Hi All, It is nice to see other Canucks up here!

Igave myself a gym memebership for my birthday last summer. I was at 247. I have been working out and am at only 224. But I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroid. So it makes losing weight extremely difficult. It also explains alot.

I have been doing the Gi Diet for 4 months and only lost 20 pounds. But, everyone else has dropped more! Ain't it the way?! But I have gone from needing to stay at level one at the gym's cross trainer machine. Now I can go to level 15. So, some of the weight is now muscle. It has to be because I have lost more than 30 inches over all.

SO I focus on eating right, playing well and girls night out at the gym....

But, I am trying to give up coffee...the GI Plan vetoes it out right...and i do LOVE it so

Deborah

MeRoMo 03-02-2004 03:50 PM

Hello Deborah!

Contrats on the 20 pounds loss! That's great!

What is the Gi diet?

M.

DewCan 03-02-2004 05:46 PM

Deborah, congrats on your loss, that is wonderful. What can you do about the hypothyroid thing? Can't you take medication for that? Jsut wondering. I'm also wondering what a GI diet is
Diana

northernclipper 03-02-2004 08:51 PM

Hello ladies

Deborah17 It seems like we all want to know what the GI diet is? Bravo on the 30inches that's great. Keep up the great work.

Trixi I glad to hear your still losing (slow and steady wins the race)

Krystal I weigh-in at ww"s on Thur or Sun and Mondays every fourth week I have a body measuring.(to see if I lost inches) I can't think of spring cleaning yet that will mean painting and rearranging furniture. But that sure is great exercise( the spring cleaning I mean)

I have had a great day today no weigh loss but I got into a smaller size pair of pants and they were alittle baggy. I couldn't stop smiling all day I must of looked pretty goofy :dizzy: I have been at a stand still for 3 weeks no weight loss so to fit into those pants earned me my goofy look.

I hope this week turns out great for all of us so cross your fingers and stay op.

Zanne 03-02-2004 09:02 PM

I'm Here!

Oh my gosh, I've been MIA from here for quite a while. I haven't had time to go back and read all the posts but WELCOME to all the new comers!

Well, my exercising is going GREAT! I registered myself and DH in a half marathon in May. I'm going to be walking it (13.1 miles). I've been on my elliptical almost every day for the past few weeks and have now started to train outside. Hopefully the nice weather will stay.

My eating has improved too. I think the exercising curbs the appetite. I have made a few slip ups but don't dwell on them. I had a treat of chips and dip the other night. Only ate a few chips, but the rest back in the bag and then grabbed 2 grapefruits to snack on. The chips didn't taste that great to me.

My weight has stayed the same, but I'm sure I'm losing. My watch and rings are getting big! I had to check my watch the other day to make sure I hadn't put it on the wrong hole cause it had twisted around on my wrist. Nope! same hole as always, so i guess my wrist is smaller  And the rings I had to get made bigger a couple years ago are very loose. I did measurements today and I've lost a few more inches. So I don't believe the scale too much. Tape measure and the Pants-o-meter are a better way to see if I've lost weight.

DEBORAH--I'm hypothyroid AND have PCOS. Double whammy for losing the weight. I take meds for the thyroid, and ironically, losing weight will help eliviate the symptoms of the PCOS. I'm finding that exercising is helping. I try to eat similar to the GI diet. I stay away from "white" stuff and processed/refined foods. I 've been eating a lot of pineapple lately tho, and that's supposed to have a high GI rating. I figure it's better than chips. I won't give up my morning coffee tho! 30 inches is awesome--keep up the good work.

MeRoMo--Glad you liked your trip to TO.

Ok, gotta go. Just thought I'd better check in here!

Trixi 03-02-2004 10:52 PM

Zanne: Great to hear from you again!!!. Who cares what the scale says if the clothes and rings get looser!!! Great Job on the exercise.

MeRoMo: The Sheraton is a four star Hotel that has great service and it is smack in the middle of downtown. I worked there for 8 years and my ex-MIL (like her, can do without her son) still does. Its a great place to stay. Its attached to the pathway which is an underground walkway that you can pretty much shop till you drop and takes you all through downtown from underneath the city (wow that sounds very total recall like) and I take it everyday.

Welcome Deborah!!!! All us Canadians are starting to finally crept out of the woodwork. This has been a great thread for me and hopefully you will find it helpful as well!!! Just like Zanne all those inches gotta mean something!

I was a really good girl today I came home and exercised, made dinner, showered, got the laundry ready for tomorrow, fed the aminals, baked a cake with my daughter and even had time to eat my own dinner of chicken soup with brocolli, onion, tomatoe, mushrooms (no carbs for me today) I am so glad that I cooked all my meals on Sunday it makes it so much easier to stick to my food.

