  • Day 11 - 4 servings of fruit/vegetables per day - good - 1 pause left
Day 11 - No smoking - good - no pauses allowed!
    Day 2 - Calories under 1800 - good - level 3

All challenges met for yesterday. Now, the dreaded weekend! The only real hard one will be the calories since on weekends I actually cook real meals and of course, my husband HAS to have his Sunday breakfast. Just have to think Portion Control!

Jolly - Good job on making those good choices! Keep on going!

Ashley - Good luck with your new challenges! I don't know much about steroids, but I have heard they can cause weight gain. Isn't it just a temporary gain? Like water weight? Just curious.

Red - Come on now, you're soooooo close on that sugar challenge! You can do this!
Thanks for the encouragement on the smokes. I've heard of people getting sick when quitting, but not sure if that was what I had or just the stomach flu. Whatever it was, I'm glad it's over!

Rab - Congratulations! Wow, 13 days early AND learning to like exercise! That's so great!

    Have a great weekend everyone!
  • Day 5 & 6 for exercise done - only 2 pauses left.

It's raining here (again - gotta love the tropics in the rainy season). So I either have to go to the gym or do it at home. Bought myself a yoga mat yesterday so there is now no excuse that the tailbone can't work on a hard tile floor. Since we are at work today (Sunday) there is no chance of the gym (12pm to 6pm) so it's a home workout before dinner.

Better run. Trying to keep up with all of this and work too, but this is becoming a distant second. Still I am keeping up with my challenges and tomorrow will be starting a new series of food and water challenges as before.

Water - 1600ml per day (two pauses)
Food - As per food sheet (CSIRO) (3 pauses)
And I'll continue the exercise one.

    Catch you all later.

  • middle of Sunday...
Well it's Sunday afternoon here and I haven't done the crunches yet, I will and that'll wrap that challenge up. It's the sugar that is just awful. I sure wish I hadn't taken all those pauses so early and even then, I didn't have my usual pigout pause, but just a bit of sugar, so I guess I'm just feeling sorry for myself and craving comfort food. Things are rough as usual. I have rashes and think it's from the constant stress at work. I'm not in a good way, really. Still, I'm sitting here drinking some mildly gross vegetable juice. It had carrots, komatsuna (a bitter spinach-like veg), udo (some sort of root), cabbage and celery. There, I just finished a good 350 mil of it (about 13 oz). I've been keeping a juice stealth challenge going now for at least two weeks. That first round did make it a habit and it's just something I want to do for myself. I don't know how much it's helping. These things are always so hard to tell. I feel pretty energetic and my skin looks really good...for my age...and it was looking bad there for a while, not broken out, but just haggard, poor color, poor tone. Now it has color and seems to be more alive! Yeah! I figure since I've been drinking juice for over 5 weeks straight now it should show up. Sigh. Still, with everything as mad as it is at work, I feel pretty down. Oh well, just gotta keep plugging away and think how awful!! I would be if I caved it.

    **************

dj -- Thanks a lot for your words of encouragement. They really, really helped. I so need some kindness in my life these days. The quitting smoking illnesses come up in any number of ways. Stomach flu could easily be one. I got a very nasty cold when I quit, bronchitis-like symptoms and coughing. Some people get it going off sugar. But, yeah, smoking is horrid stuff. You don't realize till you quit how much it was affecting you, but that's after about a month I think, after the physical symptoms go. I liked to think of my teeth getting whiter and they did! and not getting those ugly lines around your mouth. I think it was the vanity that finally did it for me, though also because I didn't like being controlled by the cigs. Sometimes, the pride comes in handy! Good luck over the weekend!

Shad -- Good for you for sticking to your challenges despite all the work and I hope you get some use out of that mat..now, if I could only make room to put mine down....but yeah, keep it up. I'm so glad to have this site. The challenges really keep me in line.

jolly -- You can do it!!

Ashley -- Hang in there. The weight must just be bloat. There is NO way you can GAIN three pounds of fat in five days. Don't let it scare you. I understand the need to have a more rigid structure. I'm that way myself. Best of luck!

