Mel - You definitely didn't miss my birthday - it's next month, LOL. But it is on the 5th, so you've got the date right. And I know it'll be wonderful because I'm taking vacation that day!! :D Thanks for my early birthday wishes and virtual cake!!!
|
Laura - did I miss your birthday. So sorry. Hope it was a good day.
:hb::hb::hb::hb::hb::hb::hb::hb::hb: |
Laura - Happy Birthday!! I hope you have a great birthday, birthday week/weekend, birthday month and year!
|
Hey Girls....the service was lovely...daddy looked so wonderful, since he passed with just his last breath and not via heart attack, stroke, etc. he was not swollen. No pain in is face. He even look very happy and rested. Altho sad, it was peaceful. I will miss him so very much however knowing he is in heaven with momma and his 3 younger brothers makes it better. I just know they are all yucking it up, telling stories and playing cards. The best part...he is definitely watching over all of us along with momma and that brings peace. Wednesday the 12th will be a tough birthday for me, my first without my dad. However, we are all going to the Chinese buffet as dad had planned for he and I to celebrate. I will try not to dwell on this much longer and bore you with my sadness. I am sure you all are very tired of hearing about it. I am just too emotional. Thank you my dear sisters for ALWAYs being here for me. I love you...Annie

Sleep is overrated. As dad always said, there will be time after we die for sleeping....lol.

Morning
Nothing new to report. |
Morning all. More rain coming our way today. In fact I had bf drive me to the train station this morning because I was running late and it was already raining. Bf just managed to get the lawn mowed yesterday, but he did get some light rain during part of the job. This morning our neighbor was out there in the rain mowing the lawn. Ugh. He must have taken the day off work today - sure hope he has something more pressing and/or fun on the agenda in addition to mowing the lawn in the rain. :p Bf teases him all the time about how miserable he looks when he's mowing, lol. Most people would just look focused/concentrating when they're mowing, but J. just has this look of pure misery on his face. C'mon, it's not that bad...but I'm glad I don't have to do it. :D
Annie - Sounds like yesterday was something of a comfort to you?? I hope so. Yeh, there will be a lot of milestones coming up that will heighten the loss of your dad, but you're strong and will get through them. Nice you'll go on with the b-day buffet plan, it'll be good for you and the family to celebrate him. And then there's Father's Day... Hang in there, we're here for you!! Happy - You're a good person to volunteer at that place. Me, I don't think I could put up with those idiots and their petty BS. What makes them think this shop is substantially different than other retail enterprises?? No sales or markdowns???!!! Anyway, I'm glad they're not all idiots and that you've met some nice people and that you enjoy the type of work you're doing. Just keep remembering the charitable purpose of the place and hopefully that'll get you through some of the trying moments. :) Re Jazzercise, 45 min. is cardio - the dance routines. 15 min is strength, and that's what we bring the weights for. Re the park district's recplex, I'm not signed up right now for a punchcard nor any separately offered/paid classes (which is what the kettlebell class was). We'll see how just Jazzercise classes go for now. Michelle - Scary about the complication with the birth!!! I'm so glad all went well and you must all be so very thankful!!!! I don't know much of anything about Curves, but it sounds like a circuit setting - is that right? I have trouble envisioning how they work Zumba into that...let us know if you go there for a trial class. Thanks for my :kickbutt: I needed it! Still struggling a bit, but not totally off-course. Some of the new habits are still sticking. Scale is down a bit from the last couple days. Ceejay - I'm sure they do the inspections on your shift because your the most experienced and knowledgeable one there. Nice countdown!!! Did you download one of those online countdown clocks so you can see it all the time?? So it's your weekend - have a great weekend!!! :) === Nothing much going on here. This gloomy weather is a downer. Oh well, better than having a drought. They've announced they're offering ww at work again. If they get 20 people to sign up it'll be offered at the same rate as before. And they'll again reimburse us 50% of that if we attend 14 of 17 meetings. Wonder when I get the 50% for this session?? I think the current session ends next week or the following week. Dug up and cleaned off my nice exercise mat last night. It was in the back of the closet and had picked up a good amount of dog hair and dust. Dog hair finds its way everwhere!! I also brought out my wheelie backpack. Last time I used it was for Jazzercise classes because I was bringing a couple different sets of dumbbells to class. Tonight I'm just bringing my 5's and hopefully that suffices. My co-worker and I just agreed we were both going to skip an industry function that we'd previously registered for this afternoon. I've decided I'm not interested enough in the topic to bother and my co-worker wants to be able to finish some projects and take tomorrow off work. Okay, back to work. |
Morning all,
Happy un-birthday Laura ;) Annie - glad that Dad looked peaceful at rest. Take all the time you need to accept and move on. I understand how you feel - I too have a hard time giving up on things, especially the important things. I will listen to you now and you can lend back the shoulder when I lose my beloved Mom  The classmate I met at the thrift shop told me that she's been widowed twice. She was recently married for a third time - said she did not want to remarry but new hubby insisted. She told him - don't you DARE go dying ahead of me, I can't take any more. I can only imagine... we did not get to discuss the details of her prior relationships so I don't know what happened but it had to be awful. Ceejay - you need one of those big countdown aps / clocks on your computer that counts down the days to retirement  2 years will go by in a flash - that I promise. It's been a little over 2 years since we bought this house and I swear it passed in the blink of an eye. Locals said we will not be considered a native here until we pass our 10th winter  I would say that 2 years kicks into gear starting to do everything you need to plan for the big day including starting to cull out the stuff you won't want to take with you, get very tight with your spending money and start thinking about things like budget, insurance options and the like. Will make for a much easier transition. It rained like the dickens yesterday. We watched Lake Happy build up on the driveway. I took my yet to be potted plants out of the greenhouse to give them a good drink of water and took them back in last night because I wasn't sure how low the temps would dip. Got soaked both times. I opted not to go out yesterday so I finished the book I was reading, made a nice dinner and emptied out some junk emails from my accounts. Today I have errands to run and it appears that Mr. Washmore has risen up overnight and is about to peak  |
Hit the enter key too soon and my post posted before I was quite done. Guess it's nature's way of telling me to get off the computer :D At least I didn't lose it.
