Lest any of you get the wrong impression about my banter with Michelle... In professional football, the Chicago team is the Bears and in Milwaukee, it's the Packers. There has always been a friendly rivalry between the two teams and the two cities. Although I think the world of Michelle, it just pains me to see her as a Packers fan And being witty as she is, you can see she is quite able to lob a volley back to me with the best of 'em

Happy - I chose not to comment on Michelle's choice of garb in the photo, LOL! I thought the comments between you two were friendly and got a chuckle from your back and forth, but I'm not sure I agree that in general the rivalry is friendly!

Annie - Hope you get to leave work early this afternoon and have a safe and early start to your weekend! You can definitely come on up and help w/ my sewing project. I couldn't find any brown fleece mittens in the stores, so I thought I'd try to sew myself a pair...

Cheers!

Morning all,
Sorry I have been missing in action for a bit, but what action it has been. Up and down ladders, counting, picking up, receipting in, putting away, redesigning part of the warehouse and generally doing all the things I was NOT employed to do. One way or another these people will be dragged into the 21st century.
Add to the long hours at work, I have been to two farewell dinners this week. A friend has landed a contract in NZ and my nephew and wife have departed Melbourne to live in Cairns. Good luck to both of them.

Today we are going to see the Penguins down at Philip Island. I know Michelle will be aiming for my head right about now. I promise to take as many photos as I can and let you see them.

This is short and sweet because I only have an hour before R picks me up and I am yet to be showered and dressed and ready to go.

Mel - so sorry to hear of the sciatica. Heat pads and pain relief - the only thing that go rid of it for me when I was pregnant - and walking as well, but I can't suggest that you take a hike can I? Oh and happy birthday Jen.

Michelle - congrats on the weight loss. I know you can do this and Annie has challenged you anyway. I hope the prize for making it is one of her dinners.

Hello Laura, Ceejay, Happy (and happy birthday to the DH) Welcome to to the next bit of interesting life.

Gotta go. I'll be back later when I can.

Howdy chicks,

That's funny - most of you go away for the weekend - at work posters I guess - and I have less time during the week so here I sit with the echoes in the room

Mel - glad you're feeling a little better. Sciatica takes it's own sweet time to recover and what a pain the road to health is. I guess you need a hot pad on your feet to warm you up from the ice on your back We eagerly await some tips from the new diet book when you get a chance to review it. Like your Love Bug car.

Ceejay - should have electric. It's gray and damp here but at least we're not getting 30 inches of snow like Washington DC. Maybe she's just sleeping in this morning or the alarm has taken over her PC.

Shad - I am amazed - up and down the ladders, in the shop - you are a real hands on gal when it comes to demo'ing how to use the new software, aren't you? I do hope you had a wonderful trip to see the Penquins, I know I'm not the only one who wishes she could be along for the ride with you!

Laura - you comment about making your own mittens reminded me about a long ago project in high school sewing class where we made our own quilted oven mitts. Sewing it was easy but when it came time to turn it inside out so the seam was on the inside, what an ordeal! I hope yours goes better, fleece should be easier to work with. We went to a place in the Ozarks where they do hand crafted things like they did in the late 1800's. There was this woman making amazing quilts in one shop. She looked to be in her mid 70's. Said it wasn't hard to do, just tedious. I thought it might be fun if only I could see those tiny stitches! Hope your project comes out well - as well as your tax return.

Michelle - did you get your brat for lunch yesterday? DH wants wings for tomorrow's superbowl game, easy to get from down the street and easy for me to resist. That's great that you set goals with your trainer and can follow through with them through Red Balloon's challenge. Hope you have a nice time at the Pet Expo.

Hope you have a good visit with Mom Annie.

Tonight we are going to Ruth's Chris Steak House for DH's BD. It's a very nice restaurant. I intend to have a glass of wine When we come home I might give him a hot rock massage because after all, it's his birthday and all

Have a good weekend - it goes too quickly and for those doing Superbowl Sunday - don't over indulge and enjoy the game.

Default Broccoli with Lemon Garlic Crumbs

Before I forget (again), here's the recipe for the delicious broccoli. Just don't get too crazy with the garlic like I did. And the first time I made it, I loved the breadcrumbs so much that the next time I added alot more. It was a case that too much spoils the pot. Also this calls for Panko bread crumbs. Those are Japanese style light, coarse breadcrumbs that work better in this dish than the traditional finely grated breadcrumbs in the canisters at the store. If you have a food processor and you are adventurous, you can make your own breadcrumbs which are just incredible tasting. Heat the oven to 400 degrees. Put several slices of bread of your choice on a non stick pan. You can sprinkle some seasonings on the bread if you like - garlic powder, parsley, etc or add it later. Let the bread toast for 5 to 10 minutes. Keep an eye on it. You want it to harden but not get real brown. Remove from oven, toss in the food processor and pulse to crumbs of your desired texture. You can also add seasonings in at this point too if you wanted and mix them in. I could not believe how delicious these crumbs were. I guess it's because - duh - you are using FRESH bread

Anyway - here's the recipe - enjoy.

