Hello Everyone: I am starting the Board for the new week in Debbie's absence. Her "mother board" has problems, and she is unable to get onto the computer. She is back from her vacation, but is home sick with a cold bug she caught in Las Vegas. She sends everyone her "Hellos"....

Happy Motivational Monday: Here are a few words to share of Motivational Quotes:

It is not an act of intellect which makes people change themselves for the better but an act of the will. For intelligence without courage is as static as courage without intelligence is rash. It is intelligence with courage the results in the necessary act of the will we need in order to bring aboutconstructive change in ourselves."
Sidney J. Harris

Changing our diet is something we choose to do, not something we are forced to do. Instead of dreading it, try saying, ''Here's another thing I get to do to help myself. Great!''
Author: Greg Anderson

Few things are impossible to diligence and skill. Great works are performed not by strength, but perseverance.

Dream lofty dreams, and as you dream, so shall you become. Your vision is the promise of what you shall one day be; your ideal is the prophecy of what you shall at last unveil.

Thumbs up Challenges For The Week!

Good Morning, SugarBusters! Its a new week, and a new chance to make some progress! Forget all your old failures, and start fresh if you have to, but just DO IT!

Here is a challenge for the week:

Stay totally OP for the week. Take it one day at a time. If you have to eat larger portions of legal food, ok, but just don't cave and eat stuff that is not legal.

Get your water in. About 1/2 oz for each pound you weigh is good.

Exercise 3 times during the week.

Last but not least, post your menus and exercise daily.

You can do it! Let's make this the best week ever!

HiedieHo Everyone!

HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SUMMER!!! It statrts out here H H H!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PANCHO: 60 years! A real milestone. Things do change when the kids move out or you lose your spouse. It's like a rebellion against doing everything you've HAD to do all those years. I remember my DD was irritated with me when I changed some kitchen supplies after DH died. I just didn't use certain things anymore. She came home, went to reach for something and it wasn't there. She informed me it was AlWAYS there. I just said always isn't forever. Besides it was my kitchen.

MONET: OP for a week?!? You are one tough cookies!!! A legal one of course!

Have to get ready, today is nursing home group.

May good things happen

Good morning everyone!

Thanks for your prayers & well wishes. Had my endoscopic sinus surgery Friday afternoon. I was very relieved that it was NOT as bad as anticipated. I had quiet a bit of bleeding for a couple of days, but has deminished today as they said it would. Saturday I could actually breath even with all the bleeding, until it started clotting off, then I could not breathe through my nose at all, so was having a hard time eating since I was breathing through my mouth & couldn't seem to do both at the same time. LOL But I have not taken a pain pill since Sat. night, praise the Lord!

No packing or stints were necessary. I'm still on bed/recliner rest, cannot blow my nose for a week & no staining for a week. I see him again Thursday for a debridement in the office. Until then, I'm just laying low, but keeping my head up! LOL

Scale is definitely going down. Just 2 more pre-vacation lbs to go. Can't do anything straineous yet, so no walking, exercise, etc., so I cannot take part in much of the challenge this week. That's ok, I'll continue to do what I can, including cutting back on portions.

Have a great day everyone!

Good Monday Morning:

We are going to be home for the day; DH took the vehicle in for a "tune-up" and oil change before the trip. I am going to do some more packing, and plan to get my shower and do my pilates tape when Lane sleeps today.

I am then going to see Stepford Wives with a few friends, and then to Starbucks for a coffee.

