Default Steel Magnolias #48

Good evening. It’s 85 at 9:30 pm. We’re watching the Cubs ballgame. So far, so good.

Called the utilities to get them to mark the water turnoff, but didn’t do anything today. It has been a rough few days again, but not much I can do about it. I just put one foot in front of the other. I did spend quite a bit of time finding recipes to fit my eating better.

I am hoping the water heater guy calls tomorrow.

Low fat donuts
  • 1 cup unbleached whole wheat flour sifted
  • 1/4 cup Truvia Baking Blend Natural Sweetener* or any other sweetener
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 tablespoon butter melted
  • 1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons skim milk
  • Your favorite toppings: cinnamon and sugar, powdered sugar, vanilla bean glaze (recipe below), melted chocolate, strawberries

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
  2. Grease your donut pan with a baking spray that has flour in it
  3. Mix – flour, sugar, cinnamon, salt, baking powder and baking soda in a large mixing bowl.
  4. In a smaller bowl, gently whisk together egg whites, melted butter, skim milk, and vanilla.
  5. Stir wet mixture into the dry ingredients.
  6. Fill donut pan until each is about 3 quarters full making sure you don’t overfill.
  7. Bake for 14-17 minutes. Donuts should be golden brown and an inserted toothpick should come out clean.
  8. Allow to cool for 5-10 minutes.
  9. Tip donuts out onto a wire rack. Tap on the back of the pan if you have a few sticky ones.
Top with anything you like. For a vanilla glaze, mix 1/2 cup of powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon milk and a splash of vanilla extract. To top, simply wet your fingers with a little water and run it through the tops of the donut, then dip it in your favorite topping

CeeJay: Thought I’d give you a donut recipe to help you out. 60 calories and 1 gram fat each. My son is my first born and he was 9 lbs 10 oz, 22 inches long and had a 14 inch head!!! He is 6’4” and weighs about 230 or so. Scary as he is getting near 50 yrs old. He’ll be 46 next month.

Everyone have a good evening.

Good Afternoon! The sun is shining and the air was really thick this morning. The weatherman says it will hit 90 this afternoon then start cooling down. We counted church money this morning; not much there so we balanced and were done before 9:00. My doctor appointment went fine yesterday. I was impressed in that my appointment was right on time. I got a cortisone shot which the nurse said would make my thumb numb for a couple hours, which it did. It seems to be looser today so hope it is working. The doctor said surgery is a possibility and that’s no big deal as he’s had it done on two fingers. I forgot to go to card club last night! My church co-counter called me to see if I was coming. I was embarrassed! I guess I had my thumb appointment on my mind and didn’t think beyond that. I even took high, not because I had good cards but I had good partners.

“Gma,” I agree about the website being wacky! I don’t like it when I can’t go back and reread a previous posts. My knitting endeavors have all been straight across, knit and/or purl, nothing fancy. I admire your projects, they are always beautiful! Have you made the donut recipe? They are one thing I can pass up and not miss.

Ceejay, we stop at a convenience store half way to or from Ian and Zowie’s games. They make their donuts and pastries fresh in the middle of the night, every night. One night it was about 10:30 and we needed gas. I watched the clerk take the trays of donuts, etc. out of the case and dump them in the garbage. We went inside and I asked her if they always dump the leftovers (what a waste!) and she said every night! If they get caught taking one they will be fired. I had a wrong cell # one time and the voice mail was in Spanish. I thought I had dialed the wrong number so tried it again, same thing. A few minutes later the guy called me back wanting to know what I wanted. His English was very broken and I tried to explain I was give the wrong number and was sorry to bother him. I’m not sure if he understood or not.

I have to write checks for the gift shop so better get that done then I can deliver them tomorrow. Hope you all enjoy a nice day!

My dental appointment went very well yesterday. My dentist is still in Branson just because I like them there. I spent the night with sis at the condo. I did go shopping and bought a couple of tops. One is Alfred Dunner and the other is Kim Rogers.
Bil's scan was good in some ways and not so good in some ways. He thought and was hoping that he would have surgery this time but the tumor is still to close to a blood vessel. He said that the doctors were not as concerned about his liver. So good news and bad news. There was no spreading so that's good news also.
Haven't heard from the nephew. It's like he's vanished from the earth but hasn't. His mom, my sis, hasn't heard from him and I'm not sure that his wife is talking to him.
I want to work outside in some flower beds but it is still to hot at 95 degrees.

Jean
I didn't realize that you were having problems with your thumb. Joint pain is one of my complaints this time around for a visit to the doctor's. My thumb is my number one joint problem. It's sore all the time and can't pick up any thing with this hand, left. It feels like it may be in the muscle/tendon too.
gma22
Your son was half grown when he was born. I'm going to keep this doughnut recipe. I need to be planning my food ahead of time so I will not get so hungry then crash and burn.

Good Afternoon! The sun is shining and the humidity is lower, it’s a beautiful day! This morning was my once a month coffee date so needless to say, I need to vacuum this afternoon if I don’t do anything else.

