Worldly Chicks Jumping JOY-ously in July
https://encrypted-tbn3.google.com/im...5KRQn4kOfTdZ3w
I just realized it was July 1st!!:carrot: We can't start a NEW month without a NEW thread.... especially at the beginning of a NEW week!! Don't you just love NEW things???? Hope everyone is having a great weekend. See you all manana. PS: Don't tell anyone....but we probably have jumped joyously before!!! :sssh: THE OLD JUNE THREAD IS HERE: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/supp...chicks-16.html |
Thanks for setting up the new thread Mel. Love the jumping girls - except I'm sure our "girls" would be jumping higher than those girls "girls" - and speaking for myself I can no longer run that fast or jump that high
Here's a picture from the webcam. Forgive the squiggly "writing" as I am left handed but I mouse right handed and like anyone, I'm not too good at drawing letters with my non dominant hand. And oddly enough, since I've been right mousing ever since they invented mice (yes I am old enough to remember computers before they invented keyboards, mice, cd players and floppy drives :^: ) - I'm kind of startled to see that I can't mouse lefty  Anyway it's kind of hard to see the shadow of the raccoons butt as he runs from the bear under the porch but that's indeed what it is... http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e6...coon063012.jpg |
reposting my last post - not that it was so important, but it does explain the bear picture.
Good morning all, Heat's finally creeping up here though not as warm as many of you are dealing with. Still it is relative and hotter than normal is hotter no matter what the actual temp is. DH set up the webcam to see if there is a raccoon trying to get in under the deck. He was quite surprised to see pics of that darn bear at 10:48pm and again at 3am. I can't for the life of me figure out why that guy WON'T LEAVE . There is nothing to eat except poor L.B. I also don't want to wake up one morning to find my garden fencing ripped down and all my plants eaten. DH figured he was still around as he saw a big pile of scat when he was mowing that he said wasn't there last week. The fact that he's around at 10pm just after it gets dark is a bit unnerving. I often leave both entrance doors open off the deck to get a cross breeze. The door off the kitchen is right next to my garbage can - would't take much for a hungry bear to smell that and bust right through the screen door. The other night someone came around and tipped over the outside garbage can but the sound of it falling sent them packing so they never got anything from it. DH thinks it was the raccoon, hence the webcam. And the funny thing is, he got 2 pictures at 2 different times and we see some weeds by the porch stairs "moving" if you look at the 2 pictures quickly. Upon closer inspection it appears that the darn raccoon is indeed going under the porch just as the bear is passing by! So see, living the life of Disneyland with all this wildlife is not always birds and songs and happy things! It does make me nervous that the bear is out so early - I generally don't go out at dark on the deck except to step right outside the door and look at the night sky. Don't want to be running into a bear! And if we go out, we and generally home by night fall since it stays light close to 10pm up this way. Yesterday I had such a taste for potato soup and I had lots of potatoes to use up so I made a pot full of cream of potato with bacon. Smelled and tasted so good. DH said it smelled like clam chowder as it was cooking and I realized I stumbled upon the perfect recipe for creamy clam chowder (all these years I have been making DH's favorite broth based soup). So now we can both have the kind we like. Except that clams this way are horridly expensive as in 60 cents each and it takes about 2 dozen to make a decent soup. I talked to Mom yesterday - she is bored - the excessive heat is keeping her inside and she's going stir crazy. I invited her up for a visit but she is supposed to get a heart shock procedure for her atrial fibulation and is hoping to get the go ahead for that in the next week or two. The 2 weeks after that can be touchy in case the shock dislodges a clot so travelling is out of the question for the time being. Mel - I don't understand the fascination with British sitcoms with the seniors. When my Mom hears something British she is always complaining they sound like they are talking with their mouth full of chit But anything to keep them quiet. Do the men watch them too? Sorry the Greek yogurt did a number on you. I wonder why - is some yogurt more potent than others??? I would be delighted to come clean your place. I can promise we'd do more laughing than cleaning You bring the oxygen tank and I'll bring the bucket and rags We are going to focus on getting the garages tidied up this week so your room in the man cave is coming along - although with Mr. Bear roaming, maybe we need to build you a ramp up to the house. Ceejay- hope you had fun with your BFF. Stay cool. I have been watching that dreadful heat down your way. 20 degrees warmer than we are having here. Is that putting a strain at the plant? Laura - hope you enjoyed the concert and didn't melt. I think one of the fun things about that particular venue is it's all about the outdoor experience. Unlike most places where they control what comes in and charge outrageous prices for food and drinks - it's nice that you can bring your own picnic and enjoy the music. I'm thinking because it's been so dry it's kept the mosquitoes at bay too? I've wondered about those bright red tortilla strips too - not a worry anymore because we're far away from any restaurants that serve them Ellen - have a good vacation - don't let DH run you ragged. Annie - yep, saw the news about TomKat. Big surprise She always looked unhappy with him. Between him and Travolta, giving Scientology some bad press yet AGAIN. Heard they disagreed on parenting styles - she wanted Suri to go mainstream with other little kids in regular schools, he wanted her privately taught and away from the other people. She looked like the kind of kid who was never told no in her life. Give her a reality check before it's too late although that may never be. Glad you had fun at the concert - is the band breaking up? Hope you can take the rest of the week off like you planned. Michelle - that's good news about your interview. Hopefully it carries through to the final result for you. Shad - you make a compulsive arguement for eating as unprocessed and natural as possible. I completely notice a difference when I'm eating more on the processed foods and less on the packaged stuff. Same for fast foods which I almost totally ignore - except for Subway now. I'm very glad we don't have those temptations around. Well time to get off the computer, go water the garden and then I need a dye job. It's going to be a hot one, good day to go to the local bar, sit on the deck by the lake and knock back a tasty beverage or two. Good burgers too |
Happy July everyone. Last month was not too bad in general - well except for Michelle changing jobs, Annie needing surgery, Shad having a bad time on the job and Mel getting sick. Ok, never mind. Doesn't matter what we call the stupid thread title - I guess life just happens no matter what

I noticed. Can't stop. On the run. Go live day today. I've landed the plum job of baby sitting one of the planners. No night shift for me this time.
