Hello to aLL my Sisters :smug:
Annie  I read your post last night during DWTS & I was too emotional to post. I am humbled that U have shared such a 'personal important' part of yourself w us. We ARE a special part of your family, because we will Not, judge each other for our human errors. If you ever stop posting here, we will all drive to your job & sit outside your door & wait to see your beautiful face speak to us! I wish I could give U a hug & look into your eyes right now & assure that you have 40 more years to mess-up something else in your life, because the alcohol is like a pot-hole & you can steer/drive around it, U won't drive through it & mess-up your life anymore. I Luv U my little sister. Which Fitbit did U get, the Charge or Charge HR heart rate & what color? Michelle, Hey it was me that asked the question, not Laura. I also get cravings, but after learning that when our bodies r deficient in protein we give into our cravings, I began eating protein @ every meal & adding fiber when possible. My healthy sugar substitute is to: spread peanut butter (a protein) on a split whole grain English muffin & sprinkle 1 serving size of chocolate chips on it & leave it open faced & microwave it on low. My other sugar fix is to mix 1 T. chocolate frosting w 1 t. peanut butter or vise/versa & spread it on a whole grain English muffin. For my salty craving: I eat potato chips measuring 2 serving sizes in a bowl & then dip them into nonfat plain yogurt. I won't let myself get out of my Honda & go into a store for a snack, but I will use McD's drive thru & get their delicious chocolate chip cookie 3-pack w a ice tea or a Dr. Pepper for my weekly shopping treat. I'm sooo proud of U for being active doing a marathon & the k-runs. We aLL wish that we could b like U :trampo: Happy, I tried smoking cigarettes when I was 20 yr old & upset w my ex-h after he yelled @ me & I took 4 out of his pack. I lit 1 up in the back yard & choked on the smoke. Then when I was driving home from shopping & saw that he didn't refill our gas tank, I got angry & I tried to light a ciggy w the ciggy lighter in the car & I swerved & a policeman pulled me over. He asked why did I swerve, well Jesus said don't lie so I told him why & it was my 2nd time trying to smoke & feel happy because I was told that's what ciggy's do. He asked for my other 2 ciggy's in my purse & he snapped them in his hand & stepped on them. He was my age then & he told me to go home & do something else & b happy. I never tried smoking again after that, but through the yrs @ different parties when I've been w both of my Dh's, there was always somebody w a doobie asking if I wanted a 'hit' & I was so naïve that I always said "go hit yourself" until Dh said what it does for his cancer. But no thanks, all ciggy's stink & the doobie smells like a baby skunk & I don't want to choke on the smoke again or have stinky fingers, hair or clothes. Legal marijuana for sick ppl that don't have to smoke it would b ok, but I feel that smoking is just stinky like ragweed. Susie, I still have the pic U sent me w the football players ;) Geez I never had the time to b a party girl. I always had a boyfriend until the 4th date when they realized I was serious about Not having sex until I got married & then the guys dropped me, but I had many really fun dates. I read in the Bible when I was young about sex & I had the fear that God would have it in my Chapter & I just wanted to b able to b in Heaven someday, most of my high school friends were not virgins. So I waited & I did 'it' on both my wedding nights. I drank mixed drinks after marriage & on the 2nd I catch a buzz & #4 I'm sleepy so I stop drinking & snack instead@ #4. Now if I drink, I make sure to have food prior & lots of ice in it. My doctors said that I can have alcohol but wait 3 hrs. after taking any Rx. I had a glass of Chardonnay @ the wedding reception & a few weekly in the summer, not many in the winter. Will it b better for your knee on your new Treadmill Desk if U wear a knee brace? I envy U working (paycheck) :D while being active. If anyone ever wants to phone chat, pm me & I'll give U my phone #. I sure wish 'real life' was like the old time TV shows where life was easy-breezy & w/o any big problems & within half a hour, everything was normal & happy again. Tomorrow is a new day & a new month beginning on Thursday, I hope it's a Great Beginning for each of us :luck2you: Annie, Nice title for October! |
Good Morning All....
