  • We had family in town for the weekend, so it was quite busy. On Saturday, I stayed within points and had a workout with my father. He is 56 and in better shape than me. He has been on this health kick since he became a grandpa. Not too good on Sunday, no tracking or workout. Still motivated for the week. Let's have a great week ladies!

Geri - Good luck with the pictures! I go to Sears as well. I got that same coupon, that is a great deal. I am glad that you mention it, I will have to make an appointment for JW 6 months.

Ginny - Thanks for the encouragement. I have the Kathy Smith DVD's - Weights. The DVD is great because I can skip to the parts I need to work the most. Who makes the Get Fit tape? I get some of my videos from the library and tape them.

Andrea - YUM, cheesecake. It is not bad on the low carb diets so I enjoy it every once in awhile. Ruby Tuesday has a pretty good one as well. Enjoy your time with DH.

    Happy Monday!

    Melinda
  • Just back to say hello quickly.

Spryng- glad you got some much needed rest and that your weight loss was noticed by so many!!!!! WW is like that- I love to spread the word about it, because the program is so easy to follow and allows so many choices. Plans that severely limit- Jenny Craig etc, where you have to eat their food, sound great, but what happens when you have to go back to real food?? The Get Fit is the last of 3 that WW makes- the toughest. I have no idea if they will market it outside of meetings- here in NY we have some WW centers and I am sure that you can purchase it there. Then there is always ebay- or other secondary market outlets. I think for you the workout would be 3 points, as you are below 145#- but for 35 minutes I will take 3 points!

Ricci- oh, can I sympathize with the mispronounced name issue. No matter how clearly I speak, most people want to hear Jenny- or Jeannie (which is my SIL's name, so it gets even more confusing!). I must spell for most of the world. Dh and I do not get out much either. We actually snuck out Saturday am for a coffee at the Dunkin (they have skimmed milk, woo hoo!) and left the kids sleeping. One of the few advantages of having a teenager (and being that she is upset with me, I mean few!). As far as you and Dh, you just have to try to schedule some time in to get out- oh, I know how tough that is! Some couples seem to be very good at it- Dh and I are not. Hope you can sneak out together soon.

Melinda-One day at a time right???? My weekend was not perfect either, but I am trying hard to get back on track. I agree,we should all try to have a great week! What kind of workout did you do with your dad? How neat!

    Have I babbled enough???
Better go unload the dw. See ya later!

  • Today was much much better, I really hope she has come to her old good self back now.

Andrea: Posting pics is not that difficult at all. If you already have pictures in digital form (either from a digi camera or scanned) I could tell you how to get them online if you want to give it a try. It's really not difficult. Cheesecake sounds great!!!

Ginny: I quilt sometimes, just not as often as I wish. With my baby, cats and college I rarely find time to do it any more, but one day I will finish all of those started projects LOL. I find cross-stitching much better for now, as I can do it just a bit at a time. I wish one could ross-stitch while breastfeeding LOL.
The vdvd sounds great, I am looking for some videos/dvds to start working out, but I am still ind of weak after the c-section and so on. Would this one be OK for a bloody beginner? Or could you give me a piece of advice on something to begin with?

spryng: Great, you had a wonderful weekend! The baby shower must have been really great and it feels sooo good to hear cmpliments on having lost weight! A challange is a good idea. I already have one challange to lose 10 pounds till Apiril Fool's Day, but I definitely need something to get my lazy a** moving and start moving at least a bit...

Candy: Alizée is 3 months old. I don't think she's teething, but who knows, maybe she is just early on that? But she's better now. Sorry you are still not feeling well, I hope your cold will be over soon.

Geri: Sorry you are unwell. I'm sure Tanner's pics will be a blast.

Ricci: I hope your going out will be nice.

