Good Morning Chicklets....

I am the only one in the Indy office today. I am just kicking back and having my java right now. Have several things to do today, but not going to run ragged getting them done. I just may have an in-house vacation day.

HAPPY...what is on the agenda for dinner tonight. I am thinking of some kind of chicken dish. Or maybe my homemade pizza. I ususally don't decide til just before I go to cooking, unless I find a recipe I want to try.

SHADDIE...hope you get some good rest to rejuvenate for the next project. Do you have your next assignment yet?

MELLIE...enjoy your day with Jen. Have some laughs and fun.

Gotta refill my java cup.

Have a wonderful day/night all.

loves and hugs

No Michelle - keep the chocolate and the stuff that puts a big smile on DH's face and just get the bamboo sheets for the aftermath

Hope your implementation goes well. We got some surprising rain tonight so I'm happy I don't have to water the garden. Will try and blow some down your way too.

Annie - I'm going to try your chop recipe - it's sounds delicious and very easy to pull together. Thanks for posting. The picture I posted was actually a Goldfinch, I have some of the chickadees too - they (chickadees) always remind me of a winter bird but they sing such a lovely song and are such gentle birds. The chickadees will patiently wait on a branch if another bird is at the feeder until it flies off.

This evening after dinner one of our adult deer came to feed. Very tentatively a young fawn came around the side of the man cave. I'm thinking it's Momma was eating because the youngster came right beside it and the big one left it alone. They were inches apart from each other. I very quietly slid the screen door open and poked my face out to take their pictures but my camera setting was not correct and the pictures came out too dark.

And for the "well there's always something new to see album" - today I looked out the windows and there on the side of the yard was our flock of 18 turkeys with the youngsters all napping. There were two adults walking among them and watching for danger but the "kids" were all sleeping. This picture doesn't do it justice but the minute I went out on the deck all the little heads popped up. It was the funniest thing.

There is something not working right with my online photo album so no pictures until I figure it out.

Morning all. TGIF!!!

Annie - Enjoy your in-house vacation day today and Hope Springs tomorrow. How were the chops?

Mel - Not going to the senior bbq??!! I guess you know what you'll be missing and really won't be missing much of anything except the fussing, LOL. Enjoy your quiet time away from it. No, I'll just put my tea list on my "Note" app in my iphone. I did find a website for tea reviews, but I believe it's mainly loose teas, and I tend more towards bag teas for work especially. (teaviews dot com)

Shad - Breakfast visitors...sounds like an early start. Hope you had a good night's sleep after the hard day's work.

Happy - Your pork chop dinner sounded tasty! Yeh, when it's a nice day, any of those boat cruises are fun. I like being on the water.

Michelle - Hope you find some sort of relief from the menopause symptoms. Not looking forward to any of that. I haven't been watering much at all - once we had a couple good rains, I seem to have fallen off. My veg garden isn't producing all that much and I think a big part of that is lack of water.

Ceejay - Hope your weekend is off to a good start!
--
Nuttin' much to report. Didn't do a darn thing after work. Bf went out to see the new Bourne movie with a friend.

Nothing planned this weekend - yay! But I guess I should put together a list of stuff that needs doing. Will start off with a spin class Sat. morning.

Annie - I was thinking steak fajitas tonight. Got to use up more tomatoes so was thinking of salsa. Also thinking of maybe canning some salsa too. My friend said because tomatoes are naturally acidic that they are usually pretty goof proof when it comes to canning. Never did that before. I'm glad you finally have a quiet day in the office - you deserve it based on how hard you've been working lately.

Laura - I guess you guys are still getting some heat down there. Saw another report about shootings in the city as well as at the Empire State Building. Geez Louise what is going on? Makes me glad that the occasional gun shots I hear over here are just target practice Have a good spin class and a nice weekend.

Mel - the yellow bird is a goldfinch. I tried to post a picture of the chickadee and the napping turkeys but my photo app won't work at the minute. Glad some nice weather is finally headed your way. Tell them on Tuesday they can just fix you a nice plate and bring it up to you - you'll dine in on BBQ I guess we all get more crotchety as we age - part of our charm The worst ones are those who have been cranky all their lives - you can easily pick them out.