Back tonight with the tales of woe and other things. |
In case you need to sneek behind the storage room and bolster yourself with a drink Shad :hat: Good luck with the go-live.
|
By the way - even worse than Mel's faux pas. I found this yesterday - darned thing is open all year round. Tacky.

GOOD LUCK SHAD!! SORRY I MISSED YOU!! WILL BE SENDING MANY GO LIVE THOUGHTS!!! |
Shad,
Now if you could send some of the cooler weather that goes along with Christmas you would make me extremely happy. Whoa, Happy, The bear looks like he/she has grown. Yum on the potato soup. I bought the small red potato's for this week. Just might make a pot of soup. ---- Can't believe it's July already. |
Hello Ladies,
I can't believe it's already July! I'm disappointed in myself as I havn't been working out nor lost any weight. I have a wedding to go to next week and dread shopping for a new outfit. I am getting on track though, as I have a vacation planned in August and I will be going to New Mexico. Happy - Wow, the bear is a little to close to the house for me. Can you put up any bells or something that would trigger the bear getting near the house? Shad - I hope your work day is going we Mel - I need to cook extra food for the week. I'm afraid if i do then by the time that comes to eat it I won't be in the mood for it. Are you having problems with your Electricity? Hello to everyone! I hope you all are having a great day! |

PATTY.....WHEN I COOK AHEAD....I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM SOMETIMES. NOT HUNGRY FOR THE FOOD I MADE....THEN I GIVE IT TO THE KIDS:rofl: HOPE YOU FIND TIME THIS MONTH JUST FOR YOU  OUR BUILDING IS TOTAL ELECTRIC....BUT WE HAVE A GENERATOR THAT RUNS THE ELEVATORS & HALL LIGHTS IF WE LOSE POWER. SOMETIMES THE CITY DRAWS TOO MUCH POWER AND WE LOSE IT. WE HVE IN THE PAST. BUT IT IS USUALLLY A SHORT LIVED BLACKOUT. A FEW HOURS. NOT LIKE NYC. HAPPY.....HOPE YOU NOTICED THAT SHAD POSTED A CHRISTMAS GRAPHIC TOO!!!  GIVE THAT BEAR AN EVICTION NOTICE!! I WAS WONDERING....... IS THERE A GAME WARDEN OFFICE IN YOUR AREA TO REPORT SUCH THINGS?? SHAD....HOPE THE GO LIVE WAS A SUCCESS:hug: |
Good morning ladies -
Happy July to all!! Sorry I didn't post over the weekend. Saturday was non-stop busy. Website work and watering the gardens in the morning, meeting with a website client in the afternoon, and climbing Mount Washmore in the evening. Then yesterday was more website work and yard work, and by afternoon my back was so sore I was nauseous from the pain. I tried to lay down and relax, and DMIL would ask me to help her with this or that. DH is still sick from his sinus/bronchial infection, so most of our fun weekend plans got cancelled. I haven't been at my new job long enough to get paid for the July 4th holiday. I can either take it without pay or make up my hours, so I'm working 7:30-5:30 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. I probably won't get home until 6:30, so I'll be one tired chick...but at least I'll get a full check on the 13th. I wish we were getting the rain that y'all are getting to the south. It's so dry here. The lawns and grassy areas are as brown as California in August. In fact, some communities are banning the use of personal fireworks, and have thought about canceling their public fireworks displays as well. ======================== Shad - I hope "Go Live" is going well. I know all too well how crazy those can be. It doesn't matter what's being implemented, or how many times you triple-checked that all the "i"s are dotted and "t"s are crossed. It's still stressful dealing with users who have forgotten all their training, or worse...system issues. Fingers crossed that your Go Live goes smoothly. :crossed: So do you like DS2's GF? I hope you were able to get out for a nice walk during the weekend. I think I need to do something like that, especially now that I'm commuting in traffic. I get SO grouchy by the time I get home. Ceejay - Hope you had a great weekend with your friend. Dang, 106 degrees and southern humidity. Try and stay cool, sista. So cute about the momma and daddy ducks and their babies. :) Mel - Good for you for giving the seniors flags to put up! :cp: :cp: :cp: I love British sitcoms too, like Are You Being Served (John Inman is fabulous!), and Fawlty Towers. I've never been a big Benny Hill fan, but I do enjoy Monty Python. Also, I love, love, love the Graham Norton show, but that comes on fairly late at night. Smart thinking to make food for the week in case you lose power. Annie - Yep, I heard that Katie filed for divorce. I totally agree with you about Scientology. It's not even science-based. As my DH says, "It's a religion created by a really mediocre SciFi author." I apologize if that insults any Scientology fans. DH thinks that Katie was paid to stay married to Tom for a certain number of years. I wouldn't be surprised. I'm glad you had a great time at the band's outdoor and indoor concerts!! DMIL is doing really good. She's loving "her" yard and gardens, and tends to them daily. She's so happy and relaxed, and she gets her activity working in the yard...though we insist she leave the big/heavy stuff to us. And she and I both thoroughly enjoy your boxes of magazines and books! If you're sick of sending them, I understand...but we definitely are NOT tired of receiving them. :) I hope this ridiculous heat wave eases up soon. Ellen - I hope you have a great week with your DH being off! Wow! Your storms flattened the cornfields?! :yikes: I keep looking at our farmers' fields around here. So very dry. DH and I were watching the drag races on TV yesterday from Joliet Illinois, and the storm front looked pretty fierce. Laura - Bummer that the Relay was disrupted by rain, but at least they had workarounds. Those luminarias are so moving...as are the walks itself. Before I hurt my back, I did a 5K Breast cancer walk with my sister the year after she completed chemo. I'm so grateful that she's been cancer-free for 16 years! I thank God that I didn't lose