  • over the finish line!!!!
    Crunch challenge -- Day 21 completed/ I'm finished!!!

No sugar -- Day 18 completed/0 pauses of 3 left

  • Day 12 - 4 servings of fruit/vegetables per day - good - 1 pause left
Day 12 - No smoking - good - no pauses allowed!
    Day 3 - Calories under 1800 - good - level 3

Another day down. I should be ok today. Superbowl would sometimes be a worry, but I really can't stay up and watch it since I get up so early. That should be a help! I'll leave the husband and kids up to eat and watch the game, they can have it.

Red - You got the crunches and you are oh, so close on the sugar. Awesome job! I'm so glad you held on to it. I know your life is crazy, but doing good things for yourself makes you feel better, even if sometimes it is tough. Keep it up!

Shad - Glad to hear you're holding on, even if you are busy. Keep going!

    to everyone out there!
  • Hi all. DAy 2 (yesterday) both challenges met. Red, I am going to need to dig up some of your determination to do one of my videos tonight. I meant to go this morning, but a combination of the horrendous cold, heavy breakfast (I didn't feel like cooking, so I warmed up the leftovers I was going to have for supper for breakfast, and figured I could make an omelet for supper) and an antihistamine for the sniffles left me dozing on the couch.

Ah well, should have plenty of time this evening.

So, now I need to just let out a little scream. My stepsister and I are meeting my mom to go see "Because I Said So," a new Diane Keaton movie. Mom just calls me to ask me if my car starts, and what I am going to do if it doesn't. I know she loves me, and is just concerned about me, but really! I am not 3 And then she sounds all hurt when I am short with her - she's very good at that. I just have to remind myself that it is coming from love, and be patient with her. And not call to ask to borrow their extra car if mine doesn't start

I will try and get on to post later. Have a wonderful day all. Keep up the great work, and Red Way to go on completing your crunches. YOu are an inspiration.
  • The new challenges are a big improvement. I think I need the structure to keep myself in check. I just need to recognize that I have no self-control and plan accordingly. The 21-day challenge is great for me, because it imposes the structure I need so badly. This is such a great thread!

    Calories <1500, 2 days done
    Food log, 2 days done
    5 vege/fruit, 2 days done

DJ - I don't know whether the weight-gain is water weight or not, but I was eating non-stop so I know that was contributing to the cause. It makes me so jittery and hungry! I'll be glad to finish the prescription over the next week. Looks like you're having a good weekend. Just step away from the Super Bowl food!

Red - a stealth challenge. I like the sound of that - sounds like you're really up to something sneaky. I'm sorry things are still so stressful for you at work. I hope it starts to improve for you soon.

Jolly - how was the movie? I've been seeing that one advertised, but you're the first person I've heard to actually see it. I wonder how old we have to be before the mother/daughter relationship issues are settled. I just talked to my mother and then said "That chore is done." when I hung up. Wish I could speak with her and actually enjoy it. At least my relationship with my daughter is great.

Shad - I bought a mat a few months ago with the best of intentions, but my mat stays rolled up in the corner, gathering dust. I'm impressed with anyone who actually uses their mat. Good for you!

Rab - you've really done well! Hope you had a good weekend.
  • Yesterdays tomorrow is actually going to turn into today's tomorrow and I won't be starting the challenge today. With all the things that have gone wrong this morning, it is just not worth the risk.

Here's a true life laugh to cheer you up.