Seems like a quiet day for all the ladies. Hope you have a nice one. Later chicks... |
I see Laura and I were typing over each other again. Thanks for the kind words - the one thing that brings everyone together at the thrift shop is the work for the Humane Society. For that reason, a lot of people do what I do - come in, do their part and ignore the drama. I am slowly learning not to try and "fix" things or make them better than when I first encountered them. This is quite difficult because as a former manager and a people pleaser (yes, you might find that hard to believe as cranky as I can be sometimes) - it's my nature to try and do something if there is an issue. I used to think that putting blinders on was equivalent to copping out - .ie if you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem. I should write a book on life's hard lessons- Chapter 1 - You're better off keeping to yourself, Chapter 2 - One Day You Will Wake Up Old and it will take some time before you realize that you have fallen out of the circle of "those who are cool" and moved into the section of "geez what a pompous windbag", Chapter 3 - You Know You Are Old when you disagree with just about everything people 10 years and younger than you do
Anyhow I sure did get off topic. That's nice that the company underwrites part of the WW cost. I think that's money well spent on their part for encouraging healthy living. The only thing - and I'm not sure if they will do this - but the rebate might be considered taxable income to you so you are in effect actually getting less than 50 percent back. They did the same at my company - there were healthy living incentives and if you followed them you got a small amount rebated on your insurance premium. Was shocked to see they included that on the paycheck each quarter. But they said the IRS rules dictated that was income (by a broad stretch of the term). Just sayin... however I know how much the WW at Work programs cost so even a 40 percent return is welcome money. |
Good morning ladies!
Yesterday after work, I checked out Curves. They had me sit through a video touting the benefits of their 3 pronged approach (exercise, diet plan and motivation). At the end of the video, a price of $299 flashed on the screen for a second or two. Apparently it's $299 for 90 days (and it doesn't come with pre-packaged food just a personalized meal plan). Then the "trainer" showed me the circuit. A couple things I don't like: (1) the "cardio pads" which are every other station...you do your own cardio while others are on the strength-training machines; (2) the strength training machines that you're on for 30 seconds are not adjustable to your height and the resistance is hydraulic...so not adjustable at all. So, overall I'm not impressed. What did impress me was that I could do most of the strength training machines without hurting my back. :) They do offer Zumba classes on Monday evenings and Saturday and Sunday mornings, and they cost extra. I got a free one-week pass out of the deal. I'm not going to get there until Saturday though. Today, I'm running on empty in terms of energy as I didn't fall asleep until nearly midnight last night...and I did not enjoy the alarm going off at 5:30 this morning. And tomorrow night I have a date with the same guy...we're going to a baseball game. I don't know if this is going to go anywhere, but it's nice to get out. On Saturday morning, I'll do the Zumba class, and then I'm getting together with friends. Back to Curves...if it is, in fact, $299 for 3 months, then WW and a gym membership would be a much cheaper deal. ================= Annie - I'm glad you're feeling more at peace. Please, never, ever feel like you're boring us or being too emotional. You can't rush the grieving process. We are here for you, sister. We love you too. You couldn't sleep either? At least you have a reason. We should've called each other. Laura - Crazy about your neighbor mowing in the rain. Glad your bf got the job done without getting too wet. Good for you for getting back on track. That's way cool that your company reimburses you 50% if you attend WW at Work. So cool you have a wheelie backpack to take your stuff to Jazzercise! Happy - So sad about your classmate being widowed twice. I can understand why she said that to her new hubby. I've been divorced twice, and that's why I don't know if I'll ever marry again...don't want to be 3 times divorced. I know, bad attitude. Hard to believe it's been over 2 years since you bought your house. Wow! to Ceejay, Shad and Mel! Much love and many hugs, |
Evening all.
Not a lot to report today really. I've been doing good deeds for people. Taking one to the doctor, one to the vet and cat sitting the DS2's little kitten for the weekend. This has not made me popular with the Miss Puss. Laura - sorry I gave you too much cake for your non birthday. All Mels fault. She is usually pretty much on the ball with all our birthdays. Sounds like your neighbour needs artificial grass if mowing makes him that miserable. Annie - so glad that your service for your dad went off okay. Interesting that he looked happy. My mum was the same. She seemed to have a smile on her face. Happy - interesting about your friend and the three husbands. I too have a friend who has had 2 husbands die on her. I don't know if she is interested in any more. Personally I think I would have given up even thinking about it after the first. Glad to hear that someone else has Mt Washmore. I think mine erupted last week. Maybe some of it blew across to your place Michelle - 299 for 90 days. That's 3.33 per day which is not too bad if you go everyday. But quite frankly it doesn't work that way. You have to have some time off to allow the body to recover. If you don't, you get injuries and muscle pain not to mention chronic tiredness. My house smells of roses - well two varieties of roses anyway. Mr Lincoln and Fragrant Plum. They have the most beautiful scents. By tomorrow they will be joined by Jude the Obscure who will probably out scent the other two. The rose garden is doing quite well considering I haven't given it much attention recently and it is getting a bit overgrown and I need to take out some of the bulbs and cut back the ground cover which is taking over everywhere. Maybe tomorrow I will get to that. So time to watch Alan Titchmarsh's garden program on tv and then bed. I love looking at these beautiful British gardens. Tonight he is showing us Hatfield House - something to do with Queen Elizabeth 1 back in 1594 I think. According to Wikipedia it was built in 1497. Anyway, the garden is very formal and lots of hedges and parterres. Not what I grow in a garden, but it is definitely beautiful - if you like that sort of thing. |
Shad - Good on ya' for doing the good deeds, even if Miss Puss doesn't approve. I love the smell of flowers, especially roses. When I get my own place, my garden will be full of roses, geraniums and many others. I like to watch the garden programs...but I'm not typically a fan of the overly manicured, overly formal types. I'm tackling my laundry today...now that there's only just me..it's not really Mount Washmore anymore. :)
I hope all the chicks east of here are okay. Now that I've moved west, I'm almost never the first one here in the morning. Love and hugs, |
Morning all. TGIF!
