Renaissance- Hi and I love the nickname "fun-sized" people!!!

After a week and a half the cravings are getting better. Baby steps!

FatPantsSkinnyJeans 01-13-2011 06:34 PM

Hi Shorties!

It's FREEZING here too, under 30F every day :(

However, I've discovered Bikram Yoga (which is lovely and warm and grossly sweaty) and I'm managing to drag myself to the gym in a parka and 2 pairs of pants. Gotta do what you gotta do, fashion forward or not.

I'm focusing on a wedding that I am a bridesmaid in ... it's very far away (in July, in fact) but the dresses are tiny and the cameras are aplenty. I want to look and feel fabulous! Two of the other bridesmaids and the bride are shorties, too. hehehe :)

teacher1
--It is SO tempting, I agree. But, I can always talk myself out of it with the whole "Don't waste money on that, you have food in the fridge" mentality. Might help?

brokengently-- IMHO, drugs and supplements can be tempting, but are a temporary fix. They can also do scary things to your liver and kidneys. In the long run, we have to find a way to be motivated to feed our bodies good stuff, and to make exercise a regular part of our routine. Easier said than done, for sure.

worktobedone00
-- Don't minimize your accomplishment, that's great!! 2lbs and a diet change is a HUGELY successful week :)

Chrztina
-- Good plan! You can always come here for motivation, distraction, venting, anything!

TheCandes
--Hahah, love it. I sometimes do squats down the hall at work when I'm cold. Whatever works for ya.

Renaissance-- Congrats on avoiding the soda! That's a huge step, and will help you with your loss tremendously. Keep it goin'!

Well, fellow little ones, I'm off to Yoga. Chat soon!

Hi all,

5'1'' here and 155 lbs, trying to get to 110-120 by June

I'm done being overweight. I am currently shopping around for a nice gym around my work, since I think I will stick to exercising more if I go in the morning before work (compared to at night once I go back home -- I'm always SOOOO tired...)

I am giving myself this weekend to get organized and plan my diet and workout routine, and then on Monday I will start with tracking calories and exercise. I am actually considering to buy a BodyBugg or GoWear Fit to help with tracking.

My biggest fear is falling off the wagon and give up. I would love to have at least one "buddy" to correspond with and share thoughts, tips, progress, advice etc.. and to compare and contrast diet and exercises. I just started a 3FC blog that I am planning to update with my food and my exercise and my progress. If anyone is interested, please let me know.

Chrztina 01-14-2011 10:41 AM

Purplepumpkin- I was thinking about buying a BodyBugg or Go Wear Fit too. I looked into them extensively two days ago. I need something to keep me motivated, especially during the winter months.

I have a free gym here at my office, but have never used it because it would require me coming into work earlier and thus paying someone to watch my kids before they go to school (not to mention waking them up earlier). During the warmer months, when there is more daylight we can get out of the house and stay active after school.

I do have the Wii, so I should really be using that more.

Anyways, I'll be your "buddy". We are about the same weight and you've only got me beat on height by an inch.

This site is helping me! I came on here this morning because I really want a donut or bagel that my company provides for free every Friday morning. How do you say no to free food?!? Instead of caving, I made some green tea and visited 3FC, while my coworkers wen to eat.

purplepumpkin 01-14-2011 02:40 PM

Good for you Chrztina! I know, it is really hard to resist to free food -- I get a lot of free food with work (I eat out with clients or my staff almost every day! And everything goes on company expenses...) but I am trying really hard to change that or at least get healthier habits (I am the boss in my tiny little firm, so I can choose what to bring in eg. for staff meeting -- I already switched that from bagels and donuts to bagels and fresh fruit, and I try to limit myself to half a bagel and some fresh fruit). Thanks for agreeing to be my buddy. I will post my days on my blog, feel free to drop by and leave a comment or to PM me whenever you want.. -- do you have a 3FC blog?

teacher1 01-14-2011 08:03 PM

Hi shorties!!! Treats at work are a problem area for me too. I'm so glad that it's a 3 day weekend. Tomorrow is weigh in day for me...

teacher1 01-15-2011 10:38 AM

I'm at 214 this morning. That is a solid 4 pounds gone this week. I'm super happy with my progress. My first mini goal is 210 by 1/29.

