:carrot: I went out and walked with Sean, Craig and Buddy! and posted it on the exercise board! Please don't have a heart attack! I made it the whole way with out back pain or taking major breaks to catch my breath. I was amazed, it felt so good! I was teling Craig after dinner that we have gone the last two Sundays and I wanted to add in a day this week, maybe Wednesday. "Let's go" he said,:running: so we went! Rachel is at dance tonight for 3.5 hours, so she got her exercise in too!
|
Yeah it is Monday! I'm happy because I'm off all this week.
Forgot to weigh this am. I am wondering if this is a Freudian slip :o We had Swiss steak, brown rice, salad for dinner. Don't have to many plans for this week but the kids are off tomorrow because of standardized testing at their high school. Only the grade that is being tested is allowed at the school. I am shopping online for lamps as I haven't found any locally that I like. Have a good evening. KayeC |
Dinner went well tonight. Erik and I rolled the dough and formed the pasties. Ruth cleaned up after us, so it went well. There was plenty of food and a bunch of the pasties were left. I brought them home, and served them to the family here. They ate them all! Not even one stinking one left for my lunch! :(
I am dog tired, so I am going to climb in the bed. I have tons to do tomorrow for a meeting here. The house is such a mess! And to think I just had it all cleaned up a few days ago! Sweet dreams all! |
Well, I got a really good night's sleep last night. Derek's in VT, so I put the kids to bed at 9ish and, instead of coming downstairs and bathing in the glory of having the remote to myself, I decided to go right to bed with some tea and a new book I'm reading. Of course, I was unconsious by 10 and slept all night like a log.
This morning I'm on my third cuppa coffee and just finished a three-egg and cheese omlette and I'm having an apple with it. I'm so low on produce. I went to the store around the corner and they're selling asparagus with the tops cut off again because they'd gone bad...at full price! So, it'll be a struggle to keep up on my fruits/veggies until payday on Thursday. For lunch I'll have a strawberry smoothie (frozen strawberries). Another thing I found at the above store was...what is the bigger of the two? A quart or a pint? You know...they sell the square boxes of berries and then the rectangle box that is bigger. Anyhow...it was the rectangle box of fresh berries...for $5.99!! What the heck!! I wouldn't spend that much on berries if they came with Fabio to feed them to me chocolate covered. Well...now that I think about it...THAT might be worth it :s: ... I'm going to thaw out some chicken for dinner and have it with salad. I've been drinking iced tea like it's going out of STYLE!! I know, I could just make a pot of tea and pour it over ice...but this contraption is so handy...it. It makes the tea in the bin above and out it comes, piping hot, over the ice in the pitcher below. It's really cool! You know, it doesn't take much for me to get excited. Okay...gotta run. Talk to you guys later on!! Kris |
Good Morning Ladies.
Fortunatley DD went ot work today. She was still feeling poorly and was up all night sick at her stomach. I think it will do her good to go to work and get her mind off her teeth. We went to the gym last night. 45 cardio and 30 minutes of weights. Luckily I had some spaghetti sauce frozen so we had that for dinner with a small salad. Tonight is pot pie. Trying to find soft things DD can eat. Have an appt with thepodiatrist today. I don't think I'll ever get my feet straightened out. One is starting to swell again. I guess it is the RA. :( Talitha, where in the Bahamas are you going? we are trying to decide on a place. Chosing between Cancun, Jamaica, Punta Cana. Never thought about the Bahamas. You should try to get a dispensation for jury duty, being pregnant and 2 kids. Country, Glad your FIL is improving. Sending prayers your way. That's one way to get some different veggies in your diet. Alisha, Welcome. You have already gotten your question answered so I will just welcome you to our group. Ask away. Thin, the more you walk, the easier and further you can go. Keep up the good work. KayeC, enjoy your week off. Tech, I love iced tea also. We used to have one of those machines at work. They are pretty great. Enjoy. Ment, hope you got some rest. It seems when I plan to take something leftover for lunch, my DH either eats it or says he will come home for lunch and eat it. Bummer. Got to run. Be back later. |
Hi everybuddy,
I submit a new recipe today for your eating pleasure: SB pizza--totally legal and calories adjustable depending on what your toppings are. 1 8" whole wheat wrap--Those very thin round things they make wrap sandwiches out of tomato/pizza sauce of your choice (I used homemade spaghetti sauce) veggies of your choice ( I used small fresh tomatoes sliced and then cut into pieces and thin onion slices sautéed, but you can add green or red bell pepper, mushrooms, etc.) Any meat of your choice, or leave plain for vegetarian ( I used some pepperoni) Italian blend grated cheese found in the dairy aisle Heat oven to 500°. Lay the wrap flat on a baking sheet. Top thinly with tomato sauce and veggies. Top with some cheese. Add meat if desired. Bake for about 5 minutes in a hot oven. The crust will get crunchy and the toppings will get hot and melty. This is really good! Especially if you like thin crust pizza. Have to go to the orthodontist today and have to leave now. Will catch you later. |
Guess who slept in? :) Actually, I got up early, but just could not stay awake, so I crawled back into the bed. Ah! It felt divine! It is all chilly and sunny...just the crisp spring day with blue skies that I love. I am even enjoying the cooler temps.