    Hugs
  • Advice much needed
I just wanted a separate post for such an important topic

I need your advice ladies on starting to work out. I am ashamed to say that I have not started it yet. To tell ou the truth I simply don't know how to. Before the pregnancy I used to go to the gym, but I hated it to tell you the truth. I did it just because I had to and not because I felt better afterwards (I rarely did). But now I think there is no choice. I am not losing weight that quickly any more after achieving my pre-pregnancy weight, I cannot cut my foods much more because of breastfeeding and I would like to get in shape in general.

So no choice I have to start working out. I just don't know how to start. I have been thinking about something with dancing, maybe?? Like Salsa Aerobics? Can you suggest something? I can't go to the gym, because of the baby so I would like to start doing something at home. My hubby is very sweet and he takes her of Ali every day 2 hours, but I need this time to learn for my college. I am in the last term and I have to write my thesis and learn for the finals. No way to cut this time more...

How do you ladies organize yourselves to do some sports? How do you motivate yourselves? I'm afraid that I will buy a video/dvd and it will get dusty on the shelf... It's not that I hate all sports, but the ones I like I cannot practice now.. like horseback riding, skiing or ice skating...

So any advice is much appreciateted

    Hugs
  • Good afternoon all!!
Gosia, so glad that your little one is feeling a bit better. In a baby's first year of life so many things are changing and disrupt new habits and such. She may be teething or may not... she just may be going through a growth period that is throwing her off some. And as far as working out, there are some workout videos out there that are tailored to post pregnancy so they are very low impact and easier for the body to handle. I know Kathy Ireland had one out a long time ago and I'm sure there are newer ones. But mainly just start slow, maybe by just going for a stroll down the street or in a park and working up from there. Listen to your body and take it easy. You have been through major surgery so you need to be careful not to over do it.
Ginny, 3 pts sounds great also. I may check out ebay and see what it is going for there. Is it aerobics or weight training?? I have discovered I really hate aerobics. I'm just so clumsy that I can't keep up with it. I mean I give it my all but I would be mortified if anyone saw me doing it because I'm so out of sync with the professional teaching it! lol.
Melinda that is so great that you got a workout in with your dad! It's nice that he is health concious now that he is a grandfather. It's so important. I wish my kids grandpa would think of them and take care of himself also.
Ricci I am like you when it comes to exercise. I have to have variety or I get bored very quickly and want to quit. I still love my pilates but I want to incorporate The Firm back into my routine also so I can tone better before summer hits.
I think an exercise challenge would be great also. We can pick how many days a week we should get some in and go from there. I need to be working out at least 5 days a week. Right now I'm lucky if I get 2 days in.
Well DH will be home this friday! Boy how last week just flew by. My van should be here sometime today I hope.
I guess I should get off of here and do something constructive (yeah right, lol) But it is so nice to be home today and have nothing really to do, just lay around and rest. Feels nice
Ok, talk to you all later!
  • Gosia, just take it slow. But after my kids were born I just slowly got back into exercising. Pick something that is easy to do at first and build from there. And as far as time goes, I know it's hard to make time to work out but what about right after your daughter goes to bed at night? My pilates dvd has 3 workouts on it that are 10 minutes each, so even if you can just do it for 10 minutes it better than nothing at all. And like I said in my previous post there are workouts tailored to post partum women. But what kind of things do you like to do? It will be spring soon, could you visit a park or something a take a stroll with your dd in a stroller? Just little things will help out. I'm sure the other women here will have good advice for you too. But the main thing is to listen to your body and if it physically hurts them don't do it. If you like dancing then yes a dance video might interest you, if you like something calmer than maybe pilates or yoga would work. if you want a intense workout maybe you would like The Firm or something that uses weights too. But ease into it and you'll find something that works for you HTH
  • My van just got here!!! It is beautiful! I will take a pic tomorrow (it's dark outside now) to show you all. I am just glad it is sitting in my driveway now though.
How is everyone elses night going? What are you all having for dinner? My white bean enchiladas came out great. I'm stuffed.
Well, off to tend to the kids. TTYL!
  • started a new thread. come on over.