Chrztina 01-15-2011 01:12 PM

teacher1- 4 pounds is awesome! Woot. Woot!

purple - no I don't have a blog. I don't think I'd have much to say on it. I'll have to check out your blog and others.

My official weigh in isn't until Monday morning, but I stepped on the scale this am just to see where I was hitting and I saw that I was in the 140s. Just barely, but I'll take it. Hoping for a little more by Monday.

Have a good weekend!

MissLizz 01-15-2011 07:31 PM

I am also new here; but the name of this caught my eye :) I am 5 foot even and at 152 pounds :( I used to be 120 before children, which is what I am aiming for now. :) However; I am kinda clueless on this loosing weight thing. I am very open to how anyone is doing it.

WeightForMe 01-16-2011 05:16 PM

Welcome misslizz! I'm doing calorie counting seems to be working for me. Everyones different tho! Just stay focused! Good luck!

purplepumpkin 01-16-2011 06:59 PM

I am also doing calorie counting. I am officially starting tomorrow, but I did take the weekend to sort of do a "try-out" by sticking to 1600 calories divided over 5 smallish meals (Breakfast 400, Lunch 500, Snack1 150, Snack 2 150, Dinner 400) .. it's working REALLY well so far, I am not feeling hungry at all!!!

teacher1 01-16-2011 07:00 PM

hi MissLizz- I'm also calorie counting and working out 6 days a week

I'm so happy that it's a 3 day weekend.

theCandEs 01-17-2011 11:08 PM

Well, I upped my carbs a bit, but my overall calories are still pretty low, according to Fitday. I have to go to the store tomorrow, definitely. I've run out of everything. I should have gone today, of course, but my kids were off from school, so we did a major overhaul of the toy/bedroom. Moved my oldest back into his own room. He was so happy. They were sharing a room because my youngest was scared to sleep by himself. He's seven now, and I think he can handle it. He wasn't really thrilled about the situation, though. He really liked having his older brother in there. Oh, well. It needed to be done. That "toy room" was getting out of hand.

P.S. I've lost all this weight and I've only gone down 1 size!! My size 14 pants are really baggy, but I just can't get into the 12s. Ugh! Very frustrating.

brokengently 01-18-2011 03:34 AM

Hello shorties!

I've been very bad lately, exceeding my calorie range and not exercising. I've managed to hold on to my weight for which I'm thankful for. But I really need to start working hard for my Valentine's goal! Reading the posts here inspire me :)

teacher1 - Congrats~ you are doing really great!! You'll make that goal for sure ^ ^

FatPantsSkinnyJeans - You are right... I've tried diet pills before and yet the weight creeps back in =/ I don't know why I'm still tempted from time to time... the fad here now is slimming coffee and I'm just relieved because I don't drink coffee... but I was so close to giving in!

purplepumpkin - I will follow your blog... Since I started blogging (and posting in 3FC), I've lost 12lbs... you can see from my first entry that I was 156lbs back in November. 2 months later, I am 144lbs. It is very effective for me... even if most of the time, I am just whining ha ha!

Welcome MissLizz!!! You came to the right thread... :)

I used to have a problem with free food until I started saying no... even if I really want the food, I just say "no" and got used to it. Eventually, people stopped offering food to me because they knew I'd say no! It's different when the food is in the communal table though and you are free to take what you want... sometimes I still get tempted... =/

My goal is to lose 1 lb this week. I am really taking things slow now because I can feel myself so close to slipping and going back to old habits :( I don't know why... sigh.

Amber1011 01-18-2011 04:00 AM

Hello fellow shorties! So, I received a shock that I don't quite believe yet. I have been 5'0" forever, but my new doc says I'm actually 5'1 3/4". I'm skeptical, but I'm averaging myself to 5'1" lol. Well at least I keep my shorty identity! Although weight loss wise, Its sooooooo not fun. :p

It's 4 am here and I'm totally starving but still trying not to snack. Hopefully I'll fall asleep sometime too lol

teacher1 01-18-2011 06:56 PM

Hi Amber!

theCanEs- yesterday must have been cleaning day. We went through a bunch of stuff and deep cleaned. So we probably burned some extra calories!!

brokengently- I'm sure you'll be in the 12's soon. I have so many different sizes in my closet it's really sad.