I ought to get out and prune my roses, but today's agenda has the need to develop lesson plans for my classes today and tomorrow. We are doing art work that is then turned into magnets or other stuff, and sold to the parents as a fund raiser. The head of school has told me all profits will go to the art department, so of course I want a real good response! Breakfast this morning was 3 eggs, 1 piece of ww toast, and orange juice. I will be back later! |
I haven't been around much lately. I've been feeling poorly and I'm afraid I'm coming down with one of those stomach bugs.
I've been doing okay on the eating thing, but have not been 100% legal. It's not hurt my losing yet, but I know if I don't nip it in the bud I'll gain back the few pounds that I lost. My husband is impressed that even if I'm not 100% legal I'm at least making better food choices and eating less than I used to. No personal replies right now...my stomach is hurting real bad right now so I'm going to have to dart. |
Thanks
Thank EVERYONE so much for the warm welcomes!! I really am looking foward to posting with you all. I think i will go to the library and see if they have the book thanks for the suggestion. And thank you thank you for the tips Techwife!! That really helps. So i have another question......I am sorry in advance....does WW bread not have sugar in it?? And why is it ok to eat fruit isnt' that high in sugars? I know its natural sugars..but still....i also read somewhere that you should eat your fruit, or drink your fruit juice atleast 30-1 hour before you eat your meals?? Is this true?? And also how much can one expect to loose doing SB? How much has everyone here lost?? I am wanting to loose atleast 20 pounds by June do you think its possible if i do strict SB and Excercise?? Thanks so much for everything~~
Alisha |
Alisha: I don't think your goal of 20# by June is unreasonable at all...especially if you're jsut getting started. How much you lose heavily depends on how well you stick to plan and how much exercise you do. Some have lost over a hundred and some, like me, have lost 25 or so.
As far as sugar...natural sugars are a-ok. Even lactose. I was buying either cottage cheese or plain unsweetened yogurt and the sugar was like 19 grams! I checked the ingredients and there wasn't a thing that would be sugar except lactose. I asked our experts here and sure enough...it's just lactose, so that's fine. When you look at Whole Wheat bread, you have to skip the label at first and go straight to the ingredients. The first ingredient should be a Whole Wheat flour such as cracked, rye, stone ground and just plain whole wheat...BUT, it cannot say enriched. The next ingredient...or a few in...sometimes is a hidden sugar cleverly renamed High Fructose Corn Syrup. Corn itself is not legal on SB...but less fructose or most anything called a syrup. This alone can kill a brand of bread for you. IF you see honey or some other form of sugar listed, but it's further down the list, then check the label to see what the sugar content is. My rule of thumb would be it should have, like, 2 or less grams of sugar per serving. But I'd also just steer clear of any sugar in breads. What your basic agenda is on Sugar BUsters is to control your insulin levels from spiking up. So, you want to avoid foods that do this...such as the 'whites', corn, pineapple, beets, ripe bananas (you can have a banana as long as some green remains on the skin), watermelon. Dehydrated fruits are also a no-no as the process of dehydrating them sort of carmelizes them and the insulin producing properties go up...so no banana chips! Just in case you were thinking about them. ;) This also includes raisins. The book has a list of great power foods that you should heavily consider a few of per day like the leafy greens and broccoli and sweet potatoes (or yams). Power foods isn't the word they use, but you'll know what I mean when you get the book. As in Atikins or South Beach, I recommend you read the book totally so you get a real basic understanding of why Sugar Busters works and why it's the BEST, in my opinion. Now, if I can jsut stay away from my son's goldfish, I'll be fine!! A lot of people, when I tell them of this diet, say, "Oh, so it's low-carb..." Well, it is, sort of. Where the marriage of the two come into play for me is that mostly all low-carb food is naturally going to be low in sugar. So, in a bind, I grab some South Beach prepackaged food and know that it's probably going to be good on our plan. Or the Atkins bars work for a quick snack if I see one in the check out. But be forewarned. Look for sugar alcohols. They tend to be slightly combustible...:o if you get my drift...(gassy) At the end of the day, it seems like a lot of rules, but really it's a simple plan to stick to. You'll spend a lot of money on produce but, heck, that's jsut good for you anyway! You'll also spend a lot of time reading labels until you get used to what has the ingredients that are legal, then you'll be able to breeze through the aisles and grab the good stuff. Keep the questions coming!! That's what we're here for!! |
Thank you so much Tech!! Your advice is awesome!!