I was at Wal-mart a few days ago, and bought some PowerBar Pria bars; most have 8-10g of sugar and NO sugar alcohol. They are so good; I love the chocolate mint one. The plan is to eat 1/2 at a time, but that doesn't always happen. I would rather Britt eat that instead of a candy bar too. I also found a cearal - MiniCarb Apple Cinnamon Low-Carb Granola. It wasn't cheap, and comes in an 11 oz box. BUT, they claim that a 1/2 cup serving has 25grams of fiber; that is hard to imagine, really. That is the low-end of the daily requirment in only one bowl of cereal. I just sprinkled some on top of my Cheerios this morning, and it really is tasty. Here are the ingredients: Soybeans, Almonds, Oat Fiber, Polydextrose (fiber), Soybean Oil, Cinnamon, Natural Flavors, Sucralose (Splenda). The Nutrition Facts for 1/2 cup are: Cal 285, Total Fat 15g (only 2 of which are saturated, the rest are essential fatty acids), Chol 0, Sodium 20mg, Carb 29g, Fiber 25g, Sugars 1g, Protein 8g. Sounds like a good find to me, it is really filling too. I will only use as a "sprinkle" with my other cereal, as it is pretty expensive. MiniCarb has a huge line of foods, including lots of dessert. I tried the brownies once, and they were terrible! Oh well.

I bought a small fold-up stroller for the trip (that only makes a gazillion strollers for us...jogging, large limo type, smaller but not small enough, etc...) It was only $20 at Wal-Mart, and I am trying to pack as "small" as I can to get everything in. I have to go put it together soon.

Sef: Tell Deb that we're pulling for her, and hope that she is feeling better soon, and that she is able to get that computer fixed. It seems I spend so much time returning items, especially due to defects. It is nice to have some legal treats around, as long as I stop at just one.

Monet: O.K. MOTHER DRILL SARGEANT!!! I am up to your challenges. I want to be 100% OP until we leave Friday, and I am going to try to be OP during the first leg of the trip, and as often as possible. The water is usually never a problem for me, the exercise will have to take place here at home when I can squeeze it in. I will go to the gym on Wed. a.m. though. Your dinner sounds yummy, but it is time to buckle down now, huh? Your DH would know about the fructose, if anyone would. I ordered the Whey-Low, but didn't use it in any of my baking this past weekend; it costs too darn much. The diabetic formula contains lactose and fructose, so I can't imagine it being bad for diabetics. I have tried the little packets though, and they do taste just like sugar, none of that nasty aftertaste. I would like to eventually cut out the "artificial" sweeteners, including Splenda....but will do so gradually. This would be a good replacement, since there are no "artificial" sweeteners in it.

Teensy: How long will you be gone?? Your post cracked me up, I didn't expect the last part of F_____, to be UDGE... That is definately one candy that I won't indulge in; it was always too sweet before this woe; now I am sure it would really taste too sweet. But bring on those Turtles anyday!

Tranquil: Thank you so much for starting the board again!!!!

Sef: My parents will be celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary next month. I can definately understand the need for change after the loss of a loved one.

Melf: Glad the sinus surgery is behind you, and I hope it brings the relief that your were hoping for. Congrats on the continued loss; those vacation pounds will be gone very soon, and then you can fall below that vacation weight.

I better go get that stroller put together.

Have a great day; I'll check in later.

I'm home today. Started with joint pain yesterday. Ended up calling the drr last night. She sent me a sterriod pack. Hope if helps soon. My knees feel like they are going to explode. I tried percacets but I had horrrible nightmares and a bad headache. It helped the pain, but I can't take them. Now I have thrush in my mouth. I thought this treatment was going to be so good too.

I'm off to sit in the whirrlpool and then to get my prescriptions.

Monet, great challenges. I will be OP I can't even eat.

Hope to be back all better tomorrrow.

HiedieHo Everyone!

Back from NH had a really good lively group today. It was such fun!

MARY: How great to see you able to post. Glad it was not as bad as you feared. Just follow orders!!! You're not you yet, so prayers continue!

PANCHO: Always learn so much here. Never heard of the products mentioned but will have to look for them. We don't really know all that's out there, do we?

JACKK: You poor lady! As you know, I can sympathize. You probably have to take a pill so you can take a pill. Prayers and hope you feel better soon.

