  • Hello ladies,

I am sorry that I haven't been here AGAIN!! My Mother had a very unfortunate accident with her lawn mower on Monday. She did not shut the blade down when she reached down from her seat to pick up a rock. The rock must have hit the blade as she picked it up for it sucked her right hand right in. She is very lucky not to have lost her whole hand. As it is she ended up with severe lacerations, broken bones and an amputated pinky finger.
And boy what a run around trying to get it taken care of. She drove herself over to the little Deer Park Hospital. They couldn't give her anything for the pain unless she had someone to drive her. They called me, and I went straight over.....they then said she would have to go to Holy Family Hospital in Spokane because the X-rays showed alot of broken bones, okay, not a problem. Oh no, wait.....she will have to go to Sacred Heart, they are all ready for her. Okay. We head out to Sacred Heart.....clear across Spokane (Deer Park is 20 miles north of Spokane) and in the heart of the city. We walk into the ER, and we are greeted and told there has been a change of plans. "You are very lucky, because there is a hand surgeon at Deaconess Hospital." So we head over to Deaconess. Guess what? They had been looking at yesterdays rosster. No Surgeon there. Finally they got a hold of an Orthepaedic Surgeon and he turns out to be the one that did Dh's back surgery. We didn't leave the hospital until 9 pm Monday night, and the call from the Deer Park Hospital came to us at 10:17 AM!! She has been staying here for the past few days, but she went home this morning. Then this afternoon my sister Shirley and her hubby showed up. They are headed to Seattle, and are between loads so they will stay with her for a couple of days. I was there cutting up veggies and fruit for her to have in the refer when they showed up. I will still check up on her when I go to Curves each morning. She said she had just been dozing off and on all day. Which is probably just what she needs!!

On to some better news. I had my first weigh in at Curves this morning and I am down 4 pounds and I lost 3.75 inches!! Yeah!! I really love this program, and I am excited that it has got me back on track. I also enjoy the women that I meet each day that I go. They have all been great!! And I enjoy talking to them about Sugar Buster's and this board. Everyone that has heard about SB sure has good things to say about it. But WE all know that, don't we?

I haven't been able to read the board yet, but I am hoping to get caught up in the next couple of days. My house is a disaster too!! And I have company coming for dinner on Friday night, yeek!!

Speaking of dinner........is BASMATI rice legal on our eating plan??

    Gotta run....see you all soon!!
  • Hi all,
Had to go to Kansas City today to take younger DS to the endocrinologist. (Good appt no changes). We had lunch at our favorite BBQ restaurant Fiorella's Jack Stack at 95th and Metcalf.
Had ribs and chicken and a vegetable kabob. Unfortunately some creamy corn bake showed up on my plate along with 3 large onion rings. Now I'm not hungry at all!

Toni, Yes my dinner really did turn out well. I sort of made it up as I went so I hope I can repeat it! I really love asparagus! Do you? Which reminds me of a creamed asparagus soup I need to make this spring.

Cindy, your doggie is so cute. And you are so brave to take one on. I am a cat person because they are lower maintenance.

Monet, Thanks for the info on the kitchen aid mixer. I used to get the cheaper food processors and then replace them when the motor burned out which was at least yearly but since I got a heavy duty KitchenAid food processor I have had no problem. I like to mix up the dough for ww pastry flour biscuits in it. It has been a dream of mine to get the mixer as well.
Are you getting a cold? The onions and garlic will head it off.

Colleen, Your poor Mom. I hope her recovery is speedy!

    Looking forward to Lost tonight.

  • Bad, BAD Monet ate pizza for dinner. The newlyweds are out with friends, Tom is off on a business trip, so James and I ordered a pizza. I ate three smallish pieces, and I feel totally stuffed. Still. TWO hours later! argh.

I just finished a cup of sleepytime tea and I actually am feeling rather drowsy. Its either the tea, or the pizza! I will probably crawl into bed in the next half an hour and hopefully sleep all night.

