Hi all! I'm an old newbie! I haven't been here in years, but I'm struggling to stay motivated and came back here to get some motivation :)

I've been doing Weight Watchers online, however I haven't been consistent with it. I also just ordered Jillian Michaels Revolution program. I can't wait to get it! Right now I'm walking/jogging and occasionally doing a Zwow workout (zuzana light on fb).

I've struggled for the past 3.5 years, losing the same 4 lbs over and over again.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone! I'm 4' 9", probably one of the shortest here :)

Tara88 05-30-2012 05:22 PM

Hey! I'm new and am 5'1. I plan on getting to my target weight by August. I will be doing spinning every day and hopefully incorporating some swimming and weights to my program. I put on my weight because of medication and bad eating habits so will also have to switch up my medication and eating in order to also maintain my new weight. I miss being and feeling fit so much! I can't wait to start this journey. :carrot:

Dreamer2012 06-01-2012 08:39 AM

Hey fellow shorties :) I'm 5'1 and 142lbs with a target of 119lbs. :) I'll be eating better and exercise at least 6/7 days of the week, starting today!

neon_zephyr 06-02-2012 12:35 AM

Hi everyone. 5'0" here. Even 5 pounds makes a visible difference at this weight, doesn't it? I've got a long way to go, still, and I'm hanging in there even though my motivation is at a low point these days. Glad to find a thread for us short gals.

Hi there!

In my opinion 5lbs can make a visible difference. Whether it's a loss or gain, I think it does show. And in particular on us shorties! I think the taller you are, the more chance of your weight being spread over your body. And with shorter people, they tend to stick in similar places i.e tummy area and probably bum area. My issue is I carry all my weight on my tummy area. Sometimes because you see yourself everyday (that sounds odd :P) it can be difficult to see chances, but others might notice them better. So if I was to gain or loss 5lbs, I would notice the chance by how tight or loose my clothes have gotten as well as the visible chances noticed by others.

KDLayD 06-20-2012 02:36 PM

I have been noticing that a small amount of weight can make a huge difference on shorter people too! My sister (younger of course) is probably 5' 9" and weighs the same as I do, but she looks WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY skinnier because she has more bod. I have lost 4 pounds so far (it's been about a week since I have started) I hope it will become noticeable soon! It's tough to see the weight loss myself, so maybe someone I know will comment on it sometime. Its tough for me, too, because I don't own any full length mirrors, and all the mirrors in my house are so high, that I can only see to my high waist. hhahaha!

i love the sorties!!! <3

100 days of me 06-22-2012 06:29 PM

I'm soo happy I found this thread! I'm 5 foot nothing. I started my journey on May 2nd at a massive 195 lbs. I sort of ate semi-well (good on weekdays and horrible on weekends) and still managed to lose 7 pounds. I'm a size 18 right now. My goal weight would be 115-117 lbs.
I ordered the TapoutXT workout last week. This will actually be a huge challenge going from being ultra sedentary (meaning wake up, go to an office job, come back, watch tv until I go to bed) to fit.
I tried the first DVD and although I loved it, I couldn't do half the moves they were doing. I guess it will be easier once I start losing the weight.

What comforts me a little is that because I'm short, I'll be a lot more curvy when I'm at goal weight than any tall girl could ever dream to be!

MrsH2132012 07-05-2012 01:05 PM

I'm 5'2" on a good day (ha I even forget that my new license says 5'1"!)

tynk82 07-17-2012 11:45 PM

Found this thread tonight and am 5'2" and 163.4.
Time for a big change in a powerful and healthful way. :)
Glad to be a part of the Shorties! It's wonderful to know that the petites of the world aren't forgotten <3

Rose Elizabeth 07-28-2012 07:38 PM

I'm 5ft 2. As several of you have said, only a few pound gain shows so much. But on the plus side when you lose a few pounds it's also a bit more noticeable right? ;) What really annoys me is that my taller friends can eat so much more than me. They're all like 5ft 8 and taller so... they can eat way more than I can.

ZetaMD2Be 08-20-2012 11:21 PM

Hi Everyone! I didn't even make it to 5'0'' -- 4'11'' and standing. LOL. I'm re-starting my weight loss journey today and I'm glad that there's other shorties out there like me!

IsabellaOlivia 09-08-2012 12:14 PM

If I was my weight and 5'9 instead of 5'2 I'd be able to eat close to 250 calories more a day and still lose the same weight every week...

