Bore Cow

sorry to start such a dismal thread, but i am a borecow this week---as kiwi can attest it has been raining or snowing all week---damp ,cold, ugly weather----all heading to the dreaded winter------and the time will change this week meaning it will be dark at suppertime------Ds9 started HOCKEY this week---he is over the moon about it, and i am dreading freezing me arse off at the rink-----he looked SO cute in his gear and so CANADIAN fer shure!!!!---------GO MARLINS!!!!!!!

Cowpernia 10-23-2003 12:03 PM

Let's see. What can I write? I am the American version of Borecow. Our kids look American when they wear shorts and tee shirts. My son never wears shorts. He always wears tee shirts. Can he be half-American?

Have you ever hard of "Oppositional Disorder?" It's the new label you can apply to your kid if they are bratty. Then you can medicate them. A woman I know has a 13-yo girl who is constantly in trouble with the law; skips school; hits her mom. Now, she has something to blame it on.

Kiwonk 10-23-2003 07:57 PM

Really Americans wear polarfleece over their t-shirts.

Kiwonk 10-23-2003 07:59 PM

Yeah, I've heard of Oppositional Disorder. It used to be called "being contrary".

I have a disorder too: it's called Occupational Aversion Disorder. I want my medications.

i have OAD too kiwi---------sometimes i even feel guilty cause i won't SUBSTITUTE teach and LUSHbat does--------but then it goes away and i feel much better.gotta go watch ER----anyone heard from Suga????

Wabby 10-24-2003 01:28 PM

Nope, haven't heard from Sugar, didn't even hear anything when she snuck onto our continent.

I've been off having the mother of all headaches.:headache: It made me miss another beautiful fall day. I couldn't even take my head out from under the pillow to enjoy it. I wish I could get back all the migraine days of my life.

I am the northwest version of Bore Cow. My plans for the weekend? Waving goodbye to DH as he goes fishing all day on Saturday. waaaah.

I have OAD too. I do go to the office, I just do everything I can do to actually avoid work once I get here. There is nothing fascinating about sending out billings, nagging ppl to pay their bills, getting money, sending out money to pay my bills. It's like doing dishes. Endless and boring.

My son spent years not wearing shorts. For some reason he thought his legs were too hairy. Now for some reason he wears shorts again. He and gf are moving out of the house across the street from us. They've decided to rent a condo - less money, less maintenance than a house. He will miss his Dad's shop.

Now, was that boring enough for you? I should go take digital photos of the pretty fall foliage and send to you. I should, but I probably won't get around to it.

Kiwonk 10-24-2003 02:10 PM

Yes you should, our foliage is all over with -- the leaves haven't all fallen yet, but the colors have petered out to that general washed out yellow. blah.

I'm sitting around here waiting for dd and her science lab partners to show up, then I'll go around the house looking like "I do housework all day long, woe is me." Cuz that's the kind of person I am. Yep

I think I heard Sugar land, but I could be mistaken.

I often don't get around to wearing shorts until about July, for the same reason as your ds, Wabbit.

Not doing particularly well with my walking lately. My walking club is finished for the season, and you know I need someone standing over me with a whip to make me do anything. It's time for me to break out the exercise videos, but the thought makes me weak with fatigue........ I think I need a shot of adrenaline.

Kiwonk 10-24-2003 02:12 PM

and no, that's nobody I know. But that is one awesome yawn.

Cowpernia 10-25-2003 09:24 AM

Sugar is in Florida. She and I are wearing bathing suits and polar-freece-Hawaiian-print throws around our hips.

I have not been notified lately of postings here and was thinking no one was home. I was gonna come sing. So I still will.

See other end of baby for reply.

Kiwonk 10-25-2003 01:36 PM

On second thought, that was a lovely rendition, Peach-Cow. Did the Indian maiden drown? All Indian songs end in death, don't they?

Saw Solaris last night. DH hated it. It was rather slow and didn't make the most sense, I suppose. But I liked it. Sort of. The acting was good, although the characters were a bit thin. And it was beautifully filmed. The love story was not very compelling, which is unfortunate, because George Clooney is definitely quite lovely. Although I am convinced that that full-body naked back shot was not him.

Thus ends my creative pursuit for the day. I'm thinking of canning tomatoes today. I only have about 7 or 8 ripe ones. But then, I only have a few canning jars, so maybe that makes sense.