WeightForMe 01-20-2011 10:30 PM

Welcome any short newbies! shorbies? LOL i dont know.. I haven't posted anything in a while so thought id pop up again...

thecandes- i know how you feel with the pants situation. I've lost 15 and barely notice any difference in my pants.

brokengently- For some reason i felt like the more weight i lose the more i wont want to eat like i used to but i've noticed the past 2 weeks its getting harder. I'm really craving something greasy. I'm scared i'm gunna crack too!

Amber1011- hehe sometimes after dinner if i'm still really hungry i try to go to sleep so i won't eat..thats so awful now that i think about it

As for me...been stuck at 158 for over a week. Not sure why. I hope it drops at least 1lb at saturdays weigh in...

theCandEs 01-21-2011 12:47 AM

Weight for me - I get stuck for long periods of time at one weight, then it starts moving again. Try not to panic. :)

teacher1 -- Yeah, I guess it's early spring cleaning, or maybe feeling overwhelmed by all of the new toys from Christmas. I don't know. Maybe we did get some exercise in! My back did hurt the next day. LOL

Amber1011 - I'd go with it! If you don't believe it, try measuring yourself at home.

brokengently - I know what you mean. I've feel like I'm slipping back into old habits. I don't want that to happen! I'm the only one here at my house who is dieting. Of course, I cook dinner, so they have to go with what I make, for the most part. ;)

I think the problem for me is, I started this "diet" to get healthy. I was having some blood sugar issues, and I wanted to get it under control. Well, I did. My fasting blood sugar is now 84 (that's really good, BTW). Now, it feels like I've relaxed my standards a bit. I've been eating things I shouldn't, and I'm having high blood sugar symptoms again (headache, drowsiness after meals that have too many carbs (for me, at least)). I need to get back on track.

teacher1 01-22-2011 10:57 AM

theCandEs- the whole blood sugar thing must make dieting more difficult

I moved my tracker down 1 pound. I guess since last week it was 4 pounds then it should not be a surprise that it was so low this week. I'm still hoping to get my mini-goal of 210 by the end of the month.

WeightForMe 01-31-2011 11:56 AM

How is everyone?!

Chrztina 02-02-2011 10:16 AM

Sick, but still losing!

It's been pretty quiet on this thread.

I'm hanging in there, losing weight slowly but surely! I've been sick since Saturday, and although I've still been eating small meals, I'm concerned that I will gain once I'm over this cold/virus.

I hope you all are doing well!

j0lamo01 02-02-2011 03:33 PM

WeightForMe- Hi I am 5 ft too! I am glad there are other short girls who are just like me.

WeightForMe 02-02-2011 10:40 PM

Chrztina- ughh being sick is the worst. It makes me want to curl up and eat comfort food all day. Glad you have more willpower than me hehe

j0lamo- HI! Are you starting at 176? that's almost where i was when i started too. Even a small amount of weight makes a big difference on us shorties

purplepumpkin 02-03-2011 08:42 AM

My first week on my diet was horrible -- I restricted my calories at the beginning of the week, and ended up binging towards the end of the week, so i ended up being almost 160 when I had an initial weigh in at the gym I just joined. So, I changed my goals slightly, considering the weight gain. So now I have almost 50 lbs to lose.

But last week was better. And this week is going great (although I ate way too many Chinese candies yesterday), I even made it to the gym Sun, Mon, Wed and today. So excited. I can't wait for my weigh in on Monday!!!!!!

How's everyone else doing?

MellowJello 02-04-2011 12:37 AM

I'm joining! I'm 5'1" and my extra 25 pounds have added SO MUCH to my frame :(

Linsy 02-04-2011 12:41 AM

Hi everyone, mind if I join in? I'm 5'2 and I often become jealous over taller people's weight goals. I want to be able to be at a normal weight at 160lbs, it would give me less to lose!

WeightForMe 02-04-2011 10:43 PM

Welcome aboard girls!