Shad - breakfast and you didn't invite us? Were you digging yesterday? DH wants to start working on the moat/rock pile. I need to channel your love of digging outside

Looks like summer is back for one small push. Supposed to get near 90 here which is pretty warm considering I've had to cover my garden a couple of days last week against the night chill. It's a nice sunny day - lots of birds are chirping outside - seems like a early summer morning. We got alot of rain last night which is good for the garden. I hope the cucumbers plump up a bit - they have gotten skinny from the night chill I think but the plants are still pushing out cukes so I'm happy with that. I guess I'll pull out my arugula. It has these things that look like cat tails on the ends - I thought it was tightly rolled leaves that would open but I guess it's seed pods or something. In any regard, I think the plant is done producing for the season. My cousin gave me a couple of bulbs of garlic he grew in his garden. It was really good - more flavorful than the stuff in the store. Only thing is it takes up alot of landscape space although you do plant it in the fall and it develops over the winter. I think tho it does tend to grow a bit in the spring - you don't pick it until the tops dry out) so I'm thinking it might compete with space I'd rather use for other vegetables. I'd also like DH to expand the raised beds. I think he put too much open space and not enough bed space but when I brought it up he said he'd rethink it next spring.

Anyway I need to get some food in me and figure out some goals for the day. Hope you all have a good Friday.

Hellos to those who haven't checked in yet Good luck on your implementation tonight Michelle.

Super quick post....I started work at 11 today since I have to work until between 8 and 9 pm. Lots to get done around here today. I went to the pharmacy and the pharmacist recommended Estroven for my hot flashes. I took one as soon as I got home, and did not have any night sweats. I took one right before I left for work (the dosage is one per day). Hopefully, I'll get through the day without any hot flashes.

UPDATE: So far today, I've had 2 hot flashes while at work....so I'd say the Estroven is helping because they aren't as bad or as frequent.

This weekend will be spent decluttering, and maybe taking DMIL to our town's GermanFest. Right now, I just want to make it through the day.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

Much love,

Morning all,
Going to be another nice day here. Seems like we are about to skip Spring and go directly to Summer. Not that we get a traditional spring up here anyway.
My hole in the ground is growing. I suspect I will have another 4 days of digging to go and then put in all the gravel and pavers and weed mat stuff. I'll post pictures when finished.

Michelle - sorry can't help with the hot flushes and mood swings since I never had any. Just went from whoa to go in six months or so and no problems whatsoever - only one hot flush that I remember. However I did listen to my body at the time and when I think back now, I realise that for some time before I actually ceased having periods, my body was rejecting a lot of dairy, especially milk. I switched to soy milk and had no further problems. I'm back on the normal stuff but Cream will still make me queasy from time to time. It's better if I don't have it anyway. We have a product here called Promensal which sounds much like what you are taking. I'm not one for drugs and would have refused HRT if it was offered. One risk too many for me. Thankfully I didn't need anything. Germanfest, Irishfest - are you the festival State or something?

Happy - once I have finished the rocks over here, I'll be over to dig the rocks over there. Are you building a portcullis to go with the moat?

Mel - We will be having a bbq over here soon, shift your butt over, no smoke here - at least not much and we'll put you next to the roses rather than the bbq. Work on the voice inflections for 'Red Binder' bet you can get all sorts of spin on those two words. And they are not rude like FO

Laura - good luck with the early morning class. I haven't been to gym since I got back, but I am getting plenty of exercise in the yard and house anyway.

Annie - guess you would have had a good day in the office yesterday. Can't argue with yourself. Generally don't tell yourself off either.

Here comes the sun. Hope it doesn't get as hot and humid as yesterday. Had to turn the aircon on last night because it was still 27C in the house at 9.00pm Damn, sounds like a real rotten summer coming up. Gotta love the months from March to November, but summer is mostly rotten. Need another place to spend the summer months.
Anyway, better go and get digging again - another two or three barrow loads of soil going out today. That should get rid of the worst of the digging. Back later

For Mel - some outdoorsy pictures -

A pair of male goldfinches on the feeder -

This is a chickadee on the feeder -

DH was able to snap a pic of baby and momma deer in the early morning -

And finally - the wild turkeys napping on the lawn. Yes they look dead but it's because they flop down, sort of shimmy into the grass to make a dent and then cover their heads under their wing. One of those "can't quite capture in a picture what it really looked like" but you get the idea...

