GATOR: Welcome home. We missed you. Prayers for your brother in law..and sister. And mother...and you!
TALITHA: Sweetie, you have a right to be exhausted. Poor Jake. I hope they can figure it out and fix whatever it is that is making him sick so much. I hope and pray everything can be sorted out by the time the baby makes his entry to the family. Whooping cough...now WHERE did he get that?
I just realized it is Wonderful Wednesday....so here is mine: Since April 23 I have worked out every day but four. Just FOUR days I have missed... And I have 1995 minutes of exercise, and have burned off 13,998 calories.
I walked over to breakfast at the local cafe' with my neighbor. The one I drove to the doctor the other day. We had a good time catching up. I love the walk over there. I AM enjoying walking a lot. I think I will put on my swimming suit and go jump in the pool. I am definitely hot and sweaty and it will feel SOO good!
Not much happening here. I hope everyone is doing well. THIN, how is Sean doing? BOB, how is the new job? TALITHA, I am hoping to hear about Jacob's tests. GATOR, I hope you could sleep last night with the house all torn up. SEF, where are you? TONI, you too! ANN, hope you are doing well. KAYE, I guess you are sunning on a beach in Hawaii about now...HEART, are you doing ok today? TECH, are you out driving?
I'm back!!!! My company left this morning. I'll miss them all so much and the house seems so lonely already without the kids and their dog. My little daughter in law is a joy to have here and the Grandsons are great. My eating has been bad. I just seemed to cook the wrong things. We went to the river and barbecued over the week end with lots of people and that was bad for my eating too! But tomorrow is a new day. I've got a sore throat and a really bad cough so think I'll be taking it easy for a day or two. While company was here the brakes went out in my car so it had to go to the shop. Picked it up yesterday and feel so much safer now. Sorry I'm to far behind to do replies. Have a happy day.
It is cold and rainy here this morning. Didn't get my walk in yet, as it was pouring at 6 when Buddy and I usually head up the hill. I am hoping that it will break sometime soon and I will get a chance to get my usual 3 miles in if nothing else. Hope to get our new 4 miles in, but we will see. This will give me a chance to test my endurance later in the day!!
Was nice yesterday for most of the day. Got a few beds weeded before our thunderstorms moved in. We got lots of lightening and thunder, poor little Buddy was shivering and shaking. He hates loud noises. 4th of July is really hard on him, and also hunting season when lots of shots are being heard around here.
Our garden started off very good, but with all this rain is at a standstill. We need a few days of nice hot weather!! I want to get started repainting our front and back porches, but the weather hasn't been cooperating for that either!!
Heart-- Thanks for the info...... I will look for it at Wal Mart. I have tried doing some sort of exercise in the evenings, but I tell you, I am just exhausted. It was everything I could do to get up the hill. In the mornings I am fresh and ready to go. I really do want to participate in this walk though, so maybe I need to push myself more in the evenings!
Thunder-- Congrats on the 5 pounds. That is wonderful!!
Solly-- Don't work too hard. Sorry to hear about your blister. Sore feet are a pain!! I don't know how I do it, but when I walk I seem to get just little sand sized pebbles in my shoes. I have to stop all the time and empty my shoes or my feet become so tender that I can't walk at all.
Thin-- Hugs for Sean, I am sure he will heal very quickly now. I have suffered with severe sinus infections for years. Glad they were able to help him.
Monet-- If your body already has too much insulin, what is the reasoning for having it create even more?? Isn't that how a person becomes insulin resistant and on their way to becoming a type 2 diabetic. I am probably not understanding it right, sorry. That walk was my first, and I am looking forward to my next one!! I went with 3 others from Curves, and it was definitly something I will do again.
Talitha-- I am so sorry for Jacob, he must be miserable. Hugs to both of you.
Gator-- I am so glad that your BIL is getting along better now. It must be very hard for you, with the strain between your Sister and Mother. Family is so very important, I am glad that she has you to be there when she needed you!!
Toni-- Glad you enjoyed your visit. Take care of yourself now.
TEENSY: Yes, it seems to be counter productive to take drugs to create more insulin, doesn't it? BUT...high sugar levels in the blood MUST be dealt with or complications can be deadly. The fact that the sugar levels are high indicates that there is not ENOUGH insulin, or that what you have can't do the job. MORE insulin does get the job of getting the sugars into the cells taken care of. The side effect is that insulin also tells your body to store fat, and when you have lots of insulin, there is too much of it shouting "Save! save! Save!". That is why exercise is so crucial. It helps burn off the sugars, and for some reason increases your sensitivity to insulin. They don't understand why...but it does. Insulin and exercise are the only ways to get the sugar out of the blood. Too much sugar can cause blindness, kidney failure, neuropathy, heart problems, stroke, etc. The complications of hyperglycemia are worse than the weight gain, so getting the sugars down is really important. If I were just insulin resistant, it would not be so critical, but now that I have crossed over and been diagnosed as a full blown diabetic, it is critical to manage the sugar levels. Tight management of glucose levels has been shown to prolong life, and lessen complications. Hopefully, eventually we can find a drug that will work for me with out the weight gain.
