CHALLENGES! CHALLENGES! CHALLENGES! Its a brand new year, and we can use the brand new beginning to start fresh. Think about what you did well last year, and what you did not do well with. Keep that in mind.
1. Make a plan. How much do you want to lose? How long will it take you to safely lose it? Be realistic, and give yourself plenty of time. A goal of about 2 pounds a week is good, but slower is fine too. Put up your monthly goal someplace where you will see it, and be reminded of it. This is the year you are going to do it! You WILL reach your goals this year.
2. Identify ways you can be encouraged and supported by the folks here. Post at least two things that will help you that we can do.
3. Start today. Commit to taking care of yourself. This includes at least three days of exercise a week, just because it is good for your heart AND your metabolism. Drink your water, because it is good for you. Eat right, because you are worth it!
I've got a full day of FOOTBALL BOWL GAMES and can't figure out how to watch them all...all I want to watch are on at the same time!!!
Went to the PAIN CENTER for my 3 month appointment and my Doc put me on the new RESTLESS LEG med REQUIP..I was taking SENIMET which is a Parkinson's drug. The disease runs on my Fathers side of the family and I have a concern that should I contract the disease, how would I know if I'm already taking the drug for it. Yes, in later stages, I would definately know because of the shaking, but the early stages, I wouldn't. I start the new drug tonight. I'll let y'all know. He upped my dosage of SOMA because of
terrible muscle spasms of late. I don't have to take all that is prescribed for the day, just if I need them. AND YES...I WAS WEIGHED...let's hear it for 280lbs!!! I'm just depressed over that...BUT, my MEDICAL DOC is starting me on a NEW WAY OF EATING (not really new...SB is what I'll follow) but I will be going to his office once a month to be weighed in front of him (which I need..structure!!) 1800 calories per day is what he wants me to eat. I'll be reporting in when I go, but may no weigh on a weekly basis...WE'LL SEE!! I'm not back to my all time high of 292lbs but this is bad enough!
I'm off for now. I've got some things to do before the games start. I better hurry...GATORS GAME is at 11 a.m.!!!
Good morning and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! I am so excited abotu this year. THe last month has been such a wirlwind of family and food. I' did pretty well.
I like the challenges, Monet!!!
1. I can't make a goal to lose, obviously, but I can make a goal not to gain too much. THat's not that hard really, I gained 14 and 16 lbs with my others. I was sick the whole time and haven't been with this little guy I think that may change the way I gain. So I'm going to make sure I stay below 25lbs. I am going to eat fruit instead of the sweets that I'm craving. I just made myselg pass up some chocolate for an orange. The orange was delish!!!!
2. Hmmm.. support. I think this board is so supportive as it is!!! The only thing that might help is an email when I disappear for awhile?
3. You'll LOVE this one. I signed the kids up for swim classes this morning. M & W for Selah, T & TH for Jake. BOth of them are right before my water Aerobics, so I will have no excuse for missing. This is only for the next 4 weeks, but should get me back in the habit. We'll see if we have the $ to continue the classes next month.
Either way, I'll be at the Y 4 days a week this month for sure. I NEVER miss something if I paid for it!!
So, on another note, My FIL is here. HE and DH are reinforcing the roof and insulating the house, FINALLY!!!!! I am so excited!!!
WE are starting the plans to make the pantry in the kitchen. I've never had a pantry. It'll be sooo nice.
We had the BIG birthday party yesterday. For TRavis Selah AND Jacob. IT was crazy. We had at least 45 peope here, but people came by at different times. It was great.
I start my second Trimester today. I cna't believe I am 1/3 of the way there!!
ANyway, Trav has now pulled everything down form the attic and put it in the kids room. What a mess!! I thinkI'll spend the rest of the way re orranizing it and getting rid of junk. It'll be 3 or 4 days till he's ready to put it back up there. Then we are getting bunkbeds for the kids next week and trading bedrooms with them!!! Craziness, I tell you....
Just a fly by. I have been the family barrista today, making shot after shot of espresso. Tomorrow, everyone goes back to work, and seriously, I can't wait! I am bouncing off the walls from the caffeine right now...
I took a few pictures of my latest knitting project and will post one when I get it downloaded from the camera to the 'puter. Its next on my list of things to do.
I need to respond to the challenges. I want to think about it some though!
Oh, and this morning, I was not a good little sugarbuster. I ate three regular biscuits with sausage. I WILL be back on track for lunch.....
The pictures did not turn out very good, but here is one that shows the color. I loved the yarn...very soft and pretty. The shawl is a triangle, which you really can't see in the picture. Its already wrapped, but I may try for another shot when she opens it.
Good afternoon sugar buddies.. I've taken it easy this morning. I still have that awful cough and don't feel well. I'm not eating much but nothing sounds good. I weighed this morning and am at a horrible 204 lbs. I've got a long ways to go and hope I do well. Its sure slow today. Guess I need to go find something for a late lunch. By till later....
Well, it is a new year and a new start for many of us. I don't have any weight to lose, but this is my year for toning up as much as possible. If I am going to start training other people toward the end of the year, I have to be in my best shape. I also have my twenty year reunion in June and my DH's 25-yr. reunion in June as well.
