Not good weather for flying. Here it has been rainy and misty too. :dust: here with a dose of dust to keeping you going strong through the week. Focus on those 2 lbs for Saturday. You can do it. We can do it. We will!!! :carrot: Tip of the Day from Fitness, Sep 2013. Fat and Sugar are Hijacking Our Brain... Junk food has more fat, sugar, and salt than ever before, and all three can affect the brain in the same way drugs and alcohol do. Food scientists know exactly how to make the french fries in a restaurant more addictive than anything you could make at home. They engineer them to light up the pleasure center in your brain while throwing off your body's "I'm full'' signals, so it's hard to feel satisfied no matter how many you have. But don't quite eating your faves cold turkey. If you try to cut something out completely, you're likely to go overboard if you do cave, because you think, "This is my last chance to eat this, so i had better make it count and go all out." Instead, allow yourself a small serving, and get used the feeling of stopping once it's gone. Another trick: Indulge in activities you enjoy, like Spinning or playing Words with Friends. They have the same pleasure producing effect on brain chemistry as hyper palatable foods, minus the calories. |

30 minute elliptical 2 hour walk Meals Egg omelette with biscuit Banana Spinach, peppers, cheese on panini bread Bean burrito, cheese enchilada Gluten free mini berry muffin I'm back. Had a good trip. Some delays going out due to weather, but all worked out fine. Stayed pretty good on my eating and exercising while gone too. Hope you have been having a good week Renee and Andi. Renee-you have been doing a Good Job sticking to your healthy eating and exercise!! Tip of the Day: Fitness Magazine, June 2010 Diet Downfall You munch nonstop while you work at your computer, watch TV, read...When don't you snack? Keep Your hands Full. If you often eat in front of the TV, you're turned the couch in to your snack spot without even realizing it. Sever the association by keeping your hands busy. i.e. You can paint your nails or knit a scarf. Find a Slim Stand-In. Stock up on snacks with less calories and ones that curb your cravings without dietary damage. Planning and portion control are what separate smart snacking from mindless munching. Fill up on Feeling Good. In a study, people who did yoga were more likely to be mindful eaters, possibly because the workout fosters a mind-body connection that helps you know when you're full. Other studies have linked vigorous exercise to lower levels of ghrelin, the hormone that stimulates your appetite. So when you get a killer craving, pop in a yoga DVD or go for a walk/run. Chances are, the sweat session will hit the spot. |

1 1/2 hrs. morning barn chores 1/2 hr. exercise 1/2 hr. evening barn chores Meals oatmeal with blueberries banana vegetable soup, saltines yogurt salad, sausage, egg and zucchini casserole Corinna, glad you had a good trip and were able to make good food choices. Snow flurries today and turning much colder. I've been noticing a family of skunks coming to my bird feeders during the night. I watched them go under my screen porch this morning. I guess I will need to catch and remove them. They sure are pretty, but I think they are a bit too close to the house. Especially when I need to walk past the bird feeders to get to my car and up to the barns...... Have an awesome Friday! |
Exercise
10 flights of stairs 30 minute walk Afternoon yard work trimming bushes/trees Meals Berry drink Mock fish fillets Clementine Bean burritos, guacamole, tortilla chips Small berry muffin Renee-you have a lot of cold weather and snow headed your way. I hope it doesn't get too bad for you. It got colder today for us, down to freezing. I don't know if we will get any snow. Today we had a guy walking through the neighborhood looking for work. He was looking to make a few dollars to help him pay for his rent, which was overdue. So I hired him to help me trim the bushes in the yard and clean up afterwards. He just lost his job, and was having a bad week. We had seen him once before several months back when he came to pick up something we had put up for sale. He had just moved to the area too and had his car impounded for parking in the wrong spot. He didn't have enough money to pay to get it back. At that time, we gave him some linen, pillows, and blankets to help him start out in his rental apartment, since he didn't have anything. He seems to be a really nice fellow, just having a hard time in life right now. Just hearing his stories about life made me realize just how lucky and fortunate I have been. Growing up, we were poor like that at times, so I can understand sort of how he feels. I need to keep my mind focused on the right things in life. Tip of the Day: Fitness Magazine, June 2010 Think Before You Drink Keep Count. No more than 10% of your total daily calories should come from beverages. If you're eating 1800 calories daily, that's 180 calories, or a glass of orange juice and half a can of soda. Double-check labels first. Some bottles contain two or more servings. Time It Right. Drink most of your high-cal beverages during the day, when you're most active and likely to burn them off. Savor the Flavor. Is a mocha coffee whip calling your name: If you're going for indulge, take the time to enjoy it. Ordering it as part of a meal mean you won't register how many calories it has. Pace Yourself. Whether it's cocktails or soda, have a glass of water between each round. You'll consume fewer calories and stay hydrated at the same time. Milk It. A glass of skim milk-especially good for curing before-bed munchies-ranks just behind water and tea when it comes to R.D.-approved drinks. Also on the list? 100% juices such as pomegranate and cherry, which are rich in antioxidants, but whose whole fruits are not always east to find or eat. |