Went to the gym this morning. Checked off the inventory as I went - right bra, right outer gear, trainers, purse, gym card, keys yep got em all. Shut the door, went down to the car and off to gym. Get on the bike, rack up 6k and 120cals, elliptical, 3 km and another 130 cals. Treadmill - 12 mins oops out of time gotta go home 50 cals and 1km. Get in the car - where are my specs - in the gym of course. Back you go and get 'em. Get in the car, drive home sweating like crazy - the temps around 26C and humidity around the 80% mark. Get into the garage and unload my bags, grab the keys, lock the car. Keys feel a bit strange - oh poop, I have the set of Brisbane keys and not the Townsville keys - now what. No phone, no pen, no paper so I get one of the other residents to write the caretakers number down and I go to find a payphone. Well I end up walking into the CBD to get one of those. It's raining AGAIN so now I am hot, sweaty and wet. Walk back to the apartment, the caretaker has no master keys or spare keys. Need to go to the letting office to get those. Damn. They don't open until 8.30am and it is now 7.30am. Find a coffee bar open - at least I have money. Get a coffee and a roll. Think nasty thoughts. Then I figure I can at least go to work and tell my boss what has happened and that will kill a bit of time. So hot, wet and sweaty I go to work only to get remarks like - we are looking sporty today aren't we! Anyway, eventually I get a spare set of keys, go home get showered and changed and come to work - remembering the keys this time!!!

Consequently I haven't had a decent breakfast, I haven't got lunch (will have to go buy some) and nothing I've had today is on plan.

    Tomorrow can only get better.
  • No sugar -- Day 19 completed/0 pauses of 3 left

Hey all! Thanks for all the encouragement! I hope you are all staying on track today
I had another drink Saturday night >_> but my friend was moving to California and we were having a get together lol.. I got laughed at for drinking 1 Boone's Farm when its usually more like 8 jello shots and 12 beers.. >_> but Boone's Farm is good and it lists the nutrition information on the side! lol at least im not drinking for no reason now, after work and on school nights lol. I've been exercising everyday but skipping sundays because I sleep in and then work until close
  • Day 13 - 4 servings of fruit/vegetables per day - good - 1 pause left
Day 13 - No smoking - good - no pauses allowed!
    Day 4 - Calories under 1800 - good - level 3

Crazy morning, gotta run! Have a great day!
  • Good morning all. I took a pause on both of my challenges yesterday. I went out to start my car and . . . you guessed it - it didn't start. I knew I was going to have to replace the starter - but was hoping to make it through the weather first. Now, I sit at home today, waiting for the grumpy tow truck guy to pick up my car and pray the mechanic can get if fixed today so I can get back to work. Anyway, ended up eating some bad stuff last night, though I did through out the excess, which is a bonus. I also didn't take the time to do any exercise. I will have to buckle down and do soemthing today once the car is picked up.

YIKES. So, Shad, I am feeling your pain today.
Ashley, the move was great. I really enjoyed it. As far as how old you have to be to resolve the whole mother/daughter relationship thing? I think never. I think it is always there. Though I did put a possible different spin on mine. Perhaps it isn't that she thinks I am 3, but that she thinks of these things as "MAN DUTIES." As I don't have a man, I may not be able to take care of it. Ah well. Lord love her.

    Have a great day all
  • Well, I am still alive with one challenge, I'm on day 12 of exercise with no pauses left. Today I am starting up the no beer again.
Sorry to have been away. I'm dealing with all sorts of sick people. My mother and my little guy seem to be doing better, today the oldest son is home from school.
So while I was away from 3fc, I see that Rabmonk AND Red finished challenges!!!
And DJ's sticking to the no smoking!!!
It's great to hear about all your success! Well, hello to everyone else and I'll write more later.
  • Calories - <1500, day 3, no pauses taken
Vege/fruit - at least 5 servings per day, day 3, no pauses taken
Food log every day, day 3, no pauses taken
Exercise - 30 minutes per day, day 3, no pauses taken

Shad - I laughed out loud when I read your story. Hopefully your day improved after that!

Jolly - looks like you and Shad can compete for bad mornings. The car never breaks down on a convenient day.

Rab - going from shots and jello shooters to 1 Boone's Farm is quite the accomplishment. Wonder about the difference in calories if you compared the two?? Bet it's a lot. And you hit your mini-goal too - congratulations!!

DJ and Red - the two of you are really knocking off the days.

Apple - glad to hear some of your family is improving anyway.