I got to the gym this morning, and will try for three days a week. Four would be great, but three is my goal. I got a great workout in. I wasn't sure how I'd do after my episode at United Blood Svcs on Saturday, but I worked out and felt good. I just ordered some Otomix shoes off their website. I got some Avias, but am not crazy about the way they feel. I try to replace my shoes once a year, but really should shoot for at least every 4-6 mos. I don't do too much walking/running, just 30 minutes on the treadmill when I workout. So far, my best fitting shoe is the Ryka, but I haven't been able to find them anywhere lately.
I ordered some new bare minerals off QVC; I got the summer bisque and the tinted bare minerals; I can't wait to try them when they come in.
My girls are so cute. Britt mentioned to Lane that she only had two days off before she went back to school; Lane started crying and saying that she was going to miss Britt, and then Britt started crying and saying she was going to miss Lane. They were crying for awhile last night before bed. It was cute and sweet. You'd think they'd be ready to get rid of eachother for a bit.
Toni: I sure hope you get to feeling better; not a fun way to start off the new year, eh?
Monet: I love the shawl color; it is very pretty. It looks so soft. I think the best thing that everyone can do here is check in and be accountable. It helps to read about everyone else's triumphs and failures. We're all human, and it's gread to read about what everyone else is going through at any given time.
Talitha: Welcome to trimester 2; I hope you continue to feel well with this little one. Did you say you are going to find out the gender of the baby, or wait? It sounds like you have your work cut out for you. Don't overdo it.
BOB: I hope you are enjoying your bowl games. The big Fiesta Bowl (held here) is on in a few more minutes. My DH was disappointed with the first bowl game of the day; his Iowa team got beat pretty good, I guess. I sure hope you get some relief soon. I also hope the monthly weigh-ins and accountability will help you reach your weight goal.
Well, I'm ready for a new year and the new challenges. I made a new ticker for my new mini goal and used hearts to remind myself to love me and take care of myself! I get plenty of support from this board and seeing that I'm not the only one "out there" who is struggling. I am going to start getting out and walking or riding my bike (yes I have one in the garage, I'm just lazy!) at least twice a week to start. I will try for three times, but with dance, band and basketball games I figure a goal of twice is better than what I've been doing which is nothing but sitting on my fat butt!
The kids and I went out and did some shopping today before we head back to school tomorrow, OOOHHHH BOOOOO!! Then came home and I got chili started for dinner tonight. I will eat a reasonable bowl of it witha huge glass of water and maybe some fruit for dessert. we'll see ya soon!
Tom just left and I am subbing for the PE teacher who has strep throat! Then I have my own class this afternoon. I am drinking my first cup of espresso now and will more than likely need a second cup before I leave! My body got SO used to sleeping in.
I finished the hat I was making yesterday. Its too loose, but a start. Now I can say I know how to do hats...just not very well!
I hope everyone has a wonderful day! 'See' you all this afternoon!
so i spent the weekend at the gym.... way too much if you ask me, but every day there was some reason i had to go. i got training on the fitlynxx machines on sunday, and had to give blood on monday. but i got some cardio in every day, so i guess i should be happy.
I gave blood, and felt so woozy, couldnt have the traditional after blood-letting cookie, lol. i ended up drinking almost a half a gallon of apple juice when i got home. it was no sugar added, but still. any suggestions about a substitution for that for next time?
I'm finally back and so glad to be back here. I missed you girls. We finally got my DD moved i her new house. We have been there all day every day since Dec 10th. I'm exhausted. Spent 12 hours cleaning my house yesterday after they got al their stuff out. Still need to start my Spring cleaning, but it will have to wait a week or so. I need some rest.
Of course eating has been horrible with being at her house and no food so it was fast food here and there. I tried to take stuff in the crock pot, but it was still late eating, etc.
I'm glad to be back on track. I'm journaling and counting calories. My clothes are skin tight and I'm miserable. I haven't been to the gym since Dec 8th. We start back tonight and hope to be there 3-4 times this week.
My back and feet are killing me. I finally had to get 2 shots in my feet, they were so swollen and I could hardly walk. But I hadn't set down for 2 weeks so that's what I get.
Bob, glad to see you are going to the Doc monthly, that will help.
Monet, liked the challenges. Will respond later.
Nat, glad to see you on here.
Toni, hope you are feeling better soon. No way to start the new year
Thin.
Welcome to all our newbies. I'm sure there are many that I have missed.
Got to make some sense of this desk. I'll be back later for more replies.
You WILL reach your goals this year.
my goal is to lose 30 lbs by april first. we will see how that goes, and set a new goal when i get to april 1.
2. Identify ways you can be encouraged and supported by the folks here. Post at least two things that will help you that we can do.
thing 1: email buddies that i can send notes to you, i find that its not the "failures" that i need to vent nearly as much as i need support for the little "sucesses". it would be nice to be able to have a couple of people to share these things with.
thing 2: (feels like Dr. Seuss, doesnt it?) secrets, secrets, secrets, those of you who have been doing this longer than me, please share your knowledge with me, it keeps me motivated!