Ceejay, it’s fun to shop when you find something you like and it fits! Enjoy your new tops! I think the cortisone shot is helping my thumb because it is looser in bending than it was. It is good news that your bil’s cancer hasn’t spread.

Zowie has a soccer game later, so will head that direction when Bob gets home. Hope you enjoy a terrific Thursday!

I'm still depressed. Will talk to the doctor next week about taking something for this. I don't like the feeling.
More later

Happy Friday! The sun is shining and a lovely day in my neighborhood. I have dusted the noticeable areas and made a quick trip to the grocery store for oj and Ernie treats, both of which I forgot on my last trip. The varsity soccer girls played first yesterday, and won 4-3. The jv team also won 1-0 but the game was called because it was getting dark and the field has no lights. Zowie played part of both halves; she said the bugs were biting when sitting on the bench. Ian played football there in middle school and we both remembered the “no lights” when we got there. This is where the high school football games are played in the university dome. Anyhow, our running for the week is done! Bob’s group is singing in church Sunday so will have to iron church clothes sometime. Not much else going on today and I like it like that!

Ceejay, I hope you feel better soon? I can understand depression is not fun.

It is Homecoming here and at Maddy’s school this weekend, fun times for the kids. Hope you all enjoy a fun Friday!

Think my depression is coming from being overwhelmed with every thing. I do have time to myself though which helps a bunch.
I went to weigh in this morning and I truly believe this is where I need to be. I look up depression and a lot of the herbal and vitamins and minerals are in their plan. I'm going to add the b complex vitamins to this.
I've also gotten into a rut and need a break. I've figured out a time line to where I can take a trip to Arkansas. Think I need to get away from the hum drum of things. I can stay with my friend and a cousin if need be.

Good Afternoon! The sun is shining and looks like it might stay out this time. It was dark and gloomy this morning and looked like rain but no raindrops fell. I’ve done some laundry, put clean sheets on the bed, and made spaghetti for lunch. Then I sat down to wait for the dryer and took a short nap. Ian’s game was too far away (5 1/2 hours) for us to go last night so we watched it live streamed. That leaves a lot to be deisired but we got to see him and he had another awesome quarterback sack! There was no sound which frustrated Bob on the ref calls. They lost but it wasn’t a conference game so won’t hurt their record. SD is going to restructure their sports competition because smaller schools are combining and becoming larger. For us it means further travel to games probably.

Ceejay, a trip to Arkansas sounds like a fun plan! Go for it! I mentioned the game above. I still don’t understand football and think the idea is to “cream the quarterback!”

I need to fold towels in the dryer and get my gift shop bank statements out. Next week is our annual Auxiliary meeting and I have to share my figures with those attending. The meeting is less than an hour and then we have dessert, after a group picture for the newspaper. Enjoy the rest of a super Saturday and the beginning of fall on Monday!

Good morning. Been a crazy few days between getting really sick, the whole water heater thing, a hair appt Friday, I completely forgot to get in here.

It is still pretty warm here and supposed to be upper 90’s when we go. We’re not doing any outside outings so as long as restaurants, hotels, malls are cool, it doesn’t matter. I just want a few days with Jack. It seems to always be something lately. He’s asleep in his chair at the moment and I’m trying out a new caramel corn recipe at the moment. Jack loves the stuff and it’s hard to get good stuff here. I’ll take a container to Nashville if he doesn’t eat it all up before then. The kitchen smells yummy at the moment all brown sugar and butter.

CeeJay: Oh I know you all have to be disappointed about bil. Look on bright side, maybe your nephew is really working hard on his program and doesn’t want distractions. How’s the baby doing?

Jean: If you use your ipad to post, scroll to bottom and click on full site. Then you can read as you post. I have not tried the donuts so beware. They looked good but may not be as tasty as they looked. I love donuts but stay away from them.

Well my corn is buzzing.....

Good Evening! It was 51 degrees when I came downstairs this morning. I am NOT ready for it to be cold! The sun came out and it warmed up to 70 so was a beautiful day in my corner of the world. There wasn’t much church money to count so it didn’t take long. Our church will celebrate 125 years next fall. They are asking for ideas on how to celebrate and my comment was that churches didn’t have bands 125 years ago so we don’t need the band to celebrate. Ha ha! The notes said one service and a turkey dinner at noon. We’ll see what will be in the final plans.

“Gma,” hope you are feeling better by now. I do post from my iPad but there is no “full screen” any where. Caramel corn is something I don’t make very often. Sounds really good!

I just finished my annual gift shop report for the hospital auxiliary meeting tomorrow. I need to clear off the kitchen table and put the paperwork away. Hope you have enjoyed a nice day and many more to come!

Good morning! Sitting here eating breakfast getting ready to pull clothes to pack for the trip. It is cool this morning but going to get into high 80’s. We’re going to crank back up into high 90’s later this week and weekend it looks like.

Not going to use this caramel corn recipe again. It used condensed milk and no baking soda, but it wouldn’t crisp up. I have a giant popcorn ball. I should learn not to use new recipes.