Shad - Nice of you to be doing good deeds. :) Is the kitten being kept separate from your cat?? Last year during our big drought there were some stories on the news about people getting their brown lawns sprayed green, and about artificial grasses, which now are available in much more realistic-looking varieties - not just "astroturf". It's heavenly to have nice flower scents in the house. I had a couple vases of peonies from the garden in the house this past week, and I'll cut some more this weekend - the ones that get more shade in our yard are finally blooming. We don't get much sun in our yard, and what we get has the veg garden in it, so I haven't tried to grow roses. A house we pass by when going to the creek has two large very rose bushes in front - very pretty to look at. Not sure if they have any scent though. Michelle - I like seeing elaborate gardens in beautiful settings, but wouldn't it be hilarious to see a very formal garden in front of my modest little ranch home?? :D The price seems a little steep for the Curves program. Is there "live" support available too? I don't think I'd be too keen on the hydraulic machines in re to the type of resistance they provide. (I also don't like using the rubber exercise bands either.) I guess you'll find out more when you do your trial. Happy - Sad about the classmate who's been widowed twice. :( I agree you can get through that drama at the shop by keeping in mind that everyone is there for a good cause, even if some are idiots. And you get more practice trying not to go into "fixer" mode. :D Yeh, we've been made aware that the 50% reimbursement on ww is taxable. That's fine by me, the benefit outweighs the extra tax liability. Ceejay - Did you visit with your cousins yesterday? Hope you had a nice start to your weekend. :) Hi Annie! === Jazzercise was fun yesterday. It was like coming home again - familiar moves and the instructor is still the same crazy person. :) I got a good sweaty workout. And that reminds me that this particular location isn't air conditioned - hope the summer temps don't get too extreme! The Saturday location has AC though. Bf and I watched the hockey game and that was about it for last night. No big plans for this weekend. Jazzercise class on Saturday morning. Otherwise, all my flowering shrubs are done blooming and now I really need to prune them. Not good at pruning, so we'll see what kind of funky shapes I end up with. Good thing the shrubs eventually grow back. Everyone have a wonderful weekend! :flow1: |
Morning all,
Quiet in here today. Is it Sunday and I got crossed on the days? Geez wouldn't that be nice because I'm pulling a double shift tomorrow at the store (and WHY did I agree to that???) Of course, tomorrow is also going to be the nicest weather we've had in a week. Perhaps that will keep people out on the lake and paths and it won't be too busy being by myself in the morning. I did not realize there was so much laundry to be done. DH had to go for a blood test today and apparently had to dig out some old corduroy pants because he had nothing to wear. Hey, I don't wear his pants - how was I to know? Anyway once I started separating clothes from the hamper, I was surprised at how much was in there. Because of the septic system, I generally don't like to do more than 3 loads a day so as not to overload the septic tank. However we have a big septic tank and I have a ultra low water washer so 3 loads of my washer is probably equivalent to 1 load of a regular large washer's output. I have 6 loads of clothes to wash. Have to decide which 3 are the lucky ones to get done today  I also MUST finish my planting today. I will probably have to go outside and work in my netted jacket - the mosquitos are absolutely horrible. Yesterday I went out to run a bunch of errands and was sitting in the driveway with the car window down talking to DH and this swarm was flying into the car. I finally told DH I had to get out of there. Michelle - at $100 a month for Curves - that's a pretty steep price. They have a much lower price ($12.95 a week) advertised online for the exercise, food program and coaching - but it also says that's in specific locations. Since that's a franchise, prices may vary but I think you can do better than that. Not sure what they have out by you but when I lived in Chicago they had built this beautiful wellness center affiliated with the hospital. In addition to a gym they had physical therapy, wellness classes and programs - smoking cessation, weight loss, diabetes, cardiac care, etc. It was a really nice place. Might want to see if they have something like that convenient and affordable to you which would give you more bang for your buck. As for multiple husbands all I noticed is that there's a LOT of women who say one was enough and they are doing just fine on their own  It makes me laugh because these old goats run off and pick up a 20 something they can flash on their arm while she spends all their money and they think they are hot and all that and the women they were with are more often than not, glad to be free of them. Viagra contributed to the downfall of society - no stopping them now. Shad - I can only imagine that Miss Puss is NOT happy to have a younger one in the house with you. Oh the insult. Make sure she does not bury her in the garden! Nice of you to help out with the neighbors. I love the formal gardens too though I've probably never seen a proper British one. However, not having the means for a gardener to keep it alive, I will have to be content with the view of pots from my deck  But how nice to have a seated arbor and mounds of lovely flowers, butterflies and birds to look at. Maybe a Zen garden too with a gently trickling water fountain. They have some beautiful ones at the nursery - looks like a grotto of sorts. I have walked away from here 3 times already - best go get some food in me, flip the first 2 loads of laundry and get outside and finish with those plants. Have a good weekend everyone. |
Laura - glad you enjoyed the exercise class - I think it helps more if the instructor is fun as well as intent on leading the class. No a/c in the room? Hope they have some big stand fans! Thank you for your comment about people all being there for a good cause - even the idiots. I am going to remember that when some people get to be a bit much.
|
Sorry I wasn't here yesterday. Had a good visit with the cousins. I didn't realize how short I was until I was up against them.
I feel the need to get outside and mow my own lawn for a change. |
Busy day today...Lots of programming to do for work...I'll probably be working some this weekend too. Going out tonight on a date with the same guy I've seen a few times - a guy I used to date before I met my ex. We'll either go to a baseball game or a movie (if it's too hot to sit at the baseball game). Tomorrow, I'm going to a workshop in the morning and a get together with friends in the afternoon. Santa will be in day care tomorrow. On Sunday, Santa and I are going on a dog walk fundraiser.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone! Love and hugs, |
Hello Ladies...