her as I've lost so many other loved ones to cancer. :( I'll bet Sarah McLachlan was awesome. I've always wanted to see her. I love the local fests too, and the county and state fairs. Happy - I understand your concerns about the bear in your yard, but I gotta admit, it was cool to see him in the photo. :) As for your garbage being near an open or screen door...I might suggest taking your garbage out every night or putting it in the garage on the nights you keep the door open. I know from my camping experience, that bears are attracted to any scents (even toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo) and will stop at nothing to have them. Black bears typically will not eat LB or you. They are herbivores. And they won't attack you unless you get too close to a cub, corner them, or stand between you and food. What does your cousin suggest you do about the bear in your yard? Is there an "animal control" office that might be able to humanely trap the bear and move him to another area? My DMIL is getting bored with all this heat too. Luckily, our backyard is FULL of trees and there's always plenty of shade. But she likes to have the sliding door to the patio open at night so she can listen to the night sounds, and she hasn't been able to as we've had the A/C on for over a week. I hope your mom's procedure gets scheduled soon and goes well, so that she can come up and visit. Sending lots of prayers for her. As for last month being bad...it wasn't bad for me at all. I'm not at a good job where I'm appreciated and compensated well. I feel bad that Annie and Mel had a rough month. But I'm doing just fine. :) Patty - good for you for getting on track. With this week's 10+ hour days, I'm going to ease into healthier eating and exercising, so that I can kick it into high gear next week. Your idea of bear bells is a good one, and it should startle a black bear enough. One suggestion for hikers in bear territory is to wear bells on their shoes to startle off any black bears. But when you're in grizzly territory (e.g., Yellowstone National park), there's a joke...what is the difference between Black Bear poop and Grizzly Bear poop? Grizzly Bear poop has bells in it!  In other words, black bears will startle at the noise, grizzly bears will come find the source of it. Well, time for me to get some work done. Much love and hugs to all, |
Morning all. Happy Monday.
Shad - Hope go live day went well for you and the rest of the bunch and that you don't report many tales of woe. Mel - Thanks for starting the new thread. :) I sure hope your power doesn't go out!! The thought of anyone being without it horrifies me right now with the heat and humidity we're getting here right now. Love the avatar!! Patty - I haven't been working out lately and my arms are getting really jiggly. Very depressing - not to mention unsightly. :yikes: Nice you have a vacation to look forward to - and to motivate you!! Ceejay - My bf told me he's done with summer already - too hot to want to do anything that involves movement. I think resigning oneself to a constant state of being slick with sweat and multiple showers per day is the key. Happy - That bear is way too close to the house!!! Skunks and raccoons are already scary enough for me. My BIL told me that he recently had the garage door open while doing some yard work and a raccoon got in there and did a lot of damage to items in the garage and to my sister's car while in there overnight. The windows of the car (RAV 4, BTW) were open a little bit, not enough for the raccoon to get inside it, but it still completely destroyed the rubber seals around the windows trying to get in. Thank goodness he couldn't get inside the car - he'd have torn it to heck! Potato soup - yummmm. :eating2: Well, we certainly felt like we were melting at the concert the other night.... It was hot and humid and there wasn't a breeze to be felt, except when people moved past. Outside the pavilion was just as bad as inside it. It would have been nice to have ceiling fans in there the pavilion... I should buy one of those little battery-operated personal fans that hang around one's neck. And do they still sell the aerosol cans of water that mist you?? Hellos to Michelle, Annie & Ellen. -- So as I mentioned to Happy, it was a hot night Saturday for an outdoor concert, but luckily there were no skeeter problems. Sarah McLachlan was very good - such a great voice, and she makes it seem so natural and effortless. The shuttle bus that took us back to where we parked felt like a meat locker after being out in the sweltering heat all night. I was happy to get home and take a shower. I lazed around as usual on Sunday morning, then bf and I caught a quick lunch and then finally saw the movie "The Avengers". We both enjoyed it - so over the top with the action and the effects, but very entertaining. I think Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man is still my favorite character/hero, followed by Thor, but I liked Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk too. Watched some more of season 2 of The Good Wife last night. Bf and I are both hooked on it now. No formal exercise over the weekend, just dog walks. Must get back to it to fight the flab. Okay, back to work. The boss is working from home, so it'll be quiet. The admin hasn't shown up yet, so it's even quieter still. Nothing planned for tonight, but I didn't do any laundry over the weekend, so I'll probably do a load tonight and do a BE workout, whatever I can do sans left arm. TTFN! |
Hi Michelle - you snuck in on me! Sounds like you had a super busy weekend - I hope your back is feeling better today. I've been watering but not doing much in the way of yard work. I didn't put down weed cloth in the veggie patch, so that'll need to be weeded very soon. Ugh. Our grass is very dry, though we do have some shade. Still I'm wondering if I'll need to start watering the lawn to keep it from dying off. How do I tell if the lawn has just gone dormant or if it's dying??!!