My bff is having her foot surgery on Friday. She broke her foot when her dog tripped her. She only weighs about 100 lbs and this dog is huge coon dog. Why she ever got her I’ll never know. It wasn’t for protection as she lives in a quiet subdivision of older folks. It’s barely out of puppy stage and weighs near 110 lbs. She’s gonna be out of work 2 months so I grilled her about her money. She’s going to have to dip into an insurance fund she has for emergencies and house repairs, but she has no choice. At least she has it. We were prepared to try and help her out as much as we could. Her kids can’t help much as they’d be willing to. Her granddaughter is getting married in a week and she’ll have to be in a wheelchair, which she is not happy about.

Jean: At the bottom of the posting page it should either say mobile or full site. Mobile you can’t see posts once to hit your reply page, full site you can still scroll down and read previous posts. I think I’d vote for the church paying for hams and or turkeys and the congregation fill in with potluck. Have a nice dinner, maybe some special music, maybe have congregation bring photos from over the years and do a small slideshow and leave it at that. You don’t want the chance for blowhards to
get up and wax sentimental with long speeches.

Well better hop to it. Have a good day all.

Thanks for telling us about the buttons to make it go to full sight. I sometimes get started and then cant remember what I'm going to say. That's sad about the ball game. It is more fun though when we win.

gma
Have fun on your trip.

I brought brother in law back to Branson Monday after his chemo treatment. This morning I had a doctor's appointment in Springfield and drove back to Branson in a hard rain. Some drivers had pulled to the side of the road. I couldn't see but I kept following the tail lights of the car in front of me. Glad he stayed on the road. We needed the rain.
We're planning on going to the new Paula Dean resturant tonight for dinner. It's going to b e try treat. Brother in law wants to go but may not eat to much but that's okay. He likes to get out when he can.
My doctor is sending me to a hand specialist to have him check things out so we will know what kind of treatment plan to follow. I really do not want surgery. but said that he could give me an injection.
The condo area are getting new sealant on the roads and is causing some inconvience for the home oweners but they will
survive. I'm concerned about getting bil back to the condo from down the hill but they are supposed to have a person with a gator to help get people back up the hill. And it's a steep hill.

Good morning. Clear day again. Was cool overnight but is climbing back up there today. I am going out in an hour or so to get my nails done then back home to work getting packing stuff together. I bought a handbag from Nordstrom online and looks like delivery will be while we’re gone. I hope they’ll chuck it over the gate or hold it until we get back. It’s still in CA so doubt it’ll get here earlier than Friday.

Bought this cute bracelet with reward dollars I had to use up and promptly broke it this morning. It’s an easy fix so I’ll get it after I get home I guess.

CeeJay: Hope you enjoyed your dinner and your bil felt good enough to eat.

Have a good day, everyone

Morning
It is still cloudy this morning with some fog in the area. I'm taking bil back to Springfield to get his pump removed and bring him back to Branson today. I'm loving the cooler fallish like weather.
We enjoyed our dinner at the Paua Dean resturant. It was really good food. Think bil is tuckered out today but enjoyed himself last night. I probably gained 5 pounds! Afraid to get on the scale.
Baby is doing good. Is still learning how to nurse.
My eyes are really tearing and burning this morning. We still have a lot of golden rod and rag weed.
Didn't get my flu shot yesterday. The doctor's office will not be giving them until October 11 and there has already been some cases of the flu reported. I'm going to Walgreen's to get mine before then.

gma

Talking

Good Evening! It’s been a couple of busy days at our house. I worked the gift shop yesterday, today I fixed food for my friend who had a hip replaced Monday and came home on Tuesday. Bob and his office mentee are moving to a new office on Saturday so he has been been packing. His tractors they use for harvest needed some repairs and the farmer’s combine quit working so Bob has been trying to help him try to figure out the problem. I went to a wine and chocolate Pampered Chef party tonight. That stuff is major expensive but the food was fun! Tomorrow night is the football game; it was 41 degrees this morning so I’m hoping for warmer weather tomorrow. Otherwise it has been “the usual” around here.

“Gma,” is the friend having foot surgery the same one you are taking on the cruise? I hope she gets along ok. One of the church members is big on history so has kept newspaper clippings, etc., for years. Her parents were raised in this church so she has a lot of the history all ready. The save-the-date postcard says “one service, a turkey dinner following, and special invited guests.” I asked who the special guest would be and no one seems to know. I’m hoping for no band, bells won’t be playing, and Bob’s group not singing but we’ll see what develops over the next year. I hope you have fun on your get away weekend and have a wonderful time!

Ceejay, I’m glad you enjoyed the Paula Dean restaurant! What did you order? I always enjoyed watching her on tv and thought she got a bum deal when she was cancelled. I imagine anything extra would tire your bil. I am surprised you can get your flu shot at the doctor’s office. It seems like up here all adult shots are given at the pharmacy, there is no choice.

I need to put away dishes I washed by hand and unload the dishwasher. Enjoy your evening!