Broccoli with Lemon-Garlic Crumbs2 points per serving
Serves 4
Prep time - 5 minutes
Cook Time - 6 minutes

Ingredients -
1 pound broccoli florets broken into bite size pieces. I also cut the stalks up too
1 tablespoon butter
1 to 2 good sized cloves minced garlic - I like the pressed garlic instead of garlic bits
1/2 cup Panko or coasely ground bread crumbs
1 tablespoon lemon zest (don't skip this, it really adds flavor)
1/4 teaspoon salt

Cooking Instructions -
Bring 1 inch of water to a boil in a large pot. Place broccoli in a steamer basket and set over water. Cover pot and steam broccoli until tender-crisp, about 5 to 6 minutes. Drain. Or you can cook the broccoli in the microwave if you like.

As the broccoli is cooking, melt butter in a medium sized non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and cook until fragrant - about 30 seconds. If using chopped garlic be careful it does not burn. Add bread crumbs and cook, stirring often until lightly toasted - about 2 to 3 minutes.

Remove skillet from heat. Stir in lemon zest and salt.

Spoon broccoli into serving bowl and toss with the crumb mixture. Yields about 1 cup of broccoli and 2 tablespoons of crumbs per serving.

Notes: you can find Panko crumbs in the Asian/ethnic aisle in the grocery store. This recipe is also good with spinach or kale. The bread crumb mixture can be used for oven frying chicken or fish.

Sorry I've been mia. I've worked yesterday and today for a co-worker. I start my shift tomorrow. It's been a long week.

Happy
The broccoli recipe sounds good. And happy birthday to your DH. I've decided that after a doctor's visit on Thursday that I need to have a no soda zone, and for three good reason's, caffiene, phosphoric acid and now the carbonation. Why do they have to taste so good!!!!!

Mel
I did have the feeding freenzie but I'm blaming that on the snow and full moon. I'm back to my almost normal self. Even brought my portable pedals to work with me today. Good for you in posting the sign. I was also concerned about all the snow headed your way. Brrr on the ice pack.

Hello all. Bf and I had a nice meal w/ his mother for her b-day. It's a small friendly restaurant and the chef came out to say hi. We all ate wonderful minestrone soup and lobster ravioli in vodka sauce. No leftovers - both mumsy and I gave bf our last pieces of ravioli, who ate his whole entree and our 2 extra pieces. The chef gave us 3 mini cannoli for dessert. Yum.

I spent my Saturday morning alternately looking at the newspaper and working the sudoku, which I'm not very good at - AT ALL. Sigh. I showered and met 2 HS friends for lunch. We spent 3 hours together - fun. I took home about half of my salad, but the dressing made it a soggy mess after 3 hours so bf picked out some of the chicken and that was it. Took doggy for a walk, had some tea and a brownie and made the mistake of undertaking the installation of an insulating blanket on the hot water heater. Ugh. Bf and I were both inhaling the fibers (like idiots we didn't don masks until halfway through the project). It was less than 30 min in all, but that was more than enough to be itchy and coughing. My lungs felt it, so I used the symbicort inhaler. Live and learn.

Nothing going on tonight. I think bf and I will watch the next Dead Zone dvd we have from Netflix.

Ceejay- I bet it was a long week - that's a lot of working! Did you get any weekend in there at all? And 12-hour shifts at that!

Shad - I hope you enjoy seeing the penguins. Wow, rearranging the warehouse! Not what you signed on for, eh? More to add to the resume though...

Mel - Sorry you're still hurting - and you have to ice it! Brrrrr!!! Glad you missed most of the snow out your way. Have a wonderful Mellie night and and Sunday too. Try and stay warm!

Happy - Thanks for the recipe - that looks delicious. We just went to the Mitsuwa Marketplace last weekend and ate lunch (udon noodle soup - yum). I don't know if you recall it - it's at Algonquin & Arlington Hts. Rd. It's like a whole 'nother world, and has any of the Asian foods one might need. They'd definitely have the panko. Hope you have a wonderful dinner at Ruth's Chris.

Michelle - Hope your stint at the Pet Expo went well!

Hi Annie!

Have a good rest of the weekend all.

Shad - have you ever tried a NZ Ice Wine - dessert wine? They had it on the menu tonight. I love frozen grapes, it intensifies the sweetness so I imagine this is quite sweet and probably served in a very tiny goblet at a very high price.

Evening all,
Been having a bit of trouble today trying to sort out this connection. It has already eaten 2 gig in about 10 days. That's not on. Something is weird.