Your such a big help!! Alisha |
Welcome, Alishia, to the board. I would think that 20# is very do-able if you stick to the plan and exercise.
I had my WW wrap pizza for lunch today. Ohhhhh, to die for! My carpet cleaning man was here cleaning up after the wedding and even he remarked about how good it smelled. I have had these braces on my teeth for 2 months now and I was really having problems with my lips getting all torn up by the brackets. They make the brackets differently now: they are glued to the front of the teeth and stick out about 1/16th inch. The top and bottom of the part that sticks out is quite sharp, like little teeth, and my lower lip hit just about where the sharp part is. So I was having to use a ton of wax every day just to keep that part covered up. So, this morning the dentist put two rubberbands on each bracket to give some "padding" to them, so my lips would no longer get cut. I think the person that invented these is a masochist! I also bought some ambesol and am using it on my lips. 18 months of these braces sounds like a long time now! :( Our trip to Kew West was so much fun. We stayed in a hotel right on the Gulf of Mexico, and we had rooms next to each other facing the water. We had little balconies that we could go out on to see the lovely view. We did the Conch Train tour, of course, and took a sunset cruise one evening. The boat was a big wooden sail boat, with 5 big sails. They served us wine, beer, water or sodas, and also conch chowder for a snack. The sunset was perfect, and we got lots of nice pictures. We ate out at 3 wonderful restaurants-all specializing in seafood, and I had lobster 2 nights. I was not SB perfect, and indulged in margaritas each night. After all, I was in Margaritaville!!! We walked about 2 miles down to the special beach where there was an art/sculpture exhibit, and we had fun looking at the different types of scultptures. My BIL can't do as much as he used to, and so we made sure that we took a good long time to rest each afternoon. It is a little sad to see how much that cancer affected him, but we are still so happy that he did as well as he did considering how rare a form of cancer he had. We have booked a hiking trip this summer, so I guess I should start getting more serious about walking/hiking. We will be "heli/hiking" in the Canadian Rockies where they helicopter us up to the ridge or peak, and then the guide takes us on a hike above the tree line, where we can already see the good views. We have just gotten some good hiking boots (mine are on order) so may be walking in the neighborhood in those now to make sure they are well broken in. We will spend the week before the heli-hiking in Banff, Lake Louise, and also in Calgary for 1 1/2 day at the Calgary Stampede, a big rodeo there. I spent the better part of Saturday and Sunday on the web researching hotels and inns and booking our final choices. I'm already looking forward to it. Now that all our kids are out of the nest, it is so much easier to travel. As I mentioned earlier, we are leaving early Thursday morning for a weekend in Cincinnati at a folk arts and crafts show. We love folk art, so we are really looking forward to this. We are driving up there, probably going north of Atlanta on Thursday, and then into Cincinnati on Friday. The show starts Friday night, so we want to be there for that, and will go back Saturday to follow up at booths we didn't get to see well on Friday. Then we will meander back home, getting back Monday night. Maybe we will go to Helen, or to the new aquarium in Atl. Monet, is there anything else we should not miss in north Ga? Well, I'm rambling, I know. I owe a letter to my French friends, and it is always hard to write a good letter in French, so have been putting it off. Guess I'd better get started. Will talk later. |
Just checking in before I go home. Guess we will go to the gym. The dr gave me some silicone pads to wear under the ball of my foot. Something I think we should have tried months ago. We will see how this works.
Gator, those pizzas sound good. I have been using the wraps to make lime tortilla chips. I'll have to post the recipe. Your trip sounds so relaxing. I love travelling, just don't have enough money to do it all the time. It was probably a man who developed the braces. You will only be about 90 minutes from me when you get to Cincy. Monet, hope you make lots of money for your art class. Nicolee, sorry your tummy is upset. Glad to see you are making healthy choices and your DH has noticed. Feel better soon. Tech, Great advice. Mommy, Tech gave you great advise. I had lost 105 lbs. Gained 30 back during chemo. Taking it off again. Your goal is very reasonable, if, you stay strict and don't cheat. That is so important. Once you do, you just yo-yo back and forth on the same pounds. Fruit only is eaten 1/2 hour befor meals if you have a problem with digestion. I eat my fruit at lunch right after my meal. No problem. Also you can use it for a snack. You are looking for added sugars. 3 grams per item is the rule in the book. I recommend 2 starchy carbs (rice, bread, cereal, sweet potatoes) a day. Good luck. Got to run. Have a great evening. |
