Wabby, the boy has no time to get a job I think. He gets on a school bus at 6:45 and gets home at 5:00 or so. We don't live near any businesses or restaruants. He is supposed to keep up his truly outstanding scholastic successes and haul in a lot of scholarships. He's just not driving. Maybe when he's older like MuffieBoy.

The day was excellent. There were two fulltime aides and one greeted me with, "We'll handle everything. You're just a warm body. You may want to close your eyes and ears at times." The kids were the kind who I foresee as part of the inmate populations. They all swore, had little patience, didn't stay on task. But this one aide, the one who greeted, me was more than wonderful. She sang and danced and cajoled them and never lost her temper.

Today was the day DD started back to her private music lessons -- this year she is taking voice as well as guitar. Fortunately the lessons are back-to-back. It's still an hour drive each way. But soon she will be sharing the driving!

Wabby, I want to point out that I think your idea is GREAT and I wish ds had a job. Would mature him and develop some self-confidence but since we can't do it all, I would opt for staying on the course he's succeeding at right now. Does Succeed have all those C's and E's in it for real?

No, Kiwieenie. I didn't do a thing other than walk a kid to the nurse for his pill; attempt to help the biggest boy with some science but he was distracted by the other side of the room; attempt to help the smallest boy find a test on the computer but he wanted the aide NOT ME and made it really clear. I did enjoy lunch and get to sub in the art room in two weeks.

Sug-- so sorry about FIL. those sorts of things unbalance the WHOLE family system. Hope your DH has all the soothing and comfort HE needs.

My kid's dad didn't WANT him to work. "Get good grades and study, son"... Well, son wasn't all that motivated and so he didn't expect all that much of himself and just schlepped around. Well, he's surrepticiously gotten a job at the college bookstore, AND is TA'ing a physics class and GRADES ARE ACTUALLY BETTER!!!! Go figure.

Cowabunga... congrats on making it through the day. Can hardly wait to hear about you subbing in the art room! (How old ARE these kids?) Maybe the Special Ed ones were all victims of shaken baby syndrome... So sad when that happens...

Have I posted lately? I don't remember. I think posting on these boards is very similar to journaling. I find myself too boring to keep up with a real journal, too. I run out of things to say within a day. But on this board,there is nothing too trivial for me to go on and on and on and on about. Isnt' that what journaling is???? giving a place to the minutiae of your thoughts.
Speaking of minutiae, I am de-junking today. I have already thrown out four HUGE trash bags...the kind that line a full sized trash can. I am going to go throw away some more.

Special ed kids are my favorites. Art is fun, too. Worst is a normal 1st grade class. They think they are cute. They have problems judging when they need to go to the bathroom.

Peach, your priorities (school first, driving - way down the list) is the best way to go. Besides, he can always drive with a permit (and his mom sitting next to him) with no increase in insurance. It always amazed me that having a kid driving with a permit didn't raise premiums, but if they took a driving test that essentially certified the fact that they know how to drive, their insurance goes sky high.

I'm not feeling well. first day of you-know. bleeeh. I think I may go home.

I dunno if I could ever do a public journal - I'd be afraid someone might read it! We'll see. Would probably be a good way to get rid of some of this existential angst, or whatever it's called. This place is like one big fat group blog. We should be on Oprah right after Dr. Phil.

Dh is actually considering moving us all to Vancouver! Wheeee!!! Don't know how or when, but we're looking into it. Will probably have to take up a collection. I'd miss the butcher's wife terribly

2 boneless skinless chicken breasts, chopped in 1 inch (or so) chunks

1/2 yellow onion, diced

1 small potatoe, diced

3 cloves garlic, diced

2 chile peppers of your choice, diced (remove veins/seeds if you don't want all of the spice)

1/2 can of bean of your choice

3 roma tomatoes, diced

2-3 tbs of chile powder (I put a dried poblano into the spice grinder)

Olive oil

Put enough olive oil in the pan to saute the onion, potatoe, garlic and chiles. Saute until 1/2 cooked and remove from pan. Add and saute the chicken. When chicken is just about done, sprinkle in 1/2 of the chili powder and coat chicken. Saute about 3 minutes. Add the onion mixture, beans, and tomatoes. Stir and then add salt/pepper and the rest of the chile powder. Cover and cook on low for 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Use for burrito's, taco's or over rice. Serves 2 people.

No interview calls this morning. I guess I will continue to clean my room. I actually have clothes hanging in my closet and you can see the floor!! I have to rearrange the furniture so that I can bring the dresser that pumpkin and I share out of her teeny room and put it in my room. My only problem is the victorian settee (sp?) that granny gave me. Can't find a wall for it. My bed has to be in the middle of the room because my room used to be the garage, then they turned it into a living room with a wood burning stove. Under my bed is this big sqaure of huge stones that was used for the hearth. Makes it difficult to arrange stuff in there.