Yesterday we went to see the Penguins. We got a 3 park pass and went to the penguins, koala sanctuary and Churchill Island. It was a fun day. But if I ever went to the penguins again, I would pay the extra and get a ranger pass which would give me a much better view. However despite the tourists and a few other inconsiderates we got a good view of them coming up the beach and an even better view when they go into the grassy dunes where they have their burrows. Unfortunately you can't take pictures of them doing this as the flash frightens the penguins - although there were a few humans who can't read and did so. They were escorted off the premises. I did take a photo of a photo of the penguins on the beach. It was under glass which is why you can see my camera and face in the reflection. The night was freezing and the wind howled. If I did it again, I would do things very differently. 60 layers of clothing probably would have fixed it.
The koalas were the remnants of a group that were hunted almost to extinction years ago, as were the Fur Seals at Seal Point. Churchill Island is a small island to the north of Phillip Island and for quite some time was a farm and is now mostly National Park and regenerating forest.

Today I have been busy doing my shopping and washing, folding and putting away things as well as watching a few dvds I have been waiting to see for ages. Back to work tomorrow.

Mel - Maori invasion in trad dress, don't think so somehow. Bit cold over there for those hothouse flowers. Glad you are enjoying the book. There are some good recipes in it.

Happy - NZ Icewine??? Never heard of it, and the only stuff I have heard of is the Canadian variety. No reason not to have it of course - there is ice and snow in NZ. It would no doubt be very sweet.

I'd better go watch the biggest loser. Be back tomorrow.

HAPPY SUNDAY/MONDAY CHICKS. HOW IS THE WEEKEND GOING?? MINE IS CALM, QUIET & COLD. WE'RE BACK IN THE TEENS. GLAD I DON'T HAVE TO GO DOWN AND OPEN ANY DOORS THIS MORNING.
FEELING PRETTY GOOD BUT THE CHEEKS ARE LETTING ME KNOW THIS IS NOT OVER. IT'S LIKE THEY ARE JUST WAITING FOR ME TO MAKE A FALSE MOVE
HOT COCOA AND SOME SUNDAY MORNING TV ARE IN ORDER. HAVE A GREAT DAY.

THE BOOK REPORT:
"THE TOTAL WELLBEING DIET"~ I BOUGHT THIS BOOK BECAUSE IT'S COMMON SENSE. THE KIDS ARE ALWAYS COMING TO ME FOR IDEAS WHEN THE MOOD STRIKES THEM. THIS BOOK IS SIMPLE TO READ, EASY TO FOLLOW, HAS A 12 WEEK MEAL PLAN, 12 WEEKS OF SHOPPING LISTS, 85 RECIPES FOR THE 12 WEEKS, AND A FEW PAGES TELLING YOU HOW TO MAINTIAN THE WEIGHTLOSS AND SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO ADD FOODS BACK INTO YOUR DIET TO TEST YOUR LIVING LEAN AND NOT GAIN AGAIN.
THE RECIPES ARE SIMPLE AND SOME COMMONLY USED.
THERE IS NO MEAT LEFT OUT...LAMB AND VEAL ARE INCLUDED. THERE IS ALSO NO SUGAR COATING OF THE FACT THAT THIS IS A LIFESTYLE CHANGE AND THERE IS NO OFFERING OF A MAGIC PILL. THE ONLY THING I CAN NOT DO IS EAT A 7 OZ MEAT/FISH PORTION AT DINNER. SO YOU CAN SEE IT'S A HIGH PROTEIN DIET BUT WITH ENOUGH CARBS AND EVERYTHING ELSE TO BE SATISFIED. INCLUDING BREAD, PASTA AND LIMITED ALCOHOL. NO FOOD GROUP IS LEFT OUT. THE RECIPES ARE SIMPLE AND THEY EACH MAKE 4 SERVINGS. THEY EVEN TELL YOU WHAT MEAL THE RECIPE IS FOR. THERE IS INFO ON HOW TO SUB A PROTEIN FOR ANOTHER ONE AND HOW TO MAKE WISER CHOICES. I CAN SEE WHERE THIS IS A GREAT REFERENCE BOOK FOR ME AND A GENERAL MOTIVATOR. I THINK IT WAS WELL WORTH THE $9.99 ON AMAZON. THEIR MAIN PURPOSE IS TO LOWER BODY FAT, LOWER TRIGLYCERIDES ANDS BLOOD CHOLESTEROL.

HAPPY~ YOUR RECIPE SOUNDS VERY NICE. WISH I WAS STILL COOKING I HEAR YA ON THE BUSY WORK DAYS. SOMETIMES I HAVE THE SAME PROB AND I'M RETIRED!! ROFLMAO HOPE YOU AND DH HAD A NICE DINNER HOW DID THE HOT ROCKS GO???

Sounds like you had a good time.

Mel
The Total Well Being Diet sounds like a good book to read. I need will power and that left years ago. I may check out the Library to see if they have the book. You can never go wrong in wanting to lower the blood cholesterol and triglercides. Dr Oz has emphasis on these things also. Maybe I could combine the two. It would be nice to have the recipe's Have a nice day.

Laura
Sounds like your time spent with bf and his mother was good. I love Italian food. I may have to talk my aunt and uncle into going to Olive Garden. I've never been but it's one of my aunt's favorite. My week end will start Thursday. I'm ready for it.