Sorry you have such a long commute, and that you have to work long days this week. Make sure you get your rest! |
Morning all,
Had a nice day out with the cousins yesterday. I need to make a new resume - abbreviated - which is more appropriate to some of the jobs I was applying for out this way. I'm finding that mind stumping. Wonder if this means I have outlived my usefulness to hold down a job  We are also supposed to start working on cleaning and sorting in the garages but today is Farmers Market day which I want to check out as well as needed a few things for this week's mostly grill out type menus. We haven't had rain in about a week although there is a 50 percent chance tomorrow. Yesterday I gave everything a good watering and the grass is really really dry. We have about 40 percent humidity which is very low. Good thing is that we don't have sticky hot, just desert dry heat :sunny: which means you feel your skin burning quickly if sitting outside for extended periods. Looks like the critters stayed away last night. DH said he's going to have to take apart the stairs in order to rebuild them properly (crappy job in the first place) and close off the raccoon access route under the porch. He asked if I wanted to go underneath the porch to check for them and was met with a total DUH look from me. He was j/k. To those who asked if we can call someone to take away the bear, the answer is no. One can call the DNR - Dept of Natural Resources - but they just come out, inspect your area and tell you it's against the law to kill/maim/harm/feed a bear. They would have to tranquilize the bear so unless I called as it was ripping down the side of the house and eating DH, there's no way of catching it. About all we can do is make sure we have no available food sources and hope it goes away on it's own. :( The population seems quite active, my cousin has one up his way too. Maybe these are Gen Y bears who don't want to leave home  Laura - I was told that in times of drought that the grass will brown up and just go dormant on it's own. We have accidently burned our grass on 2 occasions when we laid the tarps out to dry in the sun not realizing they acted as a magnifying glass and burned the grass. Dormant grass is light brown. Burnt and dead grass is either a dark brownish green (like stiff straw) or a very very light - almost whitish tan color. Dormant grass is what it looks like in winter. I've heard you just leave it and it will come back on it's own. Unless you're talking newly laid sod in which case you better just live out there with the hose  And yes, raccoons are very destructive and they are probably the most adept at getting access to food, no matter how you store it. I have also heard of them destroying roofs (my sister having experienced that) as they try to get into home attics and eves to find a warm spot for the winter. Glad you enjoyed the concert and the movie. Can you go over to the mall and do some power walking where it's cool to get a workout in? Probably not worth the hassle of getting to WF tho. Geez Michelle - you are always on the run. No wonder you are tired. I sooooo hear you on being cranky after the long commute. I swear that was 60 percent of the aggrivation of working. After dealing with the doo dahs on the road, I'd come in the house just raving mad and often times poor DH caught the volcano exploding. :( I hope things work out with the other place - I'd take a shorter commute over better pay if I had to pick. It's really helpful that you have all this up to date web experience. See that side work helped in more ways than one! Thanks for the prayers for Mom, glad your DMIL is happier with you also. Thanks for the bear info, I heard if the bears get hungry enough, they will scavange for small animal carcasses and anything they can find in the trash. We may have to resort to storing our cans in the garage - once we make some room  Hope you get some rain, I guess you just missed the storms that hit south of you. :( Are you missing Summerfest right now? That's a shame, I know how you enjoyed it. I could imagine the heat would be doublely troublesome for DH. Mel - I love your sun - kept a copy of it. So simple but cute. One thing I think of with NY is power outtages and my horror in life - stuck in ELEVATORS :yikes:  I'm glad you at least have an option if you hit brown outs. I'm sure the seniors would be freaking out. I completely understand about making stuff ahead of time and then not wanting it a couple of days later. Why does that happen? :chin: How goes it with the tummy? Settling down? Patty - we have a webcam outside pointed at the house. Guess we could put some bells on - would have to put it high enough for the bear but not low enough for the raccoons to set them off. I do understand what you mean about being bummed out that the weight loss efforts are stalled. Look at it this way, you still have time to work on it before the cold weather sets in and the insulation sticks harder to the bones  Shad - I'm sorry but I just the biggest kick out of your Christmas Shack store. Probably because I can picture you rolling your eyes in disgust that it stays open all year  Thank you for posting for us. Hope you are surviving the go live. Do you guys realize that Shad's Christmas is during the summer down under? Ceejay - stay cool - we are watching the awful heat down your way and more than ever grateful that we are far from it. Is it sticky humid too? Ok, I'd better get going if I will make the farmers market. |
Just a quick check in to sneak another quick peek at the thread. I also had to mention something...I was checking out some of the bands playing Summerfest this week, and found one with an EXCELLENT NAME - "The Joy Formidable", and I immediately thought of our own dear formidable Shad. :)
I spent the better part of the morning working on a project to update a file, and then one of my co-workers didn't notice that I had the file checked out in our version control system, so he overwrote my changes with his own. Back to square one. And I can't even start re-inputting my changes until he is done. :tantrum: Oh well. No biggie. ======================= Laura - I am right there with ya' that the thought of a power outage with all this heat and humidity scares the daylights out of me. I hope the power stays on for everyone! I don't know if they sell aerosol cans of water to mist you, but I know they have those spray bottles with fans that can either mist you, or create a breeze or both. :) As for the lawn being dormant or dead...I'm not sure how you tell. Established lawns are fairly drought tolerant, even in California. And up here in WI, once we get a good soaker rain, the lawns usually green right up. We're supposed to have isolated t-storms today...I hope they bring a lot of rain. Happy - If you're updating your resume...I highly recommend you check out any and all books by Robin Ryan. I credit the things I learned from her books/audiobooks to helping me wind up with 3 great job offers (and hopefully a 4th one coming this week). Have fun at the Farmer's Market. I wanted to go to ours on Saturday, but my back was too sore and walking was not a good thing for me. As for Summerfest, we haven't been yet. If DH is feeling better, I'd like to go one night this week or weekend, but there are always other fests/fairs if we don't get there this year. |
:dancer:  :woohoo: :woohoo:
I got the job at the hospital!! I start on July 16 with two days of orientation!! I'm so excited!!! yay!!! The salary is not as much as my current job, but more than I made at the company I just left...and the commute will only be about 15-20 minutes each way!! :yay: :yay: :dancer:  :woohoo: :woohoo: |
Michelle
Yipee, I'm excited for your newest job. Wow, dh is having a time with this sinus/bronchitis infection. I finally have mine under control. |
Hello All....