It's a little extra frustrating that just because of our heights we have to consume 200-300 calories a day less than out taller sisters. I mean, it would give us just a little added leeway and just make at little easier if we had a little more to go on.

Maybe we would just be more hungry.

Wyldfyr 09-08-2012 08:52 PM

Oh yay, I found a place with people who are my height!:carrot: lol My name is Danielle and just signed up a few days ago. Starting myself on this new chapter in my life to make myself more fit and thinner. Nice to meet you all! :)

IsabellaOlivia 09-24-2012 08:28 AM

I've seen lots of pictures of people at goal weight weighing 140+ pounds and they look a lifetime more fit and healthy than I do at this weight.

FunSize 09-24-2012 01:02 PM

Where does everyone buy clothes at? I just now discovered Kohls has a petite department with a few options for misses. I saw some Jennifer Lopez jeans and Apt 9. The section is so tiny I never even noticed it before! But now at least I have options there =D
I normally buy A.N.A Jeans at JC Penney in the petite department.

I checked out the petite department in Macy's and at first glance it was ALL .. OLD LADY stuff.. like.. for 70 year old women "tailored" clothing look. GRRR!!
Maybe I missed it but I didn't see any "hip" petite clothes in Macy's??

As I drop weight I am becoming more concerned with the way I dress.. which is a good thing!!! Just want to know what options are out there for shorties who aren't old ladies yet lol

Kopuiylopiu 10-25-2012 02:30 PM

Hello fellow shorties! I'm 5' and at my highest weight right now :( 145 last time I weighed myself. It's hard being short, ha. The smallest amount of weight on me just looks like a lot more. Can't wait to get down to size :)

Started off at 142lbs back in June and the same height as yourself. Even though I've only lost 10lbs, everyone says it looks like I lost a lot more. I'm down one dress size! Even the smallest amount of weight makes a big difference to us short ladies.

BrownEyedVeggie 11-15-2012 03:07 PM

I'm proud to say that I am 5'2" too. There are many advantages to being petite including but not limited to the ability to wear any heel height without having to worry about being considered too tall. I typically wear 3.5" because higher heels=slimmer appearance.

My only hiccup about being short is at the gym. I find that some of the equipment is designed for people 5'5" and above. Even the jump ropes are gads too long. I walk by some of the machines because they are not workable while others I am able to use pillows and prompts to make them work for me.

Dreamer2012 11-16-2012 05:04 AM

I don't use the gym but I always wondered would I have difficulty reaching the machines. Does anyone else have this problem?

happynottsgirl 11-18-2012 03:53 AM

Hello all,

I'm 5'1.5" and currently at 137.6 lbs. My BMI is a bit over 25 so I am still overweight. My first goal now is to get to 134 and no longer be overweight. Then hopefully get into the 120s fast. I was able to get to 125 about 2 years ago, and I looked ok but it was obvious that I need to go lower to be thin.

I currently work out at the gym, try to eat somewhat modrately and use alli. I have to get my diet under control in order to lose faster.

Dreamer2012 11-18-2012 05:10 AM

happynottsgirl, look at how far you've come already! From 167 to 138 :) Well done! Best of luck on the rest of your journey.

Since happynottsgirl mentioned about losing fast, how does everyone else lose? Fast, normal, slow? I'm lose really slow! I lost 12lbs from November to February last year and then my weight just stalled until the summer. Then I lost 10lbs from June to now. I wouldn't mind but I wasn't even trying or looking at the scales when I lost the first 12lbs. :p

Hi there,

I've noticed that I lose faster when I do strength/weight training. A lot of people have the same experience.

It all depends on where you are in your journey, when I was at my heaviest (category obese) I lost really fast by just doing a lot of walking and eating healthy. I remember I put on a Walk away the pounds (Leslie Sansone) DVD and I was sweating as if I were doing a marathon. It was an eye-opener because I had been a really fit person prior to that. But the good thing about being so unfit is that simple exercise is really effective for starting your weight loss.

Another time I lost weight steadily by doing treadmill for 90 minutes nearly every day, this was couple with some weight training. Of course, at that time I had a really flexible work arrangement. Treadmill time can be so therapeutic too! Just thinking and thinking without worrying too much about yuor surroundings.

I think since you are so close (122?) it will be very slow, and I would focus instead on inches and strength training.