I am tired and I know why today. Usually I am to beat to even think about doing that stuff never mind actually getting it done.

I have heard of the GI diet and thought about trying it but my body just hates carbs and there are too many on that diet for me.

Seems the week is getting better for everyone!!! Have a great night all!

Dale

DewCan 03-03-2004 12:17 AM

Northern Clipper, you have every right to be smiling!! That's exciting about the pants.
Zanne, you're doing wonderful :cb: keep it up. pants-o-meter, I like that, and it's so true.
Wow, Dale, you sure were busy today! Hopefully that will be me tomorrow.
Goodnight,
Diana

Deborah17 03-03-2004 12:44 AM

Wow, Thanks for all the congrats. I am amazed by the friendliness. But then we Canucks are a friendly bunch.

I read the GI [Glycemic Index] Diet Plan book, by Richard Gallop, a Canadian, who was the president of the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation. Basically it touted a stoplight theory of eating. Foods in the Green light zone you can eat to your heart's content...you fill up long before the calorie count kicks in.

The yellow lights are things light banasa anad peanut butter that you can have sometimes

Red light items should be avoided at all costs...special occasions not withstanding.

There really isn't very many carbs, if you portion out your carbs properly...I spent two weeks measuring 1/2 to 2/3 of a cup, by measure not weight, onto my plate until I could do it by sight...I know because I check myself every once in a while....

You eat portein and carbs in tandem. This is the diabetic part as the glycemis index was created as a measure of a food's relative sugar, the 100% baseline is sugar itself, only maltose is more at 105%.....

and it is 4 oz of protein and 1/2 to 2/3 cup of whole or multi grain pasta, slightly undercooked, or basmati or brown rice. and salad fruit etc. the ratio Rcichard use it 1/4 of your plate should be protein, 1/4 should be carbs, and 1/2 should be fruit and veggies.... You eat evry 3-4 hours to keep your blood sugar levels even...again the diabetes thing....

My biggest thing was the pasta...I was eating 3-4 servings at supper with the day care kids! The next worse is the fact that you aren't supposed to drink or eat caffiene and I love my coffee...so this week I am finally going to decaf..... You can drink all the tea, clear, that you want.

Sorry if I sound like an encyclopaedia but I just finished an article on this very thing...It came out on Sheknows.com the same week the Diet came out in Woman''s World.... I am doing another on Low carb cheeses for them later this month.

I hope this helps with some of the questions you all had from my original post

and it it great to see you all

Deborah

Trixi 03-03-2004 09:24 AM

Good morning all!!!! Its Wednesday and I am down one more pound!!!! Yay me!!!. glad I got the exercise in last night makes me feel if I don't do it in the morning (takes to long to wake up) than I can do it at night.

Going to be another busy day today and I must do laundry tonight or I will be going to work naked tomorrow and face lets face a one pound loss is not going to impress the commuters!!

Have a great day!

Dale

MeRoMo 03-03-2004 11:54 AM

So I tried the "do you give a special rate to airline employees?" at the Sheraton in YYZ and was given a price of $199!! OUCH!! Don't think I'll be staying there! :(

Trixi 03-03-2004 01:52 PM

I am sure I can get you a rate of at least half of that. I will make a general inquiry to my MIL and she what she says.

cat90 03-03-2004 11:32 PM

Hi Everyone  and Welcome to the newbies :)

Got home last night around midnight but seeing as we left England at 10am the "real" time was 8am  it is such a drag :tired: i'll probably need a few days to recover and get everything back to normal..went out today for groceries will sort all the laundry out tomorrow :s: and then discovered that i'd got that WORM BAGLE virus on my computer so spent most of the day getting rid of that :rollpin: i am so cautious about opening anything so it must have been from someone i know :yikes: so now i'll be doubly cautious  in other words i'll probably not open anything  too tired to write much now so will see you in the morning.

MeRoMo 03-04-2004 08:20 AM

Welcome back Cathy! How was your trip?

MeRoMo 03-04-2004 11:54 AM

Wow Girls, you are all doing so well :cp: Well Done to all of you :bravo:

I've packed on a few while on holiday :( had a great time doing it tho' so its time for me to get back on track too.