TONI: Things will keep, you need a relaxing day.

Breakfast was a SlimFast lowcarb bar. 2g. Going to have some sausage in a tortilla now.

Supper, hmmmmm haven't decided.
.
May good things happen

Default Hello

Hello, I am new to this WOE, I previously came from a Low carb style dieting, no set plans, just watching carbs. This is so much easier. I have about 60 lbs to lose, and I am trying to lose them before my husband comes home. He is in Kuwait until February as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. I want to surprise him, however by what people have told me, it will be next to impossible for me to lose that weight before he gets home on this WOE, as the weight comes off a lot slower. This morning, I had a bowl of wheat puff cereal, with a tiny bit of splenda, a slice of whole wheat toast with SF jelly on it,and a glass of "low carb"milk...*because it has less sugar than regular milk*...as snacks I had a little broccoli with ranch dressing, triscuits and a peach. I have also had 2 pieces of SF chocolate and a diet coke. I've drank about 20 oz of water so far. I have been walking daily, but today I can't...I dunno, just thought I'd post and see if anyone had any ideas, or could tell me if I'm even doing this correctly.

Welcome CarolNEmily! Glad you have found us. You've picked a good WOE to change to, but I don't see that you've had any protein. We need the protein in our diet to help curb the hunger for the carbs. Have you read the book? There are allot of info on our info boards. You may want to scan those to get a better idea. You've come to a good board for support. These gaLS ARE GREAT HERE. I think you CAN loose the weight, or at least the majority of what you'dlike to loose in the time frame you mentioned. Attitude & persistence means allot, so don't be defeated before you start by thinking that you can't. Walking is great. That will help allot.

Daughter #2 and I spent the morning shopping for a day late father's day present. We got a new TV for him at Wal Mart. She set it up, but its not hooked up right and therefore not working too well. A friend of hers said he would come over and fix it for us. He puts in electrical systems, and this will be a piece of cake for him. Our old TV was like a 19", which is a riot. My monitor is a 19"! The new TV is a 27", and it looks huge! We are not big TV watchers, but Tom likes watching movies, so this will make him happy. I just hope he likes it.

I wrote those challenges, then screwed up by eating a cookie that was on the table this morning. Shame on me! I am back on the straight and narrow, and will try and not mess up again. I am trying to get my water in too.

CAROLNEMILY: Welcome to Sugarbusters! We are glad you joined us. You will find all the people here very helpful, so if you have questions, ask away! I am sure in the months before February, barring any physical problems, you will be able to drop enough weight on SB that your hubby will be very pleased when he gets home! He probably would be happy to see you if you GAINED 60 pounds after that long, but we will all help cheer you on in your quest to pull it off! Looking over your menu, I have a few comments. First, in order to lose on SB, you should try limiting your starchy carbs to 2-3 per day. So far, in what you posted, you have three. Puffed wheat is essentially legal, but there are better choices, since it is higher glycemic due to the processing. Oatmeal is good, as is shredded wheat. If you are going to have cereal for breakfast, skip the toast, but try to have something with protein in it as well. Protein slows down the absorbtion of the carbs, and therefore lowers the GI of starches. I like eating eggs for breakfast, with ww toast. Sometimes, I have Cheerios, though they are not the best choice, since their GI is kind of high. Its a good idea to skip the SF chocolates and stuff like that for a week or so, to get the taste for sweets out of your system. Its amazing how sweet stuff tastes if you go without anything sweet for a more than a week. To help you get to know us here, I will tell you a bit about me. I started on SB about three years ago, after doing Atkins/Protein Power for four years. I am a true metabolically resistant person, in addition to being hypothyroid and insulin resistant, which can be called metabolic syndrome. Losing weight is almost impossible. I have lost about 40 pounds total in the seven years I have been working at it, and I have another 70 to go. I joined Curves a few months ago, and I am trying to keep up going three times a week, and contemplating going four or five times just to get more exercise in. I lose better on SB, which I theorize is due to the thyroid needing carbs to convert T4 to T3. I read everything I can get my hands on about thyroids, and insulin, and due to my reading and research, I hate soy! (its bad for your thyroid!) Most of the rest of the people on here just let me rant about it!