Stopped by sissy's house to see the boys. They were as cute as usual. I took them each a huge chocolate chip cookie, stayed while they ate it, then had to leave for my nail appointment. Sis said, gee thanks mom, give them sugar then leave. I laughed all the way out to my car. Nanna's can do that you know.bah haha Today is DHs birthday. 53 years young. Just a baby. I got him his inverter table and tonight I am giving him a few dvds he has been wanting and taking him out to dinner. He has yet to decide where he wants to eat. I baked him a German chocolate cake over the weekend that was his cake treat. DEE...thank you so much for your love and support. Right now at the early stages of my new life wo alcohol, it means so much to have you and all the chicks on board with me. You all are a very bright spot to my day. Fitbit...I got the Charge HR. I don't use the HR much as mostly I am walking for exercise and doing stairs several times a day. Well at least the stairs twice a day. On the way into to work 5 flights up and on the way home 5 flights down. I did get in an extra 2 flights yesterday. I am still liking the FB-CHR. I like the Voice too much so I only watch DWTS on commercial breaks..wish they were not on at the same time. TERRA...Red Lobster is one of DHs favs, well mine also. He will probably pick that for his birthday dinner tonight. Either that or Olive Garden. CHELLE...I am glad you are trying to grip your demons now, cause I will tell you it is much harder later in the years post op. I wish I had someone telling me these things when I was going through it in the beginning and actually did what they suggested. Take advantage of this time. Don't delay as you will NEVER have this opportunity again to use the best time of your new tool. LAURA...did you successfully make it through the conference? I usually enjoy a conference for about a half day then it all sounds like blah, blah, blah, and I am off thinking of things I need to get done at the office or things I would rather be doing at home. Hello to all you fine ladies. Tomorrow starts a new month of excitement, WL, exercise and demons. HAPPY...you are so good at starting the new threads and linking them back and forth, I am giving you that honor. Well, because I don't know how to either. hahahaha. HUGS ALL... Love and hugs to all... |
Good morning ladies,
I visited my grown nephew in the hospital yesterday. He is my eldest sister's son. He's in his mid 30s, he is mentally challenged...and also physically disabled. Anyway, he'll be ok, I hope. He's got a bowel obstruction and was admitted Sunday night with bad cramps and a fever. They also had to catheterize him as he was unable to urinate. They've got him on IVs because if he drinks anything, it makes the cramping worse. They're hoping it will pass on its own so they don't have to go in with a procedure...sorry if this is TMI. I told him that when he gets out of the hospital he has to do a better job of staying hydrated and sodas DO NOT COUNT. I explained that if I can drink over 100 ounces of water per day with my little tummy, so can he. Speaking of my little tummy, I've started back on the bariatric way of eating....restricting carbs and little to no sugar. I'm also weaning myself off of caffeine as one of the bariatric medical professionals explained to our support group that regularly drinking caffeine can cause ulcers in the little stomach pouch. I've fallen off the wagon in terms of exercise. I just haven't had the energy on Monday or yesterday. I'm planning to get to the gym tonight before my MRI. Gym, shower, dinner with K to thank her for driving me to the MRI, then the MRI, pick up Santa and home. I normally wouldn't need a driver to take me to an MRI, but the doctor suggested that I arrange for a driver as she'd like me to take 1-2 pain pills so that I could keep my arm/shoulder immobilized for 30-40 minutes in probably an awkward position so that they can get good pictures of what's going on with my shoulder. ========================== Annie - Wishing C a very happy birthday! I'm just 21 days older than him. :) Glad you got to see your DD and the g-sons yesterday. Too funny about loading the boys up with sugar and then leaving. LOL I am nearing my surgi-versary! Can you believe it? On November 19th it'll be one year since my surgery. I feel like I've squandered the past 6 months by allowing my sugar addiction to control me. Pisses me off. I'm so mad at myself. I know it gets harder to lose weight after 1 year out. ****, it's hard enough now. And I want to lose 30-40 more pounds. I just gotta log EVERYTHING I eat EVERY day. I'm probably going to get a FitBit. BTW, I like your idea for the October thread title. Dee - Thanks for the suggestions on healthier sweet alternatives. I know that it's a good idea to match carbs/sugars with proteins so that I don't get insulin spikes. I don't often have salty cravings...and when I do, a couple pieces of beef or turkey jerky help me get through that. I used to smoke too, but quit in 1990 when I met my now ex-DH and he said he wouldn't date a smoker...so that was one of the best things he ever did for me. When I did smoke, I always had bronchitis....hmmm, imagine that....an asthmatic who smokes having chronic lung ailments. Yes, I know...I was young and stupid. LOL Terra - Regarding the calorie count for Chicken Enchiladas...you can use MyFitnessPal to at least get an idea. Logging food is a pain in the rear...I know....and I don't do it as often as I need to, but I'm working on changing that. At least if you honestly track your food, there is less chance for surprises when you step on the scale. I've got to sign off for now...lots of work to get done. Love and hugs to all, |
Sorry - too busy to post and I don't want to just talk about me. I will get the new thread set up tomorrow.