Northernclipper, i wish i was as close to England as you are ;) it took us 22 hours to get back home :tired: i love to go but hate the trip

Got rid of that virus but my email account is messed up so think i'll have to delete then reinstall Incredimail if not i'll just use Outlook..i'm just so happy that i got rid of the *ugger

northernclipper 03-04-2004 08:15 PM

hello ladies

m I glad to hear you are using a future trip as a motivator , I am doing the same thing. I think I told you this Feb04 we celebrated our 25th anniversary and dh got us tickets to Europe. This spring we head to Italy, Monaco, Nice, Paris and then to England to visit friends. This trip motivated me to lose or try to lose the 30 lbs I've put on over the Years(lost 11 so far) If we stay op we'll both make it. ;)

M I am glad to hear you enjoyed your trip and got rid of the virus. I sure it's fine to go off track when travelling and enjoying yourself but, we all know when it ends it's back to op. The trip itself should make the extra work worth it.

I've just got in from my nightly walk and plan to take it easy ,I already did the treadmill and weights. So I'll call it a night take care ladies til tomorrow.

Trixi 03-04-2004 09:06 PM

Cat Welcome home!!!!!

Had a good day earlier but now I am not feeling so great...Goign to go to bed soon and sleep off my depression. Tomorrow will be better day.

Good night all.

Zanne 03-04-2004 09:26 PM

Wow!

This thread is getting mighty long! That's a good thing! :D

I think I'm really getting ADDICTED to exercising!!! I went for my training walk this morning and just now finished a half hour on the elliptical. :dancer: I can tell I'm getting fitter (although the fat seems to be sticking around :p ). When I started on the elliptical about a month ago, it was difficult to get in even just one little jog. Today I jogged nearly the whole half hour.

The marathon has decided to make and early start time for those who will be walking the half marathon. I have to find out whether or not I'll be able to do stints of jogging with my walking. If not, I guess I'll have to join the "running" group.

I'm really surprising myself! I've never been a runner--or even a jogger for that matter. So I guess it's true: you just have to brush yourself off after tripping on the bumps and keep going.

CAT--Glad you had a nice trip. 22 hours to get back home??? YIKES! Hope you get over the jet lag soon.

TRIXI--Feel better!

NORTHERN--You're nearly halfway to your goal! Keep up the good work and you'll look awsome for your European tour.

M--those .4 losses add up! And it's better than a gain.

GLEN--Are you lurking?

Time for my grapefruit. Have a good evening everyone!

cat90 03-05-2004 02:26 PM

Hi Girls,

Susanne, i was wondering about Glen too :?: hope i did'nt leave him in England  WOW girl you are doing great with the exercising :bravo:

Northern, wish i'd done that for my trip but it was'nt guaranteed that we were going because we were only there last September  sad really that i need a trip to find motivation  anyway, this year i've got relatives coming to us so i've got until July to work at it and show them a new me :D

Trixi, hope you feel better after a good nights sleep :D i'm missing something here what does FDC stand for?

DewCan 03-05-2004 02:54 PM

Cathy, the FDC is for the Father's Day Challenge that Trixi and I are both in on the Support forum. There's always some new code isn't there?
Zanne, keep up the great work, you are really getting fitter, sounds good.
well ladies, I'm down 1 pound this week. I've been the same for 3 weeks or so and now I'm finally down. Just before we move too, so that's nice.
Have a great day

cat90 03-05-2004 04:07 PM

Well Done Diana :bravo: thats great to see the scale moving once again :D Thanks for the explanation about FDC, just when is that? June 20th or something? :o i'm bad with those dates

Trixi 03-05-2004 07:45 PM

Hi all...I had a much better day today. I stayed on track and Its friday night and I exercised!!! GO ME!! I am heading out for a bit and hope not to over indulge. I am going to limit myself to two glasses of wine. Hopefully the exercise will make it all even. (wishful thinking)

DewCan......Hope everything goes great for you while you are away. We will miss you lots.

Cat I know exactly how you feel about exercising....I have to go into my bedroom, lock the door and tell everyone their will be some serious arguing if they come in. I cant do it in front of anyone and concentrate.

I have tons of work to do but will post more later when I have put a dent in it.

Dale

northernclipper 03-06-2004 12:14 PM

Hello everyone

Diana have a great trip and think of us , we'll be thinking of you and wishing you only the best.
Susanne with all your jogging I bet in no time you'll see the fat turn firm and into muscle. Good luck with the marathon.
Cathy we have to find motivation where ever we can and run with it.

Trixi 03-06-2004 06:58 PM

Well it's almost 7pm and I am exhausted!!! I felt sluggish all day because of last nights wine frenzy and it took alot of energy just to clean my bathroom and bedroom (guess I will be busy tomorrow) I ate breafkast at 1pm and I ate lunch at five. I know I have to eat again so I can get enought protien in.

I did exercise today. I am starting to enjoy my WATP dvd and the 2 mile makes me feel good. It's been five days in a row that I kept at it. I didn't weigh myself this morning cause I didn't want to feel even more guilty about last night. Tonight we are just staying in and watching movies. So I hope its a early night for me.