I always wonder why the weeds grow magnificantly without water and the veggies and flowers need extra attention. Got the veggies and flowers and even the two tress in my little bitty yard a little drink. Getting ready to harvest lettuce/spinach for the 4th time. Gave away two bags as I couldn't eat that much. Grilled a zuchinni over the weekend out of the garden. I planted a yellow zuchinni. It was very tasty...I have a mess of green tomatos coming on, when they come ripe it will be a bundle. Green onions are about ready to harvest also. Everything else is going to take some time. Looks like I will have to go into work for about 4 hours tomorrow. I am claiming 8 hours of work time as we are supposed to get paid early release. Guess I will only have Wed as a Co holiday, then taking Thurs, Fri as vacation. Nothing planned so no big deal. Nothing really planned for my days off except maybe spending one day in dad's yard doing a couple of things for him. I love working outside so it really is a great thing for me and him. Should only take a couple of hours fro no more than he wants done. C is in bed already since 8 pm. I think after I post I may head that way since I have all my chores done. Kitchen done, laundry folded and put away, gardens (veggie & flower) watered. Not much else I want to acccomplish tonite. Just too tired and nothing that won't wait till I am off later in the week. Oh CHELLE...I am so excited for you...Congrats on the dream job. The commute and liking the job will be well worth the it. I am so stinkin' happy for you.....YAAAAAHOOOOOO!!!:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::c heer2::cheer2: HAPPY...the whole bear thing just shakes me. Keep your b*tt in the house after dark...I do NOT want to learn that you were his dinner......block off the deck underneath....the d*mn raccoons will wreck it all under there. LAURA....I watch the good wife and like it. However it is out of order and doesn't make a lot of connections to other episodes. I need to rent from season 1 and then forward. MELLIE...hope you made it to TJs. Christmas in July...no thank you...I can barely afford it in December. Smack Smack..... One Day...I know I SUCKED in June, I am right there with you. Prayers Request needed for my mom. She has a infection or something in her left wrist. Taking her to have a MRI tomorrow, then back to the specialist on thursday.
Mitchellez - So happy for you, I'm doing the Happy Dance :carrot::carrot: Annie - we need to talk about growing lettuce next year. I have the hardest time finding green leaf lettuce. I too have lots of green tomatoes, can't wait to eat them. Happy - I hope you made it on time to Farmers Market. Do bears wonder more at night or during the day? What if you are BBqing does the smell bring them to the house? Laura - has your grass been green at all? Does it go dormant in the summer? I thought it only did that in winter. I guess i would water so it doesn't get so dry & brittle. (fire danger) Mel - I hope you had a good day. I hope you were ablee to make your calls. Ellen, Ceejay & Shad - I hope you all are having a good day! |
Aaargh, it's late and I only just got in. Time for a shower and sleep and hope that no one decides to do some computer work during the night.
I'll try to catch up with you all tomorrow. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz |

You busy, busy woman. Get some rest. Mel Don't blame you forstayiing inside in theis heat. Yep it does get a bit boring. I'm going to clean out my fridge Thursday. Patty Hope things go well with your mom. Sending healing thought her way. Annie I didn't get all the things I wanted to get done last night but will finish them tonight. One of those is to water the front lawn. Enjoy the time at your dad's even thought it will be outside. Ellen How are things in your coner of the world? Happy Any more sightings of the bear? I'm with Annie don't go outside after dark. Michelle When do you start the dream job. Be careful conerning your back. ------ The water usage has gone up since last month. It almost like late July and August. The weather person is thrilled as she has a small pop up thunderstorm to report. Supposed to be 104 today at 4 p.m. |
Morning all. Not a lot of time right now so I'll just say :congrat: to Michelle on getting the job. Patty, I'll say a prayer for your mother.
Probably won't get back until much later or perhaps tomorrow. TTFN! |
quick check in for me to say thanks to all you wonderful ladies!! I start my dream job on 7/16 with two days of orientation.
got some bad news yesterday too, unfortunately, DH has pneumonia again. The pulmonologist wanted to put him in the hospital yesterday, but since our insurance isn't very good, DH convinced the doc to postpone the hospital stay unless he's not doing at least a little better by Thursday. Poor guy. He's so sick and tired of being sick and tired. :( Patty - Sending lots of prayers for your mom. Hopefully we'll get rain today so that some communities can do fireworks. Even if we do get rain, we have high heat warnings through late Friday night. :P Anyway, I'd better get back to work. :) Much love, |
MICHELLE....I FORGOT TO SAY CONGRATULATIONS ON THE NEW JOB.