Found out that they fired my buddy at work on Thursday. Katie was on "steps" for being late all the time. However she had not been late for 3 months. Since we do not have management on site the way they tell is when you sign on to your computer. She had shut down her computer at 9 am one day due to computer problems and rebooted. They took that as her signing in for the first time that day and late. We all could vouch for her, however they came in and fired her when none of use were in the office except her. Just a reason to let her go I suppose. So work will be depressing on Monday. Sheesh. We are down to just 5 of us left in our department. Just a check list before the next of goes. Anyway... Today was a good day. Spent the day at dad's house clearing out two more closets. My brother and I decided to laugh and yuck it up rather than cry so it went really well.... Got lots of errands to do tomorrow including taking 5 gallon ziplock bags of coins to cash in that was in dad's closet...lol how funny. We are all going out to dinner on it. I am guessing there is about 3-4 hundred dollars in there. Not sleeping much these days, but really what is new. Sassy sleeps in the chair while I watch TV. Laura...thank you for the lovely card...and a bird on the front...how appropriate for dad. Thank you for being so sweet. Love you chickies. |
LAURA.....SORRY I SCREWED UP THE BIRTHDAY:rofl:
THAT IS TOO FUNNY. http://catatonicallyspeaking.files.w...1204077_n1.jpg :cofdate: MORNING CHICKS I AM STILL WORKING TODAY. WE WILL SEE WHAT TOMORROW BRINGS. THE AUDITORS WERE FRIST AND NOW THE ACCOUNTANTS. EVERYONE WANTS TO FINISH AND GO HOME. MOST OF THEM BEGIN THEIR VACATIONS NEXT WEEK. ALL I AM DOING IS RUNNING BACK AND FORTH. I GO FROM ONE SIDE OF THE BUILDING TO THE OTHER. GUESS THEY ARE LAZY THIS YEAR BUT EXTRA CASH IS OK WITH ME. YESTERDAY I HAD TO USE MY 2ND CHAIR AND RECHARGE THE FIRST. I HAVEN'T READ ANYTHING YET. WILL TRY TO CATCH UP LATE TOMORROW OR MONDAY. IN THE MEANTIME STAY WELL AND HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND. SHAD...HOPE YOU GOT THE EMAIL. SEEMS EVERY TIME WE MAKE A DATE I GET BOGGED DOWN. BUT AT LEAST THIS TIME IT'S PAYING. SMALL BEANS BUT BEANS ARE BEANS!! LOL |
Good morning chicks,
Going to be a long day for me - double shift at the store. I did go to bed earlier last night but was restless and would have loved to have slept more this morning but oh well, stoke up on the coffee. I was outside planting yesterday and my cousin decided to stop by. We were looking at my garden. My chives are flowering and I was doing some reading and they said the chive flowers are edible. He said he cuts his off and I popped one in my mouth. It definitely tasted of chive. And long after I swallowed it, the flavor got more and more intense. Feels like I ate the entire patch of chives. :p Brushed my teeth three times last night and still woke up tasting chive. :p :p: :p Don't think I'll be eating any more flowers - just because you can doesn't mean that you should. I did get all but 1 load of towels done with laundry. Got more planting done but about 5pm the mosquitos got so bad I could not stand being outside any more. DH has a yard fogger he says works well but the thing is so chemical potent that I hate to breathe it. Talked to Mom yesterday, think we will bring her up for a visit next month. She would not enjoy the mosquitoes or cooler weather right now. Mel - that's quite a long day for you if you had to swap out chairs. Guess they really had you zipping back and forth! As you say the extra cash will be nice. Don't tire yourself out too badly. Annie - sorry they fired your buddy. Not sure turning on your computer is the most accurate mark of coming in - I guess with no official boss everyone is sort of monitoring themselves then? Sounds like they were looking to make up a reason to get rid of her. Besides losing a friend this will mean more work for everyone left - oh joy! :( Adorable shot of Lil Man on FB today. Michelle - hope you got caught up with work and enjoyed your date. The dog walk fundraiser sounds like fun. Good cause, good exercise, good social opportunity - who could ask for more! Have a good time and raise lots of money. Ceejay - I know what you mean - isn't it kind of sad to realize just how short we are??? I'm not even sure we can get away with being called "petite" any more. Glad you had a nice visit with the cousins. Laura - good luck with the pruning. I was not good at that either - would take tiny snips at things whereas DH just took the cutters and whap. I think you have to have an eye for it. Be careful you don't get cut. Shad - have a good sniff at the rose garden for all of us. Time to hop in the shower and get some breakfast in me. Have a good Saturday everyone. Play hard! |
Missing in action again. *sigh*
Yesterday was long and painful. I had the little guy on his harness and we went outside for a while. He loved it. DS2 and G/f are a little nervous about him going outside since the last cat got lost or was stolen - we think the latter. Anyway, out we went and he loved it. Wasn't so sure about wet feet but he did enjoy himself. Then after a run around and we came back inside he went exploring around the house. When he came back I realised the harness was missing so I went looking for it. Found it on the windowsill in the third bedroom. Went to put it back on so we could go out and work and I must have caught something painful in the clip thingy. He went ballistic and while I was trying to catch him to sort it all out, I got in the way of teeth and claws. My poor little pinky just bled and bled. Finally got him sorted and then had to clean up the finger and then clean up the blood that had splattered up and down walls and over the floor. Believe me there was a lot. It has taken overnight to stop the bleeding completely. Apart from the odd time I step on him or his tail we are getting along just fine now. I haven't and won't try to put the harness on again. DS2 can have that pleasure when he gets back tomorrow. Annie - great picture of the little bloke. Geez he is growing up fast isn't he. That is bad news on the worker front. Over here she would sue for wrongful dismissal. It's not as if she didn't have any witnesses. Good work on cleaning out the Dad stuff. Never an easy job. Happy - hope you have a good day with a full days work at the store. Michelle - the dog walk sounds great. It's so nice to socialise with other dogs and dog owners. Those ones are usually responsible ones as well. Mel - sheesh, can these people ever be moved along? The cheque may be good but how good is it for you?? We can phone anytime during the week if you want. I have no appointments this week although I will have to go to M's place one day, but that's not crack of dawn stuff. Laura - not sure of what shrubs you are pruning but I find it best to take about a third off the roses when I prune always trying to keep the bush to a sort of tulip shape so the air can move. The ficus out the front I take to with the chain saw. It can be cut off at the base and still grow back that one. My neighbour uses a hula hoop to keep them in a ball shape. Ceejay - I am only the same height as Happy however my sister is much shorter so I am not the shortest one. Time to go sort out the battle of the cats. It is too quiet around here. What are they up to. Worse than kids |
Been outside most of the day. And yes I mowed my own lawn. It was really looking bad so I text B and told him I had the urge to mow. He said lol, ok. I hope I can keep this up as it's good exercise. It was actually nice out today as well. And I can't complain about it, cause I did it.
