Good morning to you all. I have to take the SUV to the Geico place at 10 AM and pick up the rental car. They do everything right in one place so it is very easy. I just have to remember to get things out of it we will need like our sunglasses, my handicap tag, garage door opener, etc. I am going to just take a grocery bag and drop everything into it and then put them in the rental car. We can pick any kind of car we want as we have up to $1500 that we can use. Hopefully it won't take more than a couple weeks to fix so I am getting a premium car so we can have a bit more room. I checked out pricing at Enterprise and we would be well under our top amount. We will have to go back over there after work and give them Jack's driver's license info so he can drive it back and forth to work. I couldn't keep his license this morning because he has to have it to drive the city vehicles.
I got the downstairs all cleaned except dusting, which I will do tomorrow then I have the dr appointment on Thursday so will do the upstairs again on Friday.
Good news for my girlfriend. They met with the social worker yesterday and picked out some rehab choices so he is definitely going as soon as they can find a bed for him. I think she is very relieved for several reasons. I know she wants to be able to get back to work so their finances improve.
Jean: Sounds like you once again have a busy week. Glad you were able to get the tickets. Can you fly Southwest or do you have to fly the more expensive airlines? I have a couple recipes written in my mother's handwriting and one written on a letter to me in my grandmother's handwriting. It was sent to me way back when Jack was in the Navy and we lived in California I think. She had this little 3 ring notebook she kept recipes in and I don't know what happened to it when she died. I thought my younger sister got it, but she says she doesn't have it. I was furious when my grandpa died as they auctioned off everything including personal photos of family that should have gone to all of us. I could care less about the money, but there were photos of me when I was a new born with my parents and grandparents and sister and lots of other mementos we would have liked to have had.
Good Afternoon! The sun is shining, it's a bit warmer, and very, very windy in my corner of the world. I've been working on my annual report for the hospital auxiliary meeting on Thursday. I should do it by month and every year I think I will do that, but never do. Ian has a football game this afternoon, and I'm kind of hoping the wind will blow up a rain out. No rain in the forecast though.
Maggie, it sounds like you have the rest of the month all planned. Will you stay in Texas for awhile or hit the road after the guys get back from Kansas? I hope Will gets a good report in Houston. The hummingbirds are still coming!
"Gma," what kind of rental car did you choose? It's always a challenge to learn what buttons do what in a different car. I didn't realize the rentals don't have the manuals in them. I suppose they get stolen. We have always flown from Omaha to Phoenix on United. Evidently that hub has changed because all flights are going to Denver (or Houston/Dallas) and connecting in either Seattle or San Francisco. Our friends are flying American, the kids are all on United flights but not together this time, and we are flying United and Alaska. Denver makes me a little nervous, but the Texas flights were all leaving mid-afternoon. We have the cheapest tickets but the longest trip time going over. Our friends thought they were leaving from FL but ended up leaving from Omaha, only a couple hours ahead of us. Beth is also leaving from Omaha and Jason from Sioux Falls.
I need to fold a load of towels, change clothes, and finish my report. Hope you all enjoy the rest of your day!
Good morning to you all. I spent all morning at the Geico place getting things arranged and waiting for the rental car guy to show up. It did get funny at one point. We are allowed a certain amount and I had asked the gal doing the paperwork about how long would the repair be and she said only a couple days so I figured what the heck. I told the rental guy my husband is tall and I am wide so I need something roomy! Well he did provide what I asked, this huge Suburban, but I couldn't get into the darn thing. I had to step up on the running board and then I couldn't bend my bad knee back far enough to get into the seat. I tried a good 5 minutes and finally gave up and told him he would have to get me something else. He brought me a mini van, which was fine. Our car is supposed to be ready tomorrow.
Things took a turn for the worse with my friend. After guaranteeing that he would go to a rehab center, Medicare refused to pay for it and since the rehab centers want 30 days upfront, his supplemental said no too. It had to do with what his hospital stay was listed as, which was observation not clinical. I don't see how major surgery is considered observation, but there you go. So he has to go home and they have home therapy set up and nursing visits and someone to come in and bathe him. She lives in an itty bitty house so I don't know how in the heck he is going to be able to be taken care of. Her hallways are so narrow you can't get a wheelchair down it to take him to the bathroom. It is going to be a mess for sure and now she can't go back to work. I ask her how much money she needed as she said she was going to try and borrow money to cover the bills her paychecks would have paid. I am waiting for her to let me know. We can't cover a huge amount, but we can help her out. She is just so dispirited and worried because he is a very stubborn man who doesn't listen and they are taking him off a narcotic he has been on for 10 years because he is highly addicted. It is going to be a real mess I am afraid and I hate that I live so far away.
Jean: Wow, you have flights all over the place. Too bad you can't all fly together, but sometimes that how it goes to get the best prices. We ended up with a Dodge Grand Caravan. It is ok, but the driver side seat belt won't extend fully like the passenger side so it is a very tight fit to get me into the driver side seat belt. I too, but it is none too comfortable. I have a dr appointment tomorrow so I have to keep the van.
Everyone have a good middle of the week. I am off to fold laundry and dust.