MELF: I am so glad your surgery went well, and you are not feeling a lot of pain. I hope the nose clears out so you can eat ok!

JACK: I am so sorry you are not feeling better. Did your doctor give you some of the magic mouthwash that is supposed to help the thrush from chemo? It really helps. If he didn't, ask for it. The pharmacist mixes it up. They gave it to me when I had mono, and it really helped the pain. I am praying you feel better soon.

PANCHO: I am a little afraid of the Whey-Low after Kengjw posted that it raised her blood sugar levels the same as sugar, which agave did not. Since my insulin levels are still not what they should be, I think I will stick with the agave and fructose, in hopes of getting them down to a normal level. Of course, my slip ups of late are not helping! Want to drive through Atlanta on your way to vacation and stop and give me a swift kick in the booty?

SEF: You are so good to go to the NH! I know they all appreciate you and your faithfulness. Its great that you have such fun doing it too! Bless you!

TONI: Good for you passing on the potatoes! I love them, and its always hard for me to pass them up!

BOB: Don't think I can call that an official post! I will be expecting more later!

Howdy ladies (& any men who may be lurking)

I got my Pilates tape done, and my shower out of the way; I am now sitting here with a wet head. I still have to go do my make-up, but always wait until last minute to do that.

I hope I remember to watch Oprah today; it is about plastic surgery. They are going to show a woman who lost a ton of weight and has really saggy skin; I guess like none seen before! It might make me feel better about the saggy skin I have just on my tummy .

My Menu so far today:
BF: Cheerios w/ MiniCarb low carb granola, blueberries & rice milk
Snack: Cherries
Snack: Legal cookies I made (2) - Oatmeal/dried apricot
Snack: Boiled Egg
Lunch: Not sure yet
Dinner: Will be BBQ chicken breast with salad
Will have a little bit of popcorn at the movies & a SF, NF Latte afterwards

I have had about 48 oz of water so far.

Jack-K: So sorry you have having joint pain. I really hope the presc. they called in for you will help alleviate the pain.

Toni: I'll let you know tomorrow a.m. how the movie was.

Sef: I know what you mean; there is new stuff popping up daily out there.

Melf: We are going to Nashville for a few days and then on to Panama City; where my DH's parents live. All of his siblings and their families are going to meet there. The guys are going to a car race, and then we all are going to meet up at Busch Gardens for the 4th of July. It s/b a fun trip....once we get there; the car ride is going to be quite the venture.

CarolNEmily: Since you asked for it.....here goes: I disagree with anyone who tells you that you won't lose that weight in 8 mos. I think you can lose the majority of it if you really buckle down and work at it. I lost 32 #'s in less than 5 mos, but that is more than I even planned to lose. And just remember any is better than none. Even if you lose half that weight by then, it will make a dramatic difference. You do want to limit your starchy carbs in the beginning; you've already had 3 today. I tried to eat 1-2 in the beginning. Some people, including myself, have gastro problems with the sugar alcohols in SF candy, and they can also cause sugar cravings...so be careful with those. It's better to try to eliminate most all sugars (except natural sugars) in the beginning to get your body used to not having them. You may want to check out Ricki's site, if you haven't already, at www.prettyimpressivestuff.com/sugarbusters. You will learn a lot and get a lot of ideas there. With all that being said, it must be such a hard thing to have your DH gone right now. Please come here for any support you need at any time. Good luck losing the weight, you really can do it if you buckle down and commit yourself wholeheartedly. Welcome to our group; we are glad to have you!!! AND REMEMBER, no one is perfect...we all have our times!!

Well, better get going.

Take care,
Nat