Yeah, I definitely think this is why it has always been really slow. When I started back in June at 142lbs, I was half way overweight so it wasn't like I needed to lose a tonne of weight to be considered a healthy weight. Now that I'm getting nearer to a healthy weight (127 for my height), it does seem to be going more slower.

Josiee 12-08-2012 09:17 AM

First time seeing this thread; this may help me put things in perspective. Yay, I'm between 5 1 and 5 2.

When reading other threads where someone is say 5 5 and 180 lbs and a size 6, I'm like how does that happen at 170 lbs I was size 16, how can someone around the same weight be 10 sizes smaller...not fair. Guess being a few inches taller really allows you more. lol :chin:

Dreamer2012 12-09-2012 11:46 AM

Isn't it so unfair Josiee! :p Even if I was 142 again and around 5'5, I would be in a healthy weight range. But for my height of, it was middle of the scale of overweight! If I was 130 and 5'5, I would have a BMI of 21.6. For my height to have that BMI, I need to be 112! It really is a big difference.

Amylou3279 01-09-2013 08:58 AM

Hi all! My name is Amy and I'm new here..I'm stretching it by saying I'm 4'11" but I'm atleast 5'1" when I wear my big girl heels lol. After 10+ years of doing the 9-5 I quit my job, moved 1000 miles away from home for my husbands job and have spent the majority of my free time cleaning and cooking...and eating. Since March of 2012 I have gained 42 pounds. I have decided to put down the cookbook and hit the gym instead. I weighed in at 186 and I'm pushing myself to get down to 130-ish. I'm really big chested and never lose up top. I would love to be 110lbs but any smaller than 130lbs and I look way too dispreportioned. Good luck to everyone and keep up the good work. I am a calorie counter and am excited to check out sparkpeople. Thanks for the info. I'm off to the gym. Make it a great day!

chubbiegurl 01-28-2013 02:14 AM

Amylou I had to stop using all recipes as my cook book, being a housewife I started cooking elaborate unhealthy meals. A lot of creamy meals.I also would make cookies, pretzels and breads. Now I have my elliptical in my kitchen/living room. So I am still kinda in the kitchen but working out.
Ok glad I found this thread, it's hard to see the tall girls and seeing the higher goal weights. When I realized a healthy bmi was at 136 for me I was so nervous I might actually only be 5"1 though. But just made it exactly to 5'2 lol. So I get to hang out with all my shorties.
I like my height, just don't like how any weight gain makes my legs look short. I have avoided boots for so long cause they made my legs appear shorter. Can't wait to buy a pair of uggs now. Ha ha sorry I am all over the place.

Bex1984 02-27-2013 02:11 PM

5'1.5 here! And yeah...every lb counts when you're this height.

I'm currently a size 12 at 148. I have a pair of jeans that I know I wore last July that are size 8 when I weighed 140 and right now I can't get them past my thighs!!!! Its actually my goal, to make that particular pair too big for me.

My weight hangs around my tummy, upper arms, thighs and lower back (baby got back!).

irish51 02-27-2013 03:47 PM

Hi !

I had not seen this thread before. I am exactly 5'. I have friends that are all very tall. If they gain 10 lbs, no one notices. If I gain 10 lbs, I go up an entire size.:^:

tiawyn 03-06-2013 09:29 PM

Hello, I just discovered this thread, was thinking about creating my own but wanted to make sure that this existed already. It seems like this thread is kinda quiet. IMO it would be awesome to have a "shorties" sub-group because this thread is kind of hard to find. But yeah, I'll be back if someone else is back here.

Savemykissesx 03-11-2013 11:46 AM

It does seem a little quiet here, I am also a shorty.. I am around 5'1 and I weigh 180 right now, my goal weight for now is 135, and it may go down as I get a little closer, but 135 sounds amazing.

I have NEVER been skinny, EVER. I have always been chubby, my whole entire life. I have no idea what it feels like to be skinny or even "healthy," and I feel like this is the hardest lifestyle change ever... adding all of this exercising and everything in when it's never been apart of your lifestyle before, ever.

It seems like I'm probably the only one on here that has the most to lose, looks like everyone else is getting real close to their goals -- anyone have any advice to give? I really could use some advice and support.. definitely.

Healthy meals, healthy snacks? Exercises, etc? Routines?

I am just basically trying to eat a salad with almost every dinner, and also trying to eat more veggies than ever before, and going with more FRESH veggies than the frozen veggies I used to buy..