After dinner, James and I sat and talked. Well, HE talked and I mostly listened. It was pleasant. I really ought to unload the dishwasher, load it back up again and run it. I just don't feel like being productive though.

I am going to go get ready for bed. Sweet dreams, everyone!

  • Hello All!! Been a crazy week at work. I am doing well with sticking to my plan. The weight seems to be coming off nicely. I decided to go with Penaut butter WW toast and an apple for breakfast right now. I need to find some other options. I might try and make my own protein bars, I know there are some recipes on the site. What to have with dinner seems to be throwing us right now - but we are managing.

    So now for my questions...
Lunchmeat - I have read here and there about lunchmeat being illegal - what's the scoop? I haven't seen that in the book so far.
Brown Rice - Is the instant OK?

Teensybean - Sorry to hear about your mom's accident. Poor thing

    thunderwoman62
    - You mentioned "Diet Coke" as being a problem. Are we not allowed to have diet pop??

techwife - I am partial to Paris. I don't know why, but I love her!!

BOB - May I ask what's the deal with Krogers?? Do you hate it or love it??

Talitha - Congrats on your promotion!!

GatorGal - Thanks for the kinds words.

Solly - I think I will have to break down and buy some protien powder this weekend. For smoothies and protein bars. What flavor protein do you use??

Monet - You should have gone to Chicago with Tom! We could have visited!!

    Cindylcing - Really cute Puppy!!!

Gotta Get to bed!! to anyone I've missed!!!
  • SANDI: Diet coke is ok. Some folks just have trouble with water retention with it. I would say brown instant rice is not as good a choice as regular brown, or basmati (white or brown). A few folks use the instant and think its fine. If you are losing, and eating the instant, then its probably ok. Just remember not to over do it. Lunch meat is ok...use your common sense. Honey ham or turkey are probably not a good choice. I eat Tavern Ham, baked chicken breast, baked turkey...and it does not seem to be a problem for me. (eating three pieces of pizza was a problem, but lunch meat is not! ) I am from the Chicago area. Did you know that? If he could have planned to stay the weekend, I would have gone. Just the short time he is going to be there was not worth my spending $400 to go. Next trip, maybe. Next time I head up there to see my sisters, I will definitely meet up with you! That would be awesome! Oh, and BOB's problem with Kroger is that there are none in Florida where she lives, so if we who have them talk about it, she gets insanely jealous!
  • Sandi-Diet Coke is allowed but I have a problem with it because it makes me retain fluid...Like this weekend all last week I was at 241 and Saturday nite I drank 3 glasses of it and from Sunday until yesterday I was at 248 thats what it does to me. It takes that long for it to leave my body. For me its a nono because of that. Hope you have a wonderful day!

Hope everyone has a wonderful SB Day!!!!
  • Hi Sandi,
Another problem with the diet sodas (any brand or flavor) is that we are drinking something that has the "sugar" taste and so we are not weaning our body off our need for that taste. Of course, real sugar also affects insulin levels, but some writers, such as Byron Richards (who Monet reads) believe that drinking any soda, diet soda included, is counter-productive to getting healthier and losing weight. The sugary taste combined with the chemicals and artificial sweeteners used in those drinks put additional stress on our body, according to some writers. I admit to drinking a diet coke about 2X a month, but the taste of it compared with, say, an apple or some berries, is a totally different kind of sweetness. Hope this explanation makes sense.
  • Good morning. My lady is here to help clean the house. I just have a minute before I go start a load of wash. My eating has been fine and I was really pleased with yesterday. Haven't had breakfast yet as I can't get in the kitchen while its being cleaned. So I may have to grab something and run. I know I'm having turkey tenderloin tonight with green beans and a salad. Also have some meat and vegetables for lunch. I'll be glad to go shopping tomorrow and get some fresh fruit and vegetables. Well better run. Will be back later....
  • Talitha--Got it! Thanks for the lagnappe.
  • Hey! The kitties came home yesterday and are doing fine. Blair however has a cone around her neck and I swear, she looks like this She still tries to clean herself, but it will be a couple of days before we can take it off and she can get back to her "regal" self!

