The book CAN be confusing, trust me, it's not you. It can not only be confusing, but contradictory. I'm hoping when they come out with the new SB BOOK supposedly next month it will be more precise and clear. With that, don't ever hesitate to ask questions!
Naturally occuring sugars are fine

There is no limit when it comes to natural sugars, it's the refined you have to worry about, and that should not exceed 3grams PER SERVING.
You should try to limit your starchy carbs to 2-3 a day. What's considered a serving is approx 15 grams of carbs and 80 calories. Remember too that the more fiber some, say a slice of bread, has in it, the better! Portion sizes do matter.
