That is what sailors called in aboard ship. They ate a lot of it on voyages. lol My tulips and crocuses have been trying to come up. Which will probably mean, I won't have any for the spring.
Mel
I am planning to take this train ride. It's going on my "bucket list".
Glad you check the dates before you purchased those prunes.
Ruth
It will not be long before Hershey will get to come home. You sound alot better. Keep doing those knee exercises.
Happy
Have fun shopping today. The one thing about jonquils is that the winter months doesn't seemto bother them. I've seen the covered in snow with their blooms above the snow.

Rennie - I could see the snow crocuses starting to send up shoots around now but it's way too early for the tulips up your way. Haven't you been getting the frigid weather like they are getting in Illinois & Indiana? Doesn't seem like it's been warm enough to pop the spring flowers. I'm hoping we don't get an early warm spell for the same reason.
I planted a bunch of snow crocuses one year up in Illinois - about 200 bulbs. That dirty bloody squirrels dug them up. They did the same a few years later with all my tulip and daffodil bulbs. I found them scattered all over the yard with one bite taken out of them
Ceejay - springtime down here is just breathtakingly lovely. It's my favorite time of year. Such incredible beauty and color. I'm ready for it. Hope your day stays quiet. The birds are already singing their sweet springtime songs. The only bad thing is that the mockingbirds are gearing up too and they are round the clock day and nighttime singers. As long as they don't nest near the bedroom windows!
We tried to pick out a door. Someone has to come to the house and measure the entry way - particularly since we have an antique door there right now. Then they will tell us what kinds of styles we can get. I am pleased to hear that the doors are triple paned glass and very very sturdy. That means we can get one with a large oval or glass front to let more light in the area without worrying about the killers and thieves busting in.
.....I had a lovely shower this morning and gave my hair a good wash. Feels sooooo good! The Pypers were here for lunch (they brought it) and my Hershey is now back home! *** Sigh ***
RUTH I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU THAT HERSHEY IS HOME AND EVEN HAPPIER YOU HAD A SHOWER!!
HAPPY~ I ALMOST SPIT ON MY SCREEN ABOUT THE KILLERS AND THIEVES!! LAUGHING NOW BUT I KNOW IT'S TRUE!!! YOU AND I HAVE THE SAME MINDS. IT'S SCARY I ENVY YOU AND CEEJAY IN THE SOUTH WITH THE LONGER GROWING SEASON AND EARLY FLOWERS. ENJOY!
I AM WAVING A HAND NOW AS I WILL NOT BE HERE IN THE MORNING. THE TRIP IS STILL ON AND WE MIGHT GET AN EARLIER START WITH MARK. HAVE A GREAT NIGHT AND DAY TOMORROW.
HELLO TO SHAD AND SHAKER. THEY SHOULD BE HERE SOON!
RECIPE#21
BROWN GROUND TURKEY WITH A BIT OF GROUND CUMIN IN A NON-STICK SKILLET.
SPOON OVER SOME GARLIC FLAVORED COUSCOUS.TOP WITH DICED CUCUMBER, TOMATO, AND ONION.(THERE'S THAT DANG CUCUMBER AGAIN SHADDIE) AND SOME PLAIN YOGURT.
I BET THESE RECIPES WOULD BE GOOD WITH THE THICKER GREEK YOGURT...BUT IT'S NOT READILY AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE
SO I PUT MY PLAIN YOGURT IN A COFFEE FILTER-LINED SMALL SIEVE AMD SUSPEND IT OVER A BOWL IN THE FRIDGE OVERNIGHT. I WRAP A PIECE OF PLASTIC WRAP OVER THE WHOLE THING. YUM!! ALSO GOOD WITH FRESH FRUIT SPRINKLED WITH GRANOLA AND DRIZZLED WITH A WEE BIT OF HONEY
It's now around 8.00am in the morning (Monday of course) and I feel like I have completed the triathlon. I took DS2 to work and then hit the gym at 5.30am. Got out of there at 6.50am and came home. I've put out and brought in a load of washing and there is more ready to go. The dishwasher needs emptying and the floor badly needs sweeping. I was going to do as bid by Mother Mel and weigh and measure and get into it, but couldn't find the batteries for the scale. Isn't it funny how when you are looking for a double A all you can find are triple A's and vice versa, and I found D size, C size and 2 9 volt ones. Now that I am showered, dressed and eating breakfast, I see a packet of AA's in front of me. I will put them in and start the weigh in tomorrow. Yes I will!!!
Morning Mel - hope you have a good trip to the shops and see lots of nice things. Good to get out and about for a bit. I like the sound of that recipe - well apart from the cucumber, but I can get around that.
Ruth - I can hear the sigh of relief from here - Hersh is home and you are starting to put your life back together. Keep up the exercises - I can think of some good elbow bending ones - oh but your not supposed to drink - darn.
Happy - sorry to hear of the big sinus headache. I can relate to those and will probably have one myself tonight after digging in the cupbards and packing stuff and disturbing the years of dust and debris. The new door sounds good. Hope you find something with a good pattern on it. Last time I looked there was lots to choose from in sanding patterns. Pesky squirrels.