I haven't been out to walk anymore this week since Monday, but did a lot of house cleaning today including sweeping, mopping and vacuuming as well as cleaning tubs and showers. Maybe that counts for something!

hope you all are having a great week!
  • Hi all
Ive got the day off work tomorrow so Im able to actually stay up a bit later tonight.
Got some great news about my supervisors son this morning at work and its made the day sunny and bright. About 12 days ago he had just gotton on a bull at a rodeo ( he is 20 ) and he started slidding to the side and the bull rammed him into a metal pole that was cemented in the ground. He has been in a coma ever since. They did not give him much hope saying he had the worst possible head injury you can get and we were told Monday that on the scale the hospital uses to measure the severity of head injuries he was a 4 on the scale of 15 being the best and 3 being the worst. Alot of people have been praying for this young man and last night he was trying to open his eyes and when asked to give a thumbs up if he could hear them he did!! And did it two times !! So awesome. So am hoping he will continue to improve.
My other good news for the day is the church I go to ( which is a newly formed church) and we are starting a womens ministry and tomorrow night will be a beginning group of us forming a group study to eventually break off into other studies and I just found out this evening my niece is going to be a part of this too. Im so excitied to be sharing this with her. She is so special to me.
On the eating front.. Dh and I have been doing a pretty lowcarb regimen the past 3 weeks or so... I just need to switch things up a bit ( didnt help me lose any though, hes lost 12 lbs .. men !!) so next Monday we start back on the sugar busters type plan. The warm weather is coming and I "feel" its time to start losing again. I seem to do better in the warmer months than in the summer. So we will see.

Teensy- Oh my gosh. Your poor mom. That is so scary. Im glad she is ok and that it wasnt worse than what it was.

Hope everyone has had a wonderful week!
  • Evening! I had a busy one. I went to Hobby Lobby, the Dollar Tree, Publix, and Party City. I am beat! Then, after all that, Laura and I drove Ruth home. She lives 45 minutes away, so it was a long trip. Tom just called and James is going to pick him up from the rapid transit train station. Dinner was eaten in the car, driving. We had some gourmet bread from Publix and cheese. The bread was awesome, but I don't think it was whole grain. I drank a couple of bottles of water too. I need to go and make a pot of sleepytime tea. I think it is helping me sleep big time!

  • Hello Everyone,

Just another quick one before bed. Can't believe how tired I am at night. Sometimes I find myself dozing at 8:00!! That is very unusual for me. I am up until at least 11:00 usually. Must be all that good hard exercise I am getting. I know that I am sure sweating while I do it.......

Spent the morning after Curves at Mom's. Got all her bills made out. We had put my name on her accounts when my Dad passed away so that is not a problem. I wrote out all the checks, and she stuffed envelopes one handed. It was a fun time, and I always enjoy her company. We are going over to do some burning tomorrow. There are only 2 week-ends in the year, that they are allowed open burning so she has had all of her yard clippings piled up. Dh will head over while I am at Curves, and I will meet him over there.

I am really hoping to get back to normal here soon. I spent the day cleaning my poor old dirty house. And we have a friend coming for dinner tomorrow night. I am grilling some salmon, having roasted asparagus, basmati rice, and strawberry shortcake for dessert. (I will just have the berries, or a piece of 85% chocolate with a smidgeon of port wine!) Yummmmmy!!

KayeC and JacobsMommy-- Thank you both for your kind words for my Mom. She is strong, and seems to be handling it just fine. I just hope that it doesn't start throbbing or hurting her a bunch.

Will try and stop in before dinner tomorrow.......sweet dream to all of you!
  • Colleen: Wow...I can't believe that about your mom. Poor thing...I'm glad she's adjusting so far...

Just a quick fly-by!! Check out my ticker...1...5...THREE!!! My NEW all-time low!! I was so excited to see that gap to the left of the 155 mark this morning!!

Okay...of to have something legal for breakfast!!