I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU:dance: HOPE YOU LOVE IT MORE WITH EACH DAY THAT PASSES:dancer: |
Morning all,
We had some storms roll through last night - lots of lightening and everything got a good drink of water. It was worse up in Minnesota - winds of 80 miles per hour and ping pong sized hail in some parts. As the storm moved in I heard things rolling on the deck so I went out to pick up loose stuff like sprinkling cans and such. There were some empty garden pots rolling on the far side of the garage but I was nervous about going out there at dark so I asked DH to "spot me". Turns out he had to pick up some stuff too so he took care of it - pistol in one hand, stuff in the other  We have not "seen" the bear in 2 days but that just means he didn't walk past the spot where we have the camera. I think they forage in the late evening and at night although in the early spring we saw them frequently during the day. We're under a heat advisory the next few days so I doubt we will get much done in the garages because even with the doors open, it's pretty stifling. I went into town yesterday and the Mongolian hoardes are in town for the holiday weekend. Very crowded and people are just plain IGNORANT. Block the aisles, reach in front of you, zoom past as you are trying to carefully back out of the parking space, heaven forbid that people could actually wait their turn or use the phrase "excuse me". And this was true of people of all ages. It was women for the most part as I have to admit the few guys I saw there looked like deer in headlights  There was one family in particular who was frustrating - a young girl holding a baby rocking it back and forth, standing and blocking access to the produce section, cold meat, dairy and juices. At arms length was her mother and close to them was Dad pushing the cart. They stopped all over the store completely blocking access while they casually discussed what they might want to make. They were completely oblivious to anyone trying to shop and believe me, the store was more crowded than I had ever seen it. The carnival last week wasn't as crowded as this  Twice I had to ask these people to move so I could get at what I needed and they barely moved aside. I sure was glad to get out of there and don't plan on going to town until next week. Tourists haven't been as bad as I thought but they sure are awful on the special summer weekends like Memorial Day or Independence Day which brings more in I guess. With it being so hot it would be nice to rent a boat and go on the lake or for an ATV ride but it will be just too crowded. The Farmers Market in town was a big joke. 3 small trucks. One was a guy who bought produce from another place - tomatoes and small potatoes and was reselling it. I know this because he had a sign saying just that. Another truck was 2 ladies selling homemade candles and soaps. And the 3rd truck was a local meat farm selling frozen meats. I did buy some soup bones, 2 steaks, a couple of sandwich steaks, some ground beef patties and some beef soup meat - all which looked nice. I am well stocked for food and should be able to sit in my little slice of heaven and forget about the world for the next week  Ceejay - I would imagine that the water demands would be as high as the electricity usage during these hot times. Keeps you busy, eh? I always felt sorry for the trash pickup men during these hot days - hard work and stinky, stinky garbage cans :snooty: Michelle - congrats on getting the job that you wanted :yay: I hope it will be everything that you want it to be. When are you going to tell your current employer? Annie - that stinks that you had to go into work for not one but two days when you were planning on taking off. :( Hope you can at least enjoy a long weekend. Have fun digging in the garden - don't get sunburned! Mel - glad you had a quiet day. Hope that continues. Will you get to see fireworks over the Hudson? OMG - you are dreaming about more bunnies???? :bunny2: :bunny: :bunny2: :bunny: :bunny2: :bunny: :bunny2: :bunny: :bunny2: :bunny: :bunny2: :bunny: Maybe Ms. Shad's warnings are coming true! Patty - sending some prayers to Mum - hope everything will be ok. Shad - sleep deep and well. Wake up refreshed for round 2. Hello to Ellen who is no doubt working hard on her vacation. Later chicks  |
Hey Girls......
I do not care what Humana wants from me...I am NOT answering emails or phone if it is a Humana call. I AM DONE until Monday the 9th. HAPPY...I know animal humanity is what it is all about but I say SHOOT the BEAR. My son would come and take care of that for you...he is all about shooting anaimals that create havoc. He would even shoot people that create havoc if he didn't have to go to jail...lol CHELLE...so sorry to hear about DH. Do what the doc says and do NOT stray from instruction. He needs to follow instructions from DOC |
Good Giggly wiggly this laptop just pees me off. It posts when I an not ready and moves around when I do not expect it...I am about to shoot it. Lol
Harvested green onions, banana peppers, yellow zuchinni and banana peppers....tomorrow I will HAVE to harvest lettuce and spinach as it is so high it wilil soon turn yukky MELLIE....I wish we had some of our wetness. We are in such a dry spell that there are fire bans everywhere....which mean NO FIREWORKS anywhere. This is just crazy. Reminds me when I was pregnant with my DS in 1988. Terrible. Just between all the worldlies and me....sissy MIGHT be preggers again...planned...wants to get all the diaper stuff over together. We will know by next week. Cannot afford what they have and doing it again...just boggles my mind....I know....please do not preach on their craziness, I get it. Gotta love the babes. Patty...blessings to your momma...hugs CEEG...good giggly wiggly, you are having the unGODly weather we are having...YUK. LAURA....you are busy like me...post when you can. SHADDIE....girl you are always so dang busy with the job...and much frustration...may God bless you with patience. Hello to all the other worldlies. Love and Hugs |
Good Morning...way morning...2 am morning....just cannot sleep. Decided to get up and come out to the living room. This sleep crap just drives me nuts..since I do not do it well....have not done it very good since the first babe was born. Guess I need to get over that. LOL. I think I just need someone to hit me in the head with a hammer at night...yeah right girls get in line for the fun as it is long for that job. lol
Going to see Magic Mike on Saturday with my bestie, Tami. In the morning for the cheaper 5 buck pricel, then doing lunch. Thinking Mexican, since it is right next to the movie theater. That is the movie with my Matthew McConaughey, even tho he got married WITHOUT my consent. I am NOT going into work on Thursday or Friday, I do not care who calls me. Knowing all the numbers that draw me in...I am NOT answering my cell phone. Not that I have really anything planned, but all the chaos going on at work, I do not even want to be there in the mess of things. Hopefully all this crap will soon pass. I just keep my head down and busy and try not to get involved in the bull. 4th of July tomorrow...no fireworks in this county nor any of the rest of Indiana. 2K fine if caught. I just worry about the idiots in the area catching the place on fire. We have already had one incident. Fireworks caught their grass on fire, which then caught their deck on fire, which then caught their house on fire. So far police, fire dept cannot pinpoint it on anyone. Meanwhile the family is displaced for a bit. I may be up all night doing fire patrol just to save my house. Isn't it just crazy that people cannot abide to the fire ban. STUPID. Guess I have babbled enough and should get off of here. Good morning/afternoon to everyone.. Love and Hugs |
Dear Annie,
It is 15 minutes after you posted. I'm up too but this is normal for me as I don't have to get up in the morning. It sounds as if you have so much going on in your head, no wonder your poor body cannot sleep. I think you need to relax, say your prayers, give up to God what you can, identify what you are grateful for and then close your eyes and have peaceful dreams and a restful night. Do this OR I WILL SING YOU A LULLABY and you will never sleep again. I do admit there were times when I said I was going out of town (had a favorite place in the Ozark Mountains at a retreat where there was no cell phone reception). Sometimes I went there, sometimes I just told them I did just so that they would leave me alone. I sincerely believe that you give a company your all and you DESERVE to be left alone on your vacation. Unless you are the senior manager / director getting a 6 figure salary and a 40 percent bonus in which case they are paying to own you. Otherwise leave me alone peeps. Bummer that the dry, hot weather is ruining so many fireworks celebrations. That's the best part of this holiday. Up here it's finally getting warm and smelly. I remember that smell - high humidity and baking head makes the rotting vegetation stink. Our town is having a fireworks display and they are only 4 miles from here. DH is hoping if we sit upstairs and look out the window we can watch from home and avoid the crowds. Anyway pleasant dreams to those already sleeping and fairy sleepy dust to me and Annie but not to Shad who at the moment is still probably dealing with go live or go home... :^: |

Happy July 4th. My first phone call was for a water leak. I can handle those. Please God no power outages today.