Ceejay - I love trains. I couldn't wait for the Rocky Mountaineer trip. If you ever save enough to go down to NZ, there are two really good ones there you can do - the Tranzalpine express (goes over mountains and rivers and waterfalls) and the Coastal Express (Christchurch to Picton along the Pacific Ocean. Both well worth doing.
Rennie - I'm back in the realm of exercise. I know it does me good, I know it works, I know that sweat counts. But the very best part of exercise is when it stops and you know you are done for the day. I just love it then.
Right, well, I've laughed and chatted on the phone for a while and typed away here for a while, my breakfast is done and I no longer have the coffee excuse, so guess what..........
Good afternoon ladies, it is nearly time for me to leave work already, where does the time go. I had a lot of reading to catch up, ceejay and happy you made me laugh about good ole' Simon, when happy wrote it I started laughing thinking oh no she got that badly wrong, and then good ole ceejay put it right out there..
I had a frantic w/end and to be honest I am totally exhausted with no rest in sight!! Fri night fundraising bbq went well, hard work though and I am not that keen for another. I put some baking soda in the fridge although we can't buy it by the box full so I will check out the supermarket tonight for a bit more than what I have. I will try the vinegar as well, but I really need to give it a good scrub am sure that will help.
Sat and Sun were spent in Paeroa, the kids had a good time and DD was MVP so she was rapt with that, she played really well. At the moment the farmers are having a drought and I was driving along quite happily with DD snoozing, bit of an early start, and the paddocks were brown no green to be seen and the farmers were dishing out the hay, which they are low on stock of, had a wee sad tear for them, they have to dry the cows out and slaughter some of the sheepies early due to not enough feed is such a shame.
I have a weigh-in tonight, am not expecting great things had a bit of a faux-pa I went to the supermarket and bought these wafter twists, read the side of the package and though great very low points.. then I was looking at the box yest (after I ate all 13 of them) and the kj's etc were per serving size and the serving size was 1 not the whole box as I thought, so I racked up 13pts eating them.. far out... I know I should've thought man these are yummy can't be that good for ya but hey it was stiffling hot and muggy and I had got out of bed and then pulled a muscle in my back so I wasn't in the best of moods.
The tmill is happy again, the guy said to DH he thought it was a DC10 when it started up ha ha, bearing had gone it is so queit now I don't have to blast the tv. But annoying thing is that it didn't play up for him he couldn't get it to do the same things it did for me so he did some maintenance anyway and replaced a few things and said only thing left is the whole control panel and doesn't think that will be the problem so off I go again.
Glad to hear you are well into recovery mode ruth - upswife nice of you to pop in, is you name because you are the wife of a ups worker? Mel what is broil is that like in a frypan with water?????
Happy will the door be tornado proof.. do you have a basement that you go down to..? have a nice night all.. I gotta go get the groceries before the family eats the furniture..
shaker
Glad the BBQ went well, bet it was a lot of work but well worth it I am sure. Is most always sad for the farmers. I don't think we appreciate them enough. Oh real glad the tred is doing well. Of course it didn't act up for him, nothing acts up when you take it in because it isn't working lol.
Shad
You can find a battery at all? Darn you are doing better than me. I have to go out and get one when I need one. I swear my kids eat the things lol. I wish I sweat, I just don't sweat much. I would feel like I did more if I did lol. Even after 3 express miles I don't sweat.
Ruth
Oh you have to feel so good. A nice hot shower and clean hair really makes us feel better. So glad your little friend is home. I know you have missed Hershey so.
happy
My crocuses shouldn't be coming up for at least another month maybe a bit more. We had almost 60 degrees last week today it was 3 lol. You are two funny. When we put a new front door in we have to rebuild the whole wall. I was looking at this door and that door and said the same thing. I want something someone can't break the glass and get in. The guy started laughing and said I don't think they are going to break this glass lol.
10 degrees ......AND THAT IS WITHOUT THE 40-50 MPH WINDS. GUESS WHO IS STAYING HOME. WE HAD A SNOW HURRICANE YESTERDAY BUT AS FAST AS IT BLEW IN, IT BLEW ITSELF OUT. LOOKED LIKE A BLIZZARD WITH THESE WINDS. UNREAL. JEN CALLED THINKING I WAS CRAZY TO GO SO WE DECIDED TO SPEND THE DAY TOGETHER INSTEAD. HAPPY MONDAY
SHAKER~ BROIL: IN OUR OVENS WE HAVE EITHER A GAS FLAME OR AN ELECTRIC ELEMENT THAT WHEN YOU PUT MEAT UNDER IT, IT COOKS IT FROM ABOVE. DID THAT MAKE SENSE? LIKE FOR STEAKS. TO BROIL INSTEAD OF BAKING IN THE OVEN. HOPE THAT HELPED!
SHAD~ OK I'LL GIVE YOU ANOTHER DAY FOR THE SCALE! DID I ASK ALREADY HOW CHRIS IS DOING? I THINK OF HER FROM TIME TO TIME ALONG WITH TIG'S KIDS IN JAPAN. HAPPY EXERCISING!!