Back to you.

Kiwi

Lush 10-25-2003 02:58 PM

Canning tomatoes? you're making me tired.

My stint as a full time worker is almost over and boy, I can't wait. My life works much better when I just work when I feel like it.

My computer's been down for a few days...now I'm too busy to talk because I could write this message on top of this table. Tomorrow is DH's birthday and I have NOTHING done...I'm going to go slap on a book on tape and give the house one honest hour. bye

Oh don't worry, I'm still only thinking about it. I did, however, pull my garden out, finally. It was astoundingly easy, because the soil was so loose. The whole lasagna garden thing worked pretty well. It'll be even better next year.

Whatcha gonna give/do for DH for his birthday? :hb:

Kiwi Tomato Personage, I have a question. DS has a website he'd like to get to. You know the one. You got there one day and he couldn't. He can't get there on his laptop either from our house but he takes the laptop to school and it comes up. The ISP woman says we need to get our computer checked out at their store. She can get to the site and says she does it over and over just to be sure (she's not rocket scientist stuff). Do you have an idea on this?

Sincerely,

Cowpernia Peaches Personage

Kiwonk 10-25-2003 10:32 PM

Heyloooooooooooooo I remember when we did that, but I don't remember what website it was. Hmm. I would think maybe it had to do with the version of Internet Explorer you are using, but if DS can get it on his laptop at school, that is not likely the case. I would suggest that your isp is the problem. Some isp's don't allow constant updating of every page -- they use a cached version and that could be a problem. The other possibility would be maybe they have the website blocked for some reason.

Bagzz 10-26-2003 12:15 AM

you two talk about that boring website crap on your own time----talk about BORE cows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-----------oh welcome back working cow Lush---you were missed.i can write on my tables too!!!

Cowpernia 10-26-2003 07:42 AM

The isp wife says they don't and can't block anything. I don't know about updating because it doesn't come up at all.

Good morning, Bagziepoo. *kiss* *kiss* How's your weight? I lost a pound or two. Yay.

muffie 10-26-2003 12:20 PM

You all don't know boring!!

I'm the boring one. Kids, work, and that's it. Oh yea, add the fact that 99% of the adults talked to are on the pc. Not that I don't enjoy you all, but I need to get a life!

Pumpkin had a friend spend the night last night. We went to a pumpkin farm and did the hayride, etc., thing, hit the park and then came home and ordered pizza. Granny had just bought pumpkin a dry erase board and that is the ONLY toy they have played with. Well, the 3 of us did do the Miss Mary Mack thing a million times. :dizzy:

I should be cleaning today, but I am going to take the girls to play at my parents (they are having a tea party with my mom) and I am off to the office for a few hours.

Colors are changing here, but it is supposed to be 90 here today!!! I am ready for some cool weather!! I want to use the wood burning stove!! I want to sit on my porch and watch it rain!!! (YEa, remind that in a couple of weeks when I am complaining about driving to work in the rain!! ):smug:

I wonder if Sugar is having a good time??

Kiwonk 10-26-2003 02:08 PM

Peachbutt

this is driving me insane. Get on AIM this minute so I can talk to you.

I can't see my tables, so there.

Muffie, you're not boring. I'm boring! I didn't do anything like that yesterday. I didn't do much of anything as a matter of fact. Oh yeah, I yanked plants out, that's it. God I'm boring. You, on other hand, are the mother of a little girl--aren't they wonderful? When DD was that age, every time she had a friend over, all they wanted to do was play dress up. And I was treated to many a fashion show, often accompanied with music and dancing. A lot of it is on film :s: Heh heh. Someday that will come in handy.

I am all congested. Ick.

I'm going next door and meet the new neighbors. (No, silly, nobody built a house in my backyard, I'm talking about the Royals that moved in here on this forum)

Kiwi

Amarantha2 10-26-2003 04:55 PM

You guys are hilarious! Hmmm. I'd say you are definitely NOT boring, but you seem to want to be, so, uh, I'll just say thanks to Kiwonk for welcoming our Courtly Challengers to this part of the forum!! :)

That was nice, Kiwonk!

Cowpernia 10-26-2003 06:52 PM

Cowpernia 10-26-2003 09:19 PM

date them? have we had guys? What is Courtly Challenger? Where are my crack-laced mints and chicken legs?

Lush 10-27-2003 07:43 AM

Your chicken legs are under your cow hips.

