  • You'll be so proud of me for not eating out under stress. I came home and had my spelt pasta and cabbage for lunch. Can't quite say why I'm so into cabbage all of a sudden!! The latest craving but really just a variation of the Kale cravings I was having a few months ago.

I'm feeling food after my WA class today. My poor kids have been eating whatever I can feed them fast and amusing themselves while I make calls and work. At this point I think it's jsut down to getting orders inputted. I don't know the exact number, but I'm pretty sure I've made it AND I get a $200 bonus!!

Tomorrow will be busy, but Trav and I are going on a date tomorrow night. We have $40 gift certificate to Carrabbas. I think they have some WW pasta. If not I'll get a steak.

No replies for now. NO time
  • Quote: KAYEC: Jasmine rice is NOT legal. Its Basmati that is. White Jasmine rice is actually kind of high GI even for white rice.
Monet I looked on my package and it is Basmati that I have. It is good so I have to really watch that I keep my portion to 1/2 cup. KayeC
  • Hey! Tomorrow's Friday! Yes!
I have read two books this week that were somewhat interesting. One is Turn Off The Fat Genes and the other was about hypothyroidism, though I don't remeber the title and it's out in the car. The hypo book was interesting in that some of the side effects or indicators of hypothyroidism were things that I have, but were unaware that they might be connected. Dry skin was one of them, but right now I can't think of the others.
The fat genes book was also a good read, though the author is a doctor who promotes a vegan diet. Now, I like my meats too much for that, but there were some good points made in it. His four food groups would be Beans, nuts and legumes; whole grains, cereals, pastas; fruits; and veggies. He was big on fiber and low fat as well as the "good carbs" . I have been adding a lot more fiber, fruits and veggies in my diet now that I have ever eaten before, so some of the recipes I will try. He also talks about leptin and the body going in to starvation mode. Basically you should still eat a good amount of food so your bady is not "starving", but eat more fiber, veggies, etc instead of fats and sweets. Some of his ideas were a little on the extreme side for me but overall quite interesting.
I have had problems with my stomach over the last few years and have just recently discovered for myself that it is due to milk. as long as I don't drink it too often I'm OK, but if I get to much I get very gassy and bloated . I bought some vanilla soy milk yesterday and had just a little with my uncle sam cereal this morning. It was not too bad. It has only 5 sugars per serving and I don't eat cereal every day, so it may be nice. I don't know that I would like it on it's own though.
    Have a nice night!
  • THIN: If you are hypothyroid DO NOT USE SOY!! Soy is very bad for people with thyroid problems as it binds with thyroid hormones and makes them unusable to the cells. You can make your hypothyroidism much worse using soy. If you can't do milk, try almond milk, or rice milk. I know you might think I am some kind of lunatic, or know it all, but I have researched a LOT about thyroid problems due to my own. The doctor was always amused at how much I knew and would ask what my opinion was before deciding on my treatment options. Seriously, you want to avoid soy. If you can't trust me, go do some research...the about.com thyroid pages are the best online, and they have articles about the problems of soy with the thyroid.
  • Good morning! I slept better last night than I have for a while. I feel better this morning too! Yay! I still have a cough, but not as bad as before. I can live with it. The weather looks nice too, so I may see if I can handle a short walk today.

We have a LOT of MIAs. Its depressing! So, if you are lurking, please come out and say hello!

Munchermom, Melf, Jailene, Aiyana, Dripping, Fillise, Heartmom, Kengjw,HugCrystal, CountryMom, RoseAnneJunkins, Pancho, CindyLcing, Princess1122, .... I am sure there are more I am missing.
  • Monet- Thanks! I didn't know that. Rachel liked it also and her thyroid is fine, it's been tested, maybe she'll just eat it on her cereal. Which tastes better almond or rice? I can get some this afternoon at Kroger on the way home.