----------- Shad Ouch on the finger. Glad it's stopped bleeding. Mel Did the auditors get through today at work? Annie What a find on the zip locks bags full of money! Happy How late does the Thrift store stay open? Laura Di you go exercise today? Or just work outside. |
Good evening all.
Ceejay - Good for you mowing the lawn. Yes, it's really good exercise. If the lawn was too long and bf has to bag it instead of just mulching it into the lawn, he's really tired out after having to empty the bag into the yard waste can again and again. I exercised today AND worked outside. And boy am I feeling it now!! Shad - What an adventure with the kitten!! Your poor finger, and I hope you didn't traumatize the little guy for life by whatever you clipped when you were trying to harness him, lol. When Coal was a pup, bf once clipped his ear when he was putting on his collar. Ever since, Coal has a bit of a cower whenever we put on his collar - it's crazy to think that behavior is just from that one incident, but who knows? We've always been ultra careful ever since then...I think it's just the clicking sound when the two parts of the fastener come together that bugs him. I was pruning the purpleleaf plum, and I sure hope all the new growth at the base of it comes up nicely because I had to remove a lot of overgrown and mis-grown limbs. We'll see. Happy - Hope your double shift at the shop went well today. Ugh, mosquitos! I'm glad we're not dealing with them yet, but I know all the rain we had will bring them on at some point. LOL re the chive blossom! Mel - Cute photo today! I hope the audit is done and you get a chance to rest tomorrow! Have a good evening. Annie - Too bad about your work buddy getting terminated, but when they want to do it, they find a way. Too funny finding all that change in your dad's closets. It'll be fun to see how much it all comes to, and a dinner out with family will be a nice way to spend it. Michelle - Sounds like a busy weekend with both work and fun. Hope you got the necessary work completed. Did you go to the ballgame or the movies last night? Have fun with Santa at the fundraiser! :) === Bf went out to a friend's summer trailer yesterday and spent the day boating and stayed there overnight. I took doggy for a walk after work and then watched tv and read a book. This morning was a Jazzercise class and I stopped and bought gas on the way home. I did a load of laundry and pruned the one shrub, then bf and I went to my eye doc to pick up my pair of trial lenses. It's not far from our favorite Middle Eastern food joint, so we stopped there for lunch afterwards. Back at home, I finally planted the two string bean plants I bought, as well as planted three pots with geraniums. What a nice day to be outdoors! I have a lot more geraniums to plant in the spot right off the patio, but I'd had enough planting for the day and still had to walk doggy. After walking doggy, I was totally pooped, so I sat down in the 3-season room and started reading a library book bf had just finished - Six Years by Harlan Coben. I like his books, so it should be good. BF and I are going to watch the Hawks game tonight and order a pizza for dinner. Nothing special planned for tomorrow, except some more laundry, more planting, more pruning, and some shrub trimming. At least the latter is more straightforward - shaping with an electric trimmer. Gosh, lots of outdoor stuff and I don't even know if the weather is forecast to cooperate with all that. We'll see. Okay, gonna post this and do some stretching - my hamstrings are complaining! |
It's back to work for me this morning. The weather man is predicting storms for later this afternoon. But one rolled through about 5 a.m.
Laura It was nice here yesterday as well. I could have used an extra day off to finish everything. But I'll have more time next week end. I soaked in the tub last night and took a Mobic as my lower back was killing me. But that's okay. I feel good today and just a bit sore. Wished I like to read! My mower does well in mulching. But the grass was still a bit wet. |
One of the acct's has the computer on. I asked if I could post here. It's our little secret. He let me do it the other day too.
They are almost done. It was a big audit and a lot of paperwork needs to be put away. The "normal" part of my weekend has been busy since Friday night with alarms and people going to the hospital. They will never learn about going out in humid weather and excessive heat. One man told me on the way out...You were right and I shouldn't have gone out.....well buddy it's too late now. He got IVs and had to stay overnight. Sad. Even the accountants were surprised. The work here with them is nothing physical...just sitting here while these 2 men put stuff away and sort out things for the next meeting this month. That was the big problem. Their vacation. Both are leaving next week and we have a meeting this month as usual. They have to get out an audit report and the usual monthly reports. That's why they made me the offer. Not much money but for sitting here it's OK by me. The kids will be here from Florida and I would like to send them all to the county fair this Summer again.. The extra cash will be my treat. Nothing is cheap anymore. OK I better not take advantage of the computer. I did read all the posts and am missing you guys. My life should be back to normal after I see the boss lady tomorrow. I have a ton to report. I also want to thank everyone for the pictures. I loved all of them. it was nice to see Annie & Dad. I also loved the church Shad. It really was in a beautiful setting. Laura....I cannot believe I got everyone crazy about your birthday a month ahead of time. I am laughing down here in the office. OMG!! Now watch me forget it next month!! ROFL 50% back? Not a bad deal on the WW thing. Michelle......Congratulations on a new grand-nephew Ryan James!!! Too cute. Hope the Mom is feeling better after such a difficult birthing. Is it curves or ww & a gym??? Annie....sorry I wasn't here to give you hugs and hold your hand. That was too bad about the friend at work. Scary too. Sending you good thoughts for some much needed sleep. Shad....Sophia is so adorable. Growing up already. Hope the knee continues to heal. I wish I could smell all the roses over here. Better than the oldies here!!! OMG>>>>> how is the pinky finger?? Geez!!! That must have been terrible. Happy....hope the bears stay away. If I was working at the store, my credit card would be maxed out!! LOL It's sad that the choice few get to run the real part of the store and no new ideas seem to be allowed. Hope your tongue isn't bleeding from all the biting!!! LOL Ceejay....between your inspections and my auditors...we've had a busy time. When the boss spoke of retirement I thought of you. How nice to know where you will be and how it will be. It must be a comfort to you having the sister and plans made. |
Mel
Sometimes I need to be reminded of the heat. Sorry you had the alarms this week end. Remind them to turn on the a.c. and stay inside. We have one more tank inspection next week. I'm still tired from the last one. And yes it is nice to have plans in action for retirement. |
:mad::mad::mad::mad: Just lost a REALLY long post I'd been working on for the last hour. I don't care, I'm blaming the site for this
