30 PM

Schorchin, hey, you did a great job! What's 25 cals anyway, about 1 apricot or a couple of pieces of hard candy? 1200-1250 is a tough range, so congrats!

Sky, I have the same problem, evening eating. I tried working out in the evenings for awhile. It didn't work out great for me, but some sort of planned activities in the evenings might keep your mind off snacking. I look forward to hearing advice from others on this topic, also. :)

Yesterday was great. Kept portions reasonable, didn't clean my plate, and didn't snack after dinner. This wasn't easy, since my husband decided to eat pizza at 10pm.

Today is looking great. Ran on the treadmill for an hour (over 7 miles, whoo!). Brought a salad for lunch (the spinach salad with apple and gorgonzola recipe from this website). Tonight is dinner out with family, so I just need to be careful tonight.

Have a great day. :) :)

Wisertime 07-28-2004 08:29 PM

Hi everyone,

I haven't posted in a couple of days so I will just sum it up by saying that I have been pretty good keeping my calories around 1500 - 1800 per day.

You all sound like you're doing great!

Lynn

scorchin 07-28-2004 09:23 PM

i didn't do good at all with calories i went over by 226calories think it mostly coz we had to wake up at 445am oh well ... Sounds like everyone else did great.. . well, I'm gonna go clean up and all that good stuff... :p  :p

SKYFIREFLY 07-29-2004 07:08 AM

jumping back on is tougher than I thought it would be. I have made some choices which haven't been good. Afterwards I think why did I do that? Oh well the unhealthy snacks are on the way out and I'm not replacing them. Still trying to get back to where I was up 2lbs. OH!!!!!!!!!!!
Wed.
2 eggs , 2 dry rye toast, potaoes
coffee
salad with little blue cheese dressing
Home:
squash saute in a little olive oil , little butter and garlic, feta cheese
a handful of tortilla chips the last of that bag!
chicken breast, 1 small baked potatoe
1 ice cream bar
appox 1600 cal. I am not sure how many calories I should be at? I am 5'7 and 170lbs. any thoughts anyone? I am sure mine are off. Years ago when I did counting fats it was 30 fats, 30 fibers?????? Oh well I just need to eat healthy and not let those bad things in.

Everyone's doing so well. Even the so-called slips don't sound that bad!
I'm doing well as far as my calorie intake, but am feeling a little distressed-- since I've pulled something in my left hip I'm not able to get in any truly sweaty aerobic workouts. I really miss it; I'm doing what I can, trying to find the balance between breaking a sweat and 'taking it easy'. Still doing yoga, pilates, etc.

Here's Wednesdays':

coffee w/ fat-free 1/2 and 1/2
scrambled egg beaters w/ spinach, peppers, onion
2 soy 'sausages'

Mexican lasagna
Thai cole slaw

ww tortilla w/ lite cheese, vegs.
Thai cole slaw
lo-fat ice cream w/ blueberries

snacks: 1/2 choc.-dipped banana
wha guru chew

calories: 1405
fiber: 28 grams
fat: 47 grams [higher than I'd like]

exercise:20 min. dumbells
15 min. yoga
30 min. Pilates

jliotta 07-29-2004 01:51 PM

Hey, Scorchin, we must be on the same wavelength; my fire alarm went off this morning at 4:30am, for no reason whatsoever. Argh! Getting up at that time is no fun. Of course, I couldn't really fall back asleep after that bc I had to get up at 6 anyway.

Last night wasn't great, I had a cocktail, steak AND dessert. whoops. Today is going fine, had a great morning at the gym lifting weights (and no soreness from yesterday's run, thank goodness), a small breakfast and a light lunch, and there are no fancy dinners to resist tonight. :p

Bye for now.

Hey all- just wanted to let you know I'm sorry I disappeared- I quit counting calories. It just wasn't making sense for me... I got a new book, The Step Diet, because I've used pedometers sucessfully before and it makes sense for me. So while I'm not counting calories, I'm still here online and working on my body. I think online support is really important so you'll be seeing me around 3FC.

scorchin 08-01-2004 11:18 PM

I had steak and hamburgers today my iron level is very low i had 2415 calories not to bad i figured it was going to be way bigger. abbazabba not everyone can do calories u just need to do what makes u feel good. heather

SKYFIREFLY 08-02-2004 07:16 AM

Monday! Oh how I hate to get moving this a.m., but here goes nothing . I did get on to read a few posts thinking it will help me start my week in a positive way with support from others. So I will try to make better choices and exercise.I did manage to do some weeding to the tune of about 3 hours on Saturday. My gardens are happier now and I hope the exercise helped me too! I will log on later tonight to put my calories and exercise in. I have a hard time getting used to calorie counting but I think its important and will give it a shot for a bit to see how I do.