Crow 03-13-2013 07:01 PM

Hey Shorties, it's great to find this thread! I hope it's starting to be a little bit busier so we can motivate and encourage each other.

Savemykissesx, I have about the same amount as you to lose so we can keep each other on track. I'm still breastfeeding so I'm aiming for a loss of about 1lb per week, how about you? So far I'm concentrating on trimming portion sizes, cutting out unhealthy snacks and upping my activity levels a little. I'll probably add some more active exercise once I'm closer to my goal. How about you?

I love salad and fresh veggies. Sadly, I also love cake.

neon_zephyr 03-14-2013 07:04 PM

It would, indeed, be good to see more activity on this thread! :)

I'm still hanging in there. I've lost and then gained and lost and gained and I'm still struggling with balancing life stress and obligations with exercise. I do better at the exercise when I am living alone than I do when around family because then, it's like the holidays with lots of lounging and food and family and caretaker responsibilities. I always want to get to the gym, but by the time 8pm rolls around, I'm so exhausted I can't manage. I'm trying, though. If I can just manage to stick to it five times a week, I think it would help me. These days, I'm only managing twice a week. :(

The topic of clothes (raised earlier) is an interesting one. As a shortie, I find that I have to tailor clothes, often. I wear dresses and blazers or suits for work, mostly (easy to find at department stores) and jeans or loungey pants with tees at home. I hope that once I lose enough weight, I will stop wanting to reach for my pajamas when I'm at home. Lately, I'm at home more often than not and I never dress up enough. That's another reason I've lost sight of my body awareness, I think....

Crow 03-17-2013 09:09 AM

Zephyr, I'm finding that I have the same issues with clothes. After my LittleMan was born last July I spent a lot of time in pyjamas -- my nice clothes didn't fit and it was just easier for breastfeeding.

I refuse to buy any more than I have to in big sizes, so I'm left with just a few pieces that fit and two wardrobes full of clothes that don't. When I'm at home I still tend to default to pyjamas much too often.

That'll change for both of us soon, I hope.

Savemykissesx 03-19-2013 12:13 PM

Crow - I am also aiming for about 1lb a week, I just want to see the number going down -- I am not going too too crazy, I am just upping my exercise, making sure I am doing atleast SOMETHING every day. I have been going to the gym, and this is really only my "third week" but only my second week back at the gym. I've lost 4lbs so far and it feels good!! :) I am also eating MORE salads and veggies, AND cutting down my portion sizes. And of course snacking on fruits... delish!! :)

I also refuse to buy any more pants in a bigger size, because I'm thinking (hopefully) they won't fit very long at all! At work I have to wear loungey pants, like yoga pants, etc, which are very comfortable, and usually get into pajamas when I get home, I don't have much reason to change into dressy clothes or to get dressed up unless I am going somewhere.. either.

emurph 03-19-2013 12:17 PM

Hey, just found this thread! I'm 5ft no inches and sooooo close to no longer being overweight for this height.

Happy to meet you guys! I'm using LoseIt.com and their app to track calories and am in love with my FitBit One. I am getting more and more convinced that I need to start some serious weight lifting though to tone up. I have a most fantastic bit of stomach flab over my c-section scar which I doubt will ever go away without surgery, but I'm going to try my hardest to make it shrink some.

Crow 03-20-2013 05:53 AM

Savemykisses, I'm finding it much harder to add exercise in to my lifestyle than I did to change my eating habits. I'm just not naturally active -- much prefer a book and a roaring fire to a walk any day! I'm trying, though. 4lbs in 2 weeks is great, and I bet it looks like even more if you're toning at the same time.

Looks like you've pretty much made it to your goal, emurph! I bet you can make a big difference with toning even if you never have the belly of a 17-year-old again. I feel that way about my chest -- after breastfeeding 4 babies there's no way the girls will ever be perky again, no matter how much weight I lose.

valid28 03-24-2013 12:42 PM

Hi I am 5 feet even and glad to join you ladies here. I'm looking to make it to 130 and then I will evalute how much more if any to lose. I think I may just have to really start toning and see where that gets me. I really need to see 130 on the scale because that was my goal when I started trying to lose weight. I need to see it through to the end without settling for close enough once in my life. I am just imagining how powerful I will feel on that day.

jordy 03-24-2013 01:04 PM

Hi, folks. Another shortie here. 5'1" and dumpy.... look like a Weeble! Oh, how I want to succeed this time!