I am happy to report I am down 1.5 lbs since last week. I have been having better luck weighing mid or late week. For some reason I seem to retain fluid on the weekends. I have not figured out why. Maybe I eat more sodium. Do you think it could be due to sleeping different hours and taking meds a little later? I have my yearly check up in May and if it's still a problem I will talk with my dr about it. Otherwise, I don't notice any other problems, just puffy eyes and 1-2 lb over my week weight. It ususally drops down again by Tuesday. Then if I'm lucky, a loss by Thursday or Friday, then we're back to the weekend.
  • THIN: I think it is a personal preference. I like the rice, my son likes the almond. Both are good. I think Talitha uses the rice. Try them both and see which one you like. I don't eat cereal for breakfast, because of the milk, and then the five rules of mastering leptin include "Eat a high protein breakfast" -this is to help set the pace for the liver for the day- so I try to keep to that and eat protein instead of starch. It does keep me from feeling hungry until lunch.
  • Happy Friday Ladies!

I am wired up today and rearing to go. I think it was the nice weather we had yesterday. After dinner I wanted to take a walk and I had to go to the tanning bed. So I walked to the tanning bed and back. About 1 mile. Then I hit the for 1 mile. I was pleased with myself. This morning DH had to be a work at 5:00 and He wouldn't get lunch so I got up at 4;15 and fixed him breakfast so I stayed up and got ready and hit the gym for an hour of cardio. So Monet I have met your challenge of 1500 colories burned this week. So far I have 1734 in cardio alone. I can't measure my calories burned by wt training. I hope to get a walk in Sat & Sun since it is supposed to be in the 70's here. I can't wait.

We have a company dinner to attend tomorrow night. It will be challenging. There will be coctails, horsdovoures (sp) then dinner. Dinner will probably be doable. I will have to be careful with the horsdvourse and drinks.

    bf: protein smooth, strawberries
lunch, tuna salad, ff mayo, ww wheat thins, orange, tomato soup
dinner: baked fish, green beans, slaw.

I'm sure I will have a glass or 2 or wine tonight too.

KayeC, hope you get a good wallpapering price and get the job done right.

tech, cute joke. I agree, Satan created HMO;s!

Talitha, congrats on meeting your goal. Enjoy your date night.

Monet, glad you finally got a good nights rest. I have had a lingering cough for 3 weeks now. I think it is allergies or this Ohio Valley yuk.

Thin, you are on the same roller coaster as I am. Lose thru the week and up on Monday again. Try journaling your food and calories for the weekend to get some idea where the problem is. Congrats on your loss.

    Have a great weekend everyone
  • Just a quick fly by...Me, Derek and Junior went to the boat launch today...about 3 1/2 miles away!! Junior was so cute...he was so excited because I took off his leash and let him run wild in and out of the water. He was having a blast. And it was a great stress reliever for Derek, as well...

Okay...Derek is taking us to Canton for lunch (he's working...)...but I'm topping off with a strawberry/peach smoothie first...

    TTFN!!
  • Good Morning ladies,

Not much to report this am. Got in my Curves for the week, was able to get in 4 circuits each day except for Monday, as dh had a dr appointment and needed a ride home after some tests, so only got in 3 on Monday. My first month will be up on the 6th. Sure hope that I can show a loss, either in inches or in weight. Being on vacation I was not able to get in as many sessions as I would have liked, but did eat right, so we will see.

My SIL and I are planning on taking my Mom out for a special dinner on the 6th also. It would have been her and my Dad's 50th wedding anniversary. I know she will have a tough time so decided to take her to Red Lobster for a treat. She doesn't even know it yet........

Well, someone is at the door. Will try to get back here later.......
  • Newbie here!!

Well, a newbie to sugarbusters. I am the MOD over at the 100 lb club and I have been @ 3FC for years. I have tried many diets in the past and for the last couple years have been either Weight Watchers or calorie counting. As you can see by my stats, I am not doing very well at either.