Very abbreviated post (probably good for all of you ;) ) Yesterday was not as bad as I thought it would be at the store. By 4pm I needed to sit down already - was on my feet almost all the time since walking in the door. It was comfortably busy although my partner and I both agreed that it seemed like we did a lot more business than the till showed. Guess we just rang up a lot of sales in small amounts. I did the morning by myself - it wasn't horrid but I'd rather have someone else there too. Was talking to my former classmate who came in for the afternoon shift - she's a retired English teacher. Turns out my next door neighbor was one of her most favorite students! And 2 ladies came into the store Mum and daughter. Daughter was purchasing a set of linen napkins and a table cloth. Turns out they were visiting from Newcastle, NSW. I told them I had a friend who lived in Brisbane - they said we're just in Newcastle. Like it's just down the road. I guess in the spread out terrain that is Australia, New Castle is not far from Shad. I thought to myself that if I were visiting, not sure that I'd be shopping in thrift stores - while a nice set of linens, it was no Irish lace! The lady said she also bought 4 bottles of maple syrup to take home, not realizing just how much room and weight 4 heavy glass bottles of syrup would do to one's luggage. Reminded me of Shad's first trip when she picked up a very large ice hockey bag in Canada and toted that all over the U.S. It looks like the popcorn shop is going to reopen - the way they indicated this on the front of the store tells me this is most likely under new owners. They are looking for help. I swear I had a fit of madness and considered it for a moment. Then I remembered how hard the work was and how little it paid. It was nice having the extra money but I decided I will just let DH be my "sugar daddy". ;) Mel - speaking of extra money, nice of you to donate your earnings to the county fair fund for the kids. Is this to give Jen a break and keep them occupied? Glad the accountants let you use the computer while you were sitting there waiting on them. Might as well do something besides sit there and sing happy songs to them in an effort to get them to finish their work quickly :D Ceejay - good going on the lawn work. Certainly a great way to get some exercise and fresh air. Did you do all the sweeping and trimming too? To your question the shop is open 10 to 5 six days a week and 11 to 3pm on Sundays. I'm sure they wouldn't mind having it open later during the summer but it's hard to get people to commit to more than 4 hours once a week. Heck, everyone I met who works there is retired - but I guess they all have very busy lives. I laughed that they had to split the Sunday 4 hour shift into 2 shifts, everyone was complaining it ruined their Sundays and no one wanted to work. If I'm going to get dressed up and out of the house, I'd rather spend 4 hours than 2. 2 hours is a waste of gasoline! Speaking of which - how much is gas in your respective areas? Ours went up to $4.29 a gallon over the holiday weekend - funny how it ALWAYS goes up around a travel holiday and comes back down the week after. It's $4.05 a gallon right now. Shad - owwww on the cat snag. That was quite a wound - got you good it seems. Just the right spot at the right moment and they can sure knick you a good one! Our first cat would not take to a harness - acted like Annie's Sassy. But she tolerated a neck collar and long leash because she loved being outside. After a while DH would take her outside without it. I was always nervous about that because I know I can't outrun a cat and some of them make a game of running if they think you are chasing them. Nice of you to give him a taste of the great outdoors. Interesting point about using a hula hoop to shape the shrubs. Don't much have to worry about that here - we cut down the pompous grass each year, the deer make fast work of chewing the new shoots and blossoms on the flowering trees and the pine trees just need dead and low branches trimmed. Annie - hope Dad's coins added up to a lot more than you thought and you all had a very nice family dinner. Enjoy your beach walks Michelle. Laura - umm pizza sounds good - you've got me having a taste for it now. I wonder if I can get DH to take me out again :chin: We did go out to dinner last night as I was not feeling like cooking after a long day. Did the Blackhawks win? Since you replanted your beans did you also get a fence to keep the bunnies out? I could probably send a fox or two down your way - they seem to have made fast work of the rabbits - haven't seen one here since last summer. :( It's a rainy day today. Will be that way all day I think. Yesterday was nice and sunny. I think it's supposed to dry up and get warmer over the next week. That sure will be nice. I have to go harvest some of the lettuce and arugula out of my garden - a salad is in the works for dinner soon. Still need to get those herbs into pots - my dill is going to seed and the cilantro is not far behind. I will probably just plant some seeds for those 2 to restart. And I have some tidying up to do in the house. Enjoy your Sunday everyone. |
Hi ladies -
On Friday night, my date and I went to dinner and then to the movies. It was too hot to sit and watch a baseball game. We saw The Great Gatsby. I had not seen the original nor read the book, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I thought it was very, very good. Saturday, I went to a workshop where you use acupressure points to ease pain in your body. I'm going to practice this so hopefully it will help my back. Saturday afternoon, I got together with some friends for a BBQ. Good times! Today, I was going to take Santa on a fundraiser dog walk, but I woke up with a sore back and legs, so I think we'll be going to the dog park instead...less walking for me. Plus Santa will have more fun at the dog park because it will mean more off-leash play for him. Before we go to the dog park, I'm going to do some vacuuming for my step-mom. =================================== Annie - Sorry to hear about your friend at work. I hope you're able to get some sleep soon Have you tried ZzzzQuil? Mel - I hope you're not working too hard. Take care of yourself, sista. Happy - How come you're doing a double shift at the store? I thought being a volunteer you wouldn't have to sign up to work so much. Thanks for the tip about the chive flowers! Ugh! LOL So interesting that you had custoemrs from NSW! That would be madness for you to go back to the popcorn shop...where you practically were a volunteer. To answer your gas question...ours here went up over the holiday weekend, but it's back to around $4.09 for regular unleaded. I use mid-grade, which is about $4.19. Ceejay - I had to laugh at your comment about being short compared to your cousin. On my dad's side, I have 5 cousins and the women are 5'10" and the men are well over 6'. My sister and I are right around 5'1" or 5'2" (on our tiptoes). Well done on the lawn mowing. It is great exercise. Shad - Yikes! That's awful about the cat harness and your pinky! Is Miss Puss getting along with or avoiding her temporary house guest? Laura - I hope the weather cooperates with your outdoor chores. It's really nice here today...though probably some will think it's cool (in the low 70s), I say that's perfect! I don't have to worry about my lil buddy Santa getting overly hot in his fur coat. LOL I'd better sign off for now. Much love and many hugs, |
Hi guys....just not in the mood to do personals. Promise to get back to it later in the week. The coins turned out to be $642.02. Looks like we will all have a great night out with dinner. I did finally take a PM last night and slept from 10 pm till 5 am this morning, but had to get my sh*t hot as we had to make deliveries out to DSs house. He wanted the treadmill and bike. Also my old dresser. I took dad's dresser. It has been a very busy day. We used Cs work box truck to do it all. Got rid of a bag of trash, clothes etc out of my dresser in the process...C has been my rock and so sweet to me. Makes me want to cry, not used to the support. I only cry about dad/mom once a day. Some times for a few minutes, sometimes for an hour or two. Today just a few moments when I heard the song on the radio.."I can only imagine" Jolly crap, as MELLIE said.