Should I be mad that NO ONE in my family remembered that my DD had surgery this summer? Never asked how she was? Too late, I already am. They are all bugging me to execute the will, but to be honest....I just don't feel like it. I think I'll go to work....1.5 more weeks until I'm free. Turns out third graders can be as annoying as first graders...without the bathroom uncertainty.
Should I bake a cake and take it next door? DH always says to beware of the first neighbor who visits you in a new neighborhood.
Is Sugar having fun? Why can't she post?
bye

Cowpernia 10-27-2003 08:13 AM

Wabby 10-27-2003 01:16 PM

wow.wow.wow. Amarantha woman! Your numbers are so very impressive! Tell us how you lose 90.5 pounds! We are pretty durn amusing. To us, anyway. I'm so happy Lushy and Bagzie are back posting here in their usual hi larry *** way. Peachy probably isn't as happy about it. Turkey carcass???? that hurt. Chicken legs?? owie. Peachy you know I'd never say such things. I'd be afraid I'd get them back. So you've put your lasagna bed to sleep for the winter, Kiwi? Did you really can your tomatoes? My sil makes freezer salsa that is yummers out of her tomatoes. I like this rambling, no paragraph way of posting. What is flylady saying about Christmas preparations, Bagz? I haven't even got a pumpkin for Halloween yet. I spent all weekend out in the yard - it was sunny and 75 degrees. Muffie, I used to do the pumpkin patch thing with the kiddos. No kiddos to do that with anymore. We visited a friend who's grown children were over w/ the grandbabies. So cute. A 4 yr old boy, a 2 yr old girl, and a 3 month old baby. Maybe old age won't be so bad if I get to have grandbabies. Not that I'm ready for that yet. because you know I'm just a young chickie. :chicken: We have Krispy Kreme donut shops here, but I have never indulged. Not something I want to get started on. I am a food addict. I can't start, because then I never stop. I bought a cake mix and frosting in a can with Halloween decoration stuff. I was going to make cupcakes to take to work and give my kids. I didn't make the cake, but I did open the frosting and licked about 1/2 the can off my finger. I think maybe I should just take all the stuff and throw it in the trash because I obviously can't be trusted with it. Go visit your new neighbor, Lush. We want a report.

Kiwonk 10-27-2003 05:02 PM

Hi Amarantha -- delighted to meet you and your CC's!

Although from looking up references to it, there are still some people who can get into it, but have also seen people saying they can't. I can't. You can't. DS'll get over it. From what I hear he was just going to say rude things about Martha Stewart anyway...

1-Absolutely. Always hold grudges against thoughtless relatives; I do

2-I managed to pee in class in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade. So there.

3-Yes, maybe they will avoid you in future.

MMM Krispy Kreme I  Krispy Kreme! Spell it with K's, Bagz, just like my name. MMMM. I don't really think they'd survive the trip from FL to NB. I can't even get them here. boohoo I always buy them when I visit my family in NC. Then my mother eats most of them.

1-I'm still contemplating canning tomatoes -- I actually got out the jars and lids this afternoon (then I got on the 'puter...)

2-I'm doing the exact opposite today: the totally anal, numbered and organized reply -- sickening isn't it? Maybe tomorrow I'll go rambling.

3-Neither have I! It's almost too late!

4-You really are bad! (like I should talk--I ate everything in the house yesterday, I think -- I was so bloated when I went to bed I couldn't sleep. Lordy, I'm actually so disgusted with myself I may not look at food for a while. You know, a couple of minutes)

I have to go read up on hot pack vs cold pack.

NO MORE KRISPY CREAM TALKING AROUND HERE!!!!!!!!

Lush, do you have a lawyer helping you execute the will? If not, and if you run into any snags, let me know. I can direct you to some resources that may help you. I have some experience when I worked for the boss from ****!

Bagzie, I am on my way!!! Snow!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Wabby will make an excellent Nana when it happens! How fun!! When I was at the pumpkin farm this dad holding a two month old sat down next to me. We started talking about kids, and he let me hold the baby. Schwwwwwweeeeeeettttttt!! (As pumkin would say, and I think it actually means cool these days!) I love babies!!

Who said they had a relative that makes freezer salsa? Was I imagining this??? I need details.

I still don't know what the heck a lasagna garden is.