|
Annie ~ Yeah Red Lobster is one of my favorites too for a sit down place. I love the new title for next month's thread
Michelle ~ Yeah I first started on my weight loss journey I had a hard time getting in the habit of logging my food but now after a year of doing it every day I dont have hard time anymore. I'm sure you'll get in the habit of logging your food. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Its 10:36 a.m. right now. I woke up at 6:50 a.m. I should of got up way earlier cause my back was hurting when I got up but its not hurting anymore so thats good. I'm looking forward to Music and Movement group tomorrow, I think its gonna be pretty fun. Its from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. The group will be every Thursday. I'm also looking froward to going to Red Lobster with my friend on Sat. I love Red Lobster's Endless Shrimp. |
Hi Everyone. Quick check-in before I go heat up my lunch.
Annie: Happy Birthday to C. My DH loves chocolate german cake too! I love any cake! :dizzy: I had to laugh when I read about you taking the cookies to the boys and then leaving after they ate it. I do very similar things with my nephews. I told my brother then he adopted them that I was going to spoil them rotten and he couldn't do a thing about it and I am holding up my end of the bargain. ;) That would be really cool if you did get a couple of those treadesks at work. Does your work have any kind of incentive plan tied to the health care? If we use the tread desk so many hours in a year then we get a credit toward our health care premiums each year. Michelle: Good for you for getting back to the bariatric way of eating. You will get back to the exercise...do one thing first and add the other when it is time. Also, maybe start back with the exercise as just a walk for 10, 20, 30 minutes. It will get you going again. Have you heard of a site called bariatric eating? I saw that on someone's FB post and checked it out. Great idea for those of us who didn't have bariatric surgery but looking for ideas to help control sugar. Terra: it is cool here in Ohio today. Fall has arrived. I like 70 degree weather too! What is Discovery Class? Dee: Do you still have my cell #? Hi to Ceejay, Happy and Shad! I better go eat before my lunch hour is over. I did the tread-desk this morning as I had a webex meeting I needed to join and listen to the content. I thought..might as well walk and it was free. I'm signed up for it for my normal time this afternoon. I am going to try and get there and maybe skip the bike at home tonight and get some other things done in the house. Happy: Thanks for setting up the thread tomorrow and Annie--I love the title. |
Morning all. Back at work and catching up, though I was checking e-mails during the conference.
Michelle – Congrats on completing the 10k and making good time for yourself. Wow, you have a lot of runs planned for October!!! Good for you. Running has never been anything I wanted to do, though I can see how it would be more motivating/rewarding than gym time to a lot of people. Good luck with your interview today!! The pep rally this weekend sounds like it’ll be fun for you. :cheer2: :cheer3: Happy – I hope you’re having a more relaxing week!! Sounds like you had a lovely ATV ride. Re pet adoption, I wish more people understood that it’s not just a way to get a free pet, or that it isn’t necessarily cheaper than the cost of a pet shop pet. Like you said, there are a lot of expenses involved. And people who are seeking cheap pet ownership are the ones who shouldn’t bother. Susie – It’s great that your company has the treadmill desks. It’s certainly good to keep moving. I tend to stay put at my desk when I should really make an effort to get up and move more. I will try to remember to take a photo of the crazy sweater. :D Terra – Yum, enchiladas. Maybe you need to post the recipe for your mom’s, hint hint. ;) Yeh, I can’t believe how quickly September went!! You have a busy rest of the week. How are you liking the Discovery Group? Annie – I hope everything’s okay at work with the upper management visiting. I like your October title suggestion!!! Happy b-day to C! Enjoy dinner, wherever you end up going. Heehee, too funny you get the kiddies all hopped up on sugar and then leave. :D Yes, I survived the conference. But I agree with you – I start out fine for a session or two, and then I get burnt out and start checking my phone or making to-do lists, LOL…and I’m not the only one! I wonder how the speaker feels talking to a group where at one time or another half the people are looking down at their cell