That it is about it for me. Got a bit to do before relaxing. Hugs |

Morning all,
I've got a podiatrist appointment shortly - just a follow up - so quick post for me. I think we are FINALLY getting some warmer weather and a break in the rain. It's been wet and gloomy - my tomatoes are very spindly, sad and not a good color of green. If this keeps up I'll get nothing. On the other hand I do have some blossoms on my green beans but not the sugar snap peas yet. I have 1 nice yellow summer squash and 2 more babies are on their way on that plant. The carrots are thriving and I picked a bunch of arugula yesterday which DH had for his salad. Interesting how the home grown arugula has a much stronger flavor than the stuff you get in the packages at the store. My cucumbers are not looking too great either - I think they need a bit of warmth and dryer soil. Hopefully the weather this week will perk them up :crossed: I burnt my lips badly yesterday :( I made some salmon - pan fried. There is a French cooking technique that involves tipping the pan slightly, gathering the hot oil in a spoon and rapidly spooning that over the top of the fish to cook the top part while the pan cooks the bottom. I have used that technique before, it always makes the fish turn out just yummy. At one point I put the spoon into the salmon to check for doneness and went to go taste the salmon for seasoning. Did not realize how darn hot that spoon was and I burnt the bottom sides of my lips quite badly. They are a bit swollen and very tender - you can't tell when I have my mouth closed but if I push my lower lip out (as if to pout), it's pretty nasty. Since it's in my mouth, nothing much I can do to put anything on it, just have to let it run it's course. Dumb, dumb, dumb move on my part. I only work tomorrow afternoon at the store, the rest of the week is mine. Good thing as I have lots to do. Right now I need to jump in the shower, will be back later with personals. |
Michelle
The gas prices in my city is $3.35/gallon, but in Jonesboro/Paragould area the prices will vary from $3.29 to $3.23. I can relate to the sore back and legs. I had that when I got through with the lawn. About made up my mind that as long as the mower runs I'm going to mow. And yes I did do the weed eating. I have a blower so that comes in handy for getting the grass etc off the sidewalks and drive way. The lawn mower mulches so that's a blessing in itself. Annie Wow, that was a lot of change. So glad that you have C to lean on right now. He's really been a good man. Happy Glad you had second thoughts on going back to the popcorn shop to work. But that would have been your decision. Meeting a variety of people would be interesting. I do love to people watch. Mel Maybe you should put out video's to watch of heat stroke and the like for the seniors. Laura Did you get the plants in the ground? I love to be outside. Shad How is your finger today? ----------------- Had to watch the radar yesterday and run the plant accordingly. It rained hard for about 30 minutes. Thankfully no damaging winds or heavy lightening like they were predicting. Had to call out a lineman yesterday and he didn't want to go because their was no major outages. Da that's what you get paid for. I had a little talk with him to and don't think he appreciated it. I told him to go knock on that person's door and he could tell him what was wrong. The person that called used to be a lineman for the city himself. OOOH he didn't like that. If he hadn't gone the second time I was calling his superior. And he doesn't want P. jumping on his case. These young punks who think they know it all. ugh I told my super this morning in case any thing was said. |
Morning all.
Happy - I hope your foot is feeling better and the pain is not a big problem anymore. I'm thankful I haven't had a recurrence of the plantar fasciaitis pain. My veggies aren't doing all that great - the tomato foliage is not a good color. The fresno pepper plant has some blooms - I don't seem to be have any issues growing those types of peppers. The string beans look alright - not sure what to expect since this is my first time growing them. Yeh, we sure do need some sun and warmth for our gardens! Yes, I put up the "anti-rabbit" fence shortly after the first bean plant was eaten and so far so good. Ouch re your burnt lips!!! I think it's time to switch back to a regular coffee mug - I just burnt my tongue sipping my tea out of the insulated/lidded mug I use during the cold weather. The tea doesn't cool as quickly in that mug and today I sure didn't have my timing right! Nice that the popcorn shop is re-opening, glad you won't be working there and giving your feet a hard time!! Mel - Sorry your weekend was too eventful. I bet you're glad the boss is back and you can report to her and then get some rest. Have a quiet rest of the day. I like that sunny good morning graphic you posted!! :) Annie - Wow, that was a lot of spare change! I'm so glad C has been such a good support during all this. You deserve a great guy and you have one!! Michelle - I'm glad you enjoyed The Great Gatsby. :) You sound like you had a nice weekend. Did you and Santa get to the dog park yesterday? I take it these parks don't require permits?? The park we used to take Coal to required a fee/permit and proof of and shots, rabies, bordatella, whatever. We don't take him there anymore because he's not as predictable around other dogs anymore, and now with his hips, it might be too much for him anyway. What I really miss for him is swimming in the small lake they had there. I wish we could find a nice quiet lake not too far away where he could go for the occasional swim. I'll have to ask around. Ceejay - Hope the inspection goes well this week. Did you end up with a lot of rain by you? My mom said they were getting a lot. === I spent most of yesterday being lazy, and then later I took doggy for a walk, did a load of laundry, and got all but two of my geraniums planted. I thought it was going to rain in the afternoon, but nope. I didn't do any more pruning or trimming out front, but maybe I'll do a bit more after work this week before the garbage/yard waste pickup on Thursday. No movie this week - our organizer is in Italy, lucky girl! I will likely go to Jazzercise on Mon. & Thurs. night this week. My mom's sister in Tuscon, AZ passed away last week at age 84. Turns out she had many health problems that she never disclosed to anyone or did anything to address. She was a lifelong smoker and extrememly sedentary and was on oxygen due to emphysema. She told my mom more than once that her doctor always said something to the effect of "D, I don't know how you do it!" (in a positive way), and my mom learned from one of my cousins that she'd also said that to one of the neighbors as well. It was only when she'd become too thin that her daughter/granddaughters started joining her in the examining room during doctor's visits. unfortunately, I won't be at the recplex to run into my cousin between fitness classes to give her my face-to-face condolences, so I'll try to get in touch another way. Okay, better get back to work. It still isn't doing itself, drats. |
Ceejay, you snuck in on me today. I'm jealous, I paid $4.20 a gallon for my gas on Saturday! Of course we pay some of the highest prices here in IL. The whole state is going to he!! thanks to the crooked and incompetent people running things. It was more important for the legislature to pass a concealed carry gun law this past session than to deal with the elephant in the room - our massive pension debt problem. So now the state's credit rating has been been lowered. Ridiculous. Who in their right mind would choose IL to move their business to?? Okay, end of rant.