Looked on the calendar this morning and next week end is my vacation trip. Can't wait. ------- Annie I have those nights where sleep doesn't exist. Happy had some good advice. Hapyy, I get out of town simply because my boss ives behind me on the next street over. Mel Good for you in getting more sleep. I can take power naps (10 or 15 minutes) in the afternoon but one for two hours or longer and I can't sleep at night. To much like my mom. |
Hi all,
Happy Independence Day http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e6...sa-flag-89.gif Not much going on, I just stepped outside and boy is it hot. There is a small chance of rain in a couple of hours - not sure if it will sidestep us. I will probably straighten up in here and go do a bit of gardening on my herb garden. Annie - hope you got some sleep and you are ignoring the phone, emails and anything other than C. That's surprising about Sissy - don't think it's the best choice for the circumstances right now but people are heck-bent on doing their own thing so one can only hope things work out in the long run. No use fretting about it tho... I totally LOVE your phrase about Matthew getting married without your CONSENT  :lol3: Somehow I think he might not be the easiest person to live with so you are better off with C  Enjoy the movies - it's about time they made something for women to oogle over. Ceejay - I thought it was funny that you have to leave town because there is no faking it with your boss just down the street. My manager in Memphis lived about a mile and a half down the road from me but we travelled in different circles and never ran into each other the 4 years I worked for her - no even in the grocery store we both shopped at. How exciting for your upcoming vacation just around the corner. I hope it's not dreadful hot over there but you are used to it. I see it's hotter in the Nashville area than Memphis, hope the mountains are cooler for you. Mel - I'd say if you took a good nap, you needed it. If the seniors are anything like my Mum, she is getting antsy being cooped up so that can be as troublesome as 2 year olds on sugar. Maybe you need a victory garden so they can keep busy and you don't have to shop so often  Are you getting past the Cipro issues? I guess I should go put on something cool and head on outside. Have a good one ladies. Don't eat too much at the picnics. |
Happy 5th of July -
Sorry I was absent yesterday. I had to do some tech support for a website client, drop DMIL at her sister's while I took a pre-employment drug test for my new job. Then I went to pick up DMIL but stayed and visited for a bit, and then we ran lots of errands. All the towns in SE Wisconsin banned the use of personal fireworks due to how dry everything is, but public displays still went on with most of the communities watering the grounds well before the fireworks went off. Our town and the one nearby did fireworks on Tuesday night and last night, but it was just too dang hot and muggy to sit outside, even that late at night. That's okay though cuz we've got some festivals coming up later this month that will have fireworks. In addition to the heat, we didn't go see fireworks cuz DH is still really sick. He didn't go to work again today...he'll see the doctor later and it's probably 50/50 whether or not he'll get admitted to the hospital. :( Any prayers or healing/get well wishes you can send his way are greatly appreciated. My head is telling me that rain is on the way. In the last few months, my migraines have usually been triggered by changes in barometric pressure...and I've got a doozy today. I'm drinking gatorade and have already taken 2 Excedrin...hopefully they'll kick in soon. And I definitely hope this migraine is right about raining coming our way. The ground needs a really good soaking. Laura's b'day reminded me that I have just 2 months to declutter this house so I can have a party. :yikes: I have REALLY got to get my act together and my arse in gear. It's been so hard doing everything while DH has been sick for most of the past year. I know, that's prolly just a lame excuse. I'm so looking forward to starting my new job, and the shorter commute. I will be able to go home to give the dog her meds at lunchtime if DMIL is visiting her sister. I will be able to go to the gym either before or after work; with my current schedule/commute, I don't get home in time to go to my fave classes. And I won't be so exhausted and grouchy when I get home because I won't have to fight traffic. ======================= Annie - so nice that your veggies are producing so well! I haven't harvested anything yet, but am seeing little green tomatoes, cukes and beans. If Sam is preggers again, Chris really needs to step up to the plate and marry her so she can get insurance. Just me putting my two cents in where it's not asked for or wanted. I can totally understand how you can't sleep. You've got lots on your mind dear sista. I was wide awake early Wednesday morning (from around 1:30 to 3:30) and this is NOT normal for me. Maybe I caught your insomnia, sista. Enjoy the movie and lunch with Tami. :) Laura - Is today your B'Day?! If so, have a very wonderful day!! What are your fun b'day plans? Ceejay - I can imagine how excited you are for your vacation! Good for you!! You deserve to have a wonderful, fun and relaxing time. It's interesting how some people can feel rested after a short power nap. Not me...I need to nap for at least an hour when I'm tired mid-day. Happy - Is it still really hot up there today? it's supposed to be over 100 here, and cool down to the 90s tomorrow. But the weekend is supposed to be very nice, upper 70s/low 80s. Mel - I hope the nap provided some much needed and well deserved rest, and that you have a great day today! Big  to Ellen and Patty! I've gotta get back to trying to figure out what's wrong with my program. :dunno: Much love and many hugs, |
Morning all. Sorry I didn't get here yesterday. Getting in front of the computer isn't too appealing at home - still have the cluttered office issue. I think I forgot to mention that last weekend I spent a couple hours going through some of the paper piles in there, so I felt a bit better, but it's a long way from "done".