Talk to you all tomorrow!!!

cat90 03-07-2004 02:51 PM

Dale, Great Job with the exercise :cp: i have yet to start mine  trouble is i keep coming online and STAYING online  i really must force myself to do something today ;) wise move staying away from the scale because thats a sure fire way to make you feel worse if the :censored: has gone up  I'm trying to decide which plan to start again :chin: count cals? Slimming World or WeightWatchers  decisions, decisions

Trixi 03-07-2004 05:21 PM

Good evening and happy Sunday. Today was my official weigh in with the father's day challenge I am doing and I have lost a total of 14 pounds. 10 since I started last week. I know its the first week loss and it will slow down but I am thrilled and more motivated to continue.

Cat90 I too find myself coming back to the computer room several times a day and have to force myself to get off. I did get my exercise in today and cleaned the house, made my meals for the week. So now its relaxing time.

Going to watch extreme makeover home edition tonight so I can cry like a baby.

take care

Dale

hefty1 03-07-2004 10:31 PM

 trixi: wtg on the loss
on saturday i didn't do the scale thing because stayed home and cleaned my apartment.
i was exhausted and i had a few beer. i'll have to be good this week.
:) glen

cat90 03-08-2004 02:15 PM

Hi Girls and Glen

Dale, WOW thats fantastic :cp: how did you manage to lose 10lbs in one week?
Well, i finally managed to get my butt moved yesterday and i walked 2mls..not much but a start :) i'm going to do some in a minute when i move..i am, i am, i am :o and if i don't make sure that you give me :censored:

Hiya Glen, don't worry about the few beers you'll get back on track ;)

impixy 03-08-2004 09:45 PM

i'm new here

hello,
I've just joined up here at 3fatchicks, and I was wondering if you guys would mind adding another Canadian to the mix? My names Melissa and I'm from Guelph, ON. I've read through most of this thread and I think it's great how supportive you guys are.
melissa

cat90 03-08-2004 09:57 PM

Hi Melissa

So glad that you chose to join us :cp: we are glad to have you here ;)

I managed to walk another 2mls today :) wanted to do more but had to run an errand so i'll settle for that :)

Trixi 03-08-2004 10:01 PM

Welcome impixy....jump on board!!! I sister in law lives and works in Guelph. It's a beautiful place.

Cat90 I tend to lose really fast at the beginning, probably from all the water I retain. If I don't stick to the plan I gain it back just as fast. My program is really strict and getting off of it for even one meal can put me behind two days! So this time I will sick to it! and also considering I have never really exercised and have done my WATP's 2 mile everyday I think helps speed things up for me as well. I know it will taper off and soon it will be slow and steady, just got to keep motivated to I don't mess up.

You guys and the challenge I have joined on the other thread have really helped me get through the last few weeks. I know we are all here for the same reason and it makes me feel a whole lot better when I know I am not the only one who has to work at this.

HEFTY my challenge this week is no beer and I am jealous!!!! Next week its coffee.

Have a great day all!!!!

Dale

Deborah17 03-09-2004 12:49 AM

Hi Impixy,

I haven't been here long but this is a great bunch.

I made it to the gym Sunday. I missed Saturday as friends to me out to an all you can eat buffet, which I am usually good at...lots of veggies, a sout and lean meat usually, but they had BBQ, baked beef ribs!!!!! My absolute favourite. I over ate so badly at lunch, I couldn't even bend over ...I swear...the great/sad thing is that I ate les than half of what I could have eaten last year...what a difference a year can make LOL

So I mamagaed to get to the gym tonight...it is my cardio only night...I have become quite the gym rat... I average about 5 times a week.

but I came home and had nachos tonight...although I didn't eat much, about a serving, maybe 1 1/2 serving, but it was after 10pm...a big nono on my plan.....

Aaahh well, tomorrow is another day....

night all

Deborah

Zanne 03-09-2004 07:49 AM

Good Sunny Morning

Hi Everyone!

GLEN--Glad to see you're still here! Isn't it nice to be missed by all these ladies :)

DEWCAN--We'll miss you. Good luck with your move.

Thanks for all the encouragement gang. I think I'm doing really well. Sunday was my day for a longer training session. I walked 4 miles in 50 minutes. I got in a couple of jogs and I even did a big sprint at the end.

My eating is much improved from what it once was. On most evenings, the chips I used to eat have been replaced with grapefruit. And my portions are smaller. And it seems things do not tempt me as much. I made banana bread last night, which I just love, and only had 2 small slices--I had made mini loaves, so the slices weren't too big.

I think I have to work more at my water intake. Some days are just not good with that.

I've got to go get the little guy ready for school. Just wanted to do a quick check in.

Make it a GREAT day people!