phones??? Dee – Interesting story of how you *didn’t* take up smoking. :) Good for that police officer – I hope you offer up a “thank you” to him every once in a while, wherever he might be. Hi Shad!!! In one of my conference sessions yesterday, someone asked if any other countries are becoming as litigious as the US, and the speaker responded with “Australia”. Bleh. -- So I did the survey for the conference already. Some speakers better than others, as usual. One that wasn’t so engaging actually does some teaching, and I feel sorry for his students. Speaking of students – we did have a group of students attending the conference and I’m wondering how they got through some of the sessions – some of that material goes over my head. Of course their brains are young and fresh, so I suppose they did just fine. :D I have a lunchtime presentation to attend, so I’ll run out to grab lunch to bring with me, or I might just run out afterwards and bring something back to eat at my desk. I have my quarter-end work to do this wee, which shouldn’t take too long. My Pilates class on Monday night was good, except we did some work using the core bar, which I’m not a fan of. Yesterday I felt the fatigue in my forearms from holding the bar, so it also worked them in addition to my core. I got home a bit earlier than usual yesterday because of the conference and I walked the dog with bf. We went out for dinner (35 cent wings, whoopee). Back at home I folded a load of my laundry that had been sitting in the dryer for a day and then sitting in a basket for a day. Good thing it was whites – socks, undies and t-shirts that I don’t wear in public. Not too distressed about the wrinkles. While folding, I also decided that wearing wrinkled clothing could distract from wrinkles on the person, LOL. I think 1.5 days of the conference left me a bit loopy. Last night I finally got around to trying steel cut oats cooked overnight in the little dipper, aka baby crockpot. They cooked fine, but I wrecked them this morning with too much cinnamon and brown sugar. I doubt I’ll ever bother cooking them this way again after I realized that cleaning that little crockpot would be a PITA (the crockery lining is NOT removable). I’d rather cook 4 servings in one batch on the stovetop over the weekend and nuke a serving at a time in the morning before work than clean that little thing 4 times. :chef: Okay, enough rambling. Off to post. TTFN ladies. |
Michelle - I hope the pain pills help with the MRI. Keeping still that long will be tough.
Terra - Enjoy the Music and Movement group tomorrow. Is it enough to count as exercise?? :D Susie - Oh, nice to get a credit on your healthcare premiums for using the tread-desk. Win-win! Hi Ceejay. How's your week going? I hope your foot pain has eased up. |
Susie ~ Discovery Group is a group where you can learn everything you need to know about going back to work or going to work for the 1st time. It gives you all the tools to do so.
Laura ~ I'm liking the Discovery Group, I've learned alot. Yes I do think the Music and Movement group will count for exercise on Thursday's. Here's my mom's..... Chicken Enchilada Recipe Ingredients: 2 cans of cream of chicken 1 TBSP. Butter 1 Tea.spoon Garlic Power 1 Cup Sour Cream 2 Cups Shredded Cheese 12 Flour Tortilla's 12" 1/2 Cup Milk 3 Cups Chicken Directions: Preheat Oven 350. Grease Pan. In a sauce pan on med. heat melt butter, Add garlic power, Stir in cream of chicken & sour cream. Mix Well. Reserve 3/4 cup of the sauce. Add the chicken and 1 cup of cheese. Fill each tortilla with the chicken mixture and roll up. Place seam side down. In the reserve 3/4 cup of sauce add the milk. Spoon Mixture over rolled tortilla's and top with remaining cheese and bake for 30 to 35 mins. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Woke up at 1:00 a.m. having to go to the bathroom, I usually have a hard time going back to sleep after I have to get up to go to the bathroom. Its now 3:34 a.m. I have cooking class today from 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. and then I have Music and Movement group from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. I'm looking forward to Music and Movement group today. I think its gonna be alot of fun. I cant wait until tomorrow (Friday) I love going shopping!!!!! I also cant wait until Sat. I love Red Lobster and I love having lunch with my friend Wilma. She really appreciates my friendship with her cause she says most people my age dont hang out with people her age but I dont mind. She's a nice person. I hope everyone has a great Thursday. Take Care Everybody. |