Annie - Sorry you had to work Monday and Tues when you'd planned vacay time!! I hope you enjoy Thurs & Fri and no one from the office even tries to contact you. Wow, surprising news about dd planning another baby right away. Aside from the financial practicalities, I'd think if it were me I'd want a longer break between going through all that again... I'd like to see Magic Mike too - just saw the preview for it at the movies last week for the first time, and Matthew M seems perfect for a role in that kind of movie. Looking forward to some good eye candy, lol!! Scary about the fireworks causing the house fire. I was nervous too - you'd think people would be smarter to leave it to the pros this year. Michelle - I'm so sorry to hear dh has pneumonia again. :( I pray he starts feeling better soon and doesn't end up back at the hospital. I'm so happy for you with this new job - so many positives for you. I hope your migraine goes away soon and that you're right about the rain - we all need it badly in our region, and any rain anyone gets is a good thing. Yes, today's my b-day. My inclination with all this ultra hot/humid weather is just to stay inside with the tv and a book, but my friend is coming over late this morning and we'll go out to eat and perhaps see a movie. For dinner, bf will grill. Happy - I had an 8 pack of petunias sitting around for several weeks waiting for me to plant them and yesterday I finally did it. Just put a few in each of 3 planters to fill them out, so it wasn't a big job, but stilll.... I was only out for about 45 min. tops and was in the shade with the mister sprinkler attachment pointed at me, but it was still crazy hot. Were you able to see the fireworks from your 2nd floor window?? How nice for you if so - in the comfort of your home out of the heat/humidity/bugs. Ceejay - Your trip is getting closer - exciting. Just getting away from the usual routine is so refreshing! Please, no power outages!! In our area, a bad storm knocked out power to about 40,000 homes last weekend and it took several days to get it restored to a lot of them - what a horrible thing during this heat. Mel - You must have needed the sleep for that nap to happen, though I do find that a warm stuffy environment helps that sleepy feeling along... Hope your TJ's trip is a good one!! Hellos to Ellen and Patty - hope you both enjoyed your 4th of July holiday. :) === Well, I ended up skipping lunch Tuesday to spend with the software support guy to work through a few issues, and I ended up on the 3:45 train, so I still got out of work a bit early. Whoopee - bf and I went to Walmart. Yesterday I didn't do much of anything - planted the petunias, did a couple loads of laundry. Watched some dvr'd Hallmark movies, finished the end of one book and started another. BF and I went to the village fireworks. It was still nearly 90 degrees at that time, but at least there was a bit of a breeze going so just sitting in a chair sipping water and watching fireworks wasn't too bad. Though I do kind of wish they'd compact them all into 15-20 min. instead of 30. We're not very far from where we watch them, but bf, always trying to get home more quickly, tried a different route home and we got totally caught up in traffic, and in an unfamiliar subdivision so it took us 30 min to get home. Annoying. Another hot day today, so we'll have more indoor time today. It's getting old...but when the weather drops back to the low 90's and then the 80's, it'll feel really refreshing. Okay, gonna get this posted and eat some brekky. Toodles. |
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e6...thdayLaura.jpg
Happy Birthday Laura. Sounds like you are off today and have plans for some fun activities. Funny you talk about working under the mister - I was thinking of doing the same yesterday. Since we have a well pump, don't want to run the water too hard and burn out the pump so a mister would be great. Although the water coming from the well was darn cold  I agree with you that Matthew McConnahey (sp) is just the perfect personality to be in a move like Magic Mike. Nice that the ladies are offered some beefcake for a change  When we first moved to AH we could sit on the corner of our property and watch the MP fireworks from Central. Then the trees grew up :( It was nice that you got out there to see them. As for cutting the show, I'm sure people expect at least 30 minutes of them - they sure would complain if it was a compacted 30 minutes. :rollpin: Have a good birthday! Michelle - not as hot for us temperature wise but mid 90's feels just like 100 here. We have wide open spaces and no wind so the sun intensifies. That's unfortunate that DH has pneumonia again. I guess that shows how serious that illness is. Can't believe they haven't cured him yet. I imagine you will get better insurance with the new job? Mel - enjoy your shopping trip - don't get too tuckered out. It was really hot yesterday and then about 7pm a big wind kicked up and the temperature dropped to a refreshing level. So nice I actually went out and pulled weeds for a while. We had some big storms headed our way but they diverted and went south. We did get a bit of rain overnight, but not much. We didn't wind up going over to see the fireworks - didn't want to deal with the crowds and I guess we had alot of low lying clouds or we just can't see the fireworks from our house because all we saw were flashes in the sky like lightening. I guess alot of places had fireworks because there was noise and flashes in every direction. We thought a storm was moving in at one point but everything mysteriously got quiet about 10:30pm and the flashes stopped as soon as the boom noise did. It's really too hot to do anything during the day time. We both miss the pool at this point although as DH said he does not miss the work that went along with it - mostly trimming trees and sweeping up the never ending pile of pine needles from the surrounding neighbors trees. I've got a letter to drop off at the post office and return 2 pairs of shoes I ordered online but hate to go into town. Also have to dye my hair. We picked up a no contract smart phone from Verizon who is starting to add cell towers out this way. Our AT&T service is non-existent at the house. We are only 4 miles away from the closest cell tower but only get 1 bar at the house unless we sit upstairs in which case we get a weak 2 bars. DH has been on the phone with them for 3 days now. Kind of frustrating but at least I don't have to argue with DH about ditching the land line. Not much else going on, I'm kind of hungry and I'd better get going on some of this stuff nagging at me. Have a good day ladies - especially to those of you enjoying a little hard earned relaxing time. |