I'm kind of disappointed as I worked hard and thought I would lose more....oh well at least I didn't gain. Yes, it is colder here, but I don't think we are going to get any snow. Maybe too much food all week. Looks like I have some major work to do this week. Renee-you did great! I am happy for you that you lost a lb this week. That is terrific. Keep at it. I need to stay focused like you. Hope you have a wonderful weekend! Tip of the Day: Fitness Magazine, June 2010 Hit the Bottle A water bottle, that is. The old eight-cups-a-day rule no longer has merit, researchers say, because we get plenty of H2O from other sources, including fruits, vegetables, coffee, and tea. But sipping at least a few glasses of water daily can deliver some serious benefits, including weight loss. "Thirst can masquerade as hunger, so a lot of times we eat when really our bodies just need water. To tell the difference, drink a glass of water and wait 15 minutes. * If your stomach is still grumbling, have a snack. * If your stomach stopped grumbling, you were probably dehydrated. |

I logged part of my meals for the day, but forgot to go back and enter the rest. I had a bit more to eat than a sub. I have entered the rest there now. My exercise is a bit small today for walking. I need to give my foot a break for a while, so it can heal properly from a cut that I have on my heal. I keep walking on it and haven't been giving it the chance to heal. So I need to give it a break for a few days. Will need to find something else in the mean time. We only got a dusting of snow here this morning on the grass. The roads were clear though. The temperatures remain in the mid-30s though. I still have to wear a few layers top/bottom when I go outside. Would you like to plan another get together sometime? Perhaps at the end of February or early March? Perhaps on a Saturday. Just a thought. :) Tip of the Day from Muscle & Fitness hers 20 Minutes The minimum duration of exercise you need to perform 2-3 times per week before heart-health benefits occur. Aerobics, as well as resistance training, help reduce blood pressure, body fat, blood-sugar levels and associated heart-disease risk. Both resistance and endurance training have been shown to increase muscle-building hormones within the blood in women. Weight training also improves resting metabolic rate and body fat utilization, making weight loss easier. In patients with established heart disease or chronic heart failure, resistance exercise has been associated with improved outcomes. |

Perhaps with another big snowfall they will come back. How has your new exercise videos been working out for you? Have you noticed any difference in your flexibility or your body tone? I didn't have time to exercise tonight. We went out car shopping this evening. Hope to get a second car this weekend. Yes, we haven't got one yet. We put off looking for a while, but my car needs some work, so it would be good to have a second car in the mean time instead of getting a rental. Tip of the Day from Muscle & Fitness hers, March 2005 82-Percentage by which you reduce your risk of a heart attack when you maintain a healthy diet, exercise, and don't smoke. 70-The average age for a woman to have her first heart attack. 42-Percentage of women who die the first year after having a heart attack compared to a 24% mortality rate for men. |

Tip of the Day from Self magazine, Feb 2014 B Happy (B12) It's frigid, and summer is tragically far away. Before the winter blues get you, hear this: Consuming foods high in vitamin B12 could keep you cheerful. New research in BMC psychiatry shows low levels of B12 are associated with depressive symptoms like loss of appetite and sleep, and low mood. One way to hit your daily dose, eat 8 ounces of yogurt and a slice of Swiss cheese, and believe you'll feel warm sand between your toes again. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ec9qn4Xhhi...n-emoticon.png |

Hopefully, tomorrow I will be back to normal. Hope you have a terrific Tuesday. Tip of the Day from Savoy-Giant magazine, Jan 2017 Advice for making it easier to eat well. Don't skip meals. Some people think skipping meals will mean lower calorie intake throughout the day. But skipping only makes you more likely to snack and overeat at the next meal. Eat only your favorites. When helping yourself to starchy foods, don't load up on a little of everything which may end up being a lot. Instead, select only the few that are you absolute favorites. Make just a few changes. Some people get so hung up on changing everything about their diet in the New Year that they end up failing quickly and getting discouraged. This year pick just one thing to work on (for example, three servings of veggies a day). And once you've mastered it, pick a second goal. |

Tip of the Day from Savoy-Giant magazine, Jan 2017 Mindful Eating 101 Portion Control Use a smaller plate. Fill half with fruits and veggies. A quarter with carbohydrates (the gains should be mostly whole grains). The rest should be lean protein. Limit Sugar Avoid beverages like soda, juice, and sweetened coffee drinks or teas. With processed foods, choose those lower in added sugar. Limit sweet treats to special occasions. Pay Attention Eat slowly and pay attention to what you eat. Hydrate and eat meals at a table, not in the car or in front of your phone, computer, or television. |