RENNIE~ FOR SOME REASON I CAN'T SEE YOU PICS IN THE SIGGIE THIS MORNING. ALL YOU LITTLE POM POM GIRLS ARE MISSING. GUESS I SHOULD REFRESH THE PAGE

Good morning ladies,
The blankets were nice and cuddly and the house was cold. Didn't want to get up today. Now that I'm upright and coherent, it appears the sinus headache is back again. Guess I can chalk it up to seasonal. We pay a price for those pretty flowers.
Shad, so sorry we missed you yesterday. DH and I were out a good part of the day shopping and roaming here and there. I am very proud of you for getting to the gym at 5:30 in the MORNING. It is a good way to start the day and if you can get a quick swim and sauna in, it lets you start the day all tingly Our town is arranging a trip on the Rocky Mountaineer the end of September. They have an info session the end of February that I'm making DH attend. It looks lovely, I'd really like to go and so would he. However if I'm going to travel across the country, I'd rather go a little earlier than the first week in October. We'd stop off at Butchart Gardens again. Can't go all the way up to Vancouver and not hop over, can you? DH said we can go when his father's house sells - so probably not this year, but soon I hope. Maybe the timing will work where we can meet up on that side of the Worldly Chicks backyard I second Mel's question - how is Chris? She hasn't moved back to NZ yet, has she?
Hello Mel TELL ME you weren't even considering going out in that weather, were you? Are you more nuts than I thought? Sounds positively wicked. Glad it blew out fast. Stay warm my friend. No shopping today.
Rennie - I turned signatures back on but there's something in yours that is not showing up now. Sometimes that happens with the smilies and it's the site more than us. They are making doors stronger now. Good thing but a sign of the times too I suppose. Are you feeling better?
Ah Shaker, guess it's good they got the treadmill going again after the incident with the wafers. The thing I don't understand sometimes with the points is they calculate funny. There is a brand of soup that they advertise as 0 WW points. Well it's zero for one cup. But if you have the whole can (2 cups) it's 1 point. Well how can it be no points for a single serving and 1 point for a double serving - wouldn't that be half a point for 1 cup? Your story about the livestock was sad As for the door, no door is tornado proof unless it's at the bottom of a large, very deep ditch and you're laying on top of it We don't have basements in this section of the country. Something about the water level being too high and they get wet, damp and mouldy. Although one person said the reason they are that way is because the home builders don't know how to build basements for the conditions here. Our "shelter" is the front hall closet under the stairs. That is if you can get past the coats, vacumn cleaner and some boxes. My biggest fear is the huge sweetgum trees out back crashing into the house.
Just glanced at the clock, it's later than I thought - time to get out the door and off to work. Have to remember it's going to take me an extra 20 minutes or so to get in until they replace the missing stop lights at the corner right before our office complex. See you later ladies - love to the rest of the chicks.
Checking in from frigid Delta where it is lightly snowing. It's cozy in the house, especially with my darling dog home and sleeping on my feet! I think she's glad to be home although I'm sure she misses the fun and frolicking at the Pypers' place. She also has a case of the "runs"! I had to do my kitchen floor this morning, a bit tricky when you are in a walker but it's done. Another challenge met!
This morning I MUST get back at the knee exercises as my PT comes tomorrow. My friend Holly may bring over my puppy for a first visit. He was born on January 21 so is just 3 weeks old. IMHO, he shouldn't be outside yet but she's the breeder, not me. The cold may dissuade her.
Nothing much exciting around here - just plugging along and trying to convince myself that every day is better.
All is well in the frigid north. It is my day "off".
-18 degree Celsius = -0.4 degree Fahrenheit
wind chill is -27.7 degree Celsius=-18 degree Fahrenheit
It is very sunny tho. So that is nice. Doing lots of office work today. Hubby does not have work right now and is looking. My first week of self employment went well. My net profit was $150.00 more for the week than if i had been on payroll.
Keepin on......
Ruthie glad to see you back with us. A shower always makes me feel better when down from surgery or sickie. Hope you are feeling better and better each day.
Happy..Yikes the tornados. So glad you are ok, material things like the office can be replaced. It is just a bother to make other arrangements. We are in line for 4-6 inches of snow tonight. Oh boy, starting after 9pm thru 9 am. Right in rush hour. We will have to leave a bit earlier for work.
Mel...Loved Dr. Doug and the recipe for meatloaf. Meatloaf is absolutely my favorite and can eat it with not prob since surgery. Yippee!!
Running vinegar thru the dishwasher helps with spots on stuff too!
Had a wonderful weekend. Went to watch this all girl band Sat night w/DD and her BF and BFs mom. They were great! Blondie, Heart, Led Zepplin, and boy could they sing. All were gay and the crowd was mostly lesbians. I got hit on 3 times. Too funny, wrong flavor for me.
Washer went out last Wednesday with a tub full of towels and water. OMG it was awful getting those heavy towels out. We spent 2 1/2 hours at the landry mat doing 8 loads of wash. I can hardly wait till next week. Oh boy.
Hello to everyone, gotta get back to work, almost 1:00 pm, lunch over.