Wisertime 08-05-2004 05:04 PM

Hi all,

Hey, this thread is starting to get awfully quiet!! How is everyone's calorie counting going? I have been ok, not great. I am on vacation this week. I've been pretty busy up to today and had fast food twice this week. I haven't been terrible but I know I can do better. At least I did make it to the gym this week. I'll probably go back tonight.

Scorchin, how is the pup? Better I hope.

jliotta 08-10-2004 09:50 AM

Hi everyone!

Yes, it is getting quiet on this thread. I've been bad about posting, so I'm partially to blame. The calorie counting has not gone extremely well for me. We eat out so much that it is just impossible to keep an accurate count. I've gotten to the point where I do rough guess-timates on calorie values. Which is still helping because it keeps me away from the outrageous items (french fries, ice cream, etc). I'm eating smaller portions and getting somewhat regular exercise. Although I've been taking breaks of a few days here and there because I keep pulling muscles and getting other minor injuries.

The good news is that I've managed to keep losing. If I can trust the scale, I've lost just over 5 pounds since starting. So I've met my goal of 1-2 pounds a week! It's not over yet, but I feel that I can FINALLY lose these last ten pounds! :D

Wisertime 08-10-2004 06:14 PM

Jennifer, sounds like you are doing great! I am like you in a way, I guess alot with my calories and I actually try to overestimate so I don't go over.

I gained a few pounds over vacation. I kind of had a feeling I would but I am back on track now. :D

Mon calories = about 1800

Tues calories (so far) = 1000

Lynn

jliotta 08-11-2004 02:47 PM

Wiser, where did you go on vacation? I made it out to the California bay area in May. I'm ready for another vacation already! :^: Alas, school starts in less than two weeks

Heather, I hope you and your puppy are both feeling better.

Skyfirefly, I wish I could see your garden, I bet it's lovely. :) Hopefully you'll find calorie counting to be a useful tool. it was really hard for me to count calories at first. I think it is pretty impossible to precisely measure calories in unlabeled food. At first I measured calories by making my own food or eating labeled items. After a little practice, I got a better sense of what unlabeled foods probably contained. Now I focus more on controling portion sizes to stay within my calorie range. But I the experience of writing everything down, at least for awhile, was very useful.

All you other ladies, let us know how you are doing! This is such a great group, I'd hate to see this thread die. So many of you have been doing really well, and it would be so nice to be able to congratulate each of you for making your goals!

Wisertime 08-12-2004 10:10 PM

Hey Jennifer,

I didn't go out of town for my vacation. But I did go to the beaches around here for a few of the days. I really needed some sun! And the water was nice too. California sounds very nice!

The down side is I gained weight while I was home! I'm so mad at myself! I am definitely back on track this week and going to the gym but I feel like I blew it big time. I was doing so good and I was so careless while on vacation.

But this is a calorie counting thread so for some good news I have been keeping my calories between 1500-1700 all week and I have been TRYING to increase my water intake. Some days are better than others when it comes to that though. So I will keep my fingers crossed that my slight gain will disappear very soon!

Lynn

Room for one more "counter"?

Hello Ladies!
I just found this club, although I have been lurking around 3FC for a while.
I am a definate calorie counter....I have found that it is the ONLY way I
can lose weight. I started counting calories and exercising in November 2003.
To date I have lost a total of 64 pounds and have 3 more to go! :D

I eat between 1200 and 1500 calories a day normally, but there are always
those planned splurges!

I would love to be part of your group. I struggle with my weight every day and believe that online support would hold me accountable and help me to struggle well.

Thanks, and hope to hear from ya'll!

Thanks for letting me in!
Eydie how are you doing? I've gained all the weight I've lost but I'm starting fresh again today!
I'll try to stay between 1300 to 1500 cal. I'll post as much as I can. I wish all the luck to you all! Go calories counters!

Kisses :)

Wisertime 08-15-2004 08:11 PM

Amarantha , where have you been? I hope things are ok with you. :?:

Maat & Angie, welcome! The more the merrier.

Angie, congrats on your loss! That is awesome. :cheer: You are very close to goal, have you made it yet?

Maat, how much did you lose? I recently gained a bit back myself. It was 5 pounds but enough to give me the kickin the butt I needed and get back on track.

I won't list all of the details but I have been sticking to my 1500-1700 range since I last posted. 3 more lbs to go until I lose the five I gained. :(

199 Here I come! :D

Lynn