3. Start today. Commit to taking care of yourself. This includes at least three days of exercise a week, just because it is good for your heart AND your metabolism. Drink your water, because it is good for you. Eat right, because you are worth it!
Committed to at least 3 days in the gym (1 for yoga), and i really want to be a jogger, so i will work toward that goal. how much water?
Happy New Year everyone!!! We got back from Savannah yesterday afternoon, and we had a great time for the three day new year's vacation with our friends in that lovely town. We ate at some good restaurants, but now is the time for me to get serious again. There are no more cakes, cookies, etc. around here, and no reason to eat them, either!!!
Thanks for the challenges, Monet. My plan: just like Solly's--journal and watch my calories while I follow the SB woe. If I don't journal I tend to overdo on the portions and if I journal I tend to stay in control a lot more. I also will be journaling my exercise.
I want to start my walking again today. I haven't walked for a month with the bad cold I had. I still have a slight cough and a "rattle" sometimes in my chest when I breathe. I called the doc again this morning and he said to keep taking the cough syrup for another week and that should take care of the "rattle." The cough syrup tends to make me sleepy, though, and that is not so great. I just want to get totally better. I can't remember when I have been so sick for so long. A month out of my life!!!! Yikes!
2. The board can help me by its encouragement and keeping me accountable.
3. I plan on getting back to my goal of 10000 steps per day and at least 2 miles of walking in the mornings. I will probably be aiming for about 1200 Kcals per day. With that I will be able to lose about 1 pound a week. If I keep to my plan, this time next year I will be at goal. This is the year!!!
BOB--Did you watch the whole Outback bowl game? We were in the car and the reception was terrible on the radio. Plus, when you can't see what is happening it is hard to know much more than the score. Did the Gators play OFF the ball in the second half? Their defense sounded great the first half, but Iowa was able to move down the field so quickly the second half, especially the 4th quarter that we thought that the Gators were going to the "Prevent-Victory" defense. We watched part of the UGA game and the Dawgs were stinking up the place the first half. They did not look like they came to play. Glad to see that the score evened up by the end of the game. And congratulations to LSU for pounding scUM. Now it is time for roundball season. Solly, what's going on with the Cats?
It was raining this morning when I got up, so no walking. It has cleared up now and looks beautiful, temps in the high 70's. I have to leave now to go work out with my trainer, but will walk later.
There is a great article in the USA Today about weight loss and lifestyle. I will try to post it later. Or you can go to the USAtoday.com website and click on Print Edition and then the Life section. It takes up about 3 pages in that section. Talk to y'all later.
I am checking in to be accountable!! I wighed 122#'s this morning, so I gained a few pounds over the holidays, but nothing I can't take off with some serious workouts and eating healthy. I just ate an egg and slice of spelt toast with smart balance, fruit preserves and cinnamon - yummy!
We will be leaving here in a little while. I am taking the girls to Red Robin for lunch; they have some free kid's meal coupons to use, but they expire on 1/6/06, so we better go today since Britt goes back to school tomorrow.
Before I forget....I went to Whole Foods the other day and found some Cream of Buckwheat, which I got for Britt, and she likes it; it is actually pretty tasty. I always assumed Buckwheat had wheat in it, but it is not a grain at all, but in the rhubarb family. What a nice treat for her every once in awhile.
A few motivational/"Don't Sweat the Small Stuff" tips:
Have a love affair with life! All it takes is the commitment to reflect upon the miracle of life itself and to remember, each day, how lucky we are to be alive.
We're here for a moment in time - and then we're gone. Why waste one second on self-pity, frustration, irritation, and all the rest?
Also, before I forget....has anyone heard from Teensy; I thought she was back to posting more regularly? Also, where's Fruit? I hope to see more of Melf & Sef here as well. I'm sure I forgot some of the "old-timers," but hope everyone checks in for the new year.
Thin: Good Reminder to love yourself; that's the most important thing. I have my kids say this every night before they go to sleep...."it's great to be alive, I love myself and I love my life." I bought a new day-by-day calendar that is called, "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff." I'll be posting some of those on Motivational Tuesdays.
Monet: Have a great day at school (work). It is going to be so difficult to jump back into the fast-paced day to day stuff tomorrow.
Jailene: I think when you give blood, your body needs that hydration and sugar. I don't think it will hurt every once in awhile when you give blood. I would just alternate between water and juice. At least you made it to the juice....I passed out before I could get there . Good job getting to the gym!! 30#'s by April 1st is a very optimistic goal; please don't be too disappointed if you dont' make it. You may want to try to breaking it down into smaller goals. I started this woe in March a few years ago, and it took me over 7 months to lose 30#'s. AND, I was very strict at that time. I didn't "cheat" for the first 4-5 months, and then after that, if I splurged, it was very little. My biggest "secret" is to make sure you eat enough. Make sure you are eating the right foods, and getting enough protein. Skipping meals and eating too little will just cause you to stall. AND, workout, workout, workout; you want to start working those muslces now.
Gator: Welcome home!!! It sounds like you had a wonderful time. Are you feeling better?