Crazy that you had to tell that lineman to do his job - what an idiot. I like your idea of Mel showing the seniors a video about heatstroke, etc. But then they might suffer anxiety attacks from the worry!! |
Good morning ladies -
Quick post for me as I have to get a lot of work done today. I took Santa to the dog park yesterday afternoon, and we both had a good time. The wind was really blowing, and by the time we were ready to leave, I had a sinus headache. So we came home and took a nap. I'm doing much better today. =================== Annie - Wow! Over $600 in coins! That would make for a wonderful evening out! Glad you were able to get some sleep. I'm glad C is being so supportive and wonderful. You deserve it. Mel - I do hope you get to rest some this week. Take a Melli-day or two. Shad - Is the finger healing? The photos you posted on FB of the kitties are adorable. Happy - Good luck at the podiatrist. That's awful about your lip. Hope it feels better soon. Ceejay - Good on ya' for getting all the yard work done. I hope the inspection goes well this week. Laura - The dog parks around here are run by the cities. So there are no fees or permits needed. So sorry to hear about your aunt passing away. Sending condolences and prayers to your family. Hoping that Happy's and Laura's gardens get the sun/warmth they need to perk the plants up and get them to produce. Time for me to focus on getting my work done. How I wish the programming fairies would come to help me out sometimes. LOL Much love to all, |

Hiya all,
Thought I better get in here before I forgot again. If I don't do it early then I either don't get back for the rest of the day or by nighttime I am just too tired to think about what I need to write. Must be getting old. So the terrorist cat has gone home. Jeez man he could stink up a house no trouble. He was very good about the litter tray but man what a pong. I can still smell it so I guess the floor is about to get a wash very soon. Going into town tomorrow to check out some new cars. Not sure what I want to buy yet. But it is time. So I will go check out on M and his office and see what gives there and then start at the top of the range of the cars I have selected to test and work my way down to the cheapest. Ceejay - good idea mowing your own lawn. Good exercise Laura - Finger is going along. Hasn't completely stopped bleeding yet but it is very slowly weeping. I'll leave the bandaid on for a couple more days. I've got to go back to the doctor later in the week for a report on the Lichen schlerosis so I might get to talk to her about it if it still hurts and bleeds then Mel I have found a house for you in NZ. It's called Mel's House. I'll attach a picture if I remember. Happy - so you met up with someone from Newcastle. :faint: Buying linen. :faint: Can't she find any stuff down here. There are some fantastic craft markets in the Newcastle Hunter Valley area that sell all sorts of things. Off course you would bring some maple syrup home. I did last time I was in Canada. The stuff they sell here is revolting. Michelle - No Miss Puss was not impressed with having the terrorist around. She was very naughty and forgot all her clean habits and sprayed around the yard and pooped on the concrete I had just cleared and cleaned. Sorry TMI. Annie - time heals and at least you are posting, if not doing personals. Sounds like you are busy anyway. All this clearing of gym stuff and drawers and taking them to other people. Gas down here is currently running at 1.37 per litre. That makes it about $5.19 a gallon. So count your blessings girls. Can't think of much else. But will come back later to check on what gives online. Mel's wee house in Arrowtown - one of the most beautiful little towns on earth and here's a house we could use as a commune meeting house. It is the new marae meeting house at Turangawaewae. Try getting your tongue around that one |
Tuesday Morning....starlog 6.11.13. I feel like an alien just moving along in space today. Cannot concentrate. Driving to work was a real chore and could not remember to pay attention. Just a little foggy this morning. Guess I need to get some coffee in me, or something to wake me up. Bah!
Sissy is coloring my hair tonight, hard to believe 4 weeks have already passed since the last coloring. Sassy is enjoying lil man and the babysitting kids at Sissy's house. I did call the vet yesterday as Sassy's lil eye is still weeping. It cleared up for a bit but came right back. Vet put her on children's benedryl for 3 days to see if that helps and is allergies. Go figure! SHADDIE....my two cents on a new vehicle is a Toyota, great mileage and lasts forever. That is just my opinion. We could probably put that lil house on the commune site for MELLIE...that is if HAPPY does not object. lol CHELLE...hope you got all your work done and if you do see any of those fairies of any type, please do share. lol. Sounds like Santa and you are both enjoying CA. Good for you both! LAURA...sorry to hear of your Aunt's passing....Sad times. CEEG...pretty bad when people get paid to do their job and they don't do it. Sometimes it takes a reality talk from someone. Good for you but sheesh. HAPPY...the way you pan fry your fish you can also do eggs, over easy that way too, especially in bacon grease...yikes calories and so fattening. My dad used to love them that way. Thank you for the lovely card also. I sure do feel the love lately for you all. MELLIE...mmmmmmmmmm roast for TV dinners. That is one of my favorite meals..roast, mashed taters, gravey and of course green beans. YUM YUM. Hey Grandpa, what's for dinner? <--- Hee Haw~! That is about it for me, one day at a time is my motto, really one moment at a time. Have a terrifice Tuesday/night. Loves |