Hey, guys. I feel like doggy doo today and for some reason I keep getting customers with bad attitudes. TALITHA- I hope that those tests all come back negative. Some kids are just more "sickly" than others. GATOR- If I weighed 110, I would be on the verge of death or at least look like it. You also have to account for not just height, but your frame size and muscle. I've seen other women that wear a size 12 like I do but I would have thought they would have been on up in the plus sizes compared to myself. I remember when my daughter made the comment last year about my size being much bigger than a friend of ours. I set her straight on the spot. Your doing great, don't be so hard on yourself. I'm alot "healthier" than some of my friends, but they are smaller than I am. So appearances don't tell the whole story. Alright, that's it for me for now. Have a good day!
Heart, Thanks for the words of encouragement. Actually, we are pretty much the same bone size--my sister and I; I just have more "fluff"!!
I really think there must be something to how much one eats. The SB book talks about not having seconds and not taking so much food that it laps over onto the rim of the plate. I would say that my sister definitely eats that way--just small portions that she often doesn't finish, and only a small snack. She eats anything and everything--white potatoes, ice cream (full fat and full sugar!!!), potato chips, etc. but just not very much of them. She might have a muffin for breakfast, with butter, and leave 1/4th of it. I have NEVER done that! Leave part of a muffin!!?? You've gotta be kidding! Anyway, I might start trying to do that.
The house is still a wreck, but everything is moving on. They know that we really want to get back into our bedroom, and so the painter is trying to finish all the woodwork and walls there by tomorrow afternoon. Then we can move all our furniture back into place and live there like we are not camping out. I think the plumber will be coming next week to hook everything up, so I will be back into my old bathroom with new sinks and new shower. I'm really looking forward to that. They will be tearing out the sliding glass doors from my family room and my kitchen maybe tomorrow, so things may get messier. They also have to do some ceiling work in our hall and have decided to just scrape our hall ceiling and put in a new knock-down ceiling. That will make a BIG mess, but I'm hoping that if I put rolled up towels in front of all the doors leading into the hall, it will stop dust from leaking in. Hoping!
I did not get a chance to walk. Just too much stuff to talk over with the contractor. But I did go to my workout place and lift weights for 30 minutes. It is too hot in the middle of the day to walk so m-a-y-b-e I will walk this evening. I'm having dinner with my DH at the club where he plays golf--so I won't have to cook. I'll probably get tiny crab cakes, some green veggie and oriental slaw that comes with the crab.
I turned off the A/C today because all the doors were open as the workmen were coming in and out. They all have left except for the painter, and the temp in here was 85°. So I closed all the doors and cranked the AC DOWN! We don't have a pool like Monet does. If we did I'd jump into it right now.
That's all the news from here. Need to clean up my kitchen and prepare a Sunday school lesson. Take care everyone.
You should be able to click on the pictures above to see my belly. One is a close up and one is jsut a side shot to see how huge I am. Then there's a sweet pic of Selah just for fun
Hi all!
Son had a good dietitian appt. We spent 1.5 hours talking about diet and all. She has him on a 45-75 carb per meal plan depending on his activity level. It seems to be working well so far, no blood sugar crashes!
He took his driver's test Wednesday and passed so next Wed. he can go get his driver's license.
I rode my bike 2.5 hours Tuesday, I was so happy with that! Eating has been good except for a dish of ice cream today.
I hope everyone is doing well. I have to check on my chicken I have on the grill
I feel water logged. I spent over an hour water jogging today. I also spent 45 minutes walking. Its hard to get anything else done. Tom is thrilled I am getting in so much exercise though, he is not complaining about stuff much.
I got a great book today on Type 2 diabetes. One thing I read while skimming ahead (a bad habit of mine...) was that if you are insulin resistant, you need to be very very careful to manage blood sugar levels and not exhaust your beta cells in the pancreas, or you will have a hard time managing your sugar levels once your pancreas can't keep up. It seems the more beta cells that are destroyed by exhaustion, the harder it is to control your diabetes. I can't help but think that my following Sugarbusters all those years is a big contributing factor in my success so far. What to eat is not a mystery, and while I am finding I need to tweak it a bit, for the most part Sugarbusters is working well.
I am pretty tired tonight, so I am going to crawl in bed real soon here. Sweet dreams!
TALITHA: Thanks for the pics! Give sweet Selah a hug and a kiss from me.
ANN: That is great that you have been able to get things settled for your son with his diet. Good going on the bike riding! Don't forget to post it on the exercise board!
We went this morning for our allergy shots and the doctor decided to go ahead and take Sean's stents out of his nose today instead of coming back in on Monday. They were huge! You never would have expected something that large to fit up your nose~ He says he seems to be doing well, just need to work a little more on the sinus rinses using a little more force and a little more of the solution at a time to get some of the "gunk" out of there. We then went by Wal-mart and he was complaining about the air feeling so cold and rushing up his nose! I told him it was a feeling he will just have to get used to again. He is free to go swimming to as long as he takes it easy for a couple of days and doesn't put his face into the water too much in the beginning. We will go back next Friday as there is still one stitch they didn't get today and they want to suction out his nose one more time. We may go get in grandma's pool this evening or tomorrow, just depends on how he feels. He still complains some about headaches, but still has some healing to do.