Being completely fed up I pulled out my food addiction books only to find what I have read before. I need to give up sugar and white flour. That sounded an awful lot like sugar-busters - so here I am!! I have been PMing Monet with questions and have been reading here too. I will buy the book this weekend to get a better scope of things. Even though I don't know that much, I started today anyway. I figure it's better to get started and refine along the way. I am ready to dump this sugar/carb fog for good!!
  • Wow, the board is sloooooow this week. where has everyone been? Where's BOB? I posted the info on estrogen like she wanted; I wonder if she saw it.

Not much happening here. Weather is nice, high 70's low 80's. Been eating OK. Today I had a scrambled egg and egg white for breakfast, along with a bowl of Shredded wheat n' bran, strawberries and sk. milk.
Lunch was a bowl of lentil soup, 1/2 pita bread and 1/4 cup homemade hummus and a protein strawberry "shake." Dinner will probably be either shrimp or lamb, along with some potato, cottage cheese and vegetable.
Walked this morning and will get in a weight lifting workout this afternoon.
    Other than that, nothing happening.

Colleen, I hope your mom has a wonderful time with y'all.
  • The weather is gorgeous...I wish I felt just a bit better, so I could go walk. I went to Costco and that about wiped me out. I can't believe I spent as much as I did...and the cart was not even full. Bummer.

I can't wait until we can open the pool! Just a few more weeks! The dogwoods are blooming and once they drop their petals, we open the pool. I suppose I ought to get out and prune the roses. I really don't feel like it, but it needs to be done. I am at least a week or two late!

SANDI: ! Jump right in. This is a wonderful group and very helpful and supportive. We are glad you are joining us! This plan DOES work, and well, especially for sugar and carb addiction problems!

I am going to go try and do something productive!
  • Welcome, Sandi. Well, you may be on to something! SB is definitely an effective and healthy way to lose the weight. The problem many of us have is to not stay faithful to this WOE. We make those excuses that your sig mentions. We have that cake or ice cream or candy or french fries or whatever, and we stay just a little bit addicted and never achieve what we really want. However, when you really give up the white stuff and eat meals that are not too large, stopping when satisfied, it is an effective way to get down to where you want to be. I also notice that when I stay really faithful that I don't get the afternoon "munchies" that just add those extra calories that I don't need.

Talking about eating what one doesn't need, last Friday, a week ago today, we went to a big party that a well-known suing lawyer here threw for 10,000 of his closest friends. It was held at the fairgrounds, and I do believe that there probably were 10000 people there. They had a stage erected with a country band playing. Some big name country singer was slated to come out about 8 p.m. Also fireworks were on the agenda for the evening, but we did not stay long enough for any of that. They had Sabrett hot-dog stands all over the place, and large tents with all the booze you could want. There probably were 10 bartenders in each tent, and there were 5 of those tents. Then there was a huge tent with long long tables with chairs on each side. They served BBQ pork or chicken, cole slaw, potato salad, white rolls, and cookies. A real SB meal if I ever saw one!!! It was a disaster for me, but I got back on the wagon after a day and a half later. See what "cheating" will do for you!!!

Well, we are having lamb chops tonight as I found some good ones at the grocers. I am marinating them in dijon mustard, rosemary, soy sauce, garlic and olive oil. They will be good.
  • EVENING EVERY BUDDY!!

OH...MY...GAWD!!! WHAT A WEEK!!! I'll be so dang glad when all these people go home!! It's not bad enough that all the WINTER PEOPLE are still here, but tonight, the SARASOTA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL begins and for the next 10 days and nights, we will be invaded with EVEN MORE PEOPLE!!! And...where is the majority of the festival held???? YES....right down where the building where I work is located! SANDI....WELCOME!!! You'll like our program. There is so much you can have and you won't have to count calories (although some of us do) but if you're anything like me, portion control will be critical!

    COLLEEN...Have fun with your Mom!!

MONET...Glad you got some rest. I slept well, but woke up with my back hurting. Now, tonight is Friday and if this Friday is no different, I won't sleep tonight. I can't explain why, but it seems to happen every Friday night!