Not much going on today. Yesterday I made salsa to use up some of the garden tomatoes. Cousin uses garlic in his so I thought I'd try that. Didn't much care for it and it seemed to make both of us sick last night. A really restless night. Was going to go for a walk this morning but not up to snuff. Then DH went fishing with the cousin. I should go do something fun too but I think I will tackle some things around the house and make DH take me out later. It's a bit overcast here - can't tell if we are getting pop up rain storms so kind of hard to plan outdoorsy things.

Shad - did not know what a portcullis was - guess you visiting castles makes you more up on the lingo than me If I could manage it, I would put one on but it probably does not fit into the cabin / northwoodsy decor How's the digging coming along? You can help assemble the fire pit. I convinced DH to get one yesterday - it's made of bricks so will be sturdy and has a nice grill on the top so we can have a fire and cook stuff too if we want. Ever have potatoes roasted over an open campfire? They are just amazing!!!! Sorry to hear you missed spring. Seems the seasons are like that.

Mel - sorry to hear that Jen is still hurting. I have to imagine this is a bitter pill to swallow. Hope she feels better. You could probably do nothing and do more to earn your monthly check than the people in the office. Keep your chin up.

Michelle - sounds like you are in summer festival mode. Have a good time - don't stress the back out.

Hellos to the rest of the chicks. Think I'll find something (non garlic) to eat. Happy weekend.

Hello All....

Well today entailed a delivery of my new Stainless steel fridge. We got it from the scratch and dent section of HHGreeg. Very nice, little to notice of the dents. HOWEVER, when they were taking if off the truck they dropped it off the dolly and it went on it's side. Major scratching and denting of the side of the fridge. Well guess what...they offered us 200.00 bucks off. But C and I were worried about the mechanics rather than the scracthes. So they conceded to deliver a brand new fridge tomorrow afternoon. We made off like bandits. Got a 4 grand fridge for 1700. What a deal. It is stainless steel, bottom freezer, upper fridge, ice maker and water on the front...I am excited. Glad I didn't throw a fit. I just told them don't sweat the small stuff, and look what I ended up with .....Yahoooooo!!! It also has a drawer between the upper fridge and bottom freezer for cold cuts, cheese, etc....I am Excited!!

Babysat lil man while Sis and Chris helped his parents move. He was sooooo good. A perfect lil gentleman. I even went to the grocery with him. He took a 1 hour 45 minute nap. Man am I spoiled to a great baby. The next one will be holy terror. lol.

Tonights dinner was twice baked potatos, meat loaf and just for C...mac n cheese. We are all full and happy. Maybe just a lil tired.

Guess I will close and think about bed...whether it cooperates with me or not...maybe take a sleeping aid.....

Have a great night/morning Shad...

Love and hugs

Good morning peeps,

Got up early this morning and went for a walk on the nearby nature trail. I thought it was going to be a paved/semi-paved path. NOT! It was all through the woods and I half expected to see Little Red Riding Hood come strolling past us. The path was strewn with greenery and tree roots and such - didn't much care for that because I have to intensely focus on where I'm walking so I don't trip on a root or something. Also it was really really buggy and I hated the bugs buzzing in my ears. DH was a gentleman and gave me his (dry) sweat towel to flick the bugs away. I said this would be a nice walk in the late fall after the bugs cut back. Or I could wear my bush hat and head net. We then took a drive to a nearby lake a mile and a half away. They have a boat launch area where we could park and take a nice walk around the lake on the paved road and eventually work our way up to a 3 mile hike from the house to the lake. We also bought a firepit yesterday - bunch of bricks with an inner core of iron and it has a nice grate on it so we can also roast potatoes and corn and steaks if we want. Think of Michelle's flower circle she build but on a smaller scale and instead of the tree and flowers in the center, we have a grill Will take a pic when done. I'm about to go out and help DH.