I wouldn't say that Peachers dates the newbies, I would say that she puts them through the test as a parent would when a boy comes to pick up their daughter for the first time!!

It is girl's night here. The boy child got a last minute invite to go hear Michael Moore (sp?) speak this evening. Personally, I don't agree with a lot of Moore's political talking, but believe me, it is right up the boy child's alley!! There have been many of errrrr, debates (read knock down drag outs) in this household because of our opposing views, but I am thrilled he is getting the opportunity. Although we knock heads on politics, I am thrilled and impressed by his sticking to his beliefs. He just needs to learn when/where/and how to respectfully debate/discuss them.

 Hello to the new neighbors!! You all sound like a grande group!

Time to go eat dinner. Nothing good for me, chicken salad sandwich that granny made. But she at least uses the skinny mayo and even divides that in half with yogurt. Now tell me, how did she know that I was craving that all weekend??? I am half way home from work tonite and she calls the cell to tell me to stop by on the way home and pick it up!!

Have I ever told you all how I love her so????!!!

Cowpernia 10-28-2003 07:58 AM

that is mizteareious, Kiwi. DS got into the site here last night but also somebody I dont' know sent him instructions on how to get around and sneak in there. But he didn't need them. It came up on his laptop. He says it's updated so not gone gone.

It's raining here.

This is what I'm disturbed about. This sweet little man who wife recently died came into the paper with some old stuff that was interesting, kind of, so I wrote about it. A few days later, he says he's coming in with more old stuff. He comes in with old stuff AND two articles he's written about them. His byline is the biggest thing on these handwritten pages which are first drafts and which don't have any particular subject. I don't want him to have his feelings hurt and it bothers me. I told him to come talk to the editor about this in a few days. Sad. He's nice.

Bye.

Wabby 10-28-2003 11:52 AM

Cowper, I have no advice to give on how to let the old guy down gently. We used to have a sweet old lady who would bring little glass objects into our shop to have various repairs done to them, like grinding down little sharp spots, etc. Now mind you, this is not what our company does, we would be broke if we paid journeymen glaziers to do that all day. Anywho, after we started doing these little favors for her we couldn't shake her. Eventually she got old enough to get her driver's license revoked so she couldn't get here. One thing about old folks, eventually the problem will take care of itself. As it will for all of us. gulp.

Wabby 10-28-2003 11:53 AM

Oooo. I forgot to tell you all - a salesman brought Krispy Kreme donuts into the office this morning. News flash - - - these things are just donuts. I don't get what the big deal is.

:rollpin: WHAT???? HOW DARE YOU SPEAK ILL OF MY LIFELONG LOVE?

Psst: Bagz, don't tell her which ones are the ones to die for :ziplip: -- she's better off not knowing.

Cowp, I don't think the little old man will keel over if you inform him that your paper doesn't have room for too many articles of this nature, or that a reporter generally has to do the reporting herself. Y'know, even if it's not true.

And I still can't get in that site. What's the trick?

Tomorrow I have to peel carrots for 3 hours. Doesn't that sound exciting? I signed up to help prepare a big turkey supper for the Performing Arts Boosters fundraiser. At least this way I won't feel bad about not showing up the next day to eat there :s:

Well that just won't do, come back here and keep me company!

I have the salsa making relative. I'll see if she can give me her recipe.

Kiwonk 10-28-2003 10:02 PM

Funny....

Funny strange, not funny haha.........
When I don't seem to have anything to say, I often come back later and realize I have done a whole lot of stuff, possibly not worth mentioning, but a lot of stuff nevertheless. Today I ironed a bunch of shirts (? ), canned tomatoes (don't get too excited--I did 3 jars, but I did pressure can them), and made a really yummy stir-fried chicken and rice for dinner. :encore:

Now I'm stuffed.

I have a recipe for salsa that a friend gave me that is pretty yummy -- I don't know if you'd call it freezer salsa, but I put some of it in the freezer when I made it once :dizzy:. It had fresh cilantro in it, which gives it a very fresh and distinctive flavor. I'll be getting some more tomatoes ripening in the next week I think (they're indoors, but they're still going strong), so maybe I'll make some of that too. Could probably use a few green tomatoes in the mix as well; that would give it some oomph!

Here's what happened to my three jars of tomatoes: when I took them out of the pressure cooker, they looked half full of water, with the tomatoes at the top, and the water at the bottom. I never did tomatoes before, so I don't know if that's normal. I didn't add any water at all, it's all from the tomatoes. Looks pretty weird.