Lisa1971 02-11-2011 11:03 AM

New here and saying Hi!

I am so happy to have found this group. I never join anything on the internet but as I am getting older (just turned 40) I find that being under 5 feet tall is becoming such a novelty to other people around me! There is so much more to me than my height (or others' perceived lack of). Also, I have been on hormone replacement therapy for over 2 years now and find that maintaining a "normal" weight is nearly impossible and losing is beyond an uphill battle. I feel like Sisyphus, doomed to forever roll the rock uphill only to have it roll back down again, except my rock is these same 10 pounds. What further frustrates me is the whole BMI thing - I started off on a weight loss regime on January 23rd. At the time, I was 126.5 pounds. According to the BMI, at 4'11" I was overweight. I have worked hard to get down to my current weight of 121 and now I am just within the "healthy" range, but on the high side of it. I know that I am short but holy cow! Even at 126 pounds, I still wore a 6 petite, yet was "overweight." I know, I know. The BMI is meant to be a health indicator, not looks or vanity, but it still hit me hard. I know that I probably will not look the way I did when I was 25 and 103 pounds but I think 115 or so is realistic. Yet, it still seems a heavy goal weight to me at just under 5 feet tall. Thanks for letting me vent and let me know what you guys think of a realistic goal weight!

WeightForMe 02-17-2011 10:24 PM

Hey Lisa! welcome! The whole BMI thing frustrates me as well. I just cant even imagine myself and the "healthy" weight it says i'm supposed to be. I'm big boned :D

Laneyy 02-26-2011 01:27 PM

Damn that extra half an inch. I'm 5'2 1/2". :(

lauriebug81 02-26-2011 03:44 PM

Hi everyone!

I am another shortie and I have a lot of weight to lose. I just started 5 weeks ago yesterday and I am very excited about my progress.:^:

srego909 02-26-2011 03:57 PM

we can do this!

:)Hi. I'm 5'2" & people think I'm nutty because I am concerned about 4lbs that found me..again. 4lbs means pants might not fit. So I've tossed the Nutella & drk choc PB - too dangerous to have in house. I am prepping soups & meals - I will look hot this summer!

dilynnlew 02-26-2011 04:04 PM

Add me to the mix! I am only 5'2" and every pound shows! I had been maintaining my loss at 115...then gained a few pounds last summer and am still struggling to get back to 115. I look and feel better there than at my present 120-123 pounds! Every day is a battle!

Jewels 03-13-2011 02:15 PM

I think I might be the shortest one here, I'm 4'10.5 lol, have to count every little bit!

This is my 2nd week of this new lifestyle. I'm not dieting, I'm eating healthy, exercising every day, and feeling incredible! I have a long way to go, but this time it's different. I have a huge support group and my attitude is different.

I don't put much stock in either the BMI or modern clothing sizes when it comes to us shorties. I'm just a little taller than you and according to the BMI I was at a healthy weight when I reached 130 pounds. Did I feel or look healthy at that weight? I did not. To me someone at a healthy weight looks slender and toned with a flat stomach and slim legs. At 130 pounds I was pudgy. My mid-section did not really begin to slim down until I got below 125 pounds. Yet, at 128 pounds I was wearing a loose size four, and at 118 pounds, a zero. After that I began shopping in the kids' (and by that I don't mean juniors) department. It's not fun to be fifty years old and wearing clothes meant for fifth graders, especially since I still have weight to lose.

I used a different system than the BMI to calculate my goal weight. Take 100 pounds for a five foot woman and add five pounds for each inch over. So that gave me 105 to which I added another five pounds because I'm large framed according to all the usual tests.

Hi! I'm just a little bit shorter but not by much. :D

Ekicna 03-23-2011 08:16 PM

Hi everyone! I'm 5'2 and trying to get down 115, ideally 110.

MarriedLadyTara 03-28-2011 06:05 PM

Hi all. I'm new here. I'm only 4'9", which is pretty damn short. I have A LOT of weight to lose, and it's pretty daunting. Still, I'm down almost 30 pounds since October, and I'm plugging away!

Ekicna 03-28-2011 06:22 PM

Great job with the weight loss Tara!