Annie - how good is that about the refrigerator? Something that could have been a major disaster turned out so well for you. Very happy there woman. Sounds like a fabulous refrigerator/freezer. We have had experiences like that with the delivery guys dropping refrigerators too. Once they dropped it so hard it shattered the glass shelves inside and THEY THOUGHT WE'D ACCEPT IT THAT WAY. Fools! I think we also had issues when we ordered the stand up freezer from Sears here. I'm glad you opted not to accept the dropped unit. That refrigerator is going to be so lucky with all the yummy stuff you cook up and keep in it Oh and last night for supper I had leftover meatloaf, mashed potatoes and garden veggies - but I'm sure yours was better!

Mel - yum Cuban sandwiches I love 'em even tho I'm not fond of pickles or mustard I'm glad you liked the pictures - I forget how when one is in the city, all you get to see is concrete. Was watching a tv show about art galleries in NYC and it brought to mind about how you don't get any trees or grass. No wonder everyone loves Central Park. Bummer that it got warm and humid again keeping you inside. Enjoy it, autumn will be just around the corner. There are lots of little peeks of oranges and reds out here. Not full on trees but a small branch turning. Can't wait for the color show. It sounds like they took a vote in the building and you are the only one allowed to think. Of course I'm sure it's much easier to Ask Mel than think for themselves. Geez... Hope you have a quiet Sunday.

I need to get out and go help DH. Enjoy the day ladies...

Morning all
Seems like if I don't get in here first thing, then I never get back to it. Sorry I didn't post yesterday although not much happened around here until late in the afternoon anyway.

Saturday night I went to Chris and Tims place. They are the ones that got burgled a while back. DS2 was putting in some more sensor lights and fixing some other electrical stuff for them. They invited us for dinner (with the DS2's g/f). Anyway we had a nice dinner, I watched the footy (my team won - yeehaa), when DS2 got a call from a neighbour next to one of his rental houses to say that there was a strange car in the back yard. DS2 took off with g/f and called the cops on the way. Turns out that the car was stolen, and we think left in the yard of the unoccupied house probably while they scouted around looking for places to burgle. Cops didn't arrive until midnight and meantime DS2 took some bedding around from here to there and went to sleep. He was concerned that his tools collection (around 5K worth) would get stolen. They got woken up by the neighbour again saying that there was a woman at their place trying to get to the stolen car. DS2 had parked the ute in such a position as the car couldn't get out. When DS2 went to open the door to look, there was a woman on his verandah. He said she wanted to take her car back and that she had hidden it there because she was being stalked. In the meantime, the neighbour spots a furniture van driving very slowly down the street. Seems maybe she wasn't on her own. DS2 rings the cops again and describes the woman - she is still standing in front of him. When she realises he is not kidding about talking to the police, she slopes off down the road. He said he didn't get to take her photo - he wouldn't make a great tell it all would he???
Anyway to cut the story short, the cops arrived eventually and towed the car away. Apparently it is a stolen hire car. They say they think they know who the woman is by the description given by both the neighbour and the DS2. DS2's g/f is a lawyer and has been drafting statements for both the neighbour and the DS2 so they don't have to spend much time at the cop shop waiting for the fuzz to type them up etc. Things we do huh!

Yesterday, I dug out another 4 barrow loads of soil. Reckon there is two more days of digging to go and then reconstruction of my ideas. Another 2 or three days. Maybe by the end of the week it will all be done.
DS2 and g/f made dinner last night. Roast lamb with rosemary and garlic, roast veges, steamed veges, it was very nice.

No digging today as I am going into town to talk to some people about work and then going to my accountant to talk about trust funds for the grandchildren. Plural because I only want to deal with one fund and not several incase someone decides to have some more or someone else decides to have one.

Happy - firepit will be welcome on chilly autumn days but can't see you using it mid winter much. Love the pictures

Mel - you might have to pretend amnesia or dementia to stop having to think for others. Just keep up the 'red binder, red binder' mantra

Annie - new fridge. Nice. Well done on standing up for your rights. You would always be waiting for the scratched, dented and dropped one to stop working. That takes the fun out of a new appliance.

Well better get up from this chair and get on with my day. Might have to move it as the cat has that look again - she'll be off down the hall again at top speed shortly. Tail waving madly, feet skidding on the floor boards, ear back, eyes wide. Nuts. Doesn't she know she is OLD.