Lotta trouble to go through for 3 pints, isn't it? I don't care, I feel like I did something worthwhile anyway. And that's what's important isn't it? That I feel good about it :soap:

:flow1:

Ta I get to sleep late tomorrow -- DD's school did so badly on the state assessment tests that they have scheduled the freshman class for a weekly morning session of something or other, and the rest of the school doesn't have to show up until 8:25.

Here's how dumb her school admin is: they announced yesterday that the middle school would not be allowed to dress up for Halloween (the middle and high schools are in the same building, although run separately). No reason given. Today they announced that the highschool would not be allowed to dress up for Halloween because the middle school wasn't allowed to. One student went to the office and complained, and they changed their minds. Apparently just for the high school. Does any of that make any sense?

You must go to this page and look at this photo. It is beautiful. http://marn.diaryland.com/peacekeeper.html

Cowpernia 10-29-2003 07:13 AM

amazing picture. I was looking for elves.

Cowpernia 10-29-2003 08:05 AM

I live in the land of Fall Festivals. This means Halloween is on the way out but on Oct. 31, churches all over have parties with candy for kids and they can wear costumes as long as they're not devily.

Speaking of devily. For year DS and I have gone monthly usually to get hair cuts from the same guy. DS always goes monthly. Never been to anyone else in maybe five years. He's also cheap but Dogpatch is cheap.

Yesterday, DS got a haircut. He tried (for the first time ever) to sell the guy some popcorn for his scout fund raiser. Guy said, "I don't see anything on there I want."

So I think WE're loyal. HE'S not loyal. I no longer feel compelled to be loyal. The point of fund raisers is to support kids and schools and scouts. He can afford the popcorn ($7 minimum) and has made a lot of money off us.

I'm not petty, right? He's a jerk, right? Of course, I'm not going to start taking DS to a barber who charges more just out of spite. Will look around.

Also, yesterday my boss asked me where a story was he'd assigned to me. I hadn't done it. Didn't go to the event. I felt SOOO bad. It was at the hospital and they have a PR woman who is pill. I've gone to things there and she's told me that SHE's the one who does things on the hospital for the paper. She took pictures but didn't turn them in. I am so embarassed. Trying to track down the pictures but boss was mad. He didnt' say anything but I could see his facial expression. Bad Peaches.

Now I'm taking my turkey carcas butt into the shower. Bye.

I rented a movie from the library called "Drum Line." never heard of it but it was wonderful. About a college marching band and a talented kid who has a bad attitude. All that's entertaining about marching bands is in the movie I think. Not that I'd know of course.

Wabby 10-29-2003 12:05 PM

Kiwi, I know what you mean about the tomato canning. I don't do tomatoes, but I make this Ginger Pear butter every year. (anyway the last 2 years) There is something about the jars lined up on the kitchen counter that gives some sort of satisfaction. Must be the nesting instinct, or the squirrel instinct, or something to that effect.

Peachers, don't get so angry with your haircutter. Maybe he's on a diet, or maybe he just got hit up by the last kid sitting in his barber's chair, or maybe he's just burned out by all the fundraisers by all the schools and sports teams and girlscouts, and cub scouts, and outdoor school fundraisers, and kid selling wrapping paper, and kid selling candy bars, and kid selling pepperoni sticks and kid selling Christmas wreaths, etc. Doesn't mean that he won't buy the next time DS has a fund raiser, or maybe he just has a no fundraiser policy at his shop. And don't feel bad about work - think of all the times you DO complete your assignment. And if you'd like to completely disregard the last two blurbs of advice, that would be fine, and I won't get either angry or feel bad. :dizzy:

It's the next day and there are still 2 of these d*mn donuts left here in the office.

The sunny autumn is gone. We're into gray and rainy. Supposed to be nice for the little trick or treaters on friday, though. My little trick or treaters grew up and we don't get any neighborhood kids that will walk down that long. dark driveway for a candy bar. Boo.

Bagzz 10-29-2003 02:56 PM

i have nothing interesting to say except that dieting is eternallly BORing and now that i have lost ten pounds and regained two i am bored and why not just regain the other eight in time to start my Christmas Pig Out-------LOSING weight is HARD,but keeping if OFF is WAYYYYYYYY harder. That is all for now. ****. and devil and arse